先日知ったのですが、最近の花火大会では点火がコンピューター制御されているところが増えているとのこと。昔と違い音楽に合わせた演出が増えたことも理由に挙げられています。打ち上げのタイミングを１/３０秒単位でコントロールできる制御システムもあるのだとか。よく考えると手作業でそれらをコントロールするのは神業ともいえます。

コンピューターによる制御は一見効率的に思えますが、打ち上げるタイミングのプログラミングなど、準備には従来の花火大会の３倍の時間がかかるのだとか。確かに最近の花火はまるでミュージカルを見ているかのように感じることもあります。未だに職人が点火しているイメージを持っていた私はかなり時代に取り残されていたということでしょう。

夜空を彩る大輪の花火も魅力的ですが、日本人にとって夏の花火といえばやはり手持ち花火ではないでしょうか。海外では安全を考慮して手持ち花火が禁止されている国が多いそうです。そのため日本を旅行中に手持ち花火を楽しむ外国人も多いのだとか。特に線香花火は「Japanese Sparklers」とも呼ばれ日本ならではの伝統的な手持ち花火として知られています。

子供の頃、様々な手持ち花火を楽しんだ後、最後は線香花火で終わるというのが暗黙の了解でした。繊細な線香花火は静かに持っていないと火球が落ちてしまうため緊張して持つ手が震えることもあったような…。線香花火となると皆急に神妙な面持ちになったものですが、実際のところ誰が最後まで火球を落とさないか、と密かに競い合ってもいました。

線香花火は江戸時代に玩具花火として開発され、当初はワラの先端に火薬を付け、線香を立てる香炉などにさして楽しんだことから「線香花火」と呼ばれるようになったとか。その後関東ではワラの代わりに紙で作られうようになり、今でもその名残りで西日本では棒状、東日本では紙製の線香花火が多いとのこと。

次々と変化する火花は順番に「つぼみ」「牡丹」「松葉」「散り菊」、となんとも情緒あふれる呼び名がつけられています。

日本人ならこの名前を聞くと線香花火の火花が順番に浮かぶのではないでしょうか。私はてっきり、この順番で火花が散るように仕込まれているのだと思っていましたが、なんとこの火花が変化する原理は未だ完全には解明されていないのだそうです。研究者による様々な仮説があるようですが、難しい化学反応式が並び、私の理解の範囲を超えております。

かなり省略させていただきますと、線香花火に使われる黒色火薬の主成分である硝酸カリウム、炭素、硫黄が反応し、温度が約８５０℃にまで上昇すると火球が形成されます。さらに火球の表面にはCO2の気泡が多数あらわれ、これらがシャンパンの泡がはじけるようにパチパチと音を出しながら火花として飛び出します。実は火花というよりも「液滴」なのだそうです。そういえば子どもの頃、火球が丸く形成されていくのを見ていると、ゆらゆらと震える様子がまるでマグマのようだなと感じておりました。この繰り返し飛び散る液滴の軌跡が美しい火花として目に映っているのです。

これまで身近に楽しんでいたものが、こんなにも神秘のベールに包まれていたとは驚きです。

そんな日本伝統の花火ですが、低価格の外国産に押され一時は国産の線香花火づくりが途絶えた時期もあったのだとか。そこで東京の玩具問屋である山縣商店さんが、職人が一本一本手作業で作る国産線香花火を復活させています。少々高額ですが、その閃光を一度は見てみたいとういう衝動に駆られます。

ちなみに線香花火は呼吸しているため、時間を置くと硝石、硫黄、松煙がなじみ火花がより美しくなるのだそうです。使い残しの線香花火を見つけたら、試しに点火してみてはどうでしょうか。思いのほか美しい火花を見せてくれるかもしれません。

I recently learned that more and more fireworks displays are now computer-controlled. One reason for this is that, unlike in the past, there are now more performances synchronized to music. There are even control systems that can control the timing of the launch to 1/30th of a second. When you think about it, controlling all of that by hand would be nothing short of a miracle.

While computer-controlled ignition may seem efficient at first glance, preparing for it—such as programming the launch timing—apparently takes three times as long as traditional fireworks festivals. Indeed, recent fireworks displays sometimes feel like watching a musical. I suppose I was quite behind the times, still holding onto the image of craftsmen manually igniting the fireworks.

While large fireworks that illuminate the night sky are also charming, for Japanese people, summer fireworks are still synonymous with handheld fireworks. Apparently, many countries overseas ban handheld fireworks for safety reasons. As a result, many foreign tourists enjoy handheld fireworks while traveling in Japan. In particular, incense stick fireworks are known as “Japanese Sparklers” and are recognized as a traditional Japanese handheld firework.

When I was a child, it was an unspoken rule that after enjoying various types of handheld fireworks, we would end with incense stick fireworks. The delicate incense stick fireworks had to be held quietly, or the fireball would fall, so my hands would tremble with tension. When it came to incense stick fireworks, everyone suddenly became solemn, but in reality, we were secretly competing to see who could keep the fireball from falling until the end.

Incense stick fireworks were developed as toy fireworks during the Edo period. Initially, gunpowder was attached to the tip of straw, which was then inserted into incense burners to enjoy the fireworks, hence the name “incense stick fireworks.” Later, in the Kanto region, paper replaced straw, and even today, this tradition continues, with stick-shaped incense stick fireworks being more common in western Japan and paper-made ones in eastern Japan.

The ever-changing sparks are named in order as “bud,” “peony,” “pine needles,” and “falling chrysanthemums,” evoking a sense of nostalgia.

If you’re Japanese, hearing these names might make you picture the sparks of incense stick fireworks in sequence. I had always assumed that the sparks were designed to scatter in that order, but apparently, the principle behind how the sparks change is still not fully understood. There are various hypotheses from researchers, but the complex chemical reactions involved are beyond my understanding.

To put it simply, the main components of black powder used in incense stick fireworks—potassium nitrate, carbon, and sulfur—react, causing the temperature to rise to approximately 850°C, forming a fireball. On the surface of the fireball, numerous CO2 bubbles appear, which pop like champagne bubbles, creating the sparkle. Interestingly, these are actually “droplets” rather than sparks. Come to think of it, when I was a child, watching the fireball form into a sphere, I felt that its trembling appearance was like magma. The repeated scattering of these droplets creates the beautiful sparks we see.

It’s surprising that something I’ve enjoyed so closely was shrouded in such mystery.

Such is the traditional Japanese firework, but at one point, domestic incense stick fireworks production came to a halt due to competition from low-cost foreign imports. However, Yamagata Shouten, a toy wholesaler in Tokyo, has revived domestically produced incense stick fireworks, which are handmade one by one by skilled craftsmen. Though they are somewhat expensive, the urge to witness their dazzling display is irresistible.

By the way, incense fireworks “breathe,” so over time, the potassium nitrate, sulfur, and pine soot blend together, making the sparks even more beautiful. Leftover incense fireworks might just surprise you with their stunning sparks.

今日も暑いですね…。

今日は40度越え予想の地域も結構あるようでして、もう外にでることも憚れます。そのせいでしょうか、スタッフＹ、今年はあまりにも外に出ないせいで例年より逆に日焼けしてないなと感じでいます。

本日はですね、この酷暑において私がここ最近「これはいい」と思ったくだらないつぶやきをしていきたいと思います。

さきほど申したように不外出により今年は日焼けは気にならないものの、やはり紫外線はきつい。そこで自分にとってはハードルの高かった度付サングラスを思い切って作ったのですがこれがあまりにも調子がいいことに感動しました。今周りの方にも絶賛おススメをしているのですが、みんな「買ってよかった」と言われてます。そしてみんなで結構目を酷使していることに皆で気づくという。ですが、如何せんぱっとしないおばさん（自分の場合）がサングラスをかけるのは見た目は確かにあんまり。ですが、かけている側はすこぶる調子がいいので「どーよ…」と思われましても、どうかそっとしててください笑。

さらに少しでも涼しいつぶやきにしてみたいのですが、やはり酷暑を乗り切る冷たい食べ物でしょうか。実は、最近新たなメニュー笑？を発見をしました、というか気づきました。

それは冷や汁。冷たいお味噌汁ともいいましょうか、なぜ「気がついた」のかといいますと（ここからはちょっとひかれてしまいそうですが、エコともいえるのか）、先日の朝、あまりにも食欲がなかったのでどうしようかと思って冷蔵庫を開けてしばらく佇んでいたいたところ、昨日の残っていたお味噌汁が。暑いので「えーいそのまま冷たいまま食べよう」と実食したところ、これがけっこう自分的にはイケてまして。それからここ最近は朝の冷たいお味噌汁にハマっています。食欲のない方、一度お試しください。ポイントは冷蔵庫でキンキンに冷やすことです笑。

こんなふうに、この酷暑から生活様式や身の回りのことなどの変化が年々顕著になってきていることに自分も気づきます。こんな一市民が地球にやさしいことはできないものか…などと大それたことを思ってもみますが、まずは己の体調を崩さないことに気をとられがち。ですがこれも大事。

t’s hot again today…

It is expected to be over 40 degrees Celsius in some areas today, and I am afraid to go outside. Maybe that’s why Staff Y feels that he hasn’t been sunburned as much as usual this year because he hasn’t been outside as much as usual.

Today, I would like to share with you a trivial tweet that I have recently thought “this is a good idea” in this extremely hot summer.

As I mentioned earlier, I don’t mind getting a sunburn this year due to not going outside, but the ultraviolet rays are still too much. So I took the plunge and got myself a pair of sunglasses, which were a hurdle for me, and I am very impressed with how well they work. I am now recommending them to everyone around me, and they all say they are glad they bought them. And we all realize that we all abuse our eyes quite a bit. However, it is true that it does not look good for a plain old lady (in my case) to wear sunglasses. However, the person who wears them is in great shape, so even if you think, “What the heck…,” please leave me alone.

I would like to make a cooler tweet, but I think it should be about cold food to get over the extreme heat. In fact, I have recently discovered a new menu item. I have recently discovered, or rather noticed, a new menu item.

It is cold soup. The reason why I “noticed” it is because the other morning, I had no appetite, so I opened the refrigerator and stood there for a while, wondering what to do, when I found yesterday’s leftover miso soup. I opened the fridge and was standing there for a while, wondering what to do because I didn’t have much appetite. It was hot, so I decided to eat it cold, and found that it was quite good for me. I have been addicted to cold miso soup in the morning recently. If you have a poor appetite, please give it a try. The key is to cool it down in the refrigerator.

I find myself making noticeable changes in my lifestyle and surroundings from year to year due to this extreme heat. I think that I can do something earth-friendly as a citizen, but I tend to be preoccupied with keeping myself in good physical condition. But this is also important.

今朝の通勤途中、前からカラフルなものが走ってくると思っていましたら、タイなどの東南アジアでよく見かける三輪タクシーの「トゥクトゥク」でした。運転手も乗っているお客さんも外国の方のように見えましたが、皆さんニコニコと楽しそうでした。ナンバープレートを取得すれば日本でも公道を走れるのだそうです。

風を受けながら疾走するトゥクトゥク、一度は乗ってみたいと思っていましたが、名古屋でも乗れるとは！本当はタイに行きたいところですが、日本で体験するのもいいかもしれません。今は珍しいのでかなり人目を引くとは思いますが。

以前ブログでも書きましたが、最近は人生で一度は体験したいと思うことが増えました。「迷ったらとりあえずやってみる」精神を心掛けています。先日も相撲好きの友人に大相撲観戦に誘われ、今までなら「そこまで相撲に詳しくないし…」などと考えて二の足を踏むところですが、「人生で一度」モードに入っていますので二つ返事でお誘いを受けました。

７月２７日に終了した名古屋場所は新設された「愛知国際アリーナ」、通称「IGアリーナ」で行われました。イギリスの金融サービスIGグループが１０年間を期限とした命名権を取得したとのことです。最大収容人数は１万７０００人、天井の高さは３０mというアジア地域で最大規模の多目的アリーナとなっています。他の相撲会場に比べ天井があまりにも高いので慣れない緊張や違和感があると感じた力士もいたようです。

地下鉄の名城公園駅とも直結していてとても便利な立地となっています。

昼過ぎに会場に入ったのですが既にお土産売り場などは賑わっており、ちゃんこなどの飲食の販売や特設写真コーナーも設置され、まるでコンサート前のような雰囲気でした。友人も推しの力士のタオルを２枚購入しておりました。

会場は私が想像以上していた以上に熱く盛り上がり、推しのタオルを掲げた人たちの声援が響き渡っていました。春場所で優勝を果たし、横綱に昇進した大の里が４０歳の玉鷲に負けた時は座布団が激しく飛び交いうことに。テレビでは見たことがありましたが、「座布団は投げないでください」という事前の放送にも関わらず、大量の座布団が投げ込まれることに驚きました。ルールに従順だとされる日本人も相撲となると熱くなってしまうのでしょうか。

それにしても４０歳、大ベテランの玉鷲の土俵際のふんばりには感動しました。名古屋場所では１１勝４敗の好成績を残し殊勲賞を最年長記録で受賞。若い力士と闘うのが楽しいのだそうです。すっかりファンになってしまいました。

他にも目を奪われたのが土俵入りの際の豪華な化粧まわし。力士の好みや出身地にちなんだデザインが西陣織や博多織で金糸銀糸などを使って刺繍されています。大変豪華なのですが、時にはドンキホーテのキャラクター「ドンペン」の柄などもあり、自由度が高いのです。かつては「キン肉マン」や「くまモン」「北斗の拳」「鉄腕アトム」などのデザインもあったそう。値段は１００万円から数千万円するものもあり、過去にはダイヤモンドが織り込まれた１億円超えの化粧まわしもあったのだとか。

化粧まわしは土俵入りで使用するために作られたものだと思っていましたが、昔は土俵入りをする時も相撲を取る時も同じまわしを使っていたのだそうです。まわしの豪華さを競ううちに、手が絡むなど取組の邪魔になるようになったため江戸時代の宝暦年間（１７５１年から１７６４年）の頃に、土俵入り専用のまわしとして化粧まわしが作られるようになりました。それにより化粧まわしは更に長く豪華なものになっていきます。

当時相撲に熱狂していた「タニマチ」と呼ばれる大名たちが、ひいきにする力士を召し抱え、勝利したご褒美に美しい「まわし」を贈るようになります。力士の勝利は大名の知名度アップにもつながり、力士は藩の広告塔の役目も果たしていたと考えられています。

そんなカラフルな化粧まわしが並ぶなか注目を集めたのが、尊富士の真っ黒なデザインの化粧まわしです。よく見ると八咫烏（やたがらす）がデザインされているのだそうですが遠目に見ると真っ黒。それが渋くてかっこいいと相撲ファンの間では有名になったのだとか。土俵入りはさながら化粧まわしの品評会のようでもあります。

その華やかさと力士たちの迫力ある取組が相撲ファンを魅了し続けるのでしょうね。

On my way to work this morning, I saw something colorful coming toward me, and it turned out to be a tuk-tuk, a three-wheeled taxi commonly seen in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand. The driver and passengers appeared to be foreigners, but they all looked happy and smiling. Apparently, if you obtain a license plate, you can drive them on public roads in Japan.

Riding a tuk-tuk as it speeds along in the wind—I’ve always wanted to try it, but I didn’t know you could ride one in Nagoya! I’d really like to go to Thailand someday, but experiencing it in Japan might be nice too. It’s still pretty rare, so I’m sure it attracts a lot of attention.

As I mentioned in a previous blog post, lately I’ve been thinking more about things I want to experience at least once in my life. I try to keep in mind the spirit of “if you’re unsure, just give it a try.” Recently, a friend who loves sumo wrestling invited me to watch a sumo match. In the past, I might have hesitated, thinking, “I’m not that familiar with sumo…” but now that I’m in “once in a lifetime” mode, I accepted the invitation without hesitation.

The Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament, which ended on July 27, was held at the newly constructed Aichi International Arena, also known as the IG Arena. The British financial services group IG Group has acquired the naming rights for a period of 10 years. With a maximum capacity of 17,000 people and a ceiling height of 30 meters, it is the largest multi-purpose arena in the Asian region. Some sumo wrestlers reportedly felt a sense of tension or discomfort due to the unusually high ceiling compared to other sumo venues.

The venue is conveniently located directly connected to Meijo Park Station on the subway line.

When I entered the venue around noon, the souvenir shops were already bustling, and there were food stalls selling chanko (sumo wrestlers’ stew) and a special photo corner, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a concert. My friend also purchased two towels featuring their favorite wrestler.

The venue was even more lively than I had imagined, with cheers echoing from the crowd holding their favorite wrestlers’ towels. When Ono, who had won the Spring Tournament and been promoted to yokozuna, lost to 40-year-old Tamawashi, cushions flew wildly. I had seen this on TV before, but I was surprised to see so many cushions being thrown despite the prior announcement saying, “Please do not throw cushions.” Even the Japanese, who are said to be rule-abiding, seem to get heated up when it comes to sumo.

Still, I was deeply moved by the determination of 40-year-old veteran Tamawashi at the edge of the ring. He achieved an impressive record of 11 wins and 4 losses at the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament and won the Outstanding Performance Award at the oldest age ever. He says he enjoys competing against younger wrestlers. I’ve become a big fan.

Another thing that caught my eye was the luxurious ceremonial sash worn during the ring entrance. The designs, which reflect the wrestler’s preferences or hometown, are embroidered using gold and silver threads on Nishijin or Hakata textiles. While they are extremely luxurious, there are also designs featuring characters like Don Quixote’s “Donpen,” showcasing a high degree of creativity. In the past, there were also designs featuring “Kinnikuman,” “Kumamon,” “Fist of the North Star,” and “Astro Boy.” Prices range from 1 million yen to several million yen, and there was even a decorative mawashi woven with diamonds that cost over 100 million yen in the past.

I thought the decorative mawashi was created specifically for ring entrances, but apparently, in the past, the same mawashi was used for both ring entrances and sumo matches. As the competition for the grandeur of the mawashi intensified, it began to interfere with matches, such as causing hands to get tangled. Therefore, during the Hōreki era (1751–1764), decorative mawashi were created specifically for ring entrances. As a result, decorative mawashi became even longer and more luxurious.

At the time, feudal lords known as “tanimachi,” who were passionate about sumo, would sponsor their favorite wrestlers and reward them with beautiful mawashi for their victories. A wrestler’s victory also contributed to the feudal lord’s popularity, and wrestlers are said to have served as advertising icons for their domains.

Among the colorful decorative mawashi, the one that caught everyone’s attention was the all-black design worn by Sonofuji. Upon closer inspection, it is said to feature the design of the Yatagarasu (Eight-legged Crow), and it is famous among sumo fans for its stylish and cool appearance. The ring entrance ceremony is akin to a parade showcasing the decorative mawashi.

The vibrant colors and the powerful matches of the wrestlers continue to captivate sumo fans.

今日の予想最高気温は沖縄33度、名古屋は40度です。

全国的に猛暑が続く中、実は沖縄は意外と涼しい顔をしていました。数字だけ見るとうらやましいと思ってしまいます。

そもそも「沖縄が一番暑いはず」と思われているのは、沖縄の緯度が日本国内では最も低く、赤道に近いという理由から。赤道付近は地球の真ん中にあるので、太陽の光を一年中たくさん浴びることになります。そのために暑いのはなんとなく理解できる話ですが、夏に限ってはそうでもないようですね。

四方を海に囲まれた沖縄では、海風が常に陸地へ吹き込むため、陸地が適度に冷やされます。昼間は日光を受けてギラギラと暑くても、夜になると涼しくなるのは地面の温度がそれほど上がっていないためです。反対に、内陸の平野部では逆の現象となっているようです。

そして、今日の名古屋、日向の暑さが尋常じゃありません。酷暑とはまさにこのこと。焦げます…。
でも、今年の夏は、例年に比べ湿度は低い気がするのですが、名古屋のみなさまいかがでしょうか。

日陰なら風が吹けばなんとか耐えられる…というわけで積極的に日陰に入りましょう。

こう暑くなると、体感温度を下げるべく、本能的に冷たいものが食べたくなってきます。
冷たいものといえば、アイスクリーム？それとも、かき氷でしょうか。
皆さまは今日どちらを食べたいですか？

どちらが食べたいかは、気温が目安になると言われています。

ある店舗で実施した、気温とかき氷・アイスクリームの売れ行きの調査では、かき氷は最高気温30℃で売り上げが急増し、32℃を境にアイスクリームの販売数と逆転したのだそうです。気温が上がれば冷たい商品全てが売れるというわけでは無い、というのが面白いところですね。

アイスクリームは気温が25度を超えると急激に販売数を伸ばしますが、32度を超えるとあまり売れなくなり、売れ筋はかき氷へシフトするそうです。

確かにあまりにも暑いとアイスクリームではなくかき氷が食べたくなる気がします。実は、あまりにも気温が高くなると人間の基礎代謝が落ちてしまうため、熱を抑えるために低カロリー・低脂肪の食品を摂ろうとする生理的欲求が理由のようです。

ところで、かき氷やアイスクリームを食べるときにキーンと頭が痛くなることがあると思いますが、天然氷のかき氷を食べるとき、頭痛が起きにくいこと、知っていましたか？

この理由は、いくつかあるとされていますが、時間をかけて氷が作られるため、硬い氷になり削る際に温度を上げる必要があることや、フワフワに削ることで口どけが良いためなどが考えられています。

最近ではフワフワのかき氷専門店が増えていますよね。

洋風なティラミス味のかき氷だったり、フルーツがたくさんのったかき氷もあります。とても美味しいのですが、どこのお店も量が多いのが私には難点。もう少し小さくていいんです…。

この専門店のようなフワフワのかき氷、実はおうちでも作る方法があるんです。
今回は、手動で削るタイプのかき氷機のレシピと科学の力を使うレシピの2種類をご紹介します。

＜手動で削るタイプのかき氷機のレシピ＞
ポイント： 氷をゆっくりと作ること
① 専用のカップで氷を作るときにタオルなどをグルグルにまく
② 氷ができたら、すぐに削らず室温で氷が少し溶け始めるまで待つ

ポイント：砂糖を入れることでゆっくりと凍らせる
① 水200ccに対し大さじ3の砂糖を溶かす（砂糖を使うことで普段より柔らかな氷になります）
② 粗熱をとったら保存容器などに入れて凍らす
③ かき氷機で氷を削る
④ 氷自体が甘いためシロップはいつもより少なめがおすすめです

お子さんやお孫さんと一緒に、自分好みの「自家製かき氷」作ってみるのも楽しいかもしれませんよ。

The reason why people think that Okinawa should be the hottest place in Japan is because Okinawa has the lowest latitude in Japan and is close to the equator. Since the equator is in the middle of the earth, it is exposed to a lot of sunlight all year round. It is somewhat understandable that it is hot for this reason, but not so much in summer.

In Okinawa, surrounded by the sea on all sides, sea breezes constantly blow into the land, which cools the land moderately. Even though it is scorching hot in the daytime, it becomes cooler at night because the ground temperature is not so high. On the other hand, the opposite seems to be true in the inland plains.

And today in Nagoya, the heat in the sun is extraordinary. Extreme heat is exactly what it means. It is scorching.

But this summer seems to be less humid than usual, how about you people in Nagoya?

When it gets hot like this, we instinctively want to eat something cold to lower our body temperature.

Speaking of cold food, ice cream? Or shaved ice?

Which do you want to eat today?

It is said that the temperature is a good indicator of which you want to eat.

According to a survey conducted at a certain store on the sales of shaved ice and ice cream in relation to temperature, sales of shaved ice surged when the temperature reached a maximum of 30°C (86°F), and the number of shaved ice sales reversed to ice cream sales when the temperature reached 32°C (86°F). It is interesting to note that not all cold products sell as the temperature rises.

Ice cream sales increase rapidly when the temperature exceeds 25°C (77°F), but sales drop off when the temperature exceeds 32°C (86°F), and the hot seller shifts to shaved ice.

It is true that when it is too hot, I feel like eating shaved ice instead of ice cream. In fact, the reason seems to be a physiological desire to consume low-calorie and low-fat foods to suppress heat, since human basal metabolism drops when the temperature becomes too high.

By the way, did you know that when you eat shaved ice or ice cream, you may get a keen headache, but when you eat shaved ice made of natural ice, you are less likely to get a headache?

There are several reasons for this. One is that the ice is made over a longer period of time, so it becomes harder and requires a higher temperature when it is shaved, and the fluffiness of the shaved ice makes it more pleasant to the palate.

Recently, the number of stores specializing in fluffy shaved ice has been increasing.

Some of them are Western-style tiramisu-flavored shaved ice or shaved ice with lots of fruit on top. It is very tasty, but the problem for me is that all the stores have a lot of it. It could be a little smaller….

There is actually a way to make this fluffy shaved ice at home, just like at specialty stores.

In this article, we will introduce two types of recipes, one for a manual shaved ice machine and the other for a shaved ice machine that uses the power of science. (Children who use a shaved ice machine should definitely ask an adult to do it for them.)

<Recipe for manually shaved shaved ice machine>
Point: Make ice slowly
① When making ice in the special cup, wrap a towel around the ice
② When ice is made, do not shave immediately but wait until the ice begins to melt slightly at room temperature
③ When shaving ice, turn the bowl while shaving (be careful as it easily melts at hand temperature)
④ Pour your favorite (4) Pour your favorite syrup over the ice.

<Recipe using the power of science>
Key point: adding sugar makes the ice freeze more slowly
① Dissolve 3 tablespoons of sugar in 200cc of water (the sugar makes the ice softer than usual)
② Remove from heat and freeze in a storage container
③ Shave ice using a shaved ice machine

「このところの暑さで…」などと暑さが枕詞になってずいぶん経っているように思われますが、まだ8月に入ったばかり…。今日は名古屋が一番暑いそうです。予想最高気温は40度…昼間に外出される方はどうかご安全に。

昨日のブログではないですが、昼がダメなら、夜があるじゃないかと言わんばかりに、ここ数年夜の公園で外遊びをしている子ども達をたくさん見かけるようになりました（もちろん親御さんもいらっしゃいますよ）。

結構な時間に遊んでいる子どもを見かけると、要らぬ老婆心ながら、体内時計が狂ってしまわないかと心配になってしまいます。しかし、子どものスタミナは無尽蔵。外遊びナシの日は元気が有り余ってなかなか夜寝てくれないなんてことはよく聞く話です。ここ最近の暑さでは外遊びも危険ですので、日が落ちてからの外遊びが、これからのスタンダードになっていくのかもしれませんね。

子育て真っ只中の時には、「うちの子…体力ありすぎて半端ない。」「こっちがキツくてついていけん！笑」などと思ったものです。

子供たちはたくさん動いて走って遊ぶことで、脳を成長させ、体を鍛えていると言われています。また遊びの中から様々なことを失敗しながら、学んでいます。大人は筋トレしなきゃ～となるところが、子どもはたくさん遊びまわることで筋トレになるといいます。

ですが、大人は疲労困憊。「どんだけ遊ぶんだよ」となっちゃいますよね。親だって暇じゃない（笑）

ところが、子どもの体力は無限です。スタミナもありまくりです。

それが切れだすと…何かを食べようとします。
そして食べたらまた動きます（笑）残念ながらその繰り返しなのですよね…。

どうして、子どもはずっと遊び続けることができるのか？小さな体にどれだけの体力が詰まっているのか？それとも疲れにくい体をしているのか？　体が小さい分、消費されるエネルギーが少ないので疲労も少なかったりするのか？子を持つ親なら一度は不思議に思うことかもしれません。

これについて、フランスのオーヴェルニュ大学の研究によると、子供と一般人とアスリートを調べた結果、子供の無尽蔵の体力の正体は、「回復速度」にあるとのこと。

詳しい研究手法のご説明は省きますが、調査の結果、なんと、子供の疲労回復の速度はアスリートを上回っているのだそう。子供は疲れない筋肉を持っているだけでなく、高負荷の運動後もとんでもなく速く回復することができ、それは、十分トレーニングした耐久スポーツアスリートより回復が速いのだそう。

これこそが、子供が無限に遊べる正体だったのですね。

子供は疲れても、すぐに復活します。それこそ、不死鳥の如く（笑）。

大人からすると、無限にあるように感じる子どもの体力ですが、実際は子供の体力は尽きていて、休憩して速効で回復していたようです。スマホの急速充電もびっくりな速度で体力が回復するといったところでしょうか。

ちなみに、大人が子供の遊びについていけないのは、子どもの回復速度とは別に、大人が普段運動をしていないことも大きな理由とのこと。普段運動をしていないと疲労度は強くなり、疲労から回復する速度も遅くなるのだそう。子どもと楽しく遊びたければ、普段から運動をして体力をつけないといけないということですね。

とはいえ、子供の体力（回復力）はバケモノと言って差し支えないですね。

This is not yesterday’s blog, but as if to say, if daytime is not good enough, there is always nighttime.

When I see children playing at night, I worry, even as an old woman, that their body clocks might go crazy. However, children’s stamina is inexhaustible. It is often heard that on days when they do not play outside, they have so much energy that they have a hard time falling asleep at night. Since it is dangerous to play outside in the recent heat, playing outside after the sun goes down may become the standard from now on.

When I was in the midst of raising my children, I would often hear people say, “My child…he has so much energy, it’s half the battle.” I thought, “This one is too hard to keep up with! LOL” and so on.

It is said that children grow their brains and strengthen their bodies by moving, running, and playing a lot. They also learn various things through play, making mistakes. Adults have to train their muscles, but children train their muscles by playing around a lot.

But the adults are exhausted. Parents don’t have time either (laughs). Parents don’t have time either (laughs).

Children, on the other hand, have unlimited physical strength. They have stamina.

When they start to run out of stamina, they try to eat something.

And after they eat, they move again (laughs). Unfortunately, it is a repetitive process….

How can a child keep playing all the time? How much physical strength is packed into their little bodies? Or do they have a body that does not tire easily?　Does their small size mean that they consume less energy and are therefore less fatigued? Parents of children may wonder at least once.

According to a study conducted by the University of Auvergne, France, which examined children, ordinary people, and athletes, the true reason for the inexhaustible physical strength of children lies in their “recovery speed.

I will not explain the detailed research methodology, but the results of the study show that, to the surprise of many, the speed of recovery from fatigue in children exceeds that of athletes. Not only do children have muscles that never tire, but they can recover ridiculously fast after high-impact exercise, faster than well-trained endurance sports athletes.

This was the very reason why children can play endlessly.

Even when children get tired, they recover quickly. That is just like a phoenix (laughs).

From an adult’s point of view, a child’s physical strength seems infinite, but in reality, the child was running out of energy and had to take a break to recover as fast as possible. In reality, however, the children were running out of energy and seemed to be recovering quickly after taking a break.

Incidentally, the main reason why adults cannot keep up with children’s play, apart from the speed of children’s recovery, is that adults do not usually exercise. If they are not exercising on a regular basis, they become more fatigued, and the speed at which they recover from fatigue is also slower. This means that if you want to have fun playing with your children, you need to exercise on a regular basis to build up their physical strength.

However, it is safe to say that children’s physical strength (resilience) is a monster.
