昨晩から冷え込んだ名古屋では、昨シーズンより31日早い初雪を観測し、冬の便りが届きました。

ようやく季節が暦に追いついたなと感じられるようになったところなのに、月日が経つのは早いもので、令和７年（2025年）も残すところあとわずかです。
残り少なくなったカレンダーは、いつの間にか予定で真っ黒に。うっかり風邪も引けないなと、気を引き締めるこの頃です。

年の瀬というものは、今年のうちに片づけてしまいたいこと、やっておきたいことが溜まりがちになります。その一つ一つをこなしていくのに忙しい年末ですが、新しい年に向けた準備をすることはちょっとワクワクする時間でもあります。

来年に向けた準備…色々あるかと思いますが、皆様は何か手を付けておられますか？
私は、ちょうど先日、来年のカレンダーを買ってきました。ここ数年は、「来年も元気でいてほしい」という気持ちを込めて、実家へもカレンダーを贈ることにしています。贈る際に、子どもたちの誕生日など、あらかじめ分かっている予定を書き込んで送るようにしたら、忘れなくてちょうどいいと喜ばれています。

以前は、さまざまなところからカレンダーをいただくことが多くありました。もはや年末年始の恒例行事と言っても過言ではないカレンダーの配布。あまりにも定番化していることもあって、そこまで気にはしていませんでしたが、よく考えてみれば、皆が足並みを揃えてカレンダーを小脇に抱えながら様々な取引先などへ渡し回るというこの習慣は独特なものに思えてきました。
実際、海外にはこのような習慣はほとんど無いようで、一部の外国の方からは「こんなにクオリティーの高いものをタダで配っているなんて！」という称賛の声もあるとか無いとか。

カレンダーを配るというこの習慣がいつから始まったのか、これについては「江戸時代に商人が年末の挨拶で使用した」「明治時代にとある呉服屋が始めた」「昭和に入り大阪のカレンダー会社が自社製品をアピールするために始めた」などなど諸説あるようですが、日本の年末の風物詩ですね。

いただきもののカレンダーは、残念ながら使用されないとそのまま廃棄されてしまうことも多く、環境への配慮などもあり「カレンダーを配る習慣を無くそう」という声から、最近ではその数も減ったように思います。飾るところがないなぁと申し訳なく思っていた私としては、ひとつ気がかりが減ってありがたい限りです。

新しいカレンダーを使うのは楽しみではありますが、何はともあれ、まずは残りの日々も健康に気を付けて、残り少ない今年のカレンダーに「今年もあと少し、よろしくね」という気持ちで、最後まで大切に使いきりたいと思います。

Nagoya recorded its first snowfall 31 days earlier than last season, bringing news of winter’s arrival.

Just as I began to feel the seasons finally catching up with the calendar, time has flown by, and only a little remains of Reiwa 7 (2025).
My dwindling calendar has suddenly filled with plans. These days, I find myself bracing myself, thinking I can’t afford to catch a cold.

The year’s end tends to pile up tasks we want to finish or things we want to get done before the year closes. While the busy year-end rush involves tackling each of these one by one, preparing for the new year is a time that feels a little exciting.

Preparations for the coming year… I imagine there are many things to consider. Have you started on any of yours yet?
I just bought my calendar for next year the other day. For the past few years, I’ve made it a point to send calendars to my parents’ house too, with the wish that they stay healthy next year. I’ve started filling in known events like the kids’ birthdays before sending them, and they’ve been happy with how easy it makes things.

In the past, I often received calendars from various places myself. Distributing calendars has practically become a standard year-end tradition. It’s so commonplace I didn’t think much of it, but upon reflection, this custom of everyone marching in lockstep, calendars tucked under their arms, visiting various business contacts to hand them out seems rather unique.
In fact, this custom seems almost nonexistent overseas. Some foreigners have reportedly praised it, saying things like, “How can you give away such high-quality items for free!”

As for when this calendar distribution custom began, there are various theories: “Merchants used them for year-end greetings in the Edo period,” “A certain kimono shop started it in the Meiji era,” or “A calendar company in Osaka began it in the Showa era to promote their products.”

Unfortunately, many received calendars end up discarded unused, and with growing environmental concerns, calls to “end the calendar distribution custom” have led to a noticeable decrease in recent years. As someone who always felt bad about not having space to display them, I’m truly grateful for this trend.

While I look forward to using a new calendar, first and foremost, I want to take care of my health for the remaining days. I plan to treasure and use up the last few pages of this year’s calendar with the feeling of “Just a little more to go this year, let’s make it count.”

先日、出張買取に伺ったお宅で、「こんなものも買い取ってもらえるのですね」というお声がありました。

お片付けなどをしていると、どのような品が査定してもらえるのか、なかなか判断が難しいですよね。

先日伺ったお宅では掛軸や茶碗などの査定をご希望で、拝見させていただいておりましたが、他にも引き出しなどから色々なものが出てくるので大変だとのことで、そちらも見せていただくことに。

箪笥に眠っていた「勲章」が買取可能だとお伝えすると、「これも買取してもらえるのですか？」と驚いていらっしゃいました。他にも何点か買取可能な品物があり、お客様にはかなり意外だったようです。

掛軸、茶碗、絵画といった分かりやすい骨董古美術品の他にも買取可能なお品もございますので、いくつかご紹介したいと思います。

１．勲章

瑞宝章、旭日章などの勲章などが一般的ですが、他にも希少性のある勲章が引出しに眠っているかもしれませんので、処分をお考えでしたら一度査定してもらうことをお勧めします。勲章がご本人のものではなくても買取可能です。

２，古い写真

戦前、戦中の古い写真は、これからの時代に残す戦争資料として貴重なものとされています。

状態が良くなくとも高い評価がつく可能性があります。

３，古地図、鳥瞰図

現在、様々な場面で古地図の価値が見直されております。

鳥瞰図（ちょうかんず）は平面図とは違い、鳥の目から見たような、斜め上空から立体的に見下ろしたように描かれた図です。

４，鉄道模型、鉄道グッズ

NゲージやHOゲージの鉄道模型や、行先版なども買取可能です。

天賞堂、トミックス、KATO,マイクロエースなどの定番メーカーなど、箱やケースがなくても買取に問題はございません。

５，カメラ

今はスマホで何でも撮影できる時代ですが、古いカメラでしか撮れない写真にも魅力があり、根強い人気があります。

The other day, during a home appraisal visit, a client remarked, “I didn’t realize you could buy things like this.”

When decluttering, it can be quite difficult to judge what items might be appraised, right?

While I was examining items like hanging scrolls and tea bowls as requested, the homeowner mentioned how overwhelming it was to find so many other things in drawers and elsewhere, so I agreed to take a look at those too.

When I told them the “medal” tucked away in a chest of drawers was eligible for purchase, they were surprised, asking, “You can buy this too?” There were several other items we could purchase, which seemed quite unexpected to the customer.

Beyond obvious antiques like hanging scrolls, tea bowls, and paintings, we can also purchase other items. Here are a few examples:

1. Medals
While medals like the Order of the Sacred Treasure or the Order of the Rising Sun are common, you might find rare medals tucked away in a drawer. If you discover any, we recommend having them appraised. We can purchase medals even if they weren’t awarded to the owner.

2. Old Photographs

Pre-war and wartime photographs are considered valuable historical materials for future generations.

Even if the condition isn’t perfect, they may still receive a high appraisal.

3. Old Maps, Bird’s-Eye Views

The value of old maps is being reevaluated in various contexts today.

Bird’s-eye views differ from flat maps; they depict scenes as seen from a bird’s eye, looking down diagonally from above in a three-dimensional perspective.

4. Model Trains and Railway Memorabilia

We purchase N-gauge and HO-gauge model trains, destination signs, and related items.

Even without boxes or cases, items from standard manufacturers like Tenshodo, Tomix, KATO, and Micro Ace are acceptable for purchase.

5. Cameras

While smartphones can capture almost anything today, photos taken with vintage cameras possess a unique charm and maintain enduring popularity.

先日の黄砂のため、家の窓が随分汚れていると気が付きまして。

12月に入ったことだし、そろそろ大掃除もどきでもはじめようか…などと思い始めましたのですが、みなさまは年末の大掃除はやる派？やらない派でしょうか。

かつての実家もそうだったのですが、掃除といえば1年を締めくくるのに不可欠な年末の行事くらいの勢いで、朝から家族総出で窓や床をピカピカに磨き、障子を張り替えて、最後はしめ飾りとお鏡餅を整えて清らかな新年を迎えるために精を出したものです。

時は移り、生活様式やお掃除グッズなどの変化に伴って掃除時間はグンと短縮され、今や「とくに大掃除はしない」という家庭も珍しくないのでしょうか。

それにしても大昔の縄文時代なんてたぶん大掃除なんてなかったでしょう。年末の大掃除なんていつから何により始まったのか気になってきたのですが、やはり大掃除は「煤払い」が原型のようでして、新年を迎えるために家を清める宗教的な行事のようでした。

宮中から始まり、江戸時代には12月13日が「煤納め」と定められ、江戸城での煤払いが庶民にも広まりました。また、現代でも神社仏閣などではこの日に煤払いの行事が残っています。当時の大掃除は「煤払い」が主で、掃除道具は主に棕櫚（しゅろ）や竹のほうきが使われ、ほうきは神聖なものとされていたようです。さらには掃除が終わると家の中で胴上げをする風習もあったそうで、それはそれは一大イベントだったようですね。

そういえば家の中で「ほうき」を使って大掃除なんて気付けばなくなっていましたが、大掃除を神事として一大イベントににしてしまうのもそれはそれで面白そうなので、（胴上げは無理としても）今年は大掃除の後に万歳三唱でもして億劫な大掃除を一大イベントごとにしてしまおうかな笑。ばんざーい。

The other day, I noticed my windows were quite dirty due to the yellow sand.

Since December has arrived, I started thinking maybe it’s time to begin something resembling a big cleaning… But are you all the type to do a year-end deep clean? Or not?

Back at my parents’ house, cleaning was treated like an essential year-end ritual to wrap up the year. The whole family would gather early in the morning, polishing windows and floors until they sparkled, replacing shoji paper, and finally arranging the New Year’s decorations and kagami mochi to welcome a pure new year.

Times have changed, and with shifts in lifestyles and cleaning tools, the time spent cleaning has drastically shortened. Nowadays, it’s probably not uncommon to find households that “don’t really do a big year-end cleaning.”

Even so, back in ancient Jomon times, there probably wasn’t any big cleaning at all. I started wondering when and why year-end cleaning began. It seems the original form was “soot sweeping,” a religious ritual to purify the home for the New Year.

It started at the imperial court, and by the Edo period, December 13th was designated as “soot-sweeping day.” The practice spread from Edo Castle to the common people. Even today, shrines and temples retain this soot-clearing ritual on that day. Back then, the main focus was “soot-clearing,” using brooms made of palm or bamboo, which were considered sacred. Furthermore, there was a custom of lifting people up in celebration inside the house after cleaning—it sounds like it was quite the major event.

Come to think of it, I haven’t used a broom for a big clean at home in ages. But turning the big clean into a major event, like a sacred ritual, sounds kind of fun. (Even if a human pyramid is out of the question), maybe this year after cleaning, I’ll shout “banzai” three times and turn this tedious chore into a big event! Haha. Banzai!
