ここ名古屋、やっと快晴になり、行き来する人や車も慌ただしく渋滞に何度も遭遇しながら出勤いたしました。朝からそんな春の慌ただしさを感じておりますが、皆さまの地域の春の様子はいかがでしょうか。

 

さて、来月4月5,6,7日の「器と骨董展」開催にあたり、本日も器のお勉強しておりまして、本日は茶道具のお勉強をしようかなと思いたちました。少しお付き合いくださいませ。

 

 

ところで、ここ尾張名古屋は、抹茶を楽しむ習慣がひろく浸透した土地柄であることから「茶どころ名古屋」とも称されていることはご存知かと思いますが、それ故、瀬戸や常滑をはじめ、名古屋城内の御庭焼や城下町で様々な茶道具が制作されてきました。

なかでも楽焼は当地独自の個性がみられ、江戸時代後期の萩山焼や宗玄焼、豊楽焼などといった流れとなっていき、地元名古屋では八事窯の中村道年へと引き継がれ、今日に至っております。

 

八事窯の存在も気になりますが、まずは初代中村道年についてみていきましょう。

 

初代道年（明治９～昭和12年（1876～1937））、実は京都の南山城富野庄出身なのですが、全国各地で修行し京焼・楽焼はいうまでもなく高麗茶碗写し、染付などさまざまな種類の陶磁器の製法を身につけており、師事した作家は清水六兵衛（3年）・四代高橋道八（5年）・粟田口帯山（2年）・真清水蔵六（3年）などがおり、さまざまな師匠から学んだようであります。

 

その後、北陸地方、中国地方に渡り、舞子浜にて有栖川威仁親王のもとに滞在し楽焼を作陶し、東海地方、朝鮮半島から中国の窯業地に渡り、ここ名古屋に戻ったといいますが辿り着きます。そして名古屋では豊楽に立ち寄った後に知遇を得た森川如春庵から師定三代高松定一を紹介されます。

 

同氏の全面的な支援を得て八事南山に住居を提供され、登り窯や楽焼窯を築き作陶三昧の日々を送ったようであります。

作域は広く、色絵陶・楽焼・伊賀写し・三島・御本・刷毛目・伊羅保・染付・赤絵などの伝来の名品にせまる陶磁器を作っているのですが、ここに同氏の作った赤楽茶碗がありますので、少し触ってみますと、とても温かみのある赤に温かみのある肌感が手にすっぽりおさまります。また、いろいろな師匠からの教えもぎゅっとつまったお茶碗なのでしょう。

 

また、抹茶のあの緑が注がれた際の器の風景がよく似合うな…と想像を掻き立てられます。

それよりなによりお茶を一服いただきなるお茶碗であることは間違いないようです。

 

お茶碗の拝見の捉え方は難しいように思えますが、こんな捉え方でも許してもらえるでしょうか笑。

Hello everyone, this is Staff Y.

 

It has finally cleared up here in Nagoya, and I went to work while encountering many traffic jams with a flurry of people and cars coming and going. I am feeling the rush of spring from this morning, but how is spring in your area?

 

We are studying tableware today in preparation for the “Vessels and Antiques Exhibition” to be held on April 5, 6, and 7 next month. Today, I thought I would study tea utensils, so please bear with me for a moment.

 

By the way, as you may know, Owari-Nagoya is also known as “the tea capital of Nagoya” because the custom of enjoying powdered green tea has been widely spread here.

 

Raku ware, in particular, has its own unique local character, and it was passed on to Hagisan-yaki, Sogen-yaki, and Toyoraku-yaki in the late Edo period, and then to Nakamura Michitoshi of Yagogama in Nagoya, where it has remained to the present day.

 

While we are interested in the existence of Yagogama, let us first look at Nakamura Doten I.
Doten I (1876-1937) was actually born in Tominosho, Minamiyamashiro, Kyoto, but he trained in various places in Japan and acquired various ceramic techniques, including Kyo-yaki and Raku-yaki, as well as copies of Korai tea bowls and Sometsuke. He studied under various masters, including Shimizu Rokubei (3 years), Takahashi Michihachi IV (5 years), Awataguchi Obiyama (2 years), and Mashimizu Zoroku (3 years).

 

After that, he traveled to the Hokuriku and Chugoku regions, stayed at Maiko beach under Prince Takehito Arisugawa and made Raku ware, and then traveled to the Tokai region, Korean Peninsula, and Chinese ceramic areas before returning here to Nagoya, where he arrived. In Nagoya, he was introduced to Sadakazu Takamatsu III by Nyoshunan Morikawa, with whom he became acquainted after stopping at Houraku.

 

With his full support, he was provided with a residence in Yagoto Nanzan, where he built a climbing kiln and a Raku ware kiln and spent his days making pottery.

 

His range of work is wide, and he has produced ceramics that approach the traditional masterpieces such as Iroe ware, Raku ware, Iga copy, Mishima, Gohon, Hakeme, Iraho, Sometsuke, and Akae (red glaze). It is also a tea bowl that is filled with teachings from various masters.

 

Also, the scenery of the bowl when the green color of matcha tea is poured into it is very suitable……it stirs my imagination.

 

It seems to be a tea bowl that makes you want to have a cup of tea more than anything else.

 

It seems that it is difficult to understand how to look at a tea bowl, but I hope you will forgive me if I look at it this way, lol.
