本日も暑いですね…。もうこのセリフさえも口にしたくないクーラーの中ばかりの生活、皆さまいかがお過ごしでしょうか。少々体がだるかったり、ついつい冷たいものばかり口にして胃腸の不調がでてきたりしていませんでしょうか。私もその一人です。

そろそろ夏の疲れがでてきたり、でもこれから本格的な夏休みを迎える予定あるという皆様のために、本日は少し違ったひんやりを探してみました。

ここ愛知県ですが、先日から名古屋市博物館にて

「水木しげる生誕100周年記念　水木しげるの妖怪 百鬼夜行展　～お化けたちはこうして生まれた～ 」

そんな夏にピッタリのこの展覧会もぜひ訪れたいのですが、そういえば妖怪で思い出しました。

昨年訪れた西尾市の岩瀬文庫を訪れた際に（確か夏だったような）ご当地妖怪なるものがいることを知りましてちょっと調べていたのですが、ここ愛知県にもご当地妖怪まあまあいるようです。

「磯天狗」（愛知県知多半島付近）

磯天狗（いそてんぐ）は、天狗という名前が付いていますが、河童（かっぱ）の仲間だと言われている妖怪。愛知県の知多半島に伝わる話では、暗い夜に漁をしていると大きな火の玉が2、3こ飛んできたそうでして、磯天狗のしわざだと思い、念仏をとなえていると火の玉はどこかへ飛んでいきましたが、とった魚は消えてしまったと伝えられております。

「ヤロカ水」（愛知県木曽三川付近）

ヤロカ水（やろかみず）は、江戸時代に尾張国 、美濃国 に現れた、「ヤロカヤロカ」と声を出す妖怪のようであります。今から2・300年前（江戸時代）雨が降り続き木曽川が増水。真夜中、川の上流で「ヤロカヤロカ」という声がしきりにするので、村人が「よこさばよこせ」と叫び続けました。すると川の水が急に増し、またたく間に村は水に飲み込まれてしまったという妖怪伝説。ちょっとリアル。

「二龍松」（愛知県豊田市付近）

とまぁ一部ですがご紹介いたしました。地域がどこかわかるだけで妖怪と共に伝えられるその伝説にどこかリアルを感じますね。肝心のルックスはいろいろ調べてみましたが、かわいらしく描かれたもの、おどろおどろしく描かれた古いものなど様々でしたが、真の姿を伺え知ることはできませんので、そこはおのおので想像してみることに致しましょう。

それにしてもご当地妖怪けっこう存在するようですので、夏休みの自由研究に困っているお友達はご当地妖怪と共に地図を覚えてみてもいいかもしれませんし、ご興味のございます方は水木しげる展や文献や地域などをこの夏、辿ってみてもよいかもですね。

それにしても、少々ひんやりしてきました。

It’s hot again today…. I don’t even want to say this anymore, how is everyone doing in the air conditioner? Are you feeling a little sluggish, or are you suffering from gastrointestinal problems due to all the cold food you eat? I am one of them.

For those of you who are getting tired of summer and are planning to have a full-fledged summer vacation, I have found something a little different today to cool you down.

Here in Aichi Prefecture, the Nagoya City Museum has been holding a “Shigeru Mizuki 100th Birthday Celebration” since the other day.

The exhibition, “Shigeru Mizuki’s One Hundred Ghosts and Nightly Ghosts: How Ghosts Were Born,” is being held at the Nagoya City Museum from the other day.

is being held at the Nagoya City Museum. It seems that yokai are gathering in Nagoya in the middle of summer, and many works based on yokai by Shigeru Mizuki (1922-2015), one of Japan’s most famous manga artists, are being presented. Isn’t this chilly lol.

This exhibition, planned on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki’s birth in 2022, seems to focus on the behind-the-scenes of his yokai creation for the first time among the many exhibitions of his work that have been held.

The exhibition will showcase Shigeru Mizuki’s valuable collection of yokai-related materials and manuscripts of his manga works, which have helped establish the culture of enjoying yokai in modern Japan, and will focus on his work in further enriching the yokai world established by his predecessors, while respecting its coolness. I am very interested in his achievements as well as his coolness.

I would love to visit this exhibition, which is perfect for summer, but the mention of yokai reminded me of something else.

When I visited the Iwase Bunko in Nishio City last year (in summer, I think), I learned about local yokai and did some research.

Isotengu (near Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture)

The “Isotengu” is a yokai that is said to be a member of the kappa (water imps) family, although it is named after a tengu. According to a legend from the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, while fishing on a dark night, two or three large fireballs flew into the air.

Yaroka Water (near Kisosangawa River, Aichi Prefecture)

Yarokamizu is a yokai that appeared in Owari and Mino provinces in the Edo period (1603-1868) and is said to have emitted a voice saying “yaroka yaroka. Two or three hundred years ago (during the Edo period), the Kiso River was swollen due to continuous rain. In the middle of the night, a voice kept calling “Yarokayaroka” upstream, and the villagers kept shouting, “Give it to us! The water suddenly rose, and in no time the village was swallowed up by the water.

Jiryomatsu (near Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture)

The Jiryomatsu (two dragon pines) seem to be the spirits of the pine trees at Chokoji Temple in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. Two pine trees grew in front of the temple gate and were called “Erlongmatsu” by people because they looked like two dragons. One day, two children appeared at the temple and asked the priest to lend them a tin. The priest gave them a tin and a piece of paper, and the children wrote Chinese poems and celebrated, writing such phrases as “the temple of a thousand years” and “the ancient hall is deep with moss” before disappearing in the shade of the Erlong pine tree.

Well, I have introduced only a part of the legends. The legends that are passed down with the yokai are very realistic. I have looked up various yokai in terms of their appearance, and found that some are cute and some are horrifyingly old, but I cannot tell what they really look like, so I will leave that up to your own imagination.

Anyway, it seems that there are quite a few local yokai, so if your friends are having trouble with their free research during the summer vacation, they may want to memorize a map with local yokai. If you are interested, you may also visit Shigeru Mizuki’s exhibition and trace the history of the area this summer.

皆さまこんにちは。スッタフHでございます。

今日から夏の甲子園が始まりましたね。サッカー女子W杯では、なでしこジャパンがベスト８に勝ち進み、スポーツ観戦が楽しみになってきました。

さて先日、アンリ・マティスの回顧展を訪れました。日本で開催されるのは２０年ぶりとのことです。

写真撮影がOKのフロアもありました。

色の魔術師と呼ばれたマティスは若くして画壇の名声を得ました。

随分前のことになりますが、ニューヨークの近代美術館でマティスの「ダンス（Ⅰ）」を見ました。約２.６ ×４メートルもある超巨大な作品に圧倒されました。

色彩が単純で、正直なとこと子供が描いたような線だなと思いました。名画とは？という素人の素朴な疑問が湧いたことを覚えています。

しかし今でもあの部屋に入ってあの絵を見た時の情景は鮮明に覚えていて、これが記憶に残る作品というのでしょうか。

回顧展で掲示されていたマティスの老いを迎えてからの仕事に関する文章が興味深かったです。

７１歳の時に十二指腸癌になり、療養のため南フランスへ移住します。しかし体力は元に戻らず、絵筆で描くことが難しくなりました。そこで彼は絵筆の代わりにハサミを手にし、切り絵に取り組みます。

色を塗った画用紙を色々な形に切り、キャンバスに貼り付けていきました。

線を引いたり色を塗る必要がなく、ハサミで切ると色と形が同時に取り出せるのが最大のメリットだとマティスは言います。下絵もなく即興で切っていきました。

芸術家の表現することへの欲求は並々ならぬものがありますね。

その後、彼の晩年の傑作と言われる南フランス、コートダジュール地方に建てられた「ロザリオ礼拝堂」。回顧展ではこの礼拝堂の中の様子を動画で撮ったものが巨大スクリーンに映し出されていました。

壁一面のステンドグラスには切り絵の要素が生かされています。ガラスは青、緑、黄色の３色のみで、太陽の光で混ざり合い、何とも言えない赤が現れます。

壁の壁画をも衰えた体から力を振り絞って、長い絵筆を使って書いています。

教会の扉、屋根の上の十字架、司祭服など空間全体をデザインしました。

マティスの言葉です。「この礼拝堂は、私が人生を賭けた仕事の到達点だ。私が選んだのではなく、運命によって選ばれた仕事である。画家としての人生すべての結果であり、絶大な努力が実を結んだものである。」

過去の成功にとらわれたまま前向きに生きることができない人も多い中、自分が今できることを模索し最後まで情熱を絶やさず生き抜く。マティスほどの大作を遺さずとも、見習うところがたくさんあります。

Today marks the start of the summer Koshien (the National Summer Koshien Stadium). In the Women’s World Cup soccer tournament, Nadeshiko Japan made it to the last eight, and I am now looking forward to watching sports games.

Now, the other day, I visited a retrospective exhibition of Henri Matisse. It was the first time in 20 years that the exhibition was held in Japan.

There was a floor where photography was allowed.

Matisse, who was called a “magician of color,” achieved fame in the art world at a young age.

Many years ago, I saw Matisse’s “Dance (I)” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. I was overwhelmed by this enormous work, measuring approximately 2.6 x 4 meters.

The colors were simple and, to be honest, I thought the lines looked like they were drawn by a child. What is a masterpiece? I remember thinking, “What is a masterpiece?

However, I still vividly remember the scene when I entered the room and saw the painting, and I wonder if this is the kind of work that will remain in my memory.

It was interesting to see Matisse’s work after he reached old age, which was displayed at the exhibition.

At the age of 71, he developed duodenal cancer and moved to the south of France to recuperate. However, his strength did not return to normal and it became difficult for him to paint with a paintbrush. Instead of using a paintbrush, he picked up a pair of scissors and began to cut out pictures.

He cut colored paper into various shapes and pasted them on the canvas.

Matisse says the greatest advantage of cutting with scissors is that he can capture both color and shape at the same time, without the need to draw lines or apply color. He cut improvising without a rough sketch.

An artist’s desire to express himself is extraordinary.

Later, the “Rosary Chapel” built in the Côte d’Azur region of southern France is said to be his masterpiece of the last years of his life. At the retrospective exhibition, a video of the inside of this chapel was shown on a huge screen.

The stained glass windows on the walls utilize elements of paper cut-outs. The glass is only three colors: blue, green, and yellow, which blend together in the sunlight to reveal an indescribable red.

The murals on the walls are also written with a long paintbrush, using all the strength he could muster from his failing body.

I designed the entire space, including the church doors, the cross on the roof, and the priest’s uniform.

Matisse said. ‘This chapel is the culmination of my life’s work. It is a work that I did not choose, but was chosen by fate. It is the result of my entire life as a painter, the fruit of immense effort.”

While many people are unable to live a positive life while remaining obsessed with their past successes, he sought out what he could do now and remained passionate about it until the end of his life. Even though he did not bequeath a work as large as Matisse’s, there are many things we can learn from him.

台風6号の動きが読めず、ハラハラしますね。こんなにウロウロのろのろ進む台風は珍しく、あまり記憶にありません。被害が少ないことを祈るばかりです。

ここ名古屋では猛暑日が続いております。何かと疲れがたまってきたところで、古美術風光舎名古屋店では暑気払いを執り行いました。

千種区の焼肉店にて美味しいお肉をいただきました。最近焼肉店から足が遠のいており、そんなに沢山は食べられないだろうと思っていましたが、スルスルと胃袋に吸い込まれていきました。

暑気という言葉には「夏の暑さ」と「暑さからくる病気」という２つの意味があるそうです。それらを「払う」ことにより不要なものを取り除き、エネルギーを充電するために暑気払いが行われてきました。

昔の飲み物としては甘酒や梅ジュース、冷やしあめなどが定番で、なす、きゅうり、スイカなどカリウムを多く含むものを食べて暑さをしのいでいたようです。

我々はがっつり美味しいお肉とビールをいただきエネルギーを補充しました。

さて夏を乗り切るためには食べ物だけではなく睡眠も大切だと言われています。

先日、母が陶器の枕を購入して帰ってきました。子供の頃に使っていたそうで、ひんやりして気持ちがいいとか。陶枕（とうちん）と呼ぶそうです。少し試してみましたが、一晩その上で眠るのはとても想像できませんでした。

私も枕に関しては試行錯誤しており、快適な睡眠を追い求め続けています。

人は人生の三分の一は寝て過ごすと考えると本当に長い時間を睡眠に費やしています。

動物の世界では片目ずつ閉じて脳を部分的に眠らせる生き物がいるそうです。代表的なのは大海原をひたすら飛び続けるカモメや燕などの渡り鳥や、肺呼吸をしながら泳ぐイルカで、「片目睡眠」というそうです。

では眠らない動物はいるのでしょうか？結論から言うといないとのこと。

そこで面白い研究結果を見つけました。

私たちは起きて活動しているときが、生物の本来の姿であると勝手に思い込んでいると…。

これまでは生物が脳を獲得したことから睡眠を進化させてきたと考えられてきました。ところが数年前の研究で脳を持たないクラゲや海綿動物、原始的な生物ヒドラやにも睡眠状態があることが発見されました。

これは脳があるから睡眠が必要という定説を揺るがすものでした。

初期の生命体は無反応の状態が続き、起源を辿っていくとむしろ眠っている状態こそが生物としての基本状態であり、外界を認識する能力の獲得と共に生物は仕方なく少しずつ覚醒状態を進化させていった可能性があるとか。

もしそうならば、睡眠を削って活動しつづけるのは危険な気がします。

I am very nervous because I cannot read the movement of typhoon No. 6. It is rare to see a typhoon that moves so slowly and slowly, and I don’t remember many typhoons like this. I just hope there will be little damage.

Here in Nagoya, it has been extremely hot and humid. We held a party to celebrate the heat at the Nagoya branch of Fuukosha Antique Art.

We enjoyed delicious meat at a yakiniku restaurant in Chikusa-ku. I have been away from yakiniku restaurants recently and thought I would not be able to eat so much, but the meat was absorbed into my stomach without a hitch.

The word “hot weather” has two meanings: “summer heat” and “illness from heat. By “dispelling” them, shokibarai has been held to get rid of unnecessary things and recharge energy.

In the old days, amazake (sweet sake), ume (plum) juice, and chilled candy were the standard beverages, and people beat the heat by eating foods high in potassium such as eggplants, cucumbers, and watermelons.

We replenished our energy with delicious meat and beer.

It is said that food and sleep are important to survive the summer.

The other day, my mother came home with a ceramic pillow. She used to use it when she was a child and said it felt nice and cool. She said it is called a ceramic pillow (tochin). I tried it out for a bit, but I couldn’t imagine sleeping on it for a night.

I, too, have been experimenting with pillows and continue to pursue a comfortable sleep.

Considering that we spend one-third of our lives sleeping, we really spend a lot of time sleeping.

In the animal world, there are creatures that partially put their brains to sleep by closing one eye at a time. Typical examples are migratory birds such as seagulls and swallows that fly across the ocean, and dolphins that swim while breathing through their lungs. This is called “one-eye sleep.

Are there any animals that do not sleep? As it turns out, no.

Then I found an interesting study.

We have been led to believe that when we are awake and active, that is the true state of an organism.

Until now, it has been thought that sleep evolved as organisms acquired brains. However, several years ago it was discovered that jellyfish, sponges, and primitive organisms such as hydras, which do not have brains, also have a sleeping state.

This shook up the prevailing theory that sleep is necessary because of the presence of a brain.

Early life forms remained in a state of unresponsiveness, and tracing back to their origins, it is rather possible that the sleeping state was their basic state as living organisms, and that as they acquired the ability to recognize the outside world, they had no choice but to gradually evolve a state of wakefulness.

If this is the case, it seems dangerous to continue to be active while cutting back on sleep.

Please take it easy and get plenty of rest.

みなさまこんにちは、スタッフYでございます。

昨夜のスーパームーン。皆さまの地方ではみられましたでしょうか。

長岡の花火大会がTVで放映されておりまして、スーパームーンと花火の共演は見事でありました。また、昨夜の我が家の近所の様子ですが、雲の行き来が早かったのでスーパームーンは色々な表情をみせてくれておりました。夜の明るさがいつもの月明りと違って明るいのはこの住宅地でもわかりました。

ここで自分におさらいなのですが、皆さまも少々お付き合いくださいませ。

スーパームーンとは、天文学では「ペリジー・ムーン（perigee moon）」とも呼ぶそうでして、通常よりも大きく見える満月（または新月）を指しております。スーパームーンは通常の満月と比べるとその大きさは7％ほど大きく見えるのですが、ほとんどの人がこの差を感じることができないそうです。

とは言うものの、明るさは明らかに違っていることはネオンなど夜の灯が少ない地方ですと、よくわかるのではないでしょうか。住宅地の我が家近辺でもよくわかるくらいでした。

また、本来天文学では「ペリジー・ムーン（perigee moon）」という呼び名であるのですが、「スーパームーン」というほうが一般的にはよく耳に致します。なんとその呼び名、実は1979年に占星術師のリチャード・ノエルによってつくられたそうでして、こちらの方がよりキャッチーだったから、ロマンチックだったから、イメージにあってたからでしょうか。ですが、あの満面の月をみておりますとさすがに誰しも「スーパームーン」と口から漏れるような気がいたします。

リチャードはスーパームーンを「軌道中で地球に最接近したところにある満月または新月」と定義づけたそうなのでが、月の公転軌道は楕円形で地球からの距離が一年を通して変化するため、スーパームーンは年に数回起こります。実際に月から地球までの平均距離は約38万kmなのですが、スーパームーンのときはなんと約35万kmほどに縮まるそうですが、さすがに地球から眺めますとちょっと大きく見えるかもしれない…くらいの距離感になってしまいますね。

ですが、通常の満月や新月よりも約16％明るいとされており、個人的には大きさよりこの明るさアップの方が顕著にわかるような気がいたします。

そしてご存じの方もお見えでしょうが、なんとスーパームーン今年は今月8月に2回見ることができます。

次回のスーパームーンは、8月31日の10時36分。

どうやら同じ月に訪れる2回目の満月のことを「ブルームーン」と呼ぶらしく、さらに満月の中で最も大きい「スーパームーン」でもありますので、次回の8月31日の満月は「スーパーブルームーン」というなかなか珍しいゴージャスな呼び方に。

ですが、月が青くなるわけではありません。そもそも8月の満月には、アメリカ先住民が名付けた「スタージョンムーン」（チョウザメの月）という名前があるそうで、8月になるとチョウザメ漁がさかんに行われたことからこう呼ばれているのが由来のようでして、今年に関してはもうチョウザメのほうは2日のほうにさし上げて、31日のことは「スーパーブルームーン」と呼んでいいのではないかと思っておりますが、兎に角お天気であることだけを期待したいものですね。

それもそのはず、現在沖縄に台風が上陸しており沖縄地方の皆さまはそれどころではなかったと思われます。今回の台風の進路、猛暑やゲリラ豪雨といい、予測不可能なことが多いこの夏。スーパームーンにお願い事をするとよいとも聞いておりますので、昨夜のお願い事はこの夏の安寧。そんな気持ちでスーパームーンを眺めておりました。

Last night’s supermoon. I hope you were able to see it in your area.

The fireworks display in Nagaoka was on TV, and the supermoon and the fireworks were a spectacular sight. As for our neighborhood last night, the supermoon showed us many different faces because the clouds were coming and going quickly. I could tell even in this residential neighborhood that the nighttime brightness was brighter than the usual moonlight.

I would like to review this for myself here, and I hope you will all bear with me for a moment.

A supermoon is also called a “perigee moon” in astronomy, referring to a full moon (or new moon) that appears larger than usual. A supermoon appears to be about 7% larger than a normal full moon, but most people do not notice the difference.

However, the brightness of the moon is clearly different, which can be clearly seen in rural areas where there are few neon lights at night. It was so obvious even in the vicinity of our house in a residential area.

Originally, in astronomy, it is called a “perigee moon,” but it is more commonly known as a “supermoon. The name was actually coined by astrologer Richard Noel in 1979, perhaps because it was more catchy and suited the image. However, when looking at that full moon, I think everyone would say “supermoon”.

Richard defined a supermoon as “a full moon or new moon that is at its closest approach to the earth in its orbit.” The moon’s orbit is elliptical and its distance from the earth changes throughout the year, so a supermoon occurs several times a year. The average distance from the moon to the earth is about 380,000 km, but during a supermoon, the distance is reduced to about 350,000 km.

However, it is said to be about 16% brighter than a normal full moon or new moon, and I personally think that this increase in brightness is more noticeable than the size of the moon. Furthermore, one of the phenomena that can be seen during a supermoon is that the tides rise and fall rapidly and the difference between high and low tides is large.

And as some of you may know, we will be able to see two super moons this year in August. The next supermoon will be on August 31 at 10:36.

Apparently, the second full moon that comes in the same month is called a “blue moon,” and it is also the largest “super moon” of all full moons, so the next full moon on August 31 will be called a “super blue moon,” which is quite unusual and gorgeous.

However, it does not mean that the moon will be blue. The August full moon was named “Sturgeon Moon” (sturgeon moon) by the Native Americans, and the name comes from the fact that sturgeon fishing was very active in August, I think we can call the 31st a “super blue moon,” but I hope the weather will be fine.

That’s right, a typhoon is currently making landfall in Okinawa, and we are sure that everyone in the Okinawa region has had a hard time keeping up with it. This summer is full of unpredictable events, such as the path of typhoons, extreme heat, and guerrilla downpours. I have heard that it is good to make a wish on the supermoon, so I made a wish last night for this summer’s peace and quiet. I was watching the super moon with such a feeling.

みなさまこんにちは、スタッフYでございます。

今回もいつもの悪い癖がでてまして。美術館展覧会の開期最終日やぎりぎりを攻める癖が発動いたしました。このところ美術館などでは人員の密集を避けるため予約制のところも増えて参りましたが、予約なしのところですと、ついつい油断してしまして。気づくとぎりぎりだったりして危なかった…と、思いながら今回も最終日に訪れることになってしまいました。結構長く生きているというのにこの悪い癖はいっこうになおりません。

というわけで、駆け込みで行って参りました

「川瀬巴水　旅と郷愁の風景」展

巡回展でして、名古屋では松坂屋名古屋店内の松坂屋美術館にて昨日まででしたが、開催されておりました。

今回訪れた木版画家・川瀬巴水（1883～1957〔明治16～昭和32〕年)は、大正から昭和にかけて活躍した木版画家。近代化の波が押し寄せ、街や風景がめまぐるしく変貌していく時代に、巴水は日本の原風景を求めて全国を旅し、庶民の生活が息づく四季折々の風景を描きます。

また、巴水とともに木版画制作の道を歩んだのが、新時代の木版画「新版画」を推進した版元の渡邊庄三郎（現・渡邊木版美術画舗初代）や彫師、摺師といった職人たちの存在も大きく、四者は一体となって協業し、伝統技術を継承しながらもより高度な技術の活用を求め、新たな色彩や表現に挑み続け、「新版画」を牽引する存在として当時人気を博します。

季節や天候、時の移ろいを豊かに表現し「旅情詩人」とも呼ばれた川瀬巴水の画家としての生涯を、初期から晩年までの代表的な作品とともに紹介しており、まとめて観る機会の少ない連作（シリーズ）も含め約180点と作品も多く、今回は一気に叙情的な巴水の世界へ浸ることができました。

川瀬巴水は「旅情詩人」とよばれるように、旅先や生まれ故郷の東京を描きつづけ、風景画のジャンルで新版画をリードする存在であったようです。巴水を版画家として決定付ける歴史的な作と評価されるのが、旅に基づく初めての連作となった『旅みやげ第一集』。東北や北陸、房州、塩原などに取材した同作では、海や川といった水辺、雨や月など、巴水が生涯好んで取り上げたモチーフを多彩に描くており、当時のその地方の様子などを季節や天候、そして時間帯を、彼らの独自の画の切り取り方、色使い、技法はさすが。どの画にも、この画はこの一瞬を切り取ったのだ、というこの一枚に込めた集中力が感じ取れます。特に、雨や雪の表現は大変繊細な技巧でしして、彼らのその技法への追及がとても繊細で素晴らしいかったので、これは間近でぜひ見ていただきたいものです。

また、これとほぼ同時期に始まった『東京十二題』のように、名所だけに目を向けず、自らの関心の赴くまま、四季折々の東京の風景を独自の視点で切り取った作品も多くありました。巴水の風景画は、いわばその土地と結びついた「物語」を持たずに、一定の視座をもつひとりの人物の視点から捉えられた風景が多く、江戸時代の木版画とは少し異なるところに近代的な表現も見えてきます。これはちょっと以前鑑賞した鏑木清方作品に似ているな…時代も同じくらいだなと思っておりましたら、どうやら巴水は鏑木清方の元に弟子入りしており「巴水」の名をつけていただいたようで、驚きました。

そして、関東震災後、巴水作品を代表するのが全20図からなる『東京二十景』を発表。震災後近代都市へと復興してゆく途上にある東京を捉えた作品から、昔から変わらない風景を描いたものまでいずれの作品も人気を集めたようでして、とりわけこの連作からは、朱色の寺院に白い雪、その中を和傘の女性が歩みゆく、江戸の風情に溢れた《芝増上寺》、そして月夜に松のシルエットが浮かび上がる《馬込の月》という2つの大人気作が生まれることになりました。実は、昔この馬込近辺に住んでいたことがございまして、ちょっとびっくり致しましたが、当時ももうすでにビルや住宅街がひしめき合う都会になっておりましたが、こんな風情ある月が見える景色があったとは、見たこともない昔の風景でのどこか懐かしさも感じました。

そんな川瀬作品ですが、亡くなる74才まで40年間にわたり日本中を旅残した作品は600点以上。海外では北斎・広重と並び称され、頭文字から風景画の３H（Hokusai,hiroshige,Hasui）と呼ばれており、（新版画には他にも橋口五葉、吉田博、伊東深水など30名位の絵師がいますが、） 大人気のようで、多くの美術館やコレクターに収集されているようであります。あのスティーブ・ジョブズ氏もその一人だったようでして、今回の展示もジョブズのコレクションと同じ作品も展示されておりましたが、彼のコレクションからは、色鮮やかなわりと大きな景色を切り取った作品が好きだったことがわかります。

とまあ、180点の作品を至近距離30センチで隈なく鑑賞して出口にさしかかりましたが、入口での私とはすっかり気持ちも変わり木版画にすっかり魅了されて出口に佇んでおりました。いやいや私だけではない。きっとこの場に立つと、誰しも木版画に魅了されているに違いないと思っておりますが、機会がございましたら木版画の世界、覗いてみてください。

This time, too, I got into my usual bad habit. I have been in the habit of attacking museum exhibitions on the last day of the opening period or at the very last minute. Recently, more and more museums require reservations in order to avoid overcrowding, but when there are no reservations, I tend to let my guard down. I was so close to visiting on the last day of the tour when I realized I was just in time…and I ended up visiting again on the last day of the tour. I have been alive for quite a long time, but this bad habit has never changed.

So, I rushed over to visit the “Kawase Tomoe Mizue: Travels and Art” exhibition.

It is a traveling exhibition, and in Nagoya, it was held at Matsuzakaya Museum of Art in Matsuzakaya Nagoya until yesterday.

Kawase Boesui (1883-1957), the woodblock print artist we visited this time, was active from the Taisho to Showa periods. In an era of modernization, when towns and landscapes were undergoing rapid changes, Tomoe travelled around Japan in search of original Japanese landscapes, depicting seasonal landscapes where the lives of ordinary people still lived.

The exhibition introduces the life of Tomoe Kawase, who was also called a “traveler’s poet” for his rich expression of the seasons, weather, and the transitions of time, along with his representative works from his early years to his later years. I was able to immerse myself in the lyrical world of Tomoe Sui at once.

Kawase Tomoe Sui, known as a “traveler’s poet,” continued to depict his travels and his birthplace, Tokyo, and seems to have been a leader in the new print genre of landscape painting. Tomoe’s first series of works based on his travels, “Tabi-miyage Dai-ichi” (First series of travel souvenirs), is regarded as a historic work that defined Tomoe as a printmaker. In this series, which was based on his travels in Tohoku, Hokuriku, Boshu, Shiobara, and other regions, Tomoe Sui depicted a variety of motifs that he favored throughout his life, such as the ocean, rivers and other bodies of water, rain, and the moon. In each painting, one can sense the concentration they put into this single piece, as if they were capturing this one moment in time. In particular, the rain and snow were rendered with great delicacy, and their pursuit of this technique was so delicate and wonderful that it is definitely worth seeing up close and personal.

In addition, there were many works such as “Twelve Views of Tokyo,” which started around the same time, that did not focus only on famous landmarks but also depicted the seasonal scenery of Tokyo from their own unique perspectives, following their own interests. Many of Tomoe’s landscapes are captured from the viewpoint of a single person with a certain perspective, without a “story” associated with the area, so to speak, and we can see modern expressions in his landscapes, which differ slightly from woodblock prints of the Edo period. I was thinking that these works were similar to the works of Kaburaki Kiyokata, which I had seen before…and that they were from the same period.

After the Great Kanto Earthquake, Tomoe Sui published “Twenty Views of Tokyo,” a series of 20 paintings that are representative of his work. From this series of works, two very popular works were created: “Shiba Zojoji Temple,” with its vermilion temple surrounded by white snow and a woman with a Japanese umbrella walking through the snow, which is full of the atmosphere of Edo, and “Magome no Tsuki” with the silhouette of a pine tree floating in the moonlit night. The “Moon over Magome,” in which the silhouette of a pine tree emerges in the moonlit night, are two of his most popular works. I used to live in the Magome area, and was a bit surprised to see such an elegant view of the moon, which I had never seen in the past.

Kawase traveled all over Japan for 40 years until his death at the age of 74, and left behind more than 600 works. His works are called 3H (Hokusai, Hiroshige, Hasui), which stands for landscape paintings, along with those of Hokusai and Hiroshige, and is very popular and collected by many museums and collectors (although there are about 30 other artists in Shinpanga, including Goyo Hashiguchi, Hiroshi Yoshida, and Shinsui Ito). Many museums and collectors seem to collect them. Steve Jobs was one of them, and this exhibition included some of the same works from his collection, but we can see from his collection that he liked colorful and rather large landscape cutouts.

I was standing at the exit, completely fascinated by the woodblock prints and feeling completely different from the way I felt at the entrance. No, no, no, it was not only me. I am sure that everyone who stands here must be fascinated by woodblock prints, and if you have a chance, please take a peek at the world of woodblock prints.

皆さまこんにちは。スッタフHでございます。

この暑さの中、外へ出るには気合いがいりますが、出かけてみると疲労感と共に充実感もあります。

先日訪れた「月見ル君想フ」という名のライブハウスです。

名前がロマンチックです。

私は家族に同行した身でしたが、それでも生の音楽というのは気分が高揚しました。

アーティストの方が観客の声を久しぶりに聞いて、グッと涙を堪える様子に私もウルっときてしまいました。

最近ではオンライン配信でのライブも盛んに行われているようで、家で好きなものを飲みながらリラックスして観る光景もあたりまえになってきています。

私はライブやコンサートに頻繁に足を運ぶタイプではなかったので、学生時代に配信ライブがあればもっと参加していたかもしれません。

しかし生で聴く音楽ライブには特別な効能があるようで、音楽ライブを体験するだけで幸福感が上がり、寿命も伸びる？という研究結果もあるようです。

大好きなアーティストの楽曲に乗りながら歌ったりこぶしを突き上げたり、叫んだりして高揚感を味わえるライブは日常とはかけ離れた貴重な時間です。

さらに大好きなアーティストの音楽を聴く喜びもさることながら、どうやら大勢の人と思考や行動を合わせ、体験や感動を同時にすることで、他者との関りを実感し、自らの価値を認める気持ちの上昇が起こり、自己効力感が高まるとのこと。

自己肯定感は聞いたことがありますが自己効力感は聞いたことがありませんでした。

「自己肯定感」はできるかできないかは関係なく、できてもできなくても自分を受け入れ、自分の存在価値を認められることを表し、「自己効力感」は自分の行動や成果に対して「自分なら正しい道を選択し結果を出せる」と信じることを表すそうです。

自己効力感が高いと失敗しても落ち込みにくく、問題点を解決して次はできるはずとモチベーションを維持し、何事にも前向きに取り組むことができるとのこと。

私の周りにもパワフルで何事にも果敢に挑戦する人たちがいます。きっと自己効力感が高いのでしょうね。

音楽ライブの他にスポーツ観戦でも同じ効果があり、また不思議なことに映画館においてもこの一体感は少なからずあるようです。

映画館の壁や床はスピーカーから発せられた音を吸収するように柔らかいもので覆われています。

この吸収構造に劇場にいるすべての人が、あたかもスクリーン内の世界に投げ込まれたような錯覚に陥ります。そのため自然と映画の世界に集中できるそうです。

更に映画を見ている人の心拍数は一斉に拍動することが多く、皮膚センサーで測定した時に全員同じくらいの感情的興奮を経験していたとのこと。

その状態を一定の時間維持することで、日常生活での問題解決スキルも向上させ、生産性を高める結果につながるとか。

やはり他者とつながるというのは思っている以上に大切なことなのかもしれませんね。

It takes a lot of energy to go out in this heat, but when I do, I feel both exhausted and fulfilled.

The other day I visited a live music club called “Tsukimiru Kimi Omofu.

The name is romantic.

I was accompanying my family, but even so, I felt uplifted by the live music.

I was moved to tears when I saw the artist holding back tears after hearing the audience’s voices for the first time in a long time.

Nowadays, it seems that many live performances are streamed online, and it has become commonplace to relax and watch them at home while sipping your favorite drink.

I was not the type of person who frequently went to live shows or concerts, so if live streaming had been available when I was a student, I might have attended more of them.

However, listening to live music live seems to have special benefits. Some studies have shown that simply experiencing a live music concert can increase your sense of well-being and even extend your life expectancy.

Live music is a precious time away from everyday life where you can sing, pump your fists, and shout while listening to your favorite artists.

In addition to the joy of listening to the music of your favorite artists, it seems that by thinking and acting together with many other people, experiencing and being moved at the same time, you feel a sense of connection with others and an increased sense of self-worth, which in turn increases your sense of self-efficacy.

I have heard of self-affirmation, but I had never heard of self-efficacy.

Self-affirmation is about accepting oneself and recognizing one’s own self-worth regardless of whether one can or cannot do something, and self-efficacy is about believing that one can choose the right path and achieve results with regard to one’s actions and achievements.

When self-efficacy is high, people are less likely to feel depressed when they fail, and they are more likely to solve problems and maintain motivation to do better the next time, and to tackle everything positively.

I am surrounded by people who are powerful and bold enough to take on any challenge. They must have a high sense of self-efficacy.

In addition to live music, the same effect can be seen at sporting events, and strangely enough, this sense of togetherness seems to be present in movie theaters as well.

The walls and floors of movie theaters are covered with a soft material that absorbs the sound emitted from the speakers.

This absorbing structure creates the illusion that everyone in the theater has been thrown into the world inside the screen. Therefore, they can naturally concentrate on the world of the movie.

Furthermore, the heart rates of people watching a movie often beat in unison, and when measured by skin sensors, they all experienced the same amount of emotional excitement.

Maintaining that state for a certain amount of time also improves problem-solving skills in daily life and results in increased productivity, they say.

Perhaps connecting with others is more important than we think.
