変な乗り物が多いことでおなじみの愛知県。

バスなのに鉄道扱いの ゆとりーとライン や、浮いて走るリニアの Linimo など、「それ本当に鉄道？」と二度見したくなる乗り物がそろっています。

そんな名古屋に、2026年2月13日、またひとつ“クセ強め”な新交通が誕生しました。

金ピカの長〜いバス、その名はSRT（Smart Roadway Transit）。名古屋駅と栄を結ぶ新しい交通システムです。

それがこちら。

金ピカ車体の長ーいバス。しかもメルセデス・ベンツ製。

トヨタのお膝元でベンツとは…と思わなくもないですが、そこはきっと大人の事情でしょう。

専用レーンは使わず、普通の道路を走る“次世代型の路面バス”なのだそう。

……「次世代型の路面バス？」と聞かれると連結バスと何が違うのかと少し悩みますが、そこは雰囲気で楽しんでください。

運賃は先払いで、大人210円 子ども100円。

ちょっとお得なのは、1日上限500円（大人） の仕組み。

クレジットカードなどのタッチ決済を使うと、その日何回乗っても最大500円でストップするのだそう。自動的に“1日乗車券化”するという、なかなか賢いシステムです。観光や買い物の周遊にかなり便利ですね。

さらにICカード manaca を使えば、市バスや地下鉄との乗り継ぎ割引（80円引き）も適用されます。

ただし、名古屋市交通局の運営ではないため「ドニチエコきっぷ」は使えません。

また、SRTの売りは「全扉から乗れる」ことですが、支払い方法によってはルールがありますので注意が必要です。キャッシュレスの場合はどの扉からでも利用できますが、現金・敬老パス・福祉特別乗車券の場合は一番前の扉から乗り、先に運賃を支払います。特に敬老パスを利用している方は、一旦支払う必要があるので、あらかじめチャージしておくのを忘れずに。事前に残高確認が必要なのはちょっと盲点ですね。

ルートは、名古屋駅〜栄間を主に広小路通経由で走行。

停車場所は、

・名古屋駅（ミッドランドスクエア前）

・名古屋駅桜通

・柳橋

・納屋橋

・広小路本町

・栄（久屋大通公園・希望の広場前）

名古屋駅はあの ミッドランドスクエア 前から発着。栄側は 久屋大通公園 付近です。観光にも買い物にも、ちょうどいいルートです。

また、現時点では「金・土・日・月・祝日」の およそ 9時台〜17時台のみの運行です。まだまだ実験色が強めで、平日ど真ん中には乗れないのでご注意を。

まだまだ始まったばかりのSRT。一般車より遅いと渋滞の原因になったり、市バスとのすみ分けは？平日運行は？などなど、気になる点もあります。

でも、連節バス特有の“ぐにゃり”と曲がるあのダイナミックな動きは一見の価値ありです。

さて、このSRT。名古屋の新名物になるのか、それとも期間限定の挑戦で終わるのか。

一度、ピカピカの車体に乗って確かめてみたくなりますね。

Aichi Prefecture is known for its many unusual vehicles.

It boasts a lineup of vehicles that make you do a double take, wondering “Is that really a train?”—like the Yutori-to Line, which is a bus treated as a railway, and the floating, maglev-powered Linimo.

On February 13, 2026, another uniquely quirky new transportation system was born in Nagoya.

A long, shiny gold bus—its name is SRT (Smart Roadway Transit). It’s a new transportation system connecting Nagoya Station and Sakae.

Here it is.

You might wonder why a Mercedes in Toyota’s backyard… but that’s probably just grown-up politics.

It’s a “next-generation street bus” that runs on regular roads, not dedicated lanes.

…When asked, “Next-generation street bus?” I do wonder how it differs from an articulated bus, but just enjoy the vibe.

Fares are paid upfront: 210 yen for adults, 100 yen for children.

A bit of a bargain is the system capping the daily fare at 500 yen (for adults).

If you use contactless payment like a credit card, it stops at a maximum of 500 yen no matter how many times you ride that day. It automatically turns into a “one-day pass” – a pretty smart system. It’s quite convenient for sightseeing or shopping trips around town.

Furthermore, using the manaca IC card also applies a transfer discount (80 yen off) when connecting to city buses or the subway.

However, since it’s not operated by the Nagoya City Transportation Bureau, the “Donichi Eco Ticket” cannot be used.

Also, while SRT’s selling point is “boarding from any door,” rules apply depending on your payment method. Cashless payments allow boarding from any door, but cash, Senior Citizen Passes, and Welfare Special Tickets require boarding from the front door and paying the fare first. Especially for Senior Citizen Pass users, remember to top up your card beforehand since you’ll need to pay upfront. Having to check your balance in advance is a bit of a blind spot.

The route primarily runs between Nagoya Station and Sakae via Hirokoji Street.

Stops include:

・Nagoya Station (in front of Midland Square)
・Nagoya Station Sakura-dori
・Yanagibashi
・Nayabashi
・Hirokoji Honmachi
・Sakae (in front of Hisaya-odori Park / Kibou no Hiroba)

At Nagoya Station, it departs from and arrives at the front of that Midland Square. The Sakae side is near Hisaya Odori Park. It’s a great route for both sightseeing and shopping.

Also, currently, it only runs on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and holidays, roughly from 9 AM to 5 PM. It still has a strong experimental feel, so please note you can’t ride it during peak weekday hours.

The SRT is still in its early stages. Will it cause traffic jams if it’s slower than regular cars? How will it share the road with city buses? Will it run on weekdays? There are still many points of interest.

But the dynamic, “squiggly” way it turns, unique to articulated buses, is definitely worth seeing.

So, this SRT. Will it become a new Nagoya attraction, or will it end as a limited-time experiment?

It makes you want to hop aboard its shiny body and find out for yourself.

先日の大河ドラマ「豊臣兄弟！」

寝返った鵜沼城の城主大沢次郎左衛門が城をあけ渡し、信長が「いよいよ犬山城か…！」と、いったシーンで終わったのですが、そういえば先日ちょうど犬山に友人とランチに行く約束をしていまして。

狙ってこの時期にしたわけではなかったのですが、たまたまとはいえ、自分も「いよいよ犬山城か…」の信長みたいな気持ちそのままで犬山、そして犬山城へいってまいりました。

お天気サイコーでして、腕前いまいちのカメラマンFでもなんとか綺麗に撮れました。

土塁も残っています

犬山城といえば、全国に12しかない現存天守のひとつでして、しかも、1601(慶長5)年築で現存最古(諸説あり)の天守であります。こちらの建物自体は信長時代ではないのですが、最上階まで登ると鵜沼城、伊木山城との位置関係がよくわかります。

木曽川を挟んで南岸が尾張、北岸が美濃。犬山城はその南岸に立つまさに境目の城でして、対岸にはさきほどドラマ内で秀吉が人質となり、城主の大沢次郎左衛門(松尾諭)を説得しようとした鵜沼城。さらにもうひとつ伊木山城もあります。伊木山城のさらに右奥には、当時、美濃を領していた斎藤家の本城、稲葉山城のシルエットも見えており、どの城跡も目視できるので、その近さがまさに戦国の世のバチバチした緊張感のある関係性であることを物語っています。

その中でも犬山城は木曽川にせり出す断崖上に立っており、まさに難攻不落の城といった佇まい。眼下の木曽川の流れをはさんで犬山城が丸見えでいて標高差があるので上からすべてを見下ろす格好になっています。これなら犬山城内の動きが手に取るようにわかったのでしょうし、城攻めのための陣を敷くのには理想的な立地だといえます。

天守の中も戦国時代の城、戦いに備えた城といった佇まいです。実は、平日だったにもかかわらず天守最上階は昇降の人で列ができており、週末や祭日は入城するまでの列ができているようです。ちなみに階段の傾斜は先日訪れた丸岡城よりは急ではありませんでした笑。

そんなつもりではなかったのですが、大河ドラマのまさにストーリーの最中のまさに現場ということで、気分はすっかり戦国武将に。いろいろ城を登ってるほうなのですが、天守に登りまわりを見渡すと、誰しも戦国武将の気持ちになれるナンバーワンの城だと自分は思いますので是非一度は登ってほしい城ですね。

The recent historical drama “Toyotomi Brothers!”

It ended with the scene where Osawa Jirozaemon, the lord of Unuma Castle who had defected, surrendered the castle, and Nobunaga declared, “So it’s finally Inuyama Castle…!” Come to think of it, I had just made plans with a friend to go to Inuyama for lunch the other day.

It wasn’t planned for this time, but coincidentally, I ended up going to Inuyama and Inuyama Castle feeling exactly like Nobunaga did in that “Finally, Inuyama Castle…” moment. The weather was absolutely perfect, and even an amateur photographer like me managed to take some nice shots.

Earthen ramparts remain

Speaking of Inuyama Castle, it’s one of only 12 original castle towers still standing nationwide. Moreover, built in 1601 (Keichō 5), it’s the oldest surviving castle tower (though opinions vary). While the current structure itself isn’t from Nobunaga’s era, climbing to the top floor gives you a great view of the positions of Unuma Castle and Ikiyama Castle. The Kiso River divides the region, with Owari on the south bank and Mino on the north. Inuyama Castle stands precisely on the southern bank, a border castle. Across the river lies Unuma Castle, where Hideyoshi was held hostage in the drama and attempted to persuade its lord, Osawa Jirozaemon (played by Satoshi Matsuo). Further beyond is Ikigayama Castle. Further to the right and rear of Ikigayama Castle, the silhouette of Inabayama Castle, the main stronghold of the Saito clan who ruled Mino at the time, is also visible. The fact that all these castle ruins are visible to the naked eye truly conveys the intense, tense relationships of the Warring States period.

Among them, Inuyama Castle stands on a cliff jutting out over the Kiso River, embodying the very image of an impregnable fortress. The castle is fully visible across the flowing Kiso River below, and the elevation difference allows for a commanding view from above. This vantage point would have made the movements within Inuyama Castle perfectly clear, making it an ideal location for setting up camp to attack the castle.

Inside the keep, too, it has the feel of a castle from the Warring States period, a castle prepared for battle. Actually, even though it was a weekday, there was a line of people waiting to ascend to the top floor of the keep. On weekends and holidays, it seems there’s a line just to enter the castle grounds. By the way, the staircase wasn’t as steep as the one at Maruoka Castle I visited recently, lol.

I hadn’t intended it, but being right in the middle of the historical drama’s story, right at the actual location, I completely felt like a Sengoku warlord. I’ve climbed quite a few castles, but when you ascend the keep and look out over the surroundings, I truly believe this is the number one castle where anyone can feel like a Sengoku warlord. It’s definitely a castle I recommend climbing at least once.

雛飾りや五月人形などを飾る季節がやってくると、一方で、「手放したいけれど…」というお問い合わせも多くいただきます。

お客様に処分しようと思ったきっかけは何ですかとお尋ねいたしますと、

・子どもが成人・結婚した

・引っ越しや家の建て替え

・収納スペースが足りない

 ・親の家の片付け（実家じまい）

などなど、どうやら「役目を終えたかな」と思ったタイミングが手放しどきになることが多いようです。

このように家に眠った日本人形を手放したいとき、「捨てる」のではなく買取に出す方法があります。

ひな人形や市松人形、五月人形などは、状態や種類によって査定額は大きく変わりますが、日本人形を高く買取してもらうためのポイントをいくつかお伝えします。

1. どんな日本人形が買取されやすいのか？

買取市場で人気があるのは、やはり伝統的で美しい造形の人形です。

・ひな人形

When we ask customers what prompted them to consider disposal, we often hear:

It seems the moment people feel “perhaps their purpose is fulfilled” often becomes the time to part with them.

When you wish to part with Japanese dolls stored away at home, instead of discarding them, consider selling them.

While appraisal values for Hina dolls, Ichimatsu dolls, and May dolls vary significantly based on condition and type, here are some key points for getting a higher price when selling Japanese dolls.

1. What types of Japanese dolls are most likely to be purchased?

Traditional, beautifully crafted dolls remain popular in the buying market.

・Hina Dolls
The opulence of the costumes and the condition of the doll’s face directly impact the appraisal. Traditional tiered displays are especially in high demand.

・Ichimatsu Dolls

・Ensure Accessories Are Complete

In addition to accessories like display stands, folding screens, and paper lanterns, having the original box and instruction manual may increase the appraisal value.

・Consider the Season

Requesting appraisals for Hina dolls from January to February and May dolls from April to May coincides with higher demand, potentially leading to better appraisal values.

3. Choosing a Purchase Method

There are three main purchase methods:

・Specialty Shops
Strong with artist-made pieces and traditional crafts; likely to offer fair appraisals

・Recycle Shops

Convenient for quick appraisals, but prices for common dolls may be lower.

・Online Auctions & Flea Markets
Allows you to set your own price for rare items, potentially selling for high amounts.

Unfortunately, a high purchase price doesn’t necessarily mean a high resale value. For items like hina dolls, where resale demand is limited, condition and brand are the most critical factors.

Hina dolls carry cultural significance as symbols wishing for a child’s healthy growth, so many people hesitate to simply throw them away as trash. Dolls like hina, ichimatsu, and samurai dolls, which embellish Japan’s traditional culture, can sometimes fetch unexpectedly high valuations when sold. Why not consider consulting us?

２月にしては少し不気味な暖かさですね。戸惑っている方もおいでではないでしょうか。

今朝の通勤中、皆さま何を着ているのか見ておりましたが、ダウンコートやウールのコートなど着ている方はあまりいませんでした。困りましたね。毎年恒例、春の「何着ていいか問題」が、頭をよぎりました。これも自分の中の春の風物詩ではありますが…。

さて、暖かくなってくるとそろそろ「春一番」という言葉を耳にする頃ですが、今日2月15日は「春一番名付けの日」とされています。

春一番とは、「季節が冬から春へと変わる時期にはじめて吹く、南寄りの風のこと」ですが、こう書くと、とてものどかなそよ風のような印象を受けますが、実際はまったくそんなことはありませんよね。

気象庁で「春一番が吹きました」と発表する場合は、このような条件のときです。

・立春（2月4日頃）から春分（3月21日頃）までの期間に限る。
・日本海に低気圧がある。低気圧が発達すればより理想的である。
・関東地方に強い南風が吹き昇温する。具体的には東京において、最大風速が風力５（風速8.0m/s）以上、風向は西南西～南～東南東で、前日より気温が高い。
※上記は関東地方の場合。ほかの地方は各気象台がその地方の特性に合わせて独自に定義しています

風速8.0m/sというと、時速に換算すると28.8km/hとのことですので、結構なスピードがあります。洗濯物を干していたら飛ばされそうになるくらいの風ですね。
「春」というのどかなイメージとはうらはらに、油断できない強さの風が吹くということになります。

とはいえ、ニュースで「春一番が吹きました」と聞くと、「ああ、もうすぐ春だな」とちょっと嬉しくなります。

これも毎度のことながら、ニュースで「本日、関東で春一番が吹きました」となんて聞きくと、「よし、もう寒くない！」と勝手に勘違いしてだいたい失敗します。

ある年のこと、例の如く春が来たと思い込み、ちょっと薄手のコートで出かけました。ところが…風が強すぎる。暖かいどころか、向かい風で前に進まない。髪は大爆発、スカートはひらひらどころかバッサバサ。信号待ちでは、隣の人のマフラーが風に舞い、私の顔に直撃。お互いに「すみません」と言いながら、なぜかちょっと笑ってしまった…なんてこともありました。

さらに追い打ちをかけるように、翌日は真冬並みの寒さに逆戻り。「春どこいった？」と言いたくなるような展開で、まさに「三寒四温」を実感したなんてことはいつものことであります。

ちなみに、春一番が吹かない年もあります。立春から春分の間に低気圧がやってきて南寄りの風が吹いても、風速8.0m/s以下なら春一番ではないですし、春分のあとに風速8.0m/s以上の南寄りの風が吹いても「春一番」とはいわないのだそうです。

さて、今年は春一番が吹くのでしょうか？　「そろそろ吹きそうかな？」とワクワクするのもこの季節の楽しみのひとつかもしれませんね。

It’s a bit eerily warm for February, isn’t it? I bet some of you are feeling a bit confused.

On my commute this morning, I was observing what everyone was wearing, but not many people had on down coats or wool coats. That’s a problem. The annual spring dilemma of “what to wear” crossed my mind. It’s become a spring tradition for me too…

Now, as it warms up, we start hearing the term “haru ichiban” (first spring wind). Today, February 15th, is designated as “Haru Ichiban Naming Day.”

Haru ichiban refers to “the first southerly wind that blows when the season shifts from winter to spring.” Writing it like this gives the impression of a gentle, peaceful breeze, but in reality, it’s nothing like that, right?

The Japan Meteorological Agency announces “The first spring wind has blown” when these conditions are met:

・Limited to the period from the start of spring (around February 4th) to the spring equinox (around March 21st).
・A low-pressure system is present over the Sea of Japan. A developing low-pressure system is more ideal.
・Strong southerly winds blow into the Kanto region, causing a temperature rise. Specifically, in Tokyo: maximum wind speed reaches Force 5 (wind speed 8.0 m/s) or higher, wind direction is from the southwest to south to southeast, and the temperature is higher than the previous day.
※The above applies to the Kanto region. Other regions have their own definitions tailored to local conditions by their respective meteorological observatories.

Wind speeds of 8.0 m/s translate to about 28.8 km/h, which is quite fast. It’s the kind of wind that could blow away laundry if you’re hanging it out.
Contrary to the peaceful image of “spring,” this wind blows with a strength that demands caution.

Still, hearing the news say “The first spring wind has blown” makes me think, “Ah, spring is almost here,” and I feel a little happy.

But as always, when the news announces, “Today, the first spring wind blew across the Kanto region,” I mistakenly think, “Great, no more cold!” and usually end up regretting it.

One year, convinced spring had arrived as usual, I went out wearing a thin coat. But… the wind was too strong. Far from being warm, the headwind made it impossible to move forward. My hair exploded, and my skirt wasn’t just fluttering—it was flapping wildly. At a traffic light, the scarf of the person next to me flew up and hit me square in the face. We both said “Sorry,” but somehow ended up laughing a little… That sort of thing happened.

To make matters worse, the next day brought freezing cold, like the dead of winter. It felt like asking, “Where did spring go?”—a perfect example of experiencing “three cold days, four warm days” firsthand. That’s just how it always goes.

Incidentally, some years see no Haru Ichiban at all. Even if a low-pressure system brings southerly winds between Risshun (the start of spring) and Spring Equinox, winds below 8.0 m/s don’t qualify as Haru Ichiban. Likewise, southerly winds exceeding 8.0 m/s after the Spring Equinox aren’t called Haru Ichiban either.

今年もバレンタインの季節がやって来ました。最近は「好きな人へ気持ちを伝える」よりも、家族や友人への感謝や、「自分へのご褒美」としてチョコを楽しむ人の方が多いかもしれませんね。バレンタインは今や、「告白の日」から「感謝を伝える日」や「スイーツを楽しむ日」へと変化していますね。

最近の中高校生のバレンタイン事情はどうなっているのでしょうか。ひと昔前までは、友チョコを手作りしてクラス全員にばらまくのが定番で、前日の夜にキッチンを占領して、大量のチョコを溶かし、ラッピングまでこだわって寝不足…なんて話もよく聞きましたが。

実際、知り合いの高校2年生の女の子は、1年生のときにクラス30人分のブラウニーを焼いたそうです。ところが当日、「ナッツ入ってる？」「アレルギー大丈夫かな」と心配する声が出て、配る側ももらう側も少し気まずい空気に。さらに「手作りはちょっと不安」という本音も耳にして、翌年は個包装の市販チョコに切り替えたと言っていました。「そのほうが気楽だし、みんなも安心して食べられるから」とのこと。

そんな中、我が家も昨晩は遅くまで家中あま～い匂いでいっぱいだったのですが、20代以下では約6割が「手作り派」らしいのですが、40代以上になると約9割が「購入派」に変わるのだそうです。若い人ほど、根強い友チョコ文化や手作りのプロセスを楽しむ傾向が強いのかもしれませんね。

大人になるにつれて「手作りチョコ」を贈られる機会はグッと減りますが、そもそも「手作りチョコはNG」という人も。昨年、人気ドラマの作中で「握ったおにぎりを職場の後輩にあげる行為」がパワハラだと扱われ「おにぎりハラスメント=おにハラ」というワードも話題になったほどです。こんな時代には手作りチョコもハラスメントになったりするのでしょうか。

バレンタインチョコは買う派ですか？それとも手作り派ですか？私はあまりものをもらう派です。

Valentine’s season has arrived once again. These days, more people might enjoy chocolate as a way to express gratitude to family and friends, or as a treat for themselves, rather than solely to convey feelings to someone they like. Valentine’s Day has evolved from a day for confessions to a day for expressing appreciation or simply enjoying sweets.

So, what’s the current Valentine’s Day situation among junior high and high school students? Not too long ago, it was standard practice to make homemade friend chocolates and distribute them to the entire class. Stories were common about students taking over the kitchen the night before, melting huge amounts of chocolate, meticulously wrapping each piece, and ending up sleep-deprived…

In fact, a high school sophomore I know baked brownies for all 30 students in her class during her freshman year. But on the day itself, concerns like “Are there nuts in these?” and “Is it allergy-safe?” made things awkward for both the giver and the receivers. She even heard some say, “Homemade stuff makes me a bit uneasy.” So the next year, she switched to individually wrapped store-bought chocolates. “It’s less stressful, and everyone can eat them without worry,” she explained.

Meanwhile, my house was filled with a sweet aroma late into the night last night. Apparently, about 60% of people under 20 are “homemade chocolate fans,” but this shifts to about 90% of those in their 40s and older being “store-bought fans.” Younger people might have a stronger, more enduring “friend chocolate” culture and a greater tendency to enjoy the handmade process.

As we grow older, opportunities to receive handmade chocolates dwindle significantly. Some even consider handmade chocolates unacceptable. Last year, a popular drama depicted giving a hand-made rice ball to a junior colleague as workplace harassment, sparking the buzzword “onigiri harassment” (onihara). Could handmade chocolates become a form of harassment in such times?

Are you a store-bought Valentine’s chocolate person? Or a homemade person? I’m more of a “receiving leftovers” person.

もうすぐバレンタインデーですね！。

ここ名古屋ではチョコの祭典「アムールドショコラ」が今年も開催されており大盛況のようです。連日お目当てのチョコを求めて開店前のデパートに長蛇の列が発生するのですが、それも毎年恒例の風景となりつつあります。

ところがこのところのカカオ価格の高騰しているようでして、チョコレートも驚くような値段になっているようです。2024年の「カカオショック」と呼ばれる歴史的ピークから（2025年後半にはいったん落ち着きを見せ、2026年初頭には下落傾向に転じていますが）高値水準は続いているようで、チョコレートの価格がすぐに元に戻る見込みは薄いようであります。

原因は西アフリカでのカカオの不作（気候変動や病害、農場での違法な金採掘など）でなどのようですが、現在は増産期待で価格が下がっているものの、円安や物流コスト、人件費高騰が加わり、当面は高止まりが続くとみられている様子で、いよいよチョコレートも高級品となり、自分のような庶民の口にはおいそれと口に入らなくなってくるのでしょうか…。

とはいえ、価格高騰といえど一年に一度くらいちょっと高級なチョコを食べてみたいので、遅ればせながら駆け込みでアムールドショコラへ足を運ぶか、今悩んでいるのですが、おそらく足を運ぶと知らぬ間に買い込んでる気もしたり、あのチョコの闘いに突っ込んでいきたい気もしたりとモヤモヤした時間を過ごしているところであります。

それほど人を惑わずチョコレートの存在に今さらながら惑わされています。

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!

Here in Nagoya, the chocolate festival “Amour de Chocolat” is being held again this year and seems to be a huge success. Every day, long lines form outside department stores before opening as people queue up for their desired chocolates—a scene that’s becoming an annual tradition.

However, cocoa prices have been soaring lately, and chocolate prices have reached astonishing levels. While prices showed signs of stabilizing in late 2025 and began a downward trend in early 2026 after reaching a historic peak dubbed the “Cocoa Shock” in 2024, they remain at high levels. It seems unlikely chocolate prices will return to normal anytime soon.

The cause appears to be poor cocoa harvests in West Africa (due to climate change, disease, illegal gold mining on farms, etc.). While prices are currently falling on expectations of increased production, the weak yen, logistics costs, and rising labor costs are adding pressure. It seems prices will remain high for the foreseeable future. Is chocolate finally becoming a luxury item, no longer easily accessible to ordinary folks like me…?

That said, even with the price hike, I still want to indulge in a slightly more luxurious chocolate once a year. So, I’m currently debating whether to make a last-minute dash to Amour de Chocolat. But I suspect that if I go, I’ll end up buying more than I intended before I know it. Or maybe I just want to dive headfirst into that chocolate battle… I’m spending my time feeling rather conflicted.

It’s surprising how much chocolate can still confuse people, even now.

立春が過ぎほんの少し日差しが柔らかく温かくなったような印象を受けます。が、まだまだ印象でしょうか、朝晩は頬にあたる風はひんやりとしておりますね。

立春を過ぎますと、毎年こころなしか頭の片隅に何やら引っかかるものがございます。

…そう、お雛様をいつ飾ろうか問題。

はい、気忙しさを言い訳にして、まだ飾っておりません…。そうこうしているうちにひな祭りが近づき、最終的にはお雛さまを出そうかどうしようか、迷うことになるわけですが。
毎年出しているはずなのに、「いつから飾るんだっけ？」と考えてしまうのも、あるあるかもしれません。

雛人形は一般的に、「立春（2月4日頃）から桃の節句（3月3日）の1週間前くらいまで」に飾り終えておくのがよいと言われていますが、桃の節句は春を代表する節句であることから、「暦の上で春が始まる立春に飾るとよい」とも言われているようですので、飾る方はうっすらとしたプレッシャーを感じます。

とはいえ立春にこだわる必要はないので、「節分（2月2日）が終わったら雛人形を飾る」と覚えておくとわかりやすいかもしれませんね。ただお正月飾り同様、ひな祭り直前に慌ただしく出す「一夜飾り」は、あまり縁起がよくないとも言われていますのでご注意を。

我が家のひな人形は、決して立派なものではありません。顔立ちもどこか素朴で、色合いもわりと控えめ。それでも毎年出してみると、「ああ、今年もこの季節が来たな」と自然に思えてきます。

ひな人形は、もともと厄を引き受ける存在でした。紙や草で作った人形に災いを移し、川に流していた「流し雛」がその始まりです。江戸時代に入ると、雛遊びが庶民の間にも広がり、紙雛から立体的な人形へと発展していきました。こうして単なる玩具ではなく、鑑賞性の高い工芸品としてのひな人形が生み出されました。時代が進むにつれ、飾って楽しむものへと変わっていったひな人形は、ただの飾りではなく、長い時間をかけて形づくられてきたものだということがわかりますね。

そして、雛人形をしまう時期は、「桃の節句（3月3日）が終わった後のなるべく早い時期」が望ましいと言われていますが、これがまた、まあまあプレッシャーがかかります。

その理由は単に、桃の節句をお祝いしたら、雛人形のその年の役目が終わるということなのですが、「雛人形をしまうのが遅くなると、婚期が遅れる」という言い伝えもあり、この強迫観念が世の娘を持つ親御さんには付きまとうのではないでしょうか。

迷信と知りつつも、雛人形は湿気に弱かったり、いつまでも出しておくのはどうもだらしないなどといったメッセージでもあるようですので、早くしまった方がよいに決まっていますね。それよりも私が古い人間だからか、「婚期が遅れる」ほうに変なバイアスがかかり、プレッシャーとして毎年私を襲ってまいります(笑)。

今年こそは余裕をもって飾ります…たぶん。

After the start of spring, I get the impression the sunlight has softened and warmed just a little. But perhaps it’s still just an impression—the breeze on my cheeks in the mornings and evenings still feels quite chilly.

Every year after the start of spring, something seems to linger in the back of my mind.

…Yes, the question of when to display the Hina dolls.

Yes, using busyness as an excuse, I still haven’t put them out… Before I know it, Hina Matsuri approaches, and I end up agonizing over whether to display the dolls or not.
Even though I should be putting them out every year, wondering “When do I start displaying them again?” might be a common experience.

It’s generally said that hina dolls should be displayed from around Risshun (the start of spring, around February 4th) until about a week before the Peach Festival (March 3rd). However, since the Peach Festival is a festival representing spring, it’s also said that “displaying them on Risshun, when spring officially begins on the calendar, is good.” This creates a faint sense of pressure for those putting them out.

That said, you don’t need to be strict about Risshun. Remembering to “display the dolls after Setsubun (February 2nd)” might be easier. However, just like New Year’s decorations, rushing to put them out right before the festival – known as “one-night display” – is said to be considered bad luck, so be mindful.

Our family’s hina dolls are certainly nothing grand. Their features are somewhat simple, and their colors are fairly subdued. Yet, every year when I bring them out, I naturally think, “Ah, this season has come again.”

Originally, hina dolls served as entities to absorb misfortune. Their origins lie in “nagashi-bina” (floating dolls), where paper or straw dolls were used to transfer calamities before being floated down rivers. By the Edo period, the custom of playing with dolls spread among the common people, evolving from paper dolls into three-dimensional figures. Thus, hina dolls were created not merely as toys, but as highly decorative craft items. As time passed, hina dolls transformed into objects displayed for enjoyment. They are not just decorations, but something shaped over a long period of time.

And while it’s said that the best time to put away the hina dolls is “as soon as possible after the Girls’ Festival (March 3rd) ends,” this also comes with a fair amount of pressure.

The reason is simply that once the Girls’ Festival is celebrated, the dolls’ role for that year is complete. However, there’s also a superstition that “storing the dolls too late delays marriage,” and this compulsion likely haunts parents with daughters everywhere.

Even knowing it’s superstition, it also seems to carry messages like the dolls being vulnerable to humidity or that leaving them out forever looks sloppy, so it’s definitely better to put them away early. But maybe because I’m old-fashioned, I get weirdly biased toward the “delayed marriage” part, and that pressure hits me every year (laugh).

This year, I’ll definitely display them with plenty of time to spare… probably.

ここ名古屋は名古屋も朝からいきなりの雪でして、車の前が雪でなにも見えなくなるような瞬間もありました。連日豪雪の地域のニュースを目にしますと、どうってことのない雪だとは思うのですが、慣れていないこともあり、急に雪が降り出し、前が見えなくなるのはさすがに怖かったですね。

先日訪れた城崎温泉では、電車の車窓からきれいだな…なんて流暢なことを呟いていたのですが、ひとたび雪の中で運転したり暮らしたりするとなると、危なかったり怖かったりすることもあり、これは表裏一体の存在なのだな…と、身をもって思った今朝の通勤でありました。

さてさて、話題を変えていきましょうか。

先日古い器を買取いたしまして。瀬戸焼染付小皿なのですが

これまでの汚れなどは致し方ありませんので、本日はこの器たちの次なるフェーズにむけて、綺麗にしていきたいと思います。

完全に汚れや黄ばみを落とし切るのは難しいかもしれませんが、キッチンハイターなどの漂白剤を利用することで、ある程度汚れや黄ばみが落ち、元の状態を取り戻せます。（漂白剤を利用するときは、漂白剤の使用方法に説明されている時間を守るように注意してください。）

その後、柔らかいスポンジでお汚れた部分を手入れし、しっかりと洗い流し、とても綺麗になりました。

これらの古い器はご存知かと思いますが、日常で使われる際もいくつか気を付けなければなりません。

素材や製造製法が現代のものとは異なるため、普段使いの食器として使用になる際には、加熱や洗浄時の取扱いに注意が必要です。電子レンジは使用によって破損する危険があり避けた方が無難でして、また、洗浄の場合は食洗機は使用によって目にはみえにくいほどの細かな傷がついたり、熱や水圧で破損の可能性があります。こちらも避け、柔らかいスポンジで手洗い、ふき取りがよろしいかと思います。

というわけで、綺麗になりました器たち、次なるフェーズでも愛されるよう整えましたので、次なる持ち主様、お待ちしております。

Here in Nagoya, we got hit with sudden snow this morning, and there were moments when the car’s windshield was completely obscured by snow. Seeing the news about areas hit by heavy snowfall day after day, I know this isn’t anything major, but being unaccustomed to it, having the snow start suddenly and losing visibility was definitely scary.

Just the other day at Kinosaki Onsen, I was murmuring something poetic like, “How beautiful…” from the train window. But once you actually drive or live in the snow, it can be dangerous and frightening. This morning’s commute really drove home how snow is a double-edged sword.

Well then, let’s change the subject.

The other day, I purchased some old pottery. It’s a small Seto-yaki underglaze-painted dish. (When using bleach, be sure to follow the usage instructions regarding soaking time.)

After that, I gently scrubbed the stained areas with a soft sponge, rinsed thoroughly, and they came out beautifully clean.

As you may know, these older pieces require some care when used daily.

Since their materials and manufacturing methods differ from modern items, care is needed during heating and washing when using them as everyday tableware. Microwave use risks damage and is best avoided. Additionally, dishwasher use may cause microscopic scratches invisible to the eye or lead to breakage from heat and water pressure. Hand washing with a soft sponge is recommended instead.

So, these beautifully cleaned pieces have been carefully prepared to be cherished in their next phase.
