先日、豊田市美術館に行ってきました。

今回見にいったのは「ボイス+パレルモ」展です。

実はこの展覧会を見に行くのは２回目になります。個人的に展覧会などは１回では足りないと感じることがあるので、時間があれば２回ほど見ます。（映画館でも同じ作品を何度も見てしまうタイプです…）

「ボイス+パレルモ」展はボイスが２０２２年に生誕１００年を迎えることを記念するために開かれた展覧会です。この展覧会、個人的には面白く画集も買ってしまいました。写真撮影が禁止だったので、このブログに写真を載せることはできませんが、少しこの展覧会の話をして面白さが伝わればなと思います。

 

正直言って、ヨーゼフ・ボイスの作品は一見難しく何が何なのか分かりません。置いてある作品をじっくりまじまじと見て楽しめるようなものではないと思います。鑑賞して楽しむというより、なぜその作品があるのか鑑賞者側が頭を使い考えるような作品です。

少し難しいので、わたしが特に面白いと思ったボイスの人柄がわかるような出来事を話しますね。

 

ボイスはデュッセルドルフ芸術アカデミーの教授でもありました。デュッセルドルフ芸術アカデミーは定員制です。しかし、ボイスは自分のクラスは入りたいものすべてに対して開かれるべきと考え、大学定員制のため入れなかった学生をすべて自分のクラスに受け入れました。もちろん大学側から許可は下りていません。

現代の日本の芸術大学で例えると、定員制限がだいたい２０人で受験希望者が２００人ほどです。その２００人を全員受け入れた状態ということになります。ある意味、芸術を行う権利は全員にあるということを形にしたという感じでしょうか…。

もちろん大学側がそのようなことを許可できるはずもなく、ボイスは教授職を解雇されてしまいました。

しかし、ボイスを解雇したことに対する学生の抗議が行われ裁判なども開かれ、結果教授職には戻れませんでしたが、かつての教室をそのまま利用することは許可されました。

 

この話をふまえてですが、ボイスは「社会彫刻」という概念を生み出しました。

社会を彫刻と捉えていました。彫刻や芸術の概念を社会にも拡張していたのです。

先程の大学の定員制の話もその一部です。ボイスの社会活動や政治活動は賛否両論ですが、その後の芸術のあり方に大きな影響を与えたことは間違いありません。

ボイス自身も２０世紀を代表する芸術家ですが、彼の講座や彼の授業を受けた生徒の中からも多くの注目すべき芸術家が現われました。この展覧会でボイスと一緒に作品が展示してあるパレルモもそのうちの一人です。

パレルモもボイスの教え子であり、ボイスはパレルモを自身にもっとも近い表現者だったと認めています。そんな２人の作品を同時に見ることができる展覧会です。

 

ちなみにコレクション展も見てきました。コレクション展は写真撮影が可能だったので、気に入った作品を１つ撮ってきました。

 

 

ヴォルフガング・ライプ「ミルクストーン」です。

一見ただの白い長方形ですが、これは白い大理石の表面に牛乳が一面を膜が張っています。

とてもシンプルで個人的には好きです。大理石の縁をよく見ると、しっかりと牛乳！！とてもドキドキしました。

The other day, I went to the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art.

This time I went to see the “Voice + Palermo” exhibition.

Actually, this is my second time to go to see this exhibition. Personally, I sometimes feel that one exhibition is not enough, so if I have time, I will watch it twice. (It’s the type that you see the same work many times in the movie theater …)

The “Voice + Palermo” exhibition was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Voice’s birth in 2022.

I personally bought an art book for this exhibition. I can’t post photos on this blog because photography was prohibited, but I hope I can tell you a little bit about this exhibition.

 

To be honest, Joseph Beuys’ work is seemingly difficult and I don’t know what it is. I don’t think it’s something that you can enjoy looking at the works that are placed. Rather than appreciating and enjoying it, it is a work that the viewer uses his or her head to think about why the work exists.

It’s a little difficult, so I’ll talk about an event that reveals the personality of the voice that I found particularly interesting.

 

Boyce was also a professor at the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts. The Düsseldorf Academy of Arts has a capacity. However, Boyce thought that his class should be open to everything he wanted to enter, and accepted all students who couldn’t enter because of the university capacity system. Of course, no permission has been given by the university.

If you compare it to a modern Japanese art university, the capacity limit is about 20 and the number of applicants for the exam is about 200. It means that all 200 people have been accepted. In a sense, it feels like everyone has the right to do art …

Of course, the university couldn’t allow such a thing, and Boyce was dismissed from his professorship.

However, students protested against the dismissal of Voice, and trials were held. As a result, he was not able to return to his professorship, but he was allowed to use the former classroom as it was.

 

Based on this story, Voice created the concept of “social sculpture.”

He saw society as a sculpture. He extended the concept of sculpture and art to society.

Part of that is the story of the university’s capacity system. Voice’s social and political activities are controversial, but there is no doubt that he has had a great influence on his subsequent artistic style.

Boyce himself is one of the leading artists of the 20th century, but many notable artists have emerged from his lectures and the students who took his lessons. Palermo, whose work is exhibited with Voice at this exhibition, is one of them.

Palermo was also a student of Voyce, and Bois admitted that Palermo was the closest artist to himself. This is an exhibition where you can see the works of these two people at the same time.

 

By the way, I also saw the collection exhibition. Since it was possible to take pictures at the collection exhibition, I took one of my favorite works.

 

Wolfgang Laib “Milk Stone”.

At first glance, it’s just a white rectangle, but it’s a white marble surface covered with milk.

It’s very simple and I personally like it. If you look closely at the edge of the marble, you can see that it’s milk! !! I was very excited.
