今日、初めて当ブログをご覧いただく方は、はて？とお思いかと思いますが、本日は「酒井抱一」エピソード第２弾とさせていただきます。

江戸時代を代表するふたりの天才絵師・酒井抱一と葛飾北斎でありますが、同時代を共に江戸で過ごした二人が、重なった道を辿っていったのか否か、気になるところです。（スタッフ I だけでしょうが…笑）

江戸琳派の軽妙洒脱な武家絵師・酒井抱一（1761年生まれ）。

（日本美術がお好きな方ならご存じのことと思いますが、『江戸琳派』とは、１９世紀前期に江戸で花開いた絵画様式。桃山時代から江戸時代初期に京都で育まれた琳派を受け継ぎ、江戸風にアレンジしたことで大名から庶民まで幅広い人気を博したそうです。）

一方、森羅万象を描いた自称 ”画狂人” 葛飾北斎（1760年生まれ）。

同じ江戸の地にて芸術に人生をかけたという志は同じでも、そのスタイルはそれぞれだったことでしょう。

２０代までは奔放なライフスタイルで順風満帆だった抱一ですが、寛政２年（1790年）兄の忠以がなくなるとその暮らしも一変したようです。

”甥の忠道（ただひろ）が家督を継ぐことになった酒井家と距離を置き、転居を繰り返して独自の道を模索。３７歳で出家し、京都へ向かうなどの迷走が続く。抱一は、この３０代の模索の時期に酒井家がかつて庇護していた京都の絵師・尾形光琳が残した作品に巡り合い、その強い影響を受けて自ら絵筆をとるようになった。”

こんな心奪われる体験、これも神さまが天才に授けたひとつの道すじでしょうか。

（尾形光琳の作品に影響を受けたとする芸術家は他にも抱一の弟子・鈴木其一がいます。後に引き継がれていくわけですが、こういう見聞によって、今度は尾形光琳にフューチャーしてみたくなります）

そして４０歳になったころ、光琳風の絵画様式（琳派）の名手として知られるようになるのです。

一方、同じ年ごろの北斎はというと、狂歌絵本や黄表紙（洒落・滑稽・風刺をおりまぜた江戸時代の絵本・マンガのこと）などの挿絵のほか、美人画や役者絵、肉筆画などに熱心に取り組んでいたものの、その生活は相変わらず苦しかったと伝えられています。

それに比して抱一は、約100年前に尾形光琳が極めた絵画様式を、作品を見て学びとる”私淑” という形で受け継いでいくことを決意。

伝統的なやまと絵をもとにした雅で装飾豊かな琳派的表現と、俳諧などの江戸文化の粋で洒脱、瀟洒な美意識などを融合した「江戸琳派」を確立していったとのことです。

文化１２年（1815年）５５歳の頃には、光琳百年忌にあたって光琳遺墨展を開催。

それと同時に『光琳百図』前編を刊行したことによって、光琳の作風への思慕をより一層強めていったそうです。

さらに抱一は、１１代将軍徳川家斉の父である一橋治済から注文を受け、代表作『夏秋草図屏風』を光琳作『風神雷神図屏風』の裏側に描くことになりました。

長年の思いが実り、実現に至ったという傑作誕生のわけだったのですね。

待望の機会を得た抱一は、地色に銀を用い、俳諧の知識を加え、雷神の裏に雨に濡れた夏草、風神の裏には風になびく秋草を配し、自ら修練してきた光琳よりもリアルな画風で描き上げたといいます。

絵の意味までそろえたというこの最高傑作、どこまでも粋、そして静かだけども情熱が伝わります。

その後、抱一は６８歳で死去。

そのころの北斎の仕事は読本の挿絵や肉筆美人画、絵手本『北斎漫画』などで、浮世絵の第一人者とは言い難い状態だったようです。

想像するより遅咲きで苦労人だったのですね。

我が道を驀進した天才的浮世絵師の側面を知ることができました。

北斎が浮世絵師のトップに上りつめたのは抱一の没後、７０歳を過ぎてからのことということで、抱一さん、１歳先輩の全盛期は見られなかったのですね。残念…

しかしふたりは多少の交流があったり、ウワサを聞いたり、お互いに意識していたものがあったんじゃないかと勝手に想像します。

現代では天才と称される人たちも常に順調だったわけではない…地道に努力しないとな、また先人たちに教えていただきました。

私よく思いますが、この何世代も超えた時代で自分たちの作品や人物像がまだまだ、いやむしろスポットを浴びているとはご本人たちは思いもしなかったでしょう。

Until his twenties, Hoitsu had a free-spirited lifestyle and sailed smoothly, but in 1790, when his brother’s loyalty disappeared, his life seemed to change completely.

“My nephew Tadahiro kept a distance from the Sakai clan, who was to succeed the family, and repeatedly moved to find his own way. He left home at the age of 37 and continued to stray, such as heading to Kyoto. During this period of groping for his thirties, he came across a work left by the Kyoto painter Korin Ogata, who was once protected by the Sakai family, and was strongly influenced by it, and began to take his own paintings. ”

Such a fascinating experience, is this also one of the paths that God has given to geniuses?

At the age of 40, he became known as a master of Korin-style painting style (Rinpa).

On the other hand, Hokusai around the same year is used for illustrations such as Kyoka picture books and Kibyoshi (picture books and manga from the Edo period that mix fashion, humor, and satire), as well as bijin-ga, actors’ drawings, and hand-drawn drawings. Although he worked diligently, it is reported that his life was still difficult.

On the other hand, Hoitsu decided to inherit the painting style that Korin Ogata mastered about 100 years ago in the form of “private” to learn by seeing his work.

He said that he established the “Edo Rinpa”, which is a fusion of elegant and decorative Rinpa expression based on traditional Yamato-e, and stylish and elegant aesthetics with the essence of Edo culture such as haiku. is.

At the age of 55 in the 12th year of Bunka (1815), he held the Korin Ink Exhibition on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Korin.

At the same time, by publishing the first part of “Korin Hyakuzu”, he seems to have further strengthened his longing for Korin’s style.

In addition, Hoitsu received an order from Harusada Hitotsubashi, the father of the 11th Shogun Tokugawa Ienari, and decided to draw his masterpiece “Flowering Plants of Summer and Autumn” on the back of Korin’s “Fujin and Raijinzu”.

It was the birth of a masterpiece that was realized after many years of thought.

Having the long-awaited opportunity, Hoitsu used silver for the ground color, added knowledge of haiku, arranged rain-wet summer grass behind the thunder god, and autumn grass fluttering in the wind behind the wind god, and practiced himself. It is said that he drew it in a more realistic style than Takorin.

This masterpiece, which has the meaning of the picture, is forever stylish and quiet but conveys passion.

After that, Hoitsu died at the age of 68.

At that time, Hokusai’s work was illustrations for reading books, beautiful hand-drawn paintings, and the picture model “Hokusai Manga”, and it seems that he was in a state where it was hard to say that he was a leading figure in ukiyo-e.

He was a hard worker because he bloomed later than I imagined.

I was able to learn about the side of a genius ukiyo-e artist who went on my way.

Hokusai climbed to the top of the ukiyo-e artist after Hoitsu’s death, after he was 70 years old, so you didn’t see the heyday of Hoitsu-san and his one-year-old senior. Sorry …

However, I imagine that the two of them had some interaction, heard rumors, and had something that they were aware of each other.

もうねぇ、そろそろ自粛に疲れてきましたので思い切って旅に出かけてきましたよ、自宅より車で3分の旅へ。失礼致しました。旅ではありません、あくまでも生活圏内での買い物の途中の立ち寄りです。と、いうわけで急いで駆け抜けて、ここ鳴海宿有松～鳴海界隈のご紹介をいたします。

古美術風光舎名古屋店のあります愛知県には、旧東海道が通っていたこともあり、歴史を感じられるスポットが所々あります。

ですが、旧東海道の宿場町の面影が残っているのは、ここ有松～鳴海近辺だけだそうです。有松の町並みは2016年7月、国の重要伝統的建造物群保存地区にも選定されており、町全体が景観を損なわないように歴史環境に配慮した建物になっております。よって、有松～鳴海近辺は現在も街道の趣きを残し、ここは大都市名古屋の中にあって今も街道情緒が色濃く残されているタイムスリップゾーンといったところでしょうか。なんといっても名古屋駅から名鉄名古屋本線で20分で降りたってすぐに行けるとあって、季節の良い時期にはウォーキング旅をしている方も多く見受けられます。

絞りでも有名な鳴海、有松界隈。通り沿いには、今も絞りをお店が立ち並び、HNK大河ドラマ(たしか、黒田官兵衛の岡田准一さん)の衣装も手掛けた有名な絞商さんも。絞りについては、次回のブログに詳しく掲載いたしますね。

もちろん、歌川広重の東海道五十三次にも鳴海宿の版画が残っています。東海道は、当時の交通の要。ここを通って、江戸や伊勢や熱田や京など様々な人が行きかって賑やかだったのでしょう、当時の方が軒先で絞りを手に取っている姿が。旅の思い出にお土産に名産品を買ったりしてたのでしょうか。版画の中の人々も心なしか、嬉しそうな表情であるような気がしますが。「東海道中膝栗毛」では、店の主人との滑稽なやりとりの末、弥次さんが手ぬぐいを一枚分買った場面で登場する所だそうです。

そうそう、この上の鳴海宿図にもあるように、確かに小高い山が現在もありますね。今は、小学校が建てられています。歴史検証とともに、ひとりブラタモリもやっているので、結構忙しい。

また、緩やかに曲がった東海道約800メートル区間に沿って、広い間口を持つ紋商の主屋敷や門・塀が数多く見られ、比較的ゆったりとした街並みが継承されています。並びには江戸後期から昭和初期までの様々な時代の建物が見られますが、東海道に面する主屋は木造2階建て、切妻屋根、桟瓦葺き、平入りを基本としているので、町並みが統一されている感が。ここ有松を過ぎれば、間もなく鳴海宿。鳴海近辺よりも開発されなかったせいか、そのおかげでしょうか、有松近辺に古い屋敷が多く残っています。有松絞の暖簾が春のさわやかな風にさやさやと揺れていているのがとても印象的でした。

忙しくレポートいたしましたが、広重の版画と現在の道を見比べていると、だんだん傘を被ってこのまま京へ向かっている旅女の気分になってきました。京までは、歩きませんが。

In July 2016, the townscape of Arimatsu was selected as a nationally severely ill traditional buildings preservation district, and the entire town is a building that takes the historical environment into consideration so as not to spoil the landscape. Therefore, the area around Arimatsu-Narumi still retains the taste of the highway, and this is a time-slip zone in the big city of Nagoya, where the atmosphere of the highway still remains. After all, it takes 20 minutes to get off from Nagoya Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Line, and you can go there immediately, so many people are taking a walking trip during the good season.

Narumi, Arimatsu area, which is also famous for aperture. Shops are still lined up along the street, and there is also a famous squeezer who also worked on costumes for the HNK Taiga drama (Mr. Junichi Okada of Kuroda Kanbei). I will post more about the aperture in the next blog.

毎年４月に、茶道のお稽古場に掛かる御軸に、

孟浩然の『春暁』の一節が書かれたものがございます。

「春眠不覚暁」

尾張徳川に縁のある香道の御流派・志野流のお家元の御作。

滋味溢れる筆致を眺めるたびに、

またこの季節が巡ってきたのだなぁと感慨深いです。
 

 

春眠不覚暁　処処聞啼鳥

夜来風雨声　花落知多少

春の暁は気候も暖かく、心地よい眠りに夜が明けたのも知らず寝すごしてしまったが、

ふと眼をさませばあちこちで小鳥の啼く声がきこえる。
そういえば、昨夜は風雨の音がはげしかった。

花はどれほど散ってしまっただろうか。

(日本では中学校の国語で学習するので知らない人はいないかも。

皆様もきっと春先の寝坊のいいわけに使ったりしましたよね？)

作者の孟浩然は盛唐の詩人（689-740）湖北省襄陽の人。

科挙の試験に失敗し、一時は山に隠棲してましたが、

４０歳の時、長安に出て詩才を認められました。

王維の紹介で皇帝にも会見ができる身分になったのですが、

後に詩句の一部が玄宗の不快を誘い追放されてしまい、

終生政府役人には就けず、不遇な一生を送り故郷で没したのでした。

平淡清雅の作風で五言律詩を得意とし、

自然詩人として王維と並び称せられます。享年５２歳。

 
スタッフＴは、この唐詩を見ると

中国語で暗唱する声がどこからともなく聴こえてくるんです。

暗唱も出来ます。ピンイン(声調)は怪しいですが．．．

遼寧省瀋陽に一か月ほど滞在したことがあって、

その頃よく唐詩を聞いていたんですね。

若いころに覚えたことって結構忘れないものですよね。

本当に身体に沁み込むように覚えちゃいますね。

当時、園児だった娘なんて、

一ヵ月だけ通った中国の幼稚園のお友だちに、

「一様的！Yīyàng de!」（それ、いっしょだね！）なんて

楽しそうに声掛けていてビックリでした！

ああ、あの頃に戻りたい．．．

昔はこの詩の通り、寝ても寝ても本当に眠くて眠くて．．．

おや、最近はそんなことないですね。

かえって早い時間にフッと目が覚めたりして。

年齢が上がったせいでしょうか．．．

いえいえ、十分に睡眠時間が取れているからでしょうね。

きっと、そうですよね。

そういうことにしておこう～っと。

名古屋は晴天が続き、春の暖かさが戻るようですね。

突然ですが、皆さまは「酒井抱一」と聞いて思い浮かぶ絵画がありますでしょうか。

先日、抱一の『絵手鑑（えてかがみ）』という作品を見て驚きました。

１９世紀・江戸時代に描かれた着色墨画ですが、それがとってもモダンなのです。

構図やデザインが洗練されていて、はっきりとした色使いが勝手に私好み！と。

最高傑作と称される『夏秋草図屏風』は重要文化財となっており、思い浮かぶ方もいらっしゃるでしょう。

しかし個人的に酒井抱一、その人物像はよく知りませんでしたので、本日は深掘りを…

酒井抱一は、江戸時代の絵画を語る上で忘れてはならない絵師のひとりです。

同時代のもう一人の天才絵師と言えば、浮世絵の大家・葛飾北斎でありますが、実はこのふたりの年齢は一つ違い、同じ江戸で育っているのですね。

同じ時の空気を吸って、同じ絵師という道を極めていった_ちょっとおもしろ芸術小話。

これもご縁でしょうか。（ちなみに抱一が１歳若いです）

それぞれの画業を突き詰めていく中で、交流はあったのかなぁと単純に思ってしまいました。

そんなふたりを比べてみると…

抱一は武家のエリート_姫路城主酒井雅楽頭家（うたのかみけ）の次男として生まれながら、３７歳で出家します。

この生まれた環境からすると、のちに絵師になることなど当時は誰も想像できなかったことでしょう。

抱一は多趣味で大名茶人として知られた兄・酒井只以の影響で様々な文化に親しみ、２０代まで俳諧や書画、狂歌、浮世絵、能、茶の湯などを嗜む奔放な暮らしを続けていたとのこと。

さすが名門武家の出ですね、これはさぞ楽しかったことでしょう。

書画は武士のたしなみとされてはいたものの、抱一は歌川豊春の指導を受け、素人離れした作品を残しているようです。

そして肉筆の浮世絵美人画も数多く描いていたとか。

このように若い時代に文化人としての素養を身につけ、狂歌師で文筆家としても活躍していた大田南畝などとも交友関係を築いていったとのことですが、ん～想像するに華やかだったことと思います。

一方、対する北斎は幼いころから絵を描くことに夢中。

おじいちゃん姿しかあまり披露されていない北斎の幼少期を想像して…

幼名・時太郎だったころのお絵描き姿、可愛らしかったでしょうね。

叔父である幕府御用の鏡師・中島伊勢の養子となるものの家督は継がず、１４～１５歳の頃に版木の彫師となり、１９歳の頃に勝川春章に入門。

やがて浮世絵師として生計を立てるようになるそうです。

However, I personally didn’t know much about Sakai Hoitsu, so I’m going to dig deeper today …

Sakai Hoitsu is one of the painters who must not forget when talking about paintings in the Edo period.

Speaking of another genius painter of the same era, he is the master of ukiyo-e, Katsushika Hokusai, but in reality, the two are of different ages and are raised in the same Edo period.

I breathed in the air at the same time and went on to become the same artist.

Is this also a connection? (By the way, Hoitsu is one year younger)

As I pursued each painting industry, I simply wondered if there was any interaction.

Comparing those two …

Hoitsu was born as the second son of the Sakai clan, the elite of the samurai family, the lord of Himeji Castle, and left home at the age of 37.

Given this environment in which he was born, no one could have imagined that he would later become a painter.

Hoitsu became familiar with various cultures under the influence of his older brother, Sakai Tadazane, who was known as a famous tea ceremony with many hobbies, and lived a free-spirited life until his twenties, enjoying haiku, calligraphy, kyoka, ukiyo-e, Noh, and tea ceremony. He said he was continuing.

As expected from the prestigious samurai family, this must have been fun.

Although the calligraphy was considered to be a samurai’s grace, Hoitsu seems to have left a work that is far from being an amateur under the guidance of Utagawa Toyoharu.

And he also drew a lot of hand-painted ukiyo-e beauty paintings.

In this way, he acquired a background as a cultural person when he was young, and made friends with Ota Nanpo, who was also active as a kyoka writer and writer. I will do it. Lol

On the other hand, Hokusai has been crazy about drawing since he was a child.

Imagine Hokusai’s childhood, when only his grandpa was shown .

He must have been cute when he was a childhood name, Tokitaro.

Although he was adopted by his uncle, Ise Nakajima, a mirror artist for the shogunate, he did not succeed to the family, became a woodblock tattooist when he was 14 to 15 years old, and entered Katsukawa Shunsho when he was 19 years old.

今朝は晴れたかと思いきや、

またパラパラと雨の降る覚王山界隈です。
先日の茶道のお稽古で、

「柳緑花紅」～柳(やなぎ)は緑(みどり)花(はな)は紅(くれない)～

と書かれた軸がお床に掛かっておりました。

宋時代の詩人、蘇東坡（そとうば）の詠じた詩です。

本来はもう一言「真面目」という言葉が添えられています。
「柳緑　花紅　真面目（やなぎはみどり　はなはくれない　しんめんもく）」

まじめか～！じゃなくて、「しんめんもく」って読むんですね。

目の前にある春の景色を目の当たりにして

「柳は緑色で、花は紅に染まり、これが本来のありのままの姿そのままだ」と詠嘆したのです。

柳が新緑の枝を垂らし、花が紅に咲き誇っています。

この光景は何千年と繰り返されてきた春の景色です。ただそれだけです。

ただそれだけなのに、敢えて「真面目（しんめんもく）」と感動したのです。

柳は柳として、何も隠すことなく堂々と現し、花も花として、その姿を示しています。

柳は柳、花は花、そこには価値の優劣はなく、あるのは真実だけです。

穏やかに説いてくださる茶道の先生のお言葉に、

「ああ、そのままの自分を受け入れていけばよいのだ．．．」

とスッと救われた気持ちになったものです。

ありのままを、ありのままに受け取り、

そこに真実を観ることが「禅」の心そのものです。

自然は何も隠さず堂々と私たちの前にその姿を現しています。

ありのままが真実です。

余計な価値判断を捨て去り、

心の目を見開いて、歩んでいきたいものです。

どんなものにも本質的な尊さがあることを教えてくれているのですが

周りの人・ものについても、その尊いそのままの本質的な姿を正しく見ることができているか＿

ということについても考えさせられる禅語です。

私事で恐縮ですが、家に愚息が一人おりまして、

彼が家に居る時はゲームをしている姿しか見たことがありません。

一応、一日にゲームをやっていいという時間は決めてあったはずなんですけれどね．．．

明日の準備とか宿題とか、やることやってからって言ってあるはずなんですけどね．．．

彼なりに自分がやるべきことはやっているんでしょうか？

どうもそうらしいですね．．．

自分の衣類の洗濯やお風呂掃除はやってくれてますけどね．．．

もうあるがまま受け止めるしかないんでしょうかね？

皆さまこんにちは。本日名古屋では、静かに雨が降っております。
先日から静かな雨の日が続き、春霖という言葉が思い起こされます。

春の雨をあらわす言葉はこの言葉以外にもたくさんあります。
春時雨や、花散らしの雨、催花雨など、
ただ単に「雨」と表現するのではなく、情景が浮かび上がってくるような美しい言葉がたくさんありますよね。

春の雨を表す言葉ですら、こんなに多様なので、雨を表す言葉はさぞたくさんあるのだろうと思い、調べてみたところ……

一説にはなんと、400語以上もあると言われているそうです。

その中から、いくつか紹介させてください。

まず、催涙雨。初めて聞く言葉だったのですが、七夕に降る雨のことを指すと聞き、納得しました。織姫と彦星が、会えなかったことを嘆き、流した涙だと言われています。七夕の日が雨になると、少し寂しく思いますよね。今年の七夕は、晴れるでしょうか。

次に、鬼洗い。
鬼洗いなんて、どんだけ強い雨なんだろう……と思ったところ、
「鬼」は、大晦日に降る雨のことを指しているのであり、雨脚の強さが鬼ほど強い、という意味ではありませんでした笑
そのような雨を指す言葉としては、鬼雨（きう）という言葉がありました。
ゲリラ豪雨の和製語と言われているそうです。

雨は、その音を表すオノマトペもたくさんありますよね。
ぽつぽつや、しとしとなど日常生活の中でもよく使われています。

日本語は、他の言語と比べると音節が少なく、それを補うような形で、オノマトペは発展してきたのだそうです。

私個人の「よく使うオノマトペナンバー3」をここで発表させていただくと、

一位　ダラダラ（一日に一度は言いませんか？）
二位　ペコペコ
三位　ゴロゴロ（怠けている様子から、転がる様、目やお腹の調子を表すときなど、非常に汎用性が高いです）

となります。皆さまの「オノマトペナンバー3」もいつか聞いてみたいものです。

よく、日本独自の言葉として「木漏れ日」があげられます。
どの国にも、その国にしか存在しない特別な言葉というものがあると思います。どうか、これから先も絶やすことなく伝えていきたいものです。

今日は朝からパラパラと雨模様の名古屋です。
ただいまは少し小止みですが、夕方から本格的に降り出すとか．．．

そうそう、そうなのよ！似たような花だけど．．．どっち？

春も酣(たけなわ)の今が盛りと咲き誇る街路樹の花＿
これは花水木！
ありがとうございます。区別つきました！
白にピンクに鮮やかですね！
その前に咲いてたのはモクレン？あっちはコブシだったかな？
（これらは咲いてしまえば判りやすいです。コブシは思い切り花弁が開くので＾＾）

今年は取りやめとなってしまいましたが、
毎年一月の茶道の初釜では＿
床の間に飾られている赤い実は千両？万両？どっち？と話題になります。
スタッフＴ、これはもう間違えません！
 
千両箱を持っている人は上にかかげて見せびらかすので、上向きに実がつくのは千両。
万両箱を持っている人は重くて持ち上げられないので、下向きに実がつくのは万両。
どうですか？これならば直ぐ覚えられますよね！

そして、これから夏に向けては＿
菖蒲？アヤメ？杜若(カキツバタ)？でしょうか。
 
イヌタデ？水引草？
牡丹か芍薬か？
椿？山茶花？
ほんとうに思いつくだけでも、似たようで違う植物って、
まだまだ沢山ありますね。
 
着物や器の文様は、敢えて何の花か判らないように描かれていたりもします。
季節を問わず、いろんな場面で使えるようにとの配慮ですね。

ふと気がつけば、街道のツツジも満開近く見事に咲いています。

明るい日差しに照らされた新緑はきれいに輝いていたりと、ほのぼのした毎日に溶け込んだいつもの景色。

このような日常もあれば、日本にはあぁ美しい！と心から思える絶景も数多くあります。

国土の７割が森林に覆われたこの島国では、その土地土地で気候風土も違いますし、それぞれの特色があります。

風景はもちろん、風習や方言、人柄・人情なども違い、大変興味深いところであります。

その土地の持つ色彩や情緒など、ならではを感じられるられるので、スタッフ I は国内旅行も大好きです。

皆さまの日常の暮らしの中にも、古くから受け継がれてきた町並みや食文化、伝統工芸や芸術品など様々おありだと思います。

そこに溶け込む普段の心弾む好天の日や、郷愁そそられ何となく切なさも感じたりする夕景など…

何気ないこともなんだかいいですよね。

それから日本各地にいつかある世界遺産。

そのひとつ、３年近く前「長崎と天草地方の潜伏キリシタン関連遺産」が世界文化遺産に登録されています。

訪れた人は格別の印象を持つと言う五島列島。

旧石器時代には早くも人が住み着いていたと言われています。

歴史深い五島の島々…海の向こうからやってきたキリスト教が禁じられていた時代に、その信仰を守ろうとした人々が移り住んだことは、ご存じの方も多いことでしょう。

潜伏キリシタンが密かに守り伝えてきた信仰の歴史を伝える教会群。

この説明をつらつら書きながらも、私まだ五島まで足を運んだことはありません（泣）

長崎市の大浦天主堂を訪れたときに感じた、とても厳か、神聖な空間とやはりにているのかなと思っていますが…

いい意味で独特な雰囲気が印象的で、その時の青天とのコンビがまた素敵だったなと記憶しています。

世界遺産の構成資産「頭ヶ島の集落」に立つ『頭ヶ島天主堂』はキリスト教解禁後に信徒の手で完成されたとのこと。

”頭ヶ島は上五島の中心である十字架型をした中通島の東にあり、今は橋でつながっているが、昔は無人島であった。そこにキリスト教信徒が移り住んだ理由は、農業に適した平地や港の近くの漁村にはすでに仏教徒が住んでいたから。信徒は山間部や海沿いの僻地に潜伏するほかなかった。

厳しい条件の頭ヶ島に信徒が住み始め、山裾の急斜面に教会の仮聖堂がつくられたのは、禁教令が解かれる前の明治３年（1870年）。その後、信徒たちが力を合わせ、自ら切り出した砂岩をひとつひとつ積み上げて、１０年の歳月をかけて完成した教会。”

ここで使われている砂岩は驚くほど大きく、かなりの重労働だったようで、１日に２，３個しか積み上げられなかったそうです。

厳しい弾圧に耐え、長い受難の時代を生き抜いたのちに建てられた教会のうちのひとつだったのですね。

エキゾチックでありながらも静寂に満ちていて、強く心に訴えかけるものがある_

こうした悲しい歴史が背景にあったことを知ると、厳粛さが増します。

画像で見ると建物の外観は重厚な石造り。（これは全国でも珍しいそうですね）

それに対し、内装は女子向き⁈な装飾がパステルカラーで施された優しい空間_

驚くほどこじんまりとした大きさ…これが信徒の数に見合った規模だそうです。

このように信仰の伝統を間近にできるのが五島列島の魅力でもあるとの記述も。

個人的には国内でもまだまだ未開の土地、ありそうです。

今は充実した旅ができるようにシミュレーションする時期でしょうか。

I wonder if it’s a very solemn and sacred space that I felt when I visited Oura Catholic Church in Nagasaki City …

In a good way, the unique atmosphere was impressive, and I remember that the combination with the blue sky at that time was also wonderful.

It is said that “Kashiragashima Catholic Church”, which stands in the world heritage constituent asset “Kashiragashima Village”, was completed by believers after the lifting of the ban on Christianity.

“Kashiragashima is located to the east of the cross-shaped Nakadori Island, which is the center of Kamigoto Island, and is now connected by a bridge, but it used to be an uninhabited island. Because Buddhists already lived on flatlands suitable for agriculture and fishing villages near the harbor, the believers had no choice but to hide in the mountains and remote areas by the sea.

Believers began to live on Kashiragashima Island under harsh conditions, and a temporary church shrine was built on the steep slope at the foot of the mountain in 1870, before the persecution of Christianity was lifted. After that, the believers joined forces and piled up the sandstones they cut out one by one, and the church was completed over 10 years. ”

The sandstone used here was surprisingly large and seemed to have been a lot of hard work, with only a few piled up a day.

みなさまこんにちは、スタッフYです。

桜の季節も終わり、街の花が気がついたらハナミズキになっていました。白なのか、ピンクなのか、薄緑なのかわからない曖昧さがなんともいえないですね。春の街並みの中にあるその柔らかい花の色が、いつも気持ちを和らげてくれますね。

それはそうと、先日、お隣さんとお話をしていたときのこと、庭に咲いていたお花を見て、

Y　「ハナミズキ咲いたんだね。」

お隣さん　「Yさんちはヤマボウシ？」

Y　「え？これってハナミ？ヤマボウシ？なにがちがうのかなぁ？」

2人して　「．．．．．．？」

とまぁ、こんな会話をして、お互い苦笑いしていました。

似て非なるものってけっこうあるもので、でも日々スルーしてしまうことも多く、ハナミズキとヤマボウシの違いとは？今日は調査します。

まず、決定的な違いはハナミズキはアメリカからきた外来種で、ヤマボウシは日本古来のものです。ハナミズキの別名「アメリカヤマボウシ」はアメリカ原産で日本の近縁種のヤマボウシに似ていることから付けられています。ヤマボウシとハナミズキは同じミズキ科で花の形なども似ています。

そして同じようにシンボルツリーや街路樹として使われる両者なので、基本的に大きな違いがなく、見分けが付きにくいのも納得ですよね。でも、じっくりとココに注目していると決定的な違いはわかります。

1．花びらの形

ヤマボウシとハナミズキを大きく分ける特徴の1つが「花びらの形」（正確には花の下につく葉の形）です。ヤマボウシの場合、花びらは全体的に尖り気味の形花です。しかしハナミズキの場合は花全体が丸くかつ、桜のように先端に切れ目があるのが特徴。ちなみに、どちらも花の枚数は4枚です。

２．開花時期が違う

ヤマボウシとハナミズキ同じ時期に咲いていそうですが、実は開花時期が少しだけ違います。ハナミズキの花期の方が早く、サクラが咲き終わる頃に花芽を沢山付けます。ハナミズキの開花時期は4月下旬～5月上旬です（地域や栽培場所によって多少違う）です。一方、その後の5月中頃から咲き始めるのがヤマボウシです。ヤマボウシの開花時期は5月下旬～6月下旬です。

３．葉が先か、花が先か

最後の見分けるポイントとして、ヤマボウシとハナミズキの大きな違いは「葉と花、どちらが早いか」です。ハナミズキは花を先に咲かせるのに対し、ヤマボウシはまず葉が芽吹いてから花の準備を始めます。そのためにハナミズキは葉が芽吹く前に花が咲き揃うので、全面に花が目立ちやすいという印象があります。一方、ヤマボウシは緑の葉の中に白や赤花（ピンク）を咲かせるので、そのコントラストが綺麗で魅力だとも言えます。花が目立つのをメインとするか、葉と花を一緒に楽しむのか・・・

また、ハナミズキ、ヤマボウシともに実をつけますが、果樹酒におススメで食べられるのはヤマボウシの方です。食べれるなんて知らなかったです。

因みに、ハナミズキの花言葉には、「返礼」、「私の想いを受けとめてください」、「永続性」、「華やかな恋」という意味があります。ハナミズキの花言葉「返礼」は、日本が愛する花の一つである桜をワシントンDCに贈り、その返礼として贈られたのがハナミズキであることに由来しています。はたまたヤマボウシの花言葉は、「友情」。ここは、少しちがうようですね。

ということで、先日のお隣さんのお宅に咲いてた花はハナミズキと判明いたしました。

やっと解明いたしましたが、私は毎年のごとく忘れて、ハナミズキ？ヤマボウシ？と首を傾げている自信があるので、「どちらにしても、好きな花だわ。」と、ここは誤魔化しておきます笑。

あ、とにもかくにも、さっそくお隣さんへ報告をせねば。

The cherry blossom season was over, and when I noticed the flowers in the city, I was dogwood. I can’t say the ambiguity of not knowing whether it’s white, pink, or light green. The soft flower colors in the spring cityscape always soothe your feelings.

Anyway, the other day, when I was talking to my neighbor, I saw the flowers in the garden.

Y “The dogwood has bloomed.”

Neighbor “Mr. Y is a Kousa dogwood?”

Y “What? Is this Hanami? Kousa dogwood? What’s the difference?”

Two people “…?”

Well, we had a conversation like this and laughed bitterly at each other.

There are quite a few things that are similar and different, but they often go through every day, so what is the difference between dogwood and dogwood? I will investigate today.

First of all, the decisive difference is that dogwood is an exotic species from the United States, and Kousa dogwood is an ancient Japanese species. Another name for dogwood, “American dogwood,” is derived from the fact that it is native to the United States and resembles a closely related species of dogwood in Japan. Kousa dogwood and dogwood belong to the same dogwood family and have similar flower shapes.

And since they are both used as symbol trees and roadside trees in the same way, it is understandable that there is basically no big difference and it is difficult to distinguish them. However, if you pay close attention to Coco, you can see the decisive difference.

1. 1. Petal shape

One of the characteristics that largely distinguishes Kousa dogwood and dogwood is the “petal shape” (to be exact, the shape of the leaves under the flower). In the case of Kousa dogwood, the petals are generally pointed shaped flowers. However, in the case of dogwood, the whole flower is round and has a cut at the tip like a cherry blossom. By the way, the number of flowers is 4 in both cases.

2. 2. Flowering time is different

Kousa dogwood and dogwood seem to bloom at the same time, but the flowering time is slightly different. The dogwood flowering season is earlier, and a lot of flower buds are attached when the cherry blossoms finish blooming. The flowering time of dogwood is from the end of April to the beginning of May (it varies slightly depending on the area and cultivation place). On the other hand, it is the Kousa dogwood that begins to bloom in the middle of May. The flowering time of Kousa dogwood is from the end of May to the end of June.

3. 3. Whether the leaves come first or the flowers come first

The last point to distinguish is the big difference between Kousa dogwood and dogwood, “Which is faster, leaf or flower?” Dogwood blooms first, while Kousa dogwood begins to prepare flowers after the leaves have sprouted. For this reason, dogwood flowers bloom before the leaves sprout, giving the impression that the flowers are easily noticeable on the entire surface. On the other hand, Kousa dogwood has white and red flowers (pink) in the green leaves, so it can be said that the contrast is beautiful and attractive. Do you mainly want the flowers to stand out, or enjoy the leaves and flowers together?

In addition, both dogwood and dogwood bear fruit, but it is the dogwood that is recommended for fruit tree liquor. I didn’t know I could eat it.

By the way, the dogwood flower language means “return,” “accept my thoughts,” “permanence,” and “glamorous love.” The dogwood flower language “return” comes from the fact that the cherry blossoms, one of the flowers that Japan loves, were given to Washington, DC, and the dogwood was given in return. The flower language of Kousa dogwood is “friendship.” It seems a little different here.

So, the flower that was blooming at my neighbor’s house the other day turned out to be dogwood.

I finally figured it out, but I forget it every year, dogwood? Kousa dogwood? I don’t feel like I’m tilting my head lol.
