昨夜の雷雨はどこへやら…。雨が降るにしてもちょっと手加減してくれよ…と、言いたい気分でありました。そして大雨からの今日の名古屋はとても蒸し暑いです。湿度が高いと熱中症のリスクも高まりやすいと言われますので、くれぐれも無理せずお過ごしくださいね。

さて、先日のブログでも話題に出ておりましたが、今年も古美術風光舎のご近所城山八幡宮にて7/15(火)-17(木)「大茅輪（おおちのわ）くぐり・夏祭り」が行われております。

茅輪くぐりは、神社境内に設置された大きな輪をくぐることにより、無病息災・厄除け・家内安全などを祈願する行事のことをいいいますが、「輪くぐり」・「茅の輪くぐり」とも呼ばれ様々な神社にてこの時期行われておりますね。みなさまのご近所の神社にも、この時期輪があるのではないでしょうか。

この輪くぐり、スサノヲノ命の故事に習い祓芦（はらえよし）を持って茅の輪をくぐり、茅（ち・ちがや）の働きによって無病息災・諸難消除・疫病退散・健康長寿を御護り戴く夏の神事なのですが、そのくぐり方を毎年のごとく、うっかり忘れて毎年緊張してしまうのは自分だけでしょうか。

そのくぐり方を調べてみますと、

先ず、茅の輪の前に立って軽く礼。左足からまたいで輪をくぐり、左回りに茅の輪の左側を回って元の位置に戻ります。 次に茅の輪の前で軽く礼をし、 右足からまたいで輪をくぐり、右回りに茅の輪の右側回って元の位置に戻り、最後は茅の輪をくぐり抜けて拝殿し、お参りを行うそうです。

神社によっては、ひと回りごとの礼を省略し、八の字を書くように3度続けてくぐり抜けるところもあったりと、作法については神社によって違いますので、参拝した神社の作法にしたがって参拝してくださいね。（ちなみに城山八幡宮は右に1回、左に1回、直進して1回くぐるという作法のようです。）

しかし、後ろに並んだ方などがおりますと早くせねば…と、焦りもあってか、毎年のごとくミスっているような気がしてなりません笑。

これでは無病息災・諸難消除・疫病退散・健康長寿の祈願が届かないのでは…と、欲を張ってもう一度やり直しそうかと思ってみたりと、まぁ毎年実に格好の悪い輪くぐりとなっております。

城山八幡宮ではこの大茅輪神事と共に、小児の虫封じ『赤丸神事』、災厄除け・息災守護の『息災鈴祓』、提灯奉納の『献燈行事』等々、三日間にわたり夏の夜祭りを斎行しており、境内は献燈の灯りが浮かび上がり、山の手に夏を呼ぶ祭りとして毎年本当に多くの参拝で賑わいます。

また、夕方から露店なども出て賑やかになってまいりますので、お時間ございます方、是非足を運んでみてください。

さて本日のブログにて予習はできましたので、私も今年こそは格好よくくぐる準備はできているつもりです。たぶん焦るとは思いますが、お仕事帰りにいってまいります。

Where was the thunderstorm last night? I was in the mood to say, “Even if it rains, please go easy on me…. And after the heavy rain, it is very hot and humid in Nagoya today. It is said that high humidity increases the risk of heat stroke, so please take it easy.

As I mentioned in my blog the other day, the “Oochi-wa Kiguri” summer festival is being held from July 15 (Tue.) to 17 (Thu.) again this year at Shiroyama Hachimangu Shrine, which is located near the Antique Art Fumikosha.

Ouchi-no-wa-kuguri, also called “ring-kuguri” or “thatch-ring-kuguri,” is an event to pray for good health, protection from bad luck, and safety in the home by passing through a large thatch-ring set up in the shrine precincts. I am sure there are rings at shrines in your neighborhood during this time of the year.

This is a summer ritual to pray for good health and longevity, to get rid of all illnesses, to get rid of all troubles, to get rid of pestilence and disease, and to be blessed with good health and longevity by the work of thatched grass. Is it just me?

Let’s take a look at how to go through the rite,

First, stand in front of the thatched ring and bow lightly. Then, you cross the ring with your left foot, turn left to the left side of the ring, and return to the original position. Next, you will bow lightly in front of the thatch ring, cross the ring with your right foot, turn clockwise around the right side of the thatch ring, and return to your original position.

Some shrines omit the “bow” after each round of the circle, and instead have people go through the circle three times in succession, as if writing the character for eight, etc. The manners differ from shrine to shrine, so please follow the manners of the shrine you visit. However, I feel as if I make mistakes every year, perhaps because I am in a hurry to get to the shrine as soon as possible when I see someone else in line behind me, lol.

I am afraid that my prayers for good health and longevity, the elimination of all kinds of bad luck, the eradication of epidemics, and health and longevity will not be answered… I am thinking that I might be greedy and start over again.

In addition to the “Oo Kayowa Shinji,” Shiroyama Hachimangu Shrine holds a three-day summer night festival, including the “Akamaru Shinji” to seal away insects from children, the “Kozai Suzuho” to ward off bad luck and protect people from misfortune, and the “Dedo Event” to dedicate lanterns.

The temple grounds are illuminated by lantern offerings, and the festival attracts many worshippers every year as it brings summer to the Yamanote area.

Now that I have done my preparation in today’s blog, I think I am ready to go through the festival in style this year. I will probably be in a hurry, but I will be there on my way home from work.

数日前、今年初めて蝉の鳴き声を耳にしました。その年に初めて鳴く蝉のことを「初蝉（はつぜみ）」といい、夏の季語にもなっています。
蝉は、毎年梅雨が明けるか明けないかの曖昧な時期に、木々あたりから「ジジジ…」なんて声が聞こえることがあります。あれ、蝉の声だったかなぁ…と思っていたら数日後に大合唱がはじまってやっぱり蝉だったことに気づきます。その繰り返しで、毎年季節のめぐりを教えてくれる生きものだなと思います。

ところが、いつもなら梅雨明けとともに始まる蝉の大合唱が今年は全く聞こえてきません。この静けさに多くの人も気づいているようで、SNSでは「今年は蝉の声がしない」という投稿もたくさん見かけます。

ですが、本来、セミの季節は7月下旬頃。例年梅雨明けはこの時期ですので、蝉としては普通通りに出てきたんですけど…という感じかもしれません。今年は多くの地域で6月終わりに梅雨が明け、とても暑い日が続いたので、「気温もすごく高い、気分は夏なのにセミが鳴いていない」と人間が勝手にセミの鳴く頃かと期待していただけの違和感とも言えますね。

夏の風物詩ではありますが、聞こえたら聞こえたで、「セミが鳴くと体感温度2度くらい上がるので、鳴かないでくれたほうがありがたい」と思ってしまう自分勝手な人間側なのですが、実際、このところの高温で鳴かなくなってきているセミもいるといいます。

クマゼミの場合は、暑くても32〜33度くらいまでしか鳴くことができず、35度を超えるような時間帯になるとあまり鳴かなくなるのだそうです。ですので、35度を超える日中は蝉の鳴き声も聞こえず、余計に鳴かなくなったと感じるのかもしれません。高温になると、蝉も人間と同じようにエネルギーが足りなくなったり、暑さに耐えられなくなったりして危険な状態になるのだそう。いくら暑さに強いセミでも35度を超えると、人間でいう熱中症のような状態なのかもしれません。

蝉の声といえば幼いころ、畳の部屋で寝っ転がっているときによく聞こえてきたことを思い出します。外で遊んでいるときは自分と蝉の声が重なり大音量のBGMになっているのであまり意識しないのですが、「ちょっとひと休み」と動きを止めたときにふと、心地よく響いてくる。夢かうつつかウトウトしながら、蝉の鳴き声が近くなったり遠くなったり…。たしかに、私が子どもの頃は、たぶん今ほど気温が高くなかったから、真夏の昼間でもセミの声が聞こえていたんですよね…。

もしかしたら近い将来、平地では蝉の声がほぼ聞こえなくなり、山間部だけでしか聞くことができない…なんてことになるかもしれません。夏と蝉は結びついていた思い出ですが、これからの子どもたちには違ってくるのでしょうか。

ミーンミンミンミンミン…
という声が聞こえはじめたらいよいよ夏本番。あの蝉たちの大合唱が聞こえてこないと待ち遠しいとさえ思えてきました。

A few days ago, I heard the chirping of cicadas for the first time this year. The first cicada of the year is called hatsuzemi, which is also a seasonal term for summer.
Every year, during the vague period between the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the rainy season, cicadas can be heard coming from the trees, “Jijijiji…” I wonder if it was the sound of cicadas. I wonder if it is the sound of cicadas…. A few days later, I realize that it is indeed cicadas when a loud chorus begins. This repetition reminds me that cicadas are living creatures that remind us of the passing of the seasons every year.

This year, however, the chorus of cicadas that usually begins at the end of the rainy season has not been heard at all. Many people seem to have noticed this silence, and I have seen many posts on social networking sites saying, “I don’t hear any cicadas this year.

However, the cicada season is originally around late July. Since the rainy season usually ends around this time, it may be that as cicadas, they have come out as usual…. This year, the rainy season ended at the end of June in many areas, and the days were very hot, so it could be said that the cicadas were not singing because the temperature was very high and it felt like summer, but the cicadas were not singing, and people were expecting them to be singing on their own.

Although cicadas are a summer tradition, it is selfish of us humans to think that we would be more grateful if they did not chirp, since the chirping of cicadas raises our body temperature by about 2°C. In fact, some cicadas have actually stopped chirping due to the recent high temperatures.

In the case of the kuma-zemi (black bear cicada), it can only chirp up to 32 to 33 degrees Celsius even in hot weather, and when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, it does not chirp as much. Therefore, cicadas are not heard during the daytime when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, and may feel that they have stopped singing even more. At high temperatures, cicadas, like humans, become dangerously short on energy and unable to tolerate the heat. No matter how heat-tolerant cicadas may be, when the temperature exceeds 35°C, they may be in a state similar to that of heat stroke in humans.

The sound of cicadas reminds me of when I was a child and would often hear them when I was lying on the tatami mats in my room. When I was playing outside, I was not really aware of it because the sound of cicadas and myself overlapped and became loud background music, but when I stopped moving to take a break, I suddenly heard a pleasant echo. As I doze off, dreaming or not, the cicadas’ chirps become nearer or farther away…. Indeed, when I was a child, the temperature was probably not as high as it is now, so I could hear the cicadas’ voices even during the daytime in mid-summer….

Perhaps in the near future, cicadas will be almost unheard of on the plains, and will only be heard in mountainous areas…. Summer and cicadas have always been associated with memories, but will it be different for children in the future?

When you start to hear the sound of “ming-ming-ming-ming-ming…”, summer is finally here.
When you start to hear the sound of “ming ming ming ming ming ming ming ming ming…” summer is finally in full swing. I can hardly wait until I don’t hear the chorus of the cicadas.

皆さまは見るのと聞くのはどちらが得意でしょうか。そんなことは考えたこともないという方もいらっしゃるでしょう。（私もそうでした。）あるいはどちらも得意という方もいるかもしれません。

一説によりますと、目で見て覚えるのが得意な「視覚優位タイプ」と音から覚えるのが得意な「聴覚優位タイプ」の人間がいるとのこと。視覚優位タイプは目から入る情報の方が記憶しやすく、試験などではノートや教科書が頭の中に浮かび、あの辺に書いてあったなどど思い出すそうです。

「聴覚優位タイプ」は授業中の先生の話がスッと理解できたり、教科書を音読して耳から情報を入れた方が覚えやすいのだとか。昔は「とにかく書いて覚えろ」などど言われましたが、万人に通用する訳ではないのかもしれません。

私はどちらかというと「視覚優位タイプ」なのではと思います。声に出して読むとあまり頭に入ってこないのですが、黙読するとクリアに理解できます。家族の一人はたぶん「聴覚優位タイプ」で、黙読だけでは理解しきれない時があり、声に出して読んであげると「あーそういうこと」と言うので、書いてあるじゃん！といつも不思議に思っていました。

関係あるかどうかは分かりませんが、私はラジオはあまり聴きません。ラジオで音楽を聴くのは好きなのですが、ラジオの会話はあまり頭に入ってこず、集中して聞こうとしてしまうので少々疲れます。

聴覚優位かと思われる家族は、ラジオが好きでよく聴いています。そういえば私の母もラジオを一日中つけっぱなしでした。私には受け継がれていないようですが…。

今の情報過多の世界からは考えられませんが、活字しか情報が無かった時代にラジオから突如として生の音声が流れてきた時の衝撃は相当のものだったでしょう。日本で初めてラジオから声が流れたのが、今からちょうど１００年前の１９２５年３月２２日です。その時はまだ仮の放送所からだったようですが、「こちら東京放送局であります。」という第一声が響きました。そしてその年の７月１２日、（１００年前の今日）、東京放送局（現在のNHK）が本放送を開始しました。１９２５年のラジオ契約者は東京で約１３万件、大阪で４万件、名古屋では１万件だったとか。

先日の朝ドラ「あんぱん」で、「ＮＨＫのど自慢」のラジオ放送が流れてくる場面がありました。今ではテレビ放送となり、全国各地で予選と本選が開催されていますが、当時は東京へ出向かなければ出場することが叶わなかったのですね。三姉妹の末っ子が「のど自慢」への出場を夢見て一度は汽車に乗りますが、尻込みし高知駅で途中下車してしまいます。当時の高知から東京といえば、今なら外国へ赴くようなものでしょう。しかし今後、ドラマで昔の「のど自慢」の裏側などが見られそうな気配があり楽しみにしております。

ところで、のど自慢恒例の合否の鐘ですが放送当初からあった訳ではないようです。合格の場合は「おめでとうございます。合格です。」と司会者が出演者に口頭で告げられていました。そして不合格の場合はなんと「もう結構です」と告げられたのだとか。ちょっと言葉が冷たすぎる気もしますが、「結構」の意味が曖昧で「上出来だ」ともとれるため、合格したと勘違いする人もいたそうです。（残酷すぎますね…。）打開策として分かりやすく鐘の音の数で評価するという今のシステムになったといいます。

ちなみに鐘はチューブラベールと呼ばれる楽器で、２００２年から２０２３年までの２１年間、演奏していたのは秋山気清さんでした。東京藝術大学で打楽器を専攻されプロの打楽器奏者として活躍された方だそうです。そんな立派な経歴の方が鳴らしいたとは。

裏話として、不合格の時は鐘が一つか二つなのですが、秋山さんが合格でもいいと感じた時は一音目と二音目の間を少し長めにしていたのだとか。今では叶いませんが聞き分けてみたかったです。

その後は各地のオーケストラの打楽器奏者が担当することになったとのこと。

「ＮＨＫのど自慢」といえば老若男女問わず様々な出演者がおり、かなり年配の方や緊張している出演者などは歌のテンポが早くなったり遅くなったりすることがあります。ハラハラしながら聴いていると、生バンドが素早くキャッチし歌に合わせたテンポの演奏に変わり一安心ということがよくありました。しかし２０２３年に生バンドはカラオケ音源に変わっていました！気付きませんでした。

じゃ、テンポがズレてしまったら最後まで？と父のカラオケを思い出し少し悲しくなりました。

Are you better at watching or listening? Some of you may have never thought about it. （Some of you may have never thought about it (I did). Or maybe you are good at both.

According to one theory, there are two types of people: the “visual-dominant” type, who are better at remembering things by sight, and the “auditory-dominant” type, who are better at remembering things by sound. The visual-dominant type can remember information from their eyes more easily, and when taking an exam, they can see their notebook or textbook in their mind and remember what was written there.

Auditory-dominant types can easily understand what the teacher says in class and remember information from their ears by reading textbooks aloud. In the past, people used to say, “Just write it down and memorize it,” but that may not be true for everyone.

I think I am more of a “visually dominant” type. When I read aloud, it doesn’t enter my head very well, but when I read silently, I can understand it clearly. One of my family members is probably the “auditory dominant type,” and when I read aloud to him, he says, “Oh, that’s what I mean! I always wondered why.

I don’t know if this is related, but I don’t listen to the radio very much. I like listening to music on the radio, but radio conversations don’t really enter my head and I get a little tired of trying to concentrate and listen.

My family members, who may be auditory dominant, like to listen to the radio a lot. Come to think of it, my mother also had the radio on all day long. It doesn’t seem to have been passed down to me….

It is hard to imagine in today’s world of information overload, but it must have been quite a shock to suddenly hear a live voice on the radio at a time when the only information available was in print. The first time voices were heard over the radio in Japan was exactly 100 years ago, on March 22, 1925. At the time, it was from a temporary broadcast station, but the first voice rang out, “This is the Tokyo Broadcasting System. The first voice echoed. In 1925, there were about 130,000 radio subscribers in Tokyo, 40,000 in Osaka, and 10,000 in Nagoya.

In the recent morning drama “Anpan,” there was a scene where the radio broadcast of “NHK Nodo Jiman” came on. Nowadays, it is broadcast on TV, and preliminary and final contests are held in various parts of Japan, but back then, you had to go to Tokyo to participate. The youngest of the three sisters dreamed of participating in the “Nodo Boast” and took the train once, but she was reluctant to get off the train and got off at Kochi Station. In those days, traveling from Kochi to Tokyo would be like going to a foreign country. However, I am looking forward to watching the drama that will take us behind the scenes of the “Nodo Boast” in the future.

By the way, the bell that is used to announce whether the contestants have passed or failed has not been used since the beginning of the broadcast. If you pass the test, you will be told “Congratulations, you have passed. You have passed. the MC would verbally announce to the performers that they had passed the contest. If they failed, they were told, “That’s enough. The word “fine” was ambiguous and could be taken to mean “good job,” so some people mistakenly thought they had passed. (That’s too cruel…). As a solution to this problem, the current system was introduced, which is based on the number of tones of the bell.

Incidentally, the bell is an instrument called a tubular veil, and it was played by Kiyo Akiyama for 21 years from 2002 to 2023. He majored in percussion at Tokyo University of the Arts and was active as a professional percussionist. I had no idea that someone with such a distinguished career was playing.

The story behind this is that when he was not accepted, there were only one or two bells, but when Mr. Akiyama felt it was acceptable to be accepted, he made the interval between the first and second notes a little longer. I wish I could have heard it, although it is not possible now.

After that, percussionists from various orchestras took charge.

NHK Nodo Jimpo” has a wide variety of performers, young and old, male and female, and the tempo of the songs can be fast or slow for some of the older performers or for those who are nervous. While I was listening to the songs, the live band would quickly catch on and change the tempo to match the song, and I would often feel relieved. However, in 2023, the live band was replaced by a karaoke soundtrack! I did not notice.

So, if the tempo is out of sync, how do you finish the song? I was a little sad, remembering my father’s karaoke.

今日はプチプチした食感と柔らかいお餅のハーモニーが最高な「けし餅」をいただきました。

こしあんを餅でくるみ、けしの実を底まで全体にみっしりとまぶしてあります。お餅にみっしりとケシの実がついているのに、手に取ってもポロポロ落ちることがないのがすごい。

口に運ぶと、けしの実のプチプチとした食感とともに、香ばしさが広がります。こし餡とお餅はとても滑らかです。ケシの実が口の中でプチプチと良い食感がしますが、お餅から離れないので、口の中で粒が気になることもなく（これけっこう大事かも）食べられます。

茶席でも愛用されるというお菓子だけに、あんこはほどよい甘さ、餅も薄くて柔らか。けしの実は贅沢にまぶしてあって、とっても上品。冷たい緑茶と一緒にいただきましたが、相乗効果かおかわりできるものならなら何個でも食べられちゃいそうです。もちろん抹茶や煎茶、ほうじ茶とも相性抜群でしょう。

この「けし餅」は言わずと知れた大阪府堺市を代表する銘菓の一つですね。

あんぱんのトッピングでもお馴染みのけしの実は、堺が南蛮貿易の港町として栄え、海外からの珍しい産物が色々輸入された中の一つです。室町時代にインドからもたらされ、大阪、堺、和歌山周辺で盛んに栽培されるようになったそうです。

そして安土桃山時代に千利休によって広められた茶の湯の習慣は、堺の地で多くの和菓子を生み出し、その一つがけしの実の香味を生かして考案された『けし餅』だったとのこと。

ところで「ケシの実」は漢字で書くと「芥子の実」と書きますが、この芥子という漢字は「からし」「けし」「かいし（がいし）」の3通りの読み方があります。「からし」と聞くと「辛子」という漢字をイメージしますが、「芥子」でも香辛料の「からし」と同じ意味のようです。

「けし」は種類によってはアヘンの材料に使われるため、麻薬と意味を取り違えないよう、香辛料の「からし」は「辛子」と表記されてるとのこと。もちろん、料理に使う「からし」を「芥子」と書いても間違いではないようです。

そしてこの3通りの読み方、それぞれ状態で読み方が変わります。

芥子を「からし」と読むのは、アブラナ科の「芥子菜（カラシナ）」の種子を水で練って香辛料にした状態のものを指します。また「かいし（がいし）」とは、カラシナの種子のことを指し、医薬品の原料として使われることもあるそうです。最後に「けし」は高さ1.5mほどまで育つケシ科の植物を指します。

ちょっとややこしくなってきましたが、つまり芥子と表記されますが、ケシはケシ科、カラシはアブラナ科、全く違う２種類の植物ということです。芥子とは、カラシナとケシという植物のそれぞれの状態で読み方が異なるおもしろい漢字なのですね。

ところでカラシにもいろいろ種類がありますが、和カラシはカラシナ、洋カラシはシロガラシやクロガラシから作られるそうです。そしてシロガラシの種子は白芥子として生薬にも使われているとのことです…。なんだか何を調べていたのか分からなくなってきました…。

ちなみに七味唐辛子にはケシの実が入っておりますよ。

Today we had “Keshi Mochi,” a rice cake with the perfect harmony of soft and crunchy texture and soft rice cake.

Koshi An (sweet red bean paste) is wrapped around the rice cake, and poppy seeds are sprinkled all over the rice cake, even on the bottom. It is amazing that even though the rice cake is covered with poppy seeds, they do not fall off when you pick up the rice cake.

When you put it in your mouth, you can feel the crunchy texture of the poppy seeds as well as the savory aroma. The bean paste and mochi are very smooth. The poppy seeds have a nice texture in your mouth, but since they do not separate from the rice cake, you can eat it without worrying about the grains in your mouth (this may be quite important).

The mochi is thin and soft, and the sweet bean paste is just the right amount of sweetness, as it is also used in tea ceremonies. The rice cake is thin and soft, and the poppy seeds are lavishly sprinkled on top, making it very elegant. I enjoyed it with a cup of cold green tea, and I could have eaten as many as I could if I could have had another cup. Of course, it would also go well with matcha, sencha, or hojicha tea.

Keshi Mochi” is one of the famous confections representing Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture.

Keshi nuts, which are also a familiar topping for anpan (sweet bean buns), were one of the many rare products imported from overseas during Sakai’s prosperity as a port town for the Nanban trade. They were brought from India in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and were actively cultivated in the Osaka, Sakai, and Wakayama areas.

The custom of tea ceremony spread by Sen no Rikyu in the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1600) produced many Japanese confections in Sakai, and one of them was “Keshi Mochi,” which was invented by taking advantage of the poppy seed’s aroma.

By the way, “keshi no mi” (poppy seed) is written in Chinese characters as “keshi no mi,” which can be read in three different ways: “karashi,” “keshi,” and “kaishi (gaiji). The kanji for “mustard” conjures up images of the Chinese character for “hot pepper,” but ‘keshi’ seems to have the same meaning as the spice “mustard.

Since some types of “mustard” are used to make opium, the spice ‘mustard’ is written as “spicy” so as not to confuse the meaning with that of narcotics. Of course, it is not wrong to write “mustard” as “poppy” when it is used in cooking.

And each of these three ways of reading the word seems to change depending on the state.

The reading of “mustard” as “kara-shi” refers to the seeds of the mustard plant, a member of the Brassicaceae family, which are kneaded with water to make a spice. Also, “kaishi (gai-shi)” refers to the seeds of the mustard plant, which are sometimes used as an ingredient in medicines. Finally, “keshi” refers to a plant of the poppy family that grows up to 1.5 meters tall.

This is a bit confusing, but it means that although it is described as mustard, poppy is a member of the poppy family and mustard is a member of the Brassicaceae family, two completely different types of plants. The Chinese character for “mustard” is an interesting one, as it has different readings for the different states of the two plants, mustard and keshi.

By the way, there are various types of mustard, but Japanese mustard is made from karashina, while Western mustard is made from shirogalashi and kurogalashi. And the seeds of shirogalashi are used in herbal medicine as shirokeshi (white mustard).

By the way, shichimi chili contains poppy seeds.

先日のスタッフHのブログでもお知らせがりましたが、この7月、覚王山界隈はお祭りが盛りだくさんであります。

もう一つの夏のお祭りが、ご近所の城山八幡宮の茅野輪くぐりでして、来週の7月15日～17日開催されますが、準備はどうなっているか…。

ちょっと気になって立ち寄ってみようと朝から灼熱の日差しを浴びながら境内の階段を登っていってみたのですが、はい、きつかったです…。お茶はちゃんと飲みましたよ。

このように城山八幡宮はかつての山城の跡地なので山の上にあるので、山を登らないといけないわけですが、本日は登っていく階段の途中に献灯を飾る作業の方がおりました。祓芦はまだありませんでしたが、これだけ提灯飾るのもかなり大変ですね…。ですが、明るいうちの献灯も風に靡き涼し気であります。

茅野輪くぐりはスサノヲの命の故事に習い、祓葦思って茅の輪をくぐり茅の働きによって無病息災・諸難消除・疫病退散・健康長寿のご加護をうける夏の神事ですが、この「芦」は「あし」を「よし」とも読むそうで、祓芦は「あし」を「よし」と言い換えて招くとして「よき事」という意味もあるようですが、（「換言」の一種です）この晴天の献灯を眺めているだけでどことなくご加護を先取りした気分ではあります。

また、城山八幡宮では茅野神事と共に小児の虫封じ「赤丸神事」、厄除け・息災守護の「息災鈴祓」、堤灯奉納の「献燈神事」等や縁日なども出て、この3日は昼夜問わず沢山の参拝者で賑わいます。昼間のご加護は先取りしたとして、実は夜の境内の献灯を見たことがない…。

この晴天の下の献灯とは違った風景を見たくて、今年は仕事の帰りに寄り道を企んでおります。

As announced in Staff Y’s blog the other day, the Chino-waraguri at Shiroyama Hachimangu Shrine will be held next week, July 15-17, again this year.

I was curious to see how the preparations were going, so I decided to drop by and climbed the stairs in the precincts of the shrine under the scorching sun in the morning, and yes, it was tough…. Yes, it was tough… I did drink tea, though.

As you can see, Shiroyama Hachimangu Shrine is located on top of a mountain because it is the site of a former mountain castle, so we had to climb the mountain. Today, we were in the middle of our work to decorate the stairs we climbed with votive lanterns. There was no purification ceremony yet, but it is quite a task to display this many lanterns…. However, it was cool as the offering lanterns swayed in the wind.

The “Ashi” is a summer ritual to receive blessings for good health and longevity, to get rid of various illnesses, to get rid of plague, and to get rid of plague by the work of thatched grass. Ashi also has a meaning of “good thing”. (It is a kind of “kanbun”).

The festival is held at Shiroyama Hachiman-gu Shrine for three days, but I have never actually seen the nighttime dedication of the lanterns on the shrine grounds. I have never seen the lantern offering at night….

I am planning to stop by on my way home from work this year to see a different scene from the lantern offering under the clear sky.

今年も覚王山 日泰寺参道にて「覚王山夏祭」が開催されます。

７月２６日（土）・７月２７日（日）

１６：００～２１：００（雨天決行）

日中は厳しい暑さが続き外出するには気力が必要ですが、夏祭り開催時刻は夕方からですので、クラフトビールなどの冷たい飲み物を片手に夏気分を味わってみてはいかがでしょうか。浴衣でのご来場も大歓迎とのことです。

例年通り参道には美味しい食べ物や雑貨の屋台が並び、子ども向けのゲームコーナーも充実しています。今年は屋台の他にキッチンカ―も出店するとのこと。そういえば最近あちらこちらでキッチンカ―をよく見かけるようになりました。

このキッチンカ―、日本では２０００年頃に屋台スタイルの移動販売車として、地域のイベントや学園祭などに登場しました。しかしその頃はまだ屋台を少し便利にしたものといった感じで、営業の許可制度も厳しいものだったようです。

全国的に知られるようになったのは東日本大震災の時だといいます。被災地において、移動可能で温かい食べものを提供できるキッチンカ―は支援の助けになったとのこと。

その後２０１９年末から始まったコロナ禍において飲食店は打撃を受け、打開策として店舗から外へ出てキッチンカ―で営業する飲食業者が一気に増えました。気軽に手早く食事を済ませることができる便利さから、今でもオフィス街などでキッチンカ―を見かけることが多くなりました。

キッチンカ―の人気を受け大手企業も参入するようになり、さらに広がりをみせています。それに伴い、より質の高いキッチンカ―を製造する会社やキッチンカーの外装や内装をデザインする会社なども増えてきているのだとか。確かにオシャレで可愛いデザインのキッチンカ―には私もつい目を奪われ、結局購入している傾向があります…。やはりまず目を引くというのは大切なのかもしれません。

またキッチンカ―は自分の夢を叶える第一歩としての役割も果たしています。カフェを始めたいけれども店舗を持つ勇気が持てないという人が、まずキッチンカ―で試してみるのだそうです。

これからもオシャレで美味しいキッチンカ―がどんどん増えてきそうですね。

手軽に美味しいものを食べたいという欲求は昔の人も同じだったようで、日本の食べ物の移動販売の文化は古く、室町時代の「振り売り」にまで遡るともいわれています。天秤棒に木桶などをとりつけ売り歩いていたのだとか。

江戸時代には大火のあと街を再建するために、地方から単身の男性が流入し、調理済みで簡単に済ませられる食事が好まれ、屋台が大人気となっていました。車輪がなく取り壊し簡単な「据え置き型」と屋台をコンパクトにしたものを担いで移動する「担ぎ屋台」がありました。

担ぎ屋台、文章では説明しにくいのでぜひ検索してみてください。主に蕎麦を売っていたようですが、食器なども収納できる優れものです。それにしてもかなり重そうです。昔の人は力持ちが多かったのでしょうか。

据え置き型では天ぷらや団子、果物などが売られ、なんと冷蔵庫などが無い時代にお寿司も売られていたようです。始めは数ヶ月発酵させた「なれずし」からはじまり、「酢」が手に入りやすくなると、酢を加えた押しずしや箱ずしなとが売られるようになりました。１８１８年頃からはようやく握りずしが登場します。江戸湾で採れる芝えび、こはだ、アナゴ、白魚、マグロなどを火を通して味付けした江戸前ずしです。現在の鮨よりも大振りで安く、立ったまま手づかみで食べるおやつとして人気だったようです。当時はマグロはあまり人気がなく、卵巻きが一番高価だったそうで物の価値というのは分からないものです。

私も学園祭でお好み焼きを販売したことがありますが、ひたすらキャベツを切っていた記憶があります。飲食店の大変さを実感すると同時に、「美味しい！」といってもらうと至福の喜びがあり、徐々に味にこだわり過ぎて儲けがほとんどありませんでした。当時のメンバーの間では笑い話となっています。

Kakuozan Summer Festival” will be held again this year at the approach to Nittaiji Temple, Kakuozan.

Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27, 16:00 – 21:00 (rain or shine)

The heat will be intense during the daytime and you will need energy to go out, but since the festival starts in the evening, why not enjoy the summer mood with a craft beer or other cold beverage in your hand? Visitors are also welcome to come in yukata (light cotton kimono).

As in past years, the approach to the festival is lined with stalls selling delicious food and sundry goods, and there is also a game corner for children. This year, in addition to the food stalls, there will also be kitchen cars. Come to think of it, kitchen cars have been seen here and there recently.

This kitchen car. In Japan, kitchen cars first appeared around 2000 at local events and school festivals as mobile food stall-style vendors. At that time, however, they were still a slightly more convenient version of food stalls, and the permit system for their operation was still very strict.

It was only after the Great East Japan Earthquake that they became known nationwide. Kitchen cars, which were mobile and could provide hot food, helped in the disaster areas.

Then the Corona disaster, which began at the end of 2019, hit restaurants hard, and as a breakthrough, the number of business owners who left their stores to operate in kitchen cars increased dramatically. Nowadays, kitchen cars can be seen more and more often in office areas because of their convenience and ability to serve a quick and easy meal.

The popularity of kitchen cars has prompted major companies to enter the market, and the number of kitchen cars is growing even more. As a result, there are more and more companies that manufacture higher quality kitchen cars and design the exterior and interior of their kitchen cars. It is true that I tend to be attracted by stylish and cute designed kitchen cars and end up buying them…. It may be important to catch the eye first.

Kitchen cars also play a role as the first step toward realizing one’s dream. People who want to start a café but don’t have the courage to open their own store try out kitchen cars first.

It seems that the number of stylish and delicious kitchen cafes will continue to increase.

It is said that the culture of mobile food sales in Japan dates back to the Muromachi period (1333-1573). They used to sell food by attaching wooden buckets and other items to a balance pole.

During the Edo period (1603-1867), single men from the countryside came to rebuild the city after a major fire, and food stalls became very popular because people preferred to have a meal that was pre-prepared and easy to prepare. There were two types of yatai: the stationary type, which had no wheels and was easy to dismantle, and the portable yatai, a compact version of the yatai that was carried on a portable stand.

It is difficult to explain in writing, so please search for it. It was mainly used to sell buckwheat noodles, but it could also hold tableware and other items. It looks quite heavy. I wonder if many people in the past were strong.

Stationary sushi sold tempura, dumplings, fruits, etc., and, to the surprise of many, sushi was also sold at a time when there were no refrigerators. Nigirizushi (hand-rolled sushi) finally appeared around 1818. Nigirizushi is so-called “Edomae-zushi,” or Edo-mae-zushi, which is made with shiba-ebi, kohada, sea eel, white fish, tuna, and other fish from Edo Bay, seasoned over a fire. It was larger and cheaper than today’s sushi, and was popular as a snack to be eaten with one’s hands while standing. Tuna was not very popular at that time, and egg rolls were the most expensive.

I once sold okonomiyaki at a school festival, and I remember that I had to slice cabbage. I remember that I had to work hard to cut the cabbage. It is a funny story among the members at that time that we were so particular about the taste that we hardly made any profit. Even so, it was a very valuable experience for me to sell something I had made myself.

たしか先日、7月7日の七夕の日が珍しく晴れ予報だとかで喜んでいたわけなんですが、なんと昨夜のわが地域は突然の夕立のような雨。苦笑うしかなかったのですが、これは少々期待が膨らみ過ぎたようですね。いやいいんですよ、我々には伝統的七夕8月28日がありますから。こちらでリベンジしましょう。

それはそうと、令和7年7月7日は「７」が並ぶということもあって、昨日は各所で記念のグッズなどが売り出されたようですね。せっかくなので自分も令和7年7月7日7時7分の瞬間をどこかしらで画像に残したいと思ったのですが、如何せん朝の7時7分、朝の準備に気を取られ、気が付いたのは7時10分でした笑。決定的な瞬間を抑えたい時って何故だか2、3分後に気が付くのはなぜなんでしょうね。

昨日はこのように「7」という数字に翻弄された一日だったのですが、このどこか縁起がよさそうな「7」という数字、偶然にも世界中で特別な意味を持つ数字のようですね。

特に西洋では旧約聖書「創世記」において神が6日間で天地を創造し、7日目に休息したという記述から、聖なる数、完全な数として認識されていて、また日本では七福神、七草、七夕など様々な文化や行事になぜか「7」が用いられていますが、仏教においても、例えば「初七日」や7日ごとの7回法要の最後の供養としての「四十九日の供養」という形で「七」は特別な数字と捉えられているようですし、「七宝」と呼ばれる七種の宝という言葉があったりもします。これは単なる偶然なのか。

ほかにも「ラッキーセブン」なんて普通に使うし、「7大陸」や「7つの海」という言い方も「全ての」という意味合いが込められていたり、「世界の七不思議」なんてくくりもあったり。とまらなくなったので、「7」の言葉を探ってみると「親の七光り」「七変化」「七つ道具」「七転八倒」「七難八苦」などなど…。言葉のみならず、映画でもジェームスボンドの「007」、黒澤明の「七人の侍」、白雪姫の小人も7人だったな笑。虹も七色だしな。

ここまでくると、この「7」の定義はなんだ？とも思えてくるのですが、みなさんはどう思われますでしょうか。

「完全」「全て」や「多くの」あるいは「多様な」なんて意味をあわらす形で使用されて、歴史の流れからも良いイメージ、ラッキーなイメージのものを並べるときに使われているような気がするのですが。誰かこの「7」が使われる言葉の上手い定義が思いつきましたら教えてください。

それにしても令和7年7月7日7時7分を見逃したのは、かなり悔やまれます。

I wanted to capture the moment of July 7, 2025 at 7:07 a.m., but it was 7:07 in the morning and I was distracted by morning preparations, and it was 7:10 a.m. when I noticed it, lol. Why is it that when I want to capture a decisive moment, I notice it two or three minutes later?

Yesterday was a day in which I was at the mercy of the number “7.” This somewhat auspicious number “7” seems to have a special meaning all over the world by coincidence.

Especially in the West, it is recognized as a holy and perfect number from the description in the “Genesis” of the Old Testament that God created the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh day. In Buddhism, for example, “seven” is regarded as a special number in the form of “the first seven days” and “the 49th day memorial service” as the last of the seven memorial services held every seven days, and there is also the term “seven treasures,” which refers to the seven kinds of treasures. Is this just a coincidence?

There are also other words such as “lucky seven,” “seven continents,” “seven oceans,” “all of them,” and “seven wonders of the world. I couldn’t stop searching for words for “seven,” and found “seven lights of parents,” “seven changes,” “seven tools,” “seven falls,” “seven hardships,” and “eight pains,” and so on…. Not only in words, but also in movies, James Bond’s “007,” Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai,” and the dwarf in “Snow White” was also seven, lol. And the rainbow has seven colors too.

So far, what is the definition of this “seven”? What do you think?

I think it is used to mean “perfect,” “all,” “many,” or “various,” and is also used to express a good or lucky image from history. If anyone can come up with a good definition of the word “7” used here, please let me know.
