二日間のみの開催でしたが沢山の方とお話することができ、有意義で楽しい時間となりました。

名古屋は昨晩より雨がしとしと降っております。夜窓を開けますと、ふとあの香りが…。いわゆる雨が降る前の独特の匂いが漂っておりました。雨自体には匂いはないので不思議なところですが、この匂いは科学的に分析され、「ペトリコール」と呼ばれているのだとか。１９６４年にオーストラリアの鉱物学者、イザベル・ジョイ・ベアとリチャード・トーマスによって作られた造語だそうで、ギリシャ語で「石」意味するペトロと「神の静脈を流れる液体」を意味するイコールが組み合わされているのだとか。

ペトリコールが生まれる過程でこの「石」が関わってくるようです。日照りが続くと、ある種の植物は自らの種子を守るために油を放出し、この油が土や岩石に染み込み蓄積されます。そこに雨粒が落ちてくると、エアゾルという空気の泡の粒子が発生し土の中に眠っていた植物の油などの成分を空気中に放出し、あの雨の匂いが拡散されるという訳です。

この植物の油は実は新芽の初期の成長や発芽を遅らせる作用があると分かっており、日照りに芽を出して枯れてしまうのを防ぐために成長を止めようとしているのだそうです。いつも思うのですが、植物って脳があるのではと思うほど賢い生き物です。

さてそういう訳で、近くで雨が降っていなくても、どこか遠くで降った雨により生まれたエアゾルが風で運ばれてきて、「もうすぐ雨が降るんじゃない？」と無意識に雨予報ができてしまうのだそうです。

一方雨が上がった後の匂いはまた少し違うようで、降った雨水が蒸発する時に土中の放線菌や青カビが作り出す物質、「ゲオスミン」の匂いが空気中に拡散されるのだとか。ゲオスミンは「大地のにおい」という意味で、かび臭さや泥臭さを感じるのが特徴だそうです。雨上がりのむせ返るような匂いを思い出しました。

最近は地面がアスファルトに覆われ、昔ほどは感じなくなっているのかもしれません。雨上がりの匂いが懐かしい感覚を呼び起こすのはそのせいでしょうか。

また他の動物に比べ人間はゲオスミンを感知する能力が高く、ほんの僅かな量でも極めて敏感に嗅ぎ分けることが出来るのだとか。その理由として挙げられるのが、水中の藍藻類などがゲオスミンの化合物をつくり水質汚染物質のひとつとされているため、安全な水を飲むことが不可欠だった人間がゲオスミンに対する嗅覚を発達させたのではということです。

ゲオスミンはワインにも含まれることがあり、一定量以上含まれる場合は廃棄されるそうです。しかし全く含まれないと香りが落ち、深みがなくなるのだとか。バランスが難しいのですね。

ソムリエがワインの味を表現する時に、「大地の香りがする」などと仰るのはそのせいなのかと勝手に納得しました。ワインは熟成が進むにつれて土に還っていくのだという方もいるそうで、それを美味しいと感じるかどうかは個人差がありそうです。

さらに不思議なことに人間はゲオスミンの味には拒否反応を起こしますが、その匂いを好む人は多いのだそうです。雨の日は気持ちが落ち着く、懐かしい思い出が蘇りストレスから解放してくれるなど雨に関わる匂いには鎮静効果があるとも言われています。

１９６０年代にインドでゲオスミンが主成分の香水が販売され、今では香水に一般的に含まれる成分となっています。「雨が降った後のコンクリートの香り」「雨の森の…」など雨に関連付けて表現している商品も多いそうです。

味は嫌いだけど匂いは好き、我々はなかなか複雑にできているようです。

Although the exhibition was held for only two days, we were able to talk with many people and had a meaningful and enjoyable time.

It has been raining in Nagoya since last night. When I opened the window at night, I suddenly smelled that aroma…. It was that special smell before it rains. The smell was coined by Australian mineralogists Isabel Joy Beare and Richard Thomas in 1964, and is said to be a combination of the Greek word “petro,” meaning “stone,” and “liquid flowing through the veins of God. It seems that this “stone” is involved in the process of petrichor’s creation. When the sun shines, certain plants release oil to protect their own seeds, and this oil seeps into the soil and rocks and accumulates. When raindrops fall on them, aerosol particles of air bubbles are generated, releasing the plant oil and other components that had been dormant in the soil into the air, diffusing the smell of rain.

This plant oil is actually known to delay the initial growth and sprouting of new shoots, trying to stop them from sprouting and dying in the sunshine. I always think that plants are such clever creatures that I wonder if they have brains.

So, even if there is no rain nearby, the aerosols created by rain that falls somewhere far away are carried by the wind, and we subconsciously forecast rainfall, saying, “It’s going to rain soon, isn’t it? They unconsciously forecast rainfall.

On the other hand, the smell after the rain is a little different. When the rainwater evaporates, the smell of geosmin, a substance produced by actinomycetes and blue mold in the soil, is diffused into the air. Geosmin means “smell of the earth,” and it is characterized by a musty, muddy odor. It reminded me of the sweltering smell after a rain.

These days the ground is covered with asphalt, and perhaps we don’t feel it as much as we used to. Perhaps that is why the smell after the rain evokes a nostalgic sensation.

Humans have a higher ability to detect geosmin than other animals, and are extremely sensitive to even the smallest amounts of it. The reason for this is that cyanobacteria in the water produce geosmin compounds, which are considered to be one of the water pollutants, and humans have developed a sense of smell for geosmin because it is essential for us to drink safe water.

Geosmin can also be found in wine, and if the amount exceeds a certain level, the wine is discarded. However, if it is not included at all, the aroma is reduced and the wine loses its depth. So it is difficult to find the right balance.

I was convinced that this is the reason why sommeliers say “it smells like the earth” when describing the taste of wine. Some people believe that wine returns to the earth as it matures, and it seems to me that whether or not people find it tasty depends on the individual.

Even more curious is the fact that humans reject the taste of geosmin, but many people prefer its smell. It is also said that rain-related smells have a calming effect, such as calming one’s mind on rainy days, bringing back fond memories, and relieving stress.

In the 1960s, a perfume with geosmin as its main ingredient was sold in India, and it is now a common ingredient in perfumes. Many products are described by associating it with rain, such as “the smell of concrete after it rains” or “a rainy forest…”.

We don’t like the taste, but we love the smell.

さて昨日山崎川を訪れましたら、見事に満開でございました。明日は天気が崩れるようですので、本日お時間のある方はぜひ足お出かけになってはいかがでしょうか。夜のライトアップも明日までとのことです。

時間：午後６時３０分から午後９時

場所：かなえ橋からかなえ小橋南側の約１２０メートルの間

毎年おいしい焼き芋屋さんの屋台も出ています。（すみません今年は確認できていませんが）

日本では春といえば、やはり桜を思い浮かべる人が多いと思いますが、世界的にはミモザ（アカシア）が春を告げる花の代表格とされています。季節３月から４月ごろで黄色いふわふわした小花が房状に集まって咲き、頭をもたげている様子をよく見かけます。シルバーがかった美しい葉が一年中楽しめる常緑樹です。

先日歩いておりますと、黄色い花が上から降ってくるように咲き圧倒されました。

ミモザは１０００種以上の「マメ科アカシア属」の植物の総称です。

「ミモザ」とはもともと「オジギソウ」の学名だそうですが、オーストラリアからヨーロッパに輸入された時にこのアカシアの葉がミモザ（オジギソウ）の葉に似ていたことから「ミモザアカシア」と呼ばれるようになったとか。

アカシアなのですが、別の植物の「ミモザ」が通称として使われるという複雑な状況になっているようです。

日本でよく見られるミモザは「ギンヨウアカシア」で街路樹や公園に植えたり、庭に植えられたりしています。銀用（ギンヨウ）の名前の由来でもあるシルバーリーフと呼ばれる葉が特徴です。シックな雰囲気が室内の装飾としても人気です。

ヨーロッパでは「フサアカシア」が主に流通しており、花は少な目ですが、長く繊細な葉が鳥の羽に例えられるほど美しく人気だそうです。

世界では各地でミモザの祭典も行われているようです。

有名なところでは、フランスの「ミモザ祭り」があります。南フランスのリコートダジュールのモンドリューラナプールでは、毎年２月に開催されます。地元のミモザで飾り付けた山車が練り歩くフラワーパレードが見どころだそうです。「マントンのレモン祭り」「ニースのカーニバル」と並ぶ「南仏三大祭り」に数えられています。

ミモザの原産国であるオーストラリアではミモザはワトルと呼ばれ、９月１日は「ワトル・デー（アカシアの日）」とされています。当日はワトルの花や枝を身に着け、春の訪れを迎えるそうです。

他には３月８日は国連が定めた「国際女性デー」と定められ、別名ミモザの日として知られています。差別のない平等な社会で女性がより輝けるよう様々な提言がなされています。

１９０４年の３月８日に起きた、女性の婦人参政権を求めて起こしたニューヨークのデモが発端だそうです。

男性が女性に日頃の感謝を込めてミモザを贈る習慣でもあり、イタリアではこの日全土がミモザの色の黄色に彩られるとか。

日本では春にミモザがそこまで主役になることはない気がいたします。やはり桜パワーが強すぎるのでしょうか。

そういえば、ミモザというお洒落なカクテルもありますね。パリの五つ星ホテル「リッツ・パリ」のバーで生まれたカクテルで、当時は「シャンパン・ロ・ランジュ（シャンパンとオレンジ）」と呼ばれていました。カクテルの黄色がミモザ色ということで「ミモザ」となり、飲みやすく女性に人気のカクテルとなっております。

レシピを見ますと、シャンパンまたはスパークリングワインと同量のオレンジジュースを加えひと混ぜするとのこと。シェーカーでシャカシャカする必要もなく、思いのほか簡単です。オレンジジュースをグレープフルーツジュースに変えれば「ホワイトミモザ」というアレンジカクテルになるようです。

シュワシュワとスッキリしたカクテルはこれからの季節にぴったりかもしれません。ただアルコール度数は低くありませんのでご注意ください。

Yesterday, I visited the Yamazaki River and found it in full bloom. The weather is expected to break tomorrow, so if you have time today, why not visit? The nighttime illumination will last until tomorrow.

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Place: Between Kanae Bridge and the south side of Kanae Kobashi (about 120 meters)

Every year, there are delicious yaki-imo (baked sweet potato) stalls. (Sorry, we haven’t been able to confirm this year’s event)

In Japan, most people think of cherry blossoms when they think of spring, but worldwide, mimosa (acacia) is considered the representative flower that heralds spring. The season is from March to April, and you can often see the yellow fluffy flowers blooming in clusters and leaning their heads back. It is an evergreen tree with beautiful silver leaves that can be enjoyed all year round.

The other day as I was walking along, I was overwhelmed by the yellow flowers that seemed to be falling from above.

Mimosa is the generic name for more than 1,000 species of plants in the family Fabaceae and the genus Acacia.

Mimosa” was originally the scientific name for ‘Osmanthus,’ but when it was imported from Australia to Europe, the acacia’s leaves resembled those of the mimosa (Osmanthus), and so it came to be called ”mimosa acacia.

Although it is an acacia, the common name “mimosa” is used for another plant, which seems to be a complicated situation.

The mimosa commonly seen in Japan is “ginyou acacia,” which is planted along roadsides, in parks, and in gardens. It is characterized by its leaves called “silverleaf,” which is also the origin of the name “ginyou. Its chic atmosphere makes it popular as an indoor decoration.

In Europe, “Fusa acacia” is mainly distributed, and although it has few flowers, its long, delicate leaves are so beautiful and popular that they are compared to bird’s feathers.

Mimosa festivals are also held in various parts of the world.

One famous example is the “Mimosa Festival” in France. It is held every February in Mondreuilanapour on the Ricote d’Azur in southern France. The highlight of the festival is a flower parade of floats decorated with local mimosas. Along with the “Lemon Festival of Menton” and the “Carnival of Nice,” it is one of the “three major festivals in the south of France.

In Australia, the country of origin of the mimosa, the mimosa is called the wattle, and September 1 is “Wattle Day” (Acacia Day). On this day, people wear wattle flowers and branches to welcome the arrival of spring.

March 8 is also designated as “International Women’s Day” by the United Nations, also known as Mimosa Day. Various proposals are made to help women shine brighter in an equal society without discrimination.

The day originated from a demonstration in New York City that took place on March 8, 1904, demanding women’s suffrage.

It is also the custom for men to give mimosas to women as a token of their gratitude, and on this day in Italy, the entire country is painted yellow, the color of mimosas.

In Japan, I don’t think mimosa plays such a leading role in spring. Perhaps the power of cherry blossoms is too strong.

Come to think of it, there is also a fashionable cocktail called Mimosa. This cocktail was created at the bar of the five-star Ritz Paris hotel in Paris, and was called “Champagne Lo Lange (champagne and orange)” at the time. The yellow color of the cocktail is mimosa, which makes it easy to drink and popular among women.

The recipe calls for adding champagne or sparkling wine and an equal amount of orange juice and stirring. It is easier than you might think, as there is no need to shuffle the ingredients around in a shaker. If you replace the orange juice with grapefruit juice, you can make a “White Mimosa” cocktail.

This shwashy and refreshing cocktail may be perfect for the coming season. Please note, however, that the alcohol content is not low.

本日は、ここ名古屋爽やかな晴天。桜の花もそろそろ満開のピークを越え、花弁がひらひらと舞い始めて参りました。そんな、舞い散る花弁の中を自転車にて通り過ぎておりましたら、その名古屋地方気象台の敷地にあります桜の花びらのであることに気づきました。

しばし自転車をとめて仰ぎ見ますと、満開の桜の隙間から青空にそびえる白亜のレーダードームが顔を覗かせています。

こちらの名古屋地方気象台、ご存じの通りこの地域の地上気象観測や地域気象観測（アメダス）、生物季節観測からなる気象観測業務、予報業務、地震情報・防災・広報業務をおこなっておりまして、一日に一度は、TVなどのお天気予報や地震情報などでお世話になっていますよね。

実はここ名古屋は、名古屋地方気象台の敷地内に桜の標本木がありまして、この桜の開花によって、この近辺の開花宣言が発信されるようです。

こちらの施設、古美術風光舎から自転車で５分くらいのいたって普通の住宅地の小高い山の上にあるのですが、職員の方や関係者の方しかこちらの施設内には立ち入ることはできないません。ですので、標本木を間近で見ることはできません。

施設の入り口のぎりぎりのところまでお邪魔して、なんとかのぞいて探してみましたが、わかるはずないか…。構内には何本かの満開の桜が咲いておりましたが、どれが標本木かは残念ながら確認はできませんでした。

噂によると、かなりの老木のようで樹齢は定かではないようですが、1923年にこちらの気象台から開設されているようですのでそれより以前にはここに存在していたのでしょうか。また、不測の事態のために二代目も育てているようですので、どうぞご安心を。

そんな名古屋の桜開花は、この施設の敷地内のソメイヨシノに5～6輪以上の花が開いた状態となった日に発表されます。先ほども述べた通り、こちらの敷地内は東京の靖国神社のように一般の人が立ち入ることはできませんので、「桜開花発表だって、花見行くぞっ！」というような周りの盛り上がりはなさそうなので、少し寂しい…いえいえ落ち着いた開花宣言ができそうですね。まあ、TV大騒ぎしているような周りからのプレッシャーがないのは良い事かもしれません笑。

結局のところ標本木は確認できませんでしたが、この抜けるような青空と真っ白なレーダードームそして満開の桜は贅沢にも独り占めですることできました。そんなひらひらと舞う花びらのなかを「この風景は目に焼き付けよう」と思いながら自転車で走り抜けた朝となりました。

Today is a beautiful sunny day here in Nagoya. The cherry blossoms have almost reached their peak of full bloom, and the petals are beginning to flutter in the air. As I rode my bicycle past the fluttering petals, I noticed that they were the petals of a cherry tree on the grounds of the Nagoya Regional Meteorological Observatory.

I stopped my bicycle for a moment and looked up to see the white radar dome peeking out from between the cherry blossoms in full bloom, towering into the blue sky.

As you know, the Nagoya District Meteorological Observatory is in charge of weather observation, forecasting, earthquake information, disaster prevention, and public relations for the region, including ground meteorological observation, regional meteorological observation (AMeDAS), and seasonal biological observation.

In Nagoya, there is a sample cherry blossom tree on the grounds of the Nagoya District Meteorological Observatory, and the blooming of the cherry blossoms is used to declare the blooming of the cherry trees in the surrounding area.

This facility is located on top of a small hill in a normal residential area, about 5 minutes by bicycle from the Nagoya Branch of Fumikosha Antiques, but only employees and related persons are allowed to enter the facility. Therefore, you cannot see the specimen tree up close.

I managed to get as close as I could to the entrance of the facility to take a peek and look for the specimen tree, but there was no way to tell…. There were several cherry trees in full bloom on the premises, but unfortunately we could not confirm which one was the specimen tree.

Rumor has it that the tree is quite old and its age is not certain, but it was established in 1923 from the weather station here, so it must have existed here earlier than that. Also, it seems that a second generation is being raised for unforeseen circumstances, so please don’t worry.

The blooming of cherry blossoms in Nagoya is announced on the day when more than five or six flowers open on the Someiyoshino trees on the premises of this facility. As mentioned earlier, the public is not allowed to enter the grounds of this facility, like Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, so there is no excitement around the facility as if to say, “The cherry blossoms are blooming! So, it seems that we will be able to declare the blooming of the cherry blossoms in a calm and peaceful manner. Well, maybe it is a good thing that there is no pressure from the people around us, as if there is a big fuss on TV, lol.

Although I couldn’t find any specimen trees, I was able to enjoy the blue sky, the white radar dome, and the cherry blossoms in full bloom all to myself. I rode my bicycle through the fluttering petals, thinking, “I’m going to burn this scenery into my eyes.

色とりどりの花が目を楽しませてくれる季節となりました。花の名前がすぐに浮かばない自分を歯がゆく思いながらも、庭先の植木鉢に植えられた花々を鑑賞させていただいております。

風光舎にも素敵な瀬戸焼の植木鉢が仲間入りしておりまして、淡い緑がなんとも優しく、可憐な花が一面に描かれております。

さて４月を迎え、新しいスタートを切っている方も多いのではないでしょうか？

私は４月より新しく始まった朝の連続テレビ小説「あんぱん」を楽しみに観ております。今や国民的キャラクターである「アンパンマン」を生み出した漫画家のやなせたかしさんと妻の暢（のぶ）さんをモデルにした物語となっています。

今朝の放送では子ども時代のたかし、のぶ、たかしの弟がシーソーに乗って遊んでいるシーンがありました。やなせ氏は後に「シーソー」という詩を書きます。ネタバレしてしまいますので詳しくは書けませんが、せつない気持ちになりました。

アンパンマンといえば丸い顔に赤い鼻の三頭身。このシンプルな姿が幼児を引き付ける要因であるともいわれます。

絵を描くことが苦手な私が、子どもに描いてとせがまれて描ける数少ないキャラクターでもありました。

幼児は生きていくために他者の顔を認識することが必須で、また直線より曲線を好み、コントラストが強い図形に引かれるといいます。

名前の響きも重要で、２歳児はア形、パ行、バ行、マ行、ヤ行、ワ、ンの発語が得意だそうで、ママ、パパ、ワンワンと並びアンパンマンも発話しやすい音のオンパレードで、自ら言葉にして呼ぶことで更に愛着がわくのだそうです。やなせ氏が意識していたかどうかはわかりませんが、偶然だとしたら凄いことです。

１９７３年、やなせ氏５４歳の時に幼児向けの絵本で「アンパンマン」が掲載され、漫画家としてはかなり遅咲きだったようです。実はその数年前に太ったおじさんのアンパンマンを描いており、今のアンパンマンの姿からはかけ離れていますが、いずれも悪を倒すヒーローというより、お腹が空いた人に食べ物を与えるというキャラクターでしす。しかし当時大人には大不評で、自分をかじらせるなんて残酷だ、子どもにウケるはずがないなどと酷評されたそうです。正直私も初めてテレビで観た時は、頭をかじられたアンパンマンに軽く衝撃を受けました。

私ならそこまで酷評されたら、くじけて描くのをやめてしまいそうですが、やなせ氏には強い信念があったようです。

やなせ氏は日中戦争に出征しており、暗号の解読などに携わっていたため前線で戦うことはありませんでしたが、耐えがたい空腹は強烈な記憶として残りました。また戦争では正義だと信じていたものが簡単に正義ではなくなり逆転するということを経験し、逆転しない正義は献身と愛であり、お腹を空かせた人に食べ物を与えることは逆転しない正義だと考えたのだとか。

そして「ほんとうの正義は決して格好のいいものではなく、そのために必ず自分も深く傷つくもの」という信念をアンパンマンを通して伝えたかったのだといいます。

子供にとってパンは食べるもの、お腹を空かせた人に食べてもらったらうれしいはずとシンプルに捉え、難しい内容だとしても何が悪くて、何が良い事なのか本質的につかむ能力があるのだとか。やなせ氏は子供の力を信じていたのかもしれません。

そして、６９歳の時にテレビアニメ化され「それいけ！アンパンマン」は大ヒットすることとなります。

私はテレビを観ながら、やなせ氏作詞のテーマ曲「アンパンマンのマーチ」を何度も聴いてはいたのですが、あるタイミングで突然歌詞が突き刺さったことがあります。子供であっても初めは意味も分からず口ずさみ、ある日すっと納得し、励まされる時がくるのかもしれません。東日本大震災でもこの歌は子供たちの心の支えになったといいます。

実はテレビで流れていた「アンパンマンのマーチ」は２番の歌詞だそうで、１番は子どもには理解が難しすぎるのではと考えられたとか。ちなみに３番の歌詞は「時ははやくすぎる、光る星は消える、だから君はいくんだ、ほほえんで」です。深すぎます。

「手のひらを太陽に」もやなせ氏の作詞だそうで驚きましたが、改めて歌ってみると、やなぎさんの人柄が溢れる詩だなと納得しました。

It is the season for colorful flowers to delight our eyes. I am ashamed that I cannot name the flowers immediately, but I am appreciating the flowers in flowerpots in the garden.

We have also added a lovely Seto-yaki flowerpot to our collection, and the pale green background is very gentle and pretty flowers are painted all over it.

Now that April has arrived, many of you may be making a new start, right?

I am looking forward to watching “Anpan,” a new morning TV series that started in April. The story is based on the cartoonist Takashi Yanase and his wife Nobu, who created the now nationally known character “Anpanman.

In this morning’s broadcast, there was a scene showing Takashi, Nobu, and Takashi’s younger brother as children playing on a seesaw. Yanase would later write a poem titled “Seesaw. I can’t go into details because it would spoil the story, but it made me feel sad.

Anpanman is a three-headed man with a round face and a red nose. It is said that this simple figure is what attracts young children.

I am not good at drawing, but Anpanman is one of the few characters that I could draw when asked to do so by my children.

It is said that infants need to recognize other people’s faces in order to survive, prefer curved lines to straight lines, and are drawn to figures with strong contrasts.

The sound of their names is also important, and 2-year-olds are good at saying “A,” “P,” “B,” “Ma,” “Y,” “Wa,” and “N.” Anpanman, along with Mama, Papa, and Wan Wan, is a parade of sounds that are easy for them to utter, and they become even more attached to him when they call him by their own words. I am not sure if Mr. Yanase was aware of this, but if it was a coincidence, it would be amazing.

In 1973, when Yanase was 54 years old, “Anpanman” was published in a picture book for young children, making him a rather late bloomer as a manga artist. In fact, a few years before that, he had drawn a fat old man named Anpanman, a far cry from the Anpanman of today, both of which were characters who gave food to the hungry rather than heroes who defeated evil. At the time, however, Anpanman was very unpopular with adults, who criticized him, saying that it was cruel to make him eat his own food and that it would never be popular with children. To be honest, when I first saw it on TV, I was mildly shocked to see Anpanman’s head bitten off.

If it were me, I would have given up and stopped drawing if I had been criticized that badly, but Mr. Yanase seemed to have a strong belief in his work.

Mr. Yanase was in the Sino-Japanese War, and although he did not fight in the front line because he was involved in deciphering codes, his unbearable hunger remains as a strong memory. He also experienced that in war, what he believed to be justice could easily be reversed, and he thought that the justice that could not be reversed was devotion and love, and that giving food to the hungry was the justice that could not be reversed.

Through Anpanman, he wanted to convey his belief that “true justice is not something that is cool, and that you will always be deeply hurt for it.

He believes that children have the ability to grasp the essence of what is wrong and what is good, even if it is difficult to understand. Perhaps Yanase believed in the power of children.

And at the age of 69, “Soreike, Anpanman” was made into an animated TV series and became a huge hit! Anpanman” became a huge hit.

I had listened to “Anpanman’s March,” the theme song written by Yanase, many times while watching TV, and at some point the lyrics suddenly hit me. Even children may start out humming the song without understanding the meaning, and then one day, they may suddenly understand and be encouraged by the lyrics. It is said that this song was a source of emotional support for children in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In fact, “Anpanman’s March” played on TV was the second verse of the song, and the first verse was thought to be too difficult for children to understand. By the way, the third verse is “Time goes by too fast, the shining star disappears, so you go, smiling. It is too deep.

I was surprised to hear that “Palm of the Hand to the Sun” was also written by Yanase, but when I sang it again, I was convinced that the poem is full of Yanase’s personality.

ご近所の山崎川に少し立ち寄ってみたのですが、桜並木が満開でありました。このところお天気が悪いため、せっかくの満開の桜が私のテクニックでは上手く撮れません…。これまでかなり晴天頼みだったことがバレバレですね。

ところで今朝、携帯電話に留守電が入っておりました。母親がお世話になっている病院からだったのですが、文字で再生の部分を読み返してみますと「○○さん（母が）が骨折してまして…」となっており、あわてて折り返し電話をしたところ、どうやら音声から文字の誤変換だったらしく、骨折ではないようでした汗。伝言を聴き直しても、なぜ「骨折」に変換されたのかよくわからないのですが、今日が４月１日だっただけに留守番メッセージもエイプリルフール仕様なのかと、苦笑いでありました。

そう、今日は４月１日。そんな慌ただしい日にエイプリルフールどころじゃないぞ、などと言われてしまいそうですが。本日新しいスタートを迎えたかたも多いのではないでしょうか。普段とは違う入園式らしきファミリーや真新しいスーツを着た学生さんや社会人らしき人が通勤の車からもまあまあわかりまして、どことなく街中が右往左往の一日であることが伝わってきます。

でもちょっとエイプリルフール乗っかりたい人もいると思いますが、どうやらうっすらルールがあるこをご存知だったのでしょうか。

エイプリルフールの発祥の地はフランスなのですが、「エイプリルフールは他愛のない嘘で笑いを誘って楽しむ日」が発端なのですが、日本でエイプリルフールが始まったのは大正・明治の半ば。結構昔からあるようですね。それ以前は、日本では4月1日は「不義理の日」とされ「日頃義理を欠いてしまっている人に対して、手紙や挨拶でご無沙汰を詫びる日」とされていたようなんです。エイプリルフールとは真逆じゃないですか…。

楽しむ上でいくつかの有名なルールといえば、やはり「エイプリルフールの嘘は午前中までしかついてはいけない、午後からネタバラシをしなければいけない」というルールでしょうか。

このルールの発祥にはいくつかの諸説があるのですが、現在最も有力とされているのが“イギリス発祥”という説。イングランドでは元々、5月29日を「オークアップルデー」とし、1660年の王政復古の記念日としてお祝いをしてきました。この日は国王に忠誠を誓う証として帽子や襟元にオークアップルの実を飾るという習わしがあります。

この習わしはチャールズ2世がオークの樹に身を隠れて追手から逃れたという故事にちなんでおり、この日にオークアップルの実をつけていない人は「国王への忠誠心が足りないぞ」と、なにやらからかわれるそうなんです。

それでは何故このオークアップルデーが「嘘が午前中だけ」というルールの発祥となったのか。それは、そのオークアップルの実を身に着けている必要があるのが午前中だけだからです。午後になるとからかった相手にからかったことを謝り皆で笑い合うのですが、決してからかって終わりにはせず、次の日にわだかまりを残さないよう謝って笑い合うまでがルールとなっているようです。

からかった（午前中）後には最後に笑って終わる（午後）という流れはエイプリルフールとよく似ていることから、このルールの流れがいつの頃からかエイプリルフールにも適用されるようになり、今ではこのルールが世界的に有名になったようであります。

そういえば、私が携帯電話に伝言がはいっていたのも午前中…。あ、でもこれはエイプリルフールではありませんよ。

I stopped by the Yamazaki River in my neighborhood and found the rows of cherry trees in full bloom. Because the weather has been so bad recently, my technique has not been good enough to capture the cherry blossoms in full bloom…. It is obvious that I have been relying on the clear weather so far.

By the way, there was a voice mail on my cell phone this morning. It was from the hospital where my mother is taking care of me, and when I read back the part of the message, it said, “Mr. XX (my mother) has a broken bone…” I called back in a panic. I called back in a panic. It seemed that it was a voice-to-text misconversion and not a broken bone. I listened to the message again and could not understand why it was converted to “bone fracture,” but I was laughing, wondering if the answering machine’s message was also April Fool’s Day-specific since today was April 1.

Yes, today is April 1. I know you might say, “April Fool’s Day is not enough on such a hectic day. I am sure there are many people who have made a new start today. I could see from my commuter’s car that there are many families who are attending a different kind of entrance ceremony, and students and workers in brand-new suits.

But there are some people who want to get in on the April Fool’s Day fun, and I wonder if they knew that there are even a few rules.

April Fool’s Day originated in France, where “April Fool’s Day is a day to have fun and laugh at silly lies. It seems that April Fool’s Day has been around for quite a long time. Before that, April 1 was regarded as “a day to apologize to those who have been ungrateful to you by writing letters or greeting them. It is the exact opposite of April Fool’s Day….

A few famous rules for fun are still the rule that April Fool’s Day lies can only be told until the morning, and that the story must be broken in the afternoon.

There are several theories as to the origin of this rule, but the most popular theory is that it originated in England. In England, May 29 was originally celebrated as “Oak Apple Day” to commemorate the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. On this day, the custom is to display an oak-apple on one’s hat or lapel as a sign of allegiance to the King.

This custom is based on the legend that King Charles II escaped his pursuers by hiding under an oak tree, and those who do not wear an oak apple on this day are teased for not being loyal enough to the King.

So why did this Oak Apple Day become the origin of the “lie only in the morning” rule? It is because it is only in the morning that you need to wear the oak-apple fruit. In the afternoon, we apologize to the person we made fun of and laugh together, but we never end the teasing.

The rule is that after the teasing (in the morning), the laughing ends (in the afternoon), which is very similar to April Fool’s Day.

Come to think of it, I had a message on my cell phone in the morning…. Oh, but this is not April Fool’s Day.
