いよいよゴールデンウイークに入りましたね。

 

 

 

 

すでにお休みモードに突入した方もおいででしょうが、ここ名古屋、本日はゴールデンウィークらしい爽やかなお天気です。本日も買取のお客様宅にお伺いいたしましたが、窓全開でのお片付け。春の爽やかな風がさーっと部屋中を真っすぐ通り抜けて、やっぱり一年の中で一番好きな季節だな…なんて思いながらお仕事をしておりました。

 

このように連休も古美術風光舎は営業しておりますが、スタッフＹは連休後のプランをいろいろ検討しております。というのも先日万博の入場券をいただきまいして、連休が終わったら是非行ってみようと検討中。

 

いろいろ万博の入場券について調べておりましたら、入場券についてちょっと面白い記事が目に留まりました。その前にまずは幻の万博のことから呟いてみますので、ご興味ございましたらお付き合いくださいませ。

 

日本では過去５回、そして今回の大阪万博をいれると６回万博が開催されていますが、実は第１回の大阪万博以前の1940年にすでに万博の計画がかなり具体的にあったようでして、そう、幻の万博です。

 

時は、第一次世界大戦後。戦勝国となった日本は国際連盟の常任理事国になり世界屈指の強国へと変貌していくのですが、日本は遅れてきた帝国主義国家とはいえ国際社会において国の威信を内外に紹介するという野心が浮上してもきます。大正末から昭和にかけて日本の政治状況が比較的安定していたことも幸いだったのですが、1929年濱口雄幸内閣が成立後、同内閣は反対派を押し切ってロンドン条約を調印、幣原喜重郎外相のいわゆる幣原外交と言われた国際協調路線は列国から歓迎され、このなかで内外の環境が整い、オリンピックや万博など国際的な祭典を開催するという機運が盛り上がっていくことになります。

 

そして、1929年には神武天皇の即位記念紀元2600（1940）年の祝賀行事の一環として、オリンピックも東京で夏季大会、札幌で冬季大会を札幌で開催すること、さらに東京で念願の万博を開催するといった野心的なプランが内定します。

 

1930年には国内では万国博覧会協議会が設置、1934年に同博覧協会が組織化され、1940年に日本万国博覧会を開催することを決定していたのですが、日本は国際博覧会条約に加盟していなかったため、公式ではなく特殊博覧会ということで認可が下りています。さらに1936年に東京オリンピック開催も決定し、万博事務局は世界70ヶ国に招請状を送り、さらに使節団を派遣するなど積極的に参加を促し、結果40ヶ国ほどが参加を表明していたようであります。

 

当時恐慌が徐々に世界に広がる中、これは日本にとって関東大震災からの復興と今までの殖産興業の成果を世界にアピールするまたとないチャンスととらえたのでしょうか。会場は現在の晴海と豊洲、さらに横浜の山下公園に決定したようでして、隅田川にかかる跳開橋の勝鬨橋を整備しこれをメインゲートとし、晴海には日本関係のパビリオンを建設、入り口には肇国（ちょうこく）記念館を建設して内部では日本の歴史を紹介するコーナーを設置したり、さらに周辺には農業、紡績、機械、林業というそれぞれの分野の建物を建設。

 

第２会場には海外のパビリオンが設置されるプランとなっていたようで、さらには会場には高さ100ｍの電波塔を建設してテレビ中継を行うという画期的なプランが出され、試験放送も成功していたようでありました。

 

なんと万博パンフレットもできあがっていたようでして、パンフレットには「悠遠の過去を有する我国の絢爛たる文化活動の成果を政治、教育、学芸、交通、財政、経済等各般の分野に亘り、之れを最も進歩した形態に於て展示し」などと熱を帯びた文字が躍っており、事業費を集めるため前売り券は懸賞付き、また万博行進曲も決定、歌手の藤山一郎が担当することになっていたりと、国力全開で臨んだ計画だったのでしょうね。

 

しかし、ここまで具体的なプランが目の前まで出来上がっていたのですが、不況の影響は続くととなり、ついには1931年に満州事変が勃発、1937年には日中戦争が始まります。結局、建設できたのは万博事務局のみ。その後、日中戦争は泥沼化して資金や建築資材、労働力は不足、このため万博中止の声が高まり1938年には万博延期。そして、結局万博のみならず、オリンピックも返上ということになり、紀元2600年、戦前、日本が国際社会に東西文化の融合を表現したいとする明治維新後の一大イベントになるはずだった万博は戦後に持ち越されることになりました。

 

ここまでプランが出来上がっていた幻の万博、もちろん入場券もできあがっており発売もされていたようであります。販売された回数入場券は100万冊。大半は払い戻されたのですが、1万冊以上が購入者の手元に残ったとみられるておりますが、この入場券、戦後になってから日の目を見ることとなります。

 

なんと、1970年大阪万博の運営主体が、戦争で払い戻し請求も困難だったことなどを理由に、入場券を有効として扱うことを決めたそうでして、その後2005年開催の愛知万博でも「有効」とされました。保有者からの問い合わせを契機に扱いが検討され、せっかく大事にしていた回数券だから対応しようという話になったようですね。

 

 

 

 

で、どのくらい実際に利用されたか気になりませんか？。

〝幻の入場券〟なんと70年大阪万博では3077件、愛知万博では96件使用されたというのですから、結構お持ちの方がいらしゃったようですね。そしてこの幻の入場券、もちろん今回の大阪・関西万博でも使用可能とのこと！。

 

まさか…と、お思いのみなさま。万が一、先代の古いタンスにこの幻の入場券がございましたら、大阪万博でも使用可能です。幻の万博に行くことができなかった先代の思いと一緒に、100年後の万博を訪れるなんて…、なんか浪漫しかないですね。

Golden Week has finally arrived.

 

Some of you may have already entered the vacation mode, but here in Nagoya, the weather today is refreshing, as is typical of the Golden Week vacations. Today, we visited a customer’s house to buy some items, but we had to clean out the house with all the windows open. The fresh spring breeze was blowing straight through the room, and I was thinking to myself, “This is my favorite season of the year…” as I worked.

 

So, the Fumikosha is open for business during the holidays, and our staff Y is considering various plans for after the holidays. We received admission tickets to the Expo the other day, and are considering visiting the Expo after the holidays are over.

 

I was doing some research on admission tickets to the Expo and came across an interesting article about admission tickets. Before I go any further, I’d like to start with the phantom Expo, so if you’re interested, please bear with me.

 

In Japan, there have been five World Expos held in the past, and six if you include the current Osaka Expo, but in fact, there was already a very concrete plan for a World Expo in 1940, before the first Osaka Expo, and yes, it was a phantom World Expo.

 

The time was after World War I. Japan became the victorious nation. Japan became a permanent member of the League of Nations, and was transformed into one of the most powerful nations in the world. Japan was fortunate that the political situation was relatively stable from the end of the Taisho era to the Showa era, but after the establishment of the cabinet of Yuko Hamaguchi in 1929, the cabinet overcame opposition and signed the Treaty of London. The international cooperation policy of Foreign Minister Kijuro Shidehara was welcomed by the world’s powers, and the environment both inside and outside Japan improved, and the momentum to hold international festivals such as the Olympics and the World Exposition grew.

 

In 1929, as part of the celebration of the year 2600 A.D. (1940), commemorating the accession of Emperor Jinmu to the throne, an ambitious plan was announced to hold the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and the Winter Olympic Games in Sapporo, as well as to hold the long-sought-after World Exposition in Tokyo.

 

In 1930, the World Exposition Council was established in Japan, and in 1934, the Exposition Association was organized and decided to hold the Japan World Exposition in 1940. However, since Japan was not a member of the International Exposition Convention, the approval was granted as a special exposition rather than an official one. In 1936, the decision was made to host the Tokyo Olympics, and the Expo Bureau sent invitations to 70 countries around the world and dispatched delegations to actively encourage their participation.

 

With the depression gradually spreading throughout the world at the time, this may have been seen as a unique opportunity for Japan to showcase to the world its recovery from the Great Kanto Earthquake and the results of its past industrial development efforts. The venues for the event were selected to be located in Harumi, Toyosu, and Yamashita Park in Yokohama. The Kachidokibashi Bridge over the Sumida River was constructed as the main gate, a pavilion related to Japan was built in Harumi, and the Hajikoku Memorial Hall was constructed at the entrance to introduce Japanese history, In addition, buildings for the respective fields of agriculture, textiles, machinery, and forestry will be constructed in the surrounding area.

 

A second site was planned for a foreign pavilion, and an epoch-making plan to build a 100-meter-high radio tower at the site to broadcast live TV broadcasts, which was successfully tested.

 

The pamphlet was also ready, and it enthusiastically stated, “The results of our country’s glorious cultural activities in the distant past will be exhibited in the most advanced form in every field, including politics, education, arts and sciences, transportation, finance, and the economy. The advance tickets were to include a prize, and the Expo march was to be performed by Ichiro Fujiyama, a singer.

 

However, despite the concrete plans that had been drawn up, the effects of the recession continued, and finally in 1931 the Manchurian Incident broke out and in 1937 the Sino-Japanese War broke out. In the end, only the Expo Secretariat was able to be built. The Sino-Japanese War became a quagmire, and there were shortages of funds, construction materials, and labor. In the end, not only the World Expo but also the Olympic Games had to be cancelled, and the Expo, which was to be a major event after the Meiji Restoration, was carried over to the postwar period, when Japan wanted to express to the international community the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.

 

The plan for the event had already been completed, and of course, admission tickets for the event were already on sale. One million tickets were sold. Most of the tickets were refunded, but it is believed that more than 10,000 tickets remained in the hands of the buyers.

 

The operator of the 1970 Osaka Expo decided to treat the tickets as valid because it was difficult to claim refunds due to the war, and they were subsequently deemed “valid” for the 2005 Aichi Expo. The decision to treat the tickets as valid was made in response to inquiries from holders, and it seems that the decision was made because the tickets were so cherished.

 

But, don’t you wonder how many of these tickets have actually been used?

The “phantom admission tickets” were used in 3,077 cases at the 1970 Osaka Expo and 96 cases at the Aichi Expo, so it seems that there were quite a few people who owned these tickets. And of course, this phantom admission ticket can be used at this year’s Osaka-Kansai Expo!

 

To those of you who may be thinking, “No way…. If you happen to have this ticket in your old wardrobe, you can use it at the Osaka Expo. It would be a romantic idea to visit the World Expo 100 years from now with the thoughts of my predecessor who was unable to go to the fantastic Expo….

この春から生活リズムが変わり、お弁当作りがこれまでより早くなって少々寝不足の日が続いています。と言っても“映える”お弁当からは程遠い、いわゆる“地味弁”です。まぁ映えなくても毎日作ることが大切ですからと自分に言い訳しています。

お弁当の隙間埋めの必須アイテムだと思っている卵焼き。家族の好みにより、我が家のお弁当の卵焼きは、だし巻きになりましたが、私の母が作る卵焼きは甘い味付けだったなと作るたびに思い出します。

 

まあまあ料理好きだった母。そういえば料理雑誌やレシピ本を集めるのが趣味でした。ところがこれが膨大な量でして、一度一緒に整理した際に大変苦労したことを覚えています。同じようなレシピ本が何冊もあって、雑誌も捨てられず大事に取ってあるんです。そう、母は片付けがあまり得意ではありませでした。

 

本を選別するために、以前「作って美味しかったレシピに付箋つけて」と母にお願いしてみたけれど、片付け苦手な母が動くわけもなく。結局私が、携帯やパソコンをうまく使いこなせない母のためにレシピを一通り残しました。

本からビリビリ破りとったり、コピーしたり、これがなかなか骨が折れる仕事でした。

そして実際やってみてわかったんです。
それほど料理が得意ではない人にとって、レシピ本って1冊につき、数品しかリピートするレシピがないということを(笑)あんなに「全部いる！」と言ってたおせち本たちですら、コピー10枚程度にスッキリまとまりました。

分厚くなったものの、なんとか1冊にまとまった料理レシピファイルと、それとは別に、お菓子レシピファイルを分けて、「レシピ探しはこのファイルから」という状態完成しました。

そして実感。これってすごく時短なのです。

なに作ろう、って考えた時にパラパラ見る本が30冊もあるってどう思いますか？
ファイル1冊に見出しつけたり、入れ替えたりしてレシピ集を育てた方が絶対に時短です。まあ私1人なら、スマホで解決もできるんですけどね。

 

 

レシピ本は、誰かが料理したものしか食べない生活になったら（食事付施設に入居などなど）不要になるものですよね。
処分するときには、きっと自分では動けなくて、誰かの手を煩わせるものになってしまいます。ですので、最低限にしておきたいものです。

このことを思い出し、先日私も料理本を断捨離しました。そうしたら、本当にファイル２つ分にスッキリ？減りました！

今後は「おいしくなかった」「しょっぱい」「面倒くさい」レシピを抜いたり、入れ替えながら、量が増え過ぎないようキープしていこうと思います。

My daily routine has changed since this spring, and I have been making bento earlier than before, which means that I have been a little sleep deprived. However, my bento is far from a “good-looking” bento; it is what I call a “plain bento. I tell myself that even if it doesn’t look good, it is important to make a bento every day.

I consider omelettes to be an indispensable item to fill in the gaps in a bento. Due to family preferences, the omelet in our bento has become dashimaki, but every time I make it, I remember that my mother used to make omelet with a sweet flavor.

My mother was a fairly good cook. She enjoyed collecting cooking magazines and recipe books. I remember how difficult it was for me to organize them all together. There were many similar recipe books, and I kept the magazines because I couldn’t throw them away. Yes, my mother was not very good at tidying up.

 

In order to sort through the books, I asked her to put sticky notes on the recipes that she had made and enjoyed, but she would not do it because she was not good at tidying up. In the end, I left all the recipes for my mother, who is not very good at using a cell phone or a computer.

It was quite a hard job, tearing out the books and copying them.

And I found out after I actually did it.
For people who are not that good at cooking, there are only a few recipes in each recipe book that they keep coming back to (laugh). Even the Osechi books that I had been saying “I need them all!” were reduced to about 10 copies.

Although the book became thick, I managed to put all the recipes into one file, and I also separated the recipe file for pastries into two separate files.

And then I realized. This is a very shortcut.

What do you think about having 30 books to flip through when you are thinking about what to cook?
It would definitely be shorter to have one file with headings and to change them around and to grow a recipe collection. Well, if it’s just me, I can solve this problem with my smartphone.

 

 

 

Recipe books are something that will become unnecessary when you live a life where you only eat what someone else has cooked for you (e.g., moving into a facility with meals, etc.).
When it comes time to get rid of them, they will surely be something that you can’t move and that someone else will have to deal with. So, I would like to keep it to a minimum.

Remembering this, the other day I also got rid of my cookbooks. I did so, and it really cleared up to two files? I have reduced the number of books to two files!

From now on, I will try to keep the volume of cookbooks from increasing too much by removing and replacing recipes that are “not tasty,” “too salty,” or “too much trouble.

連休間近の方もお見えでしょうがいかがお過ごしでしょうか。このところの日差しが強くなると共に、暑さも増してきましたので、スタッフY先日いよいよ衣替えを致しました。

 

 

 

 

いつの間にか着ていないお洋服がいわゆる「箪笥の肥やし」が見事だったのですが、「ちょっと暑い」「とても暑い」「この場所にはこれがいるかも」などなどTPOの他に細かな季節感がはいってきたりして、その点だけはこの四季折々の移ろいが恨めしくなる時があります。南国に暮らしているとこんな「箪笥の肥やし」なんてなかっただろうに…。

 

この「衣替え」、もともと中国の風習なのですが、旧暦の4月1日に冬服を夏服に、10月1日に夏服を冬服に着替えていたことを指していたようです。 日本に伝来したのは平安時代の頃でして、中国と同様に年2回、夏と冬の装束を入れ替える貴族の間だけの行事でありました。「衣替え」貴族にならって始めたのか…。

 

今で言う日本の「衣替え」は、平安時代は「更衣（こうい）」と呼ばれており、旧暦４月１日と10月１日にそれぞれ冬から夏に、夏から冬に、衣装を替える儀式として実施されていました。

 

更衣では夏装束と冬装束が定められていたほか、女房（貴婦人）が手に持つ扇も、冬はヒノキ製の「桧扇（ひおうぎ）」、夏は紙と竹製の蝙蝠（かわほり）と定められていましたようで、アイテムもそれぞれ夏冬仕様に替えていたようですね。

 

現代のカジュアルな衣替えと比べてずいぶん大仰な感じがしますが、実はこの「更衣」には、単に体温調節や健康管理にとどまらず、当時から季節感を取り入れ愛でるものですから、もちろん入れ替えは必須でしょうね。

 

また当時は、どうやら季節の変わり目に「ケガレ」や「厄」が溜まると信じられていたようなのです。それらを、衣類を交換することで祓ってしまおうという意図があり、特に６月は梅雨の時期で、暑さ、大雨、湿気など好ましくない季節だと思われていたようでして、それはそうですよね。

 

というのも、今ほど医学が発達していなかったのもあってか、人々は自分自身の体の状態についてとても敏感だったのでしょうか。ちょっとしたマイナスの変化があるとすぐにお祓いをしたりまじないをかけたり、悪いモノを追い払おうとしてところをみると、現代のわれわれよりも環境や自分のコンディションをキャッチするアンテナは敏感だったのでしょうね。

 

当時の貴族のようにはなかなかいきませんが、「箪笥の肥やし」と格闘しながらも気持ちだけは心身を整える儀式のような心持で、次回は「衣替え」を執り行いたいと思っております。何事も心持からでしょうか笑。

I know that some of you may be on a holiday weekend, but how are you doing? The sun has been shining more strongly and it has been getting hotter, so Staff Y finally changed her clothes the other day.

 

I have been finding that the clothes that I don’t wear are “fodder in the drawers,” but I sometimes feel resentful about the seasonal changes, because I have a detailed sense of the season as well as TPO, such as “it’s a little hot,” “it’s very hot,” and “this might be necessary in this place. If I lived in a tropical country, I would not have such “chests of drawers”….

 

This “change of clothes” was originally a Chinese custom, which refers to changing winter clothes into summer clothes on April 1 and summer clothes into winter clothes on October 1 of the lunar calendar. It was introduced to Japan during the Heian period (794-1185) and, like in China, was an event only for aristocrats who changed their summer and winter clothes twice a year. Did the aristocrats start this custom of “changing clothes” as they did in Japan?

 

In the Heian period (794-1185), the Japanese “change of clothes” was called “Koui,” and was held on April 1 and October 1 of the lunar calendar as a ritual to change costumes from winter to summer and from summer to winter, respectively.

 

In addition to the summer and winter costumes, the women (noblewomen) were required to wear a hinoki cypress fan in winter and a paper and bamboo bat in summer, and it seems that the items were also changed for summer and winter respectively.

 

Although it seems quite exaggerated compared to the casual change of clothes of today, in fact, this “changing of clothes” was not only for the purpose of temperature control and health management, but also to incorporate and appreciate the sense of the seasons, so of course it was necessary to change the clothes.

 

In those days, it was also believed that “injuries” and “bad luck” would accumulate at the change of seasons. The intention was to exorcise them by changing clothes, especially in June, which was the rainy season and considered to be an undesirable season due to heat, heavy rain, and humidity, which is true.

 

This is probably because medicine was not as developed as it is today, and people were very sensitive about the state of their own bodies. Whenever there was a slight change, they would immediately perform an exorcism, cast a spell, or try to drive away the bad things.

 

Although I am not as good as the aristocrats of those days, I would like to hold a “change of clothes” next time, as if it were a ritual to prepare my mind and body while struggling with the “fodder in the chests. Everything starts from the heart, right?

風光舎の店舗前に飾られた鯉のぼり、今では珍しいのか子供たちの反応が微笑ましいです。わざわざ自転車を降りて見上げてくれる子もおります。その姿を店内から眺めるというのが最近の楽しみになっております。

 

 

 

 

午前中は雨で涼しかったのですが、本日４月２３日より気象庁と環境省からの「熱中症警戒アラート」の運用が始まるとのこと。少し早い気もいたしますが、アラートの基準となる「暑さ指数」は気温だけではなく湿度も関係するようで、湿度が高いと発汗が抑えられ体内に熱がこもりやすくなり熱中症の危険が高まるとのこと。雨の日でも油断大敵なのです。

熱中症で亡くなる人は年々増え続け、病院に搬送される人は昨年９万７５７８人にまでのぼったとのこと。以前、両親が真夏の夜に扇風機だけで寝ているのを目撃しショックを受けました。「そこまで暑くない、エアコンは冷えすぎる」と言うので強制的にエアコンをつけ、少し厚めの掛布団を掛けてもらいました。年齢と共に暑さを感じるセンサーが弱まると噂には聞いておりましたが、実際に目の当たりにすると、こちらの頭がクラクラする思いでした。

 

このようなこともあるので、「熱中症アラート」などのような客観的な指数を示してくれるのはありがたいです。熱中症の危険性が極めて高くなると予想される日の前の日の１７時頃あるいは当日朝５時頃に発表されます。

昨年の４月より「熱中症アラート」の一段上の「熱中症特別警戒アラート」の運用が始まりました。暑さ指数は気温、湿度、風、日射などをもとに算出されます。

暑さ指数２８で熱中症患者が急増し、３３で熱中症アラートが発表され、３５で熱中症特別警戒アラートが発表されます。昨年の熱中症警戒アラートの発表は１７２２回で、熱中症特別警戒アラートの発表はありませんでした。昨年の猛暑で特別警戒アラートの発表がなかったのですから、もし今年発表されるようなことがあれば万全を期さなければなりません。

また特別警戒アラートが発表された場合には「クーリングシェルター」が解放されることになっています。公共や民間のエアコンのある施設を住民に開放することが定められ、図書館や商業施設など約１万２８６０か所がシェルターとして指定されていますので、堂々と利用させてもらいましょう。環境省が運営する「熱中症予防情報サイト」で市区町村のシェルターの情報が確認できるとのことです。

 

毎年耳にしている気もするのですが、今年の５月から７月は全国的に気温が平年並みか平年より高い見込みとされています。どうしても外出しないといけない場合は、手に凍らせたペットボトルなど冷たいものを持つなどできる限りの予防を心掛けたいものです。

 

最近ずっと頭から離れないのがエアコンの掃除でございまして、皆さまもうお済みでしょうか？掃除が行き届いていないと冷房効率も下がりますし、試運転もできませんので、そろそろやらねばと思うのですが、肩を上げ続けるのが辛く…ついつい先延ばしにしてしまいます。暑くなってからではエアコンの故障にもつながるようですので早めに済ませたいです。いや済ませます。

 

さて話は変わるのですが、本日４月２３日、日本では「子供読書の日」と定められ５月２３日までは「子供の読書週間」とされています。先日電車の中で立ったまま熱心に本を読んでいる小学生がおり、最近は本を読むより、ついついスマホに手が伸びてしまう自分を反省しました。以前は本屋さんが癒しの場所だったのですが、最近は足が遠のいております。今年の猛暑は涼しい室内で本を読みふけるのも一案かなと感じております。

 

４月２３日はユネスコが定める「世界本の日」でもあり、日にちの由来はスペインの伝統的な本を贈り合う行事の「サン・ジョルディの日」やイギリスの劇作家でもあり詩人でもあるシェークスピアの誕生日と命日だそうです。

誕生日と命日？と不思議に思い調べてみますと、シェークスピアの生まれは１５６４年４月２３日、命日は１６１６年４月２３日となっておりました。やはり只者ではない気がいたします。

The carp streamers displayed in front of the Fukosha store are very rare nowadays, but the children’s reactions are very funny. Some of them even take the trouble to get off their bicycles and look up at it. It has recently become a pleasure for me to watch them from inside the store.

 

It was rainy and cool in the morning, but today, April 23, the Japan Meteorological Agency and the Ministry of the Environment will start operating a “Heat Stroke Alert”. Although it may seem a little early, the “heat index,” which is the basis for the alert, is related not only to temperature but also to humidity, and high humidity suppresses sweating and makes it easier for heat to accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of heat stroke. Even on a rainy day, you cannot be too careful.

The number of people who die from heat stroke has been increasing every year, and 97,578 people were transported to hospitals last year. I was shocked to witness my parents sleeping with only an electric fan on a midsummer night. I was shocked to witness my parents sleeping with only a fan at night in the middle of summer. They said, “It’s not that hot, the air conditioner is too cold,” so I forced them to turn on the air conditioner and cover them with a slightly thicker comforter. Because of this, it is nice to have an objective index such as the “Heat Stroke Alert. This is announced around 5:00 p.m. on the day before or around 5:00 a.m. on the morning of the day when the risk of heat stroke is expected to be extremely high.

The “Heat Stroke Special Alert”, a higher level of “Heat Stroke Alert”, has been in operation since last April. The heat index is calculated based on temperature, humidity, wind, and solar radiation.

Heat stroke cases increase sharply at a heat index of 28, a Heat Stroke Alert is issued at 33, and a Heat Stroke Special Alert is issued at 35. Last year, 1,722 heat stroke alerts were issued and no special heat stroke alerts were issued. Since there were no Special Heat Illness Alerts issued during last year’s heat wave, we must take all possible precautions if one is issued this year.

In the event of a Special Alert, “cooling shelters” will be released. It is stipulated that public and private air-conditioned facilities will be opened to residents. About 12,860 places, including libraries and commercial facilities, have been designated as shelters, so please be proud to use them. They can check information on municipal shelters on the “Heat Stroke Prevention Information Website” operated by the Ministry of the Environment.

 

I feel like I hear this every year, but temperatures are expected to be normal or higher than normal throughout the country from May to July this year. If you must go out, you should take precautions as much as possible, such as carrying a frozen bottle of something cold in your hand.

 

One thing that has been on my mind recently is the cleaning of air conditioners. I think it’s time to do it, but it’s hard to keep lifting my shoulders… I keep putting it off. I want to get it done as soon as possible because it seems to lead to air conditioner breakdowns when it gets too hot. I’ll get it done.

 

Well, as the story goes, today, April 23rd, is designated as “Children’s Reading Day” in Japan, and until May 23rd, it is “Children’s Reading Week”. The other day on the train, I saw an elementary school student reading a book intently while standing still, and I reflected on my recent tendency to reach for my smartphone rather than reading a book. Bookstores used to be a place of relaxation for me, but lately I have been visiting them less and less. I feel that this year’s heat wave may be a good time for me to read a book indoors in a cool room.

 

April 23 is also the “World Book Day” designated by UNESCO. The origin of the day is said to be “San Jordi Day,” a traditional book-giving event in Spain, and the birthday and death anniversary of Shakespeare, an English playwright and poet.

Birthday and death anniversary? I wondered why, so I looked it up and found that Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, and the anniversary of his death was April 23, 1616. I knew he was not an ordinary person.

ただいま風光舎の店前には、可愛らしい「鯉のぼり」が気持ちよさそうに泳いでおります。道行く人々の注目を集めていますが、元気に泳ぐ様は、なぜだかずっと見ていられます。

 

 

鯉のぼりは、中国の話をもとにした故事成語「登竜門」が由来とされています。かつて中国の黄河に「竜門」と呼ばれる急流の激しい場所があり、下に群がる鯉の中でこの急流をのぼることができたものは、竜になるという伝説がありました。そこから登竜門は立身出世につながる難しい関門を通ること、また人生を左右するほどの重要な試験を通過することのたとえとされます。この「登竜門」にちなんだ日本の伝統文化が「鯉のぼり」です。

 

鯉のぼりの起源は中国ですが、日本だけの風習です。江戸時代、将軍に男の子が生まれると旗指物（家紋のついた旗）や幟（のぼり）を立てて祝う風習がありました。やがてこれが武家に広がり、男の子が生まれた印として幟を立てるようになり、その後、江戸庶民の間で鯉を幟にするアイデア がうまれ、武家の幟に対して、町人の間で鯉のぼりが上げられるようになりました。

 

また、ご存知の通り、家族を表している鯉は、色によって役割が決まっています。黒鯉が一家の大黒柱のお父さん、赤鯉がお母さん、青鯉がこどもと基本の鯉のぼりの数はこの3匹・3色です。新たに男の子の赤ちゃんが誕生した場合などは、更に下の鯉を付け足す場合もあるようです。現代では女の子をイメージしたオレンジやピンクの子鯉もあるようですね。

 

真鯉の上を泳ぐ5色の物体は「吹流し（吹き流し）」というもので、「子を脅かす悪いものから守ってください」という魔除けの意として付けられています。

吹流しには青、赤、黄、白、黒の五色が使われており、これは「神道の５色」と言われます。古代中国に伝わる「五行説」に基づいているとされ、「木・火・土・金・水」の５つの元素が互いに助け合ったり、打ち消し合ったりしながら、すべての物事が循環しているという思想を表しているそうです。

 

最近、この辺りではめっきり見かけなくなりました「鯉のぼり」を目印に、ぜひ風光舎へお立ち寄りください。

A lovely carp streamer is swimming in front of our store, attracting a lot of attention from passersby. It attracts a lot of attention from people on the street, and for some reason, we can’t stop looking at it as it swims along.

 

The carp streamer is said to have originated from the Chinese proverb “Long Dragon Gate,” which is based on a Chinese tale. Legend has it that there was once a place on the Yellow River in China called “Dragon’s Gate,” where the rapids were so fierce that any of the carp swarming below would become a dragon if they could climb up the rapids. The dragon gate is said to be a metaphor for passing through a difficult barrier that leads to success in life, or for passing an important test that can affect one’s life. The traditional Japanese culture associated with this “gateway to success” is the Koinobori, or carp streamer.

The carp streamer originated in China, but it is a custom unique to Japan. In the Edo period (1603-1867), when a boy was born to the shogun, there was a custom to celebrate by putting up a flag (a flag with a family crest on it) or a banner. Later, the idea of using carp as a banner arose among the common people of Edo, and the carp streamers were raised by the townspeople in contrast to the banners of the samurai class.

 

As you know, carp, which represent families, have specific roles depending on their colors. The black carp is for the father, the main pillar of the family, the red carp for the mother, and the blue carp for the children, and the basic number of carp streamers is these three carp streamers and three colors. When a new baby boy is born, a lower number of carp may be added. Nowadays, there are also orange and pink baby Koi carp for girls.

 

The five-colored objects swimming above the makoi are called “fukiyashi (blowing streamers),” and they are attached as an amulet to ward off evil spirits that may threaten the child.

The five colors used in fukiyashi are blue, red, yellow, white, and black, which are referred to as the “five colors of Shinto. It is said to be based on the ancient Chinese theory of the “five elements,” and represents the idea that the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) help and cancel each other out, and that all things are in a cycle.
