本日は12月12日ですね。

突然どうしたのだ？と言われそうですが、今日は師走の恒例行事、日本漢字能力検定協会主催の「今年の漢字」の発表が午後2時より清水寺の奥の院の舞台にて発表されます。

 

 

 

 

午後2時に発表ということで個人的に今年の漢字を予想しているのですが、みなさまの予想はいかがでしょうか。

今一瞬「熊」だったらどうしよう…とちょっと思ってしまったのですが、今年一年を印象づける字ですのでなるべく印象のよい字であってほしいなとは思っていますがどうでしょうか。

 

さて、お気づきかと思いますがこの今年の漢字ですが、何度か同じ漢字が選ばれているようです。

オリンピック・パラリンピックが開催された2000年（平成12年）、2012年（平成24年）、2016年（平成28年）、2021年（令和3年）、2024年（令和6年）は「金」で同じ漢字となり、「金」の漢字は最多で5度選ばれています。また、災害の多かった2004年（平成16年）、2018年（平成30年）は「災」の字、増税が注目された2014年（平成26年）、2023年（令和5年）は「税」の字で同じ漢字となっていますが、今年一年の印象はいかに。

 

現在12時過ぎ。あと少し思い付く漢字を頭の中で並べてみたいと思いますが、頭で巡らしているうちに自分のことを含め、今年一年の振り返りをしていることに気づいたのですが、今年の漢字を思い巡らすということはそんな意味もある気がしてきました。

You might be wondering what’s suddenly gotten into me, but today marks the annual December tradition: the announcement of the “Kanji of the Year,” hosted by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation, will be made at 2:00 PM on the stage at Kiyomizu-dera Temple’s inner sanctuary.

 

Since it’s announced at 2 PM, I’ve been personally predicting this year’s kanji. What are your predictions?

For a moment, I thought, “What if it’s ‘bear’?”… But since it’s supposed to be a character that symbolizes the year, I really hope it’s a character with a positive impression. What do you think?

 

Now, as you may have noticed, this “Kanji of the Year” has selected the same character multiple times.

The character “金” (gold) was chosen for the years 2000 (Heisei 12), 2012 (Heisei 24), 2016 (Heisei 28), 2021 (Reiwa 3), and 2024 (Reiwa 6), all years when the Olympics and Paralympics were held. This makes “金” the most frequently selected character, chosen five times. Similarly, the character “災” (disaster) was chosen for the disaster-prone years 2004 (Heisei 16) and 2018 (Heisei 30), while the character “税” (tax) was selected for the years 2014 (Heisei 26) and 2023 (Reiwa 5), when tax increases were prominent. But what character best captures this past year?

 

It’s now past noon. I’d like to list a few more kanji that come to mind, but as I pondered, I realized I was reflecting on this past year—including my own experiences. This year’s kanji feels particularly meaningful in that sense.
