こちら名古屋、桜の花もそろそろ終わりになってまいりました。

その花びらに隠れて準備を始めていた新緑が次の出番を待っていたかのように顔を出しはじめ、気が付くと至る所に薄っすらぼんやりした緑が木々を覆いはじめております。

この何とも言えない季節の変わり目の移ろいが、本当に好き。ことに春の移ろいは、様々な命の息吹を実感でき、毎年少しでも実感したいとこの時期、なんだか落ち着きがありません笑。

 

先日はその落ち着きのなさがいよいよ発動してしまい、その命の息吹をまさしく実感することのできる「桜」を見に行って参ました。

随分前から、生きてるうちに（大げさな…）絶対に行かねばと心にしたためておりました岐阜県本巣市の

「薄墨桜」でございます。

 

 

 

美しい名前ですね。この桜、岐阜県本巣市根尾地区の淡墨公園にある樹齢１５００年以上のエドヒガンザクラでありまして、国の特別天然記念物となっています。淡墨桜は蕾のときは薄いピンク、満開に至っては白色、散りぎわには特異の淡い墨色になり、淡墨桜の名はこの散りぎわの花びらの色にちなんでおります。樹高16.3m、幹囲目通り9.91m、枝張りは東西26.90m、南北20.20m。樹齢は1500余年と推定され、継体天皇のお手植えという伝承が。日本三大巨木のひとつではありますが、そんなことよりも枝を大きく張り圧倒的なその生命力と息吹を体感しに行きたいなとかねてからの夢でありました。

 

 

昨今の状況下もあったのですが、それよりも何よりもお隣岐阜県と申しましてもここ名古屋からでもなかなかのアクセスでありまして。「この時期のこのお天気の日にこの桜をみにいこう。」と、心に誓わねばなかなかたどり着けないところであります。いえいえ、ありました…。

 

とにもかくにもカメラマンの腕前ではこのさくらの大きさがうまく伝わららないことに、少々残念ではございますが、周りの人の大きさと比較しながら、まずは「薄墨桜」ご覧になってくださいませ。

 

 

 

 

その巨木の大きさや薄墨の花びらが散る様子などが想像できますでしょうか。うまく伝えるのは難しい…。

 

 

樹齢1500年ともなりますとこれまで幾度となく風雪などによる枯死のピンチにあうことも多々。そのたびに多くの人々による保護再生をうけ、なんとか再生復活。この桜の生命力の他に薄墨桜は人々の保護再生の歴史でもあり、作家の宇野千代さんがその保護を訴えたりとたくさん方々の桜への活動もよく知られておりますよね。

そんな思いをも1500年受け継ぎながら、今年も桜は枝を大きく張りめぐらし、薄墨の花びらを精一杯咲かせ満開。見事ですね。

 

 

先にも述べましたこの桜は、蕾の時は薄いピンク、満開にいたっては白色、散りぎわには独特の淡い墨色にであり、淡墨桜の名はこの散りぎわの花びらにちなんで呼ばれております。

その様子を継体天皇が皇子の頃、隠れて養育されていた岐阜県本巣より都へ帰る際にお世話になった住民に桜の苗木を植えて詠んだ歌がございますよ。

 

 

 

 

身 の 代と　遺す桜は　薄住よ　千代にその名を　栄盛へ　止むる
（みのしろと　のこすさくらは　うすずみよ　ちよにそのなを　さかえ　とどむる）

 

たぶん、私が昨日見てきました同じ桜の前に立ち同じ薄墨色を見て、継体天皇はこのように詠んでいるのでしょうが、当時より薄墨色が大変印象に残っていたのでしょう。そして、継承天皇の詠まれたように、この「薄墨桜」が、千代にその名を残していることを、なによりもこの桜はきっと驚いていることでしょう。

 

1500年を経て千代にその名を栄盛へととむるべくたくましく生き延びた巨木に、「これまで迎えた1500回の満開の景色はどうだった？」とこれまでの物語を尋ねてみたい思いでありました。

 

みなさま一度は、「薄墨桜見に行くぞ」と、気合を入れて訪れてみてくださいませ。

The fresh green, which had begun to prepare behind the petals, began to appear as if it was waiting for the next turn, and when I noticed it, the faint green was beginning to cover the trees.

I really like the transition of this indescribable season. Especially in the transition of spring, I can feel the breath of various lives, and at this time when I want to feel it even a little every year, I feel somewhat restless lol.

 

The other day, the restlessness was finally activated, and I went to see “Sakura” where you can really feel the breath of life.

For a long time, I had been thinking that I should definitely go while I was alive (exaggerated …) in Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture.

It is “Usuzumi Sakura”.

 

It’s a beautiful name. This cherry tree is an Edohigan cherry tree over 1500 years old in the Tansumi Park in the Neo district of Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture, and is a national special natural monument. The light pink cherry blossoms are light pink when they are buds, white when they are in full bloom, and have a peculiar light ink color when they are scattered. Tree height 16.3m, trunk enclosure street 9.91m, branching 26.90m east-west, 20.20m north-south. The age of the tree is estimated to be over 1500 years, and it is said that the Emperor Keitai planted it by hand. Although it is one of the three giant trees in Japan, it has been a dream since I wanted to experience its overwhelming vitality and breath with its branches larger than that.

 

 

 

There was a situation these days, but more than anything else, even if I say Gifu prefecture next door, it is quite accessible from here in Nagoya. It’s hard to reach if I have to swear to my heart, “Let’s go see this cherry blossom on this sunny day at this time.” No, there was …

 

Anyway, it’s a little disappointing that the size of this cherry tree is not transmitted well by the skill of the cameraman, but please take a look at “Usuzumi Sakura” first while comparing it with the size of the people around you. No.

 

Can you imagine the size of the giant tree and how the petals of light ink are scattered? It’s difficult to tell well …

 

When the tree is 1500 years old, it often encounters a pinch of death due to wind and snow. Every time, it was protected and regenerated by many people, and somehow it was revived. In addition to the vitality of this cherry blossom, Usuzumi Sakura is also a history of people’s protection and regeneration, and many people’s activities for cherry blossoms are well known, such as the writer Chiyo Uno appealing for its protection.

While inheriting such thoughts for 1500 years, the cherry blossoms have large branches and the petals of thin ink are in full bloom this year as well. It’s wonderful.

 

As mentioned earlier, this cherry blossom is light pink when it is a bud, white when it is in full bloom, and has a unique light ink color when it is scattered. We are here.

There is a song about the situation when Emperor Keitai planted cherry blossom saplings to the residents who were taken care of when he returned to the capital from Motosu, Gifu prefecture, where he was hidden and raised.

 

The body and the cherry blossoms that are left behind are thinly lived, and their name stops in Sakae in Chiyo.

Perhaps the Emperor Keitai wrote in this way when he stood in front of the same cherry blossoms that I saw yesterday and saw the same light ink color, but the light ink color was very impressive from that time. And, as the Emperor of Japan wrote, this “Usuzumi Sakura” has left its name in Chiyo, and above all, this cherry tree will surely be surprised.

 

I would like to ask the story of the giant tree, which survived 1500 years later to make its name prosperous, asking, “How was the view of the 1500 full blooms you have received so far?” was.
