大阪・関西万博開催中の熱気が遠い昔のようにも思えますが、閉幕からはまだ１ヶ月ほどしか経っていないのですね。パビリオンには連日長蛇の列ができていましたが、なかでも待ち時間が最高８時間ともいわれ、１番人気とされていたのが「イタリア館」でした。イタリアの万博に対する「本気度」が表れていたともいわれています。

イタリア政府代表でもあったマリオ・バッターニ氏によると「２０１５年のイタリア・ミラノ万博において日本は素晴らしいパビリオンを建ててくれた。本物の質を大切にする日本へ貴重な美術品をたくさん持ってきて驚かせたかった」のだそうです。

 

私は結局イタリア館には入ることはできず、心残りに思っていたところ、万博が閉幕した数日後、大阪市立美術館で特別展「天空のアトラス　イタリア館の至宝」が開催されるという発表がありました。すでに始まっており「ファルネーゼのアトラス」、レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチの「アトランティコの手稿」、ペルジーノの「正義の旗」が展示されています。

２０２５年１０月２５日～２０２６年１月１２日の開催で１０月１８日にチケット販売されると聞き、帰省のついでに観に行けたらいいな、などと軽く考えておりました。

なんとなく嫌な予感はしていたのですが、１８日に美術館のホームページから申し込もうとすると画面がフリーズ…。万博の抽選予約で苦労した記憶がよみがえりました。夕方ごろ、ふと思い出し再度チャレンジすると何とかログインすることができ、チケットを購入しました。そして翌日の１９日には全ての日程と時間が売り切れとなったようです。イタリア館の人気おそるべしです。

 

その後周囲から様々な意見があったのか、チケットの追加販売の発表が行われたようですが、そちらも既に完売しているようです。

ただ１１月１８日以降、美術館券売窓口で当日券の販売が開始されることとなりました。開館日の９時１５分より販売を開始し１人２枚までの「入場時間券」が配られます。ただ当日券には枚数の制限があり、無くなり次第販売終了とのことです。

 

また１１月２１日以降の金、土、日、祝日は１９時まで開館時間が延長されるそうですが（１２月１３日、１２月２０日を除く）色々と変更される可能性があるため随時確認が必要かもしれません。

 

特別展を既に訪れた人によりますと、イタリア館で使用されていた映像や音楽が流れ、雰囲気がよく再現されているのだそうです。また美術館らしく専門家による展示作品の詳細な解説もみられるとのこと。

 

それにしましても美術館のチケット購入ってこんなに難しかったかなと思ってしまいます。もちろん万博の影響もあるのでしょうが、他の美術館でも人気の展覧会はすぐに完売の傾向があるようです。日本人の芸術への熱量が高まっているともいえるのでしょうか。

 

大阪市立美術館は動物園の横ということもあり個人的に思い出は多いのですが、駅のポスターを見てふらりと入ったフェルメール展が特に印象に残っています。当時、特に絵画に興味があった訳ではないのですが、今調べてみますと「フェルメールとその時代展」という特別展覧会で「青いターバンの少女（真珠の耳飾りの少女）」や「地理学者」「天秤を持つ婦人」など贅沢な展示だったようで、実物を見ることができてラッキーでした。そんなに混雑していた印象もなく「青いターバンの少女」の瞳に釘付けになり、まじまじと眺めていたのを覚えています。

 

美術館の建物が今年リニューアルされたのでそちらを見るのも楽しみです。なんと今回天球のアトラスの「顔はめパネル！」があるのだとか。大阪…だからでしょうか。顔をはめて撮影する勇気があればいいのですが…。

The excitement of the Osaka-Kansai Expo feels like a distant memory now, yet it’s only been about a month since it closed. Long lines formed daily at the pavilions, but the most popular one was the “Italy Pavilion,” where wait times reportedly reached up to eight hours. This was seen as a testament to Italy’s serious commitment to the Expo.

Mario Battani, who also served as the Italian government representative, stated, “Japan built a wonderful pavilion for us at the 2015 Milan Expo. We wanted to surprise Japan, a country that values authentic quality, by bringing many precious artworks.”

 

I ultimately couldn’t enter the Italian Pavilion, which I regretted. Then, a few days after the Expo closed, it was announced that the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts would host a special exhibition: “Atlas in the Sky: Treasures from the Italian Pavilion.” It would feature the Farnese Atlas, Leonardo da Vinci’s “Atlantic Codex,” and Perugino’s “Banner of Justice.”

Hearing it would run from October 25, 2025, to January 12, 2026, with tickets going on sale October 18, I casually thought it would be nice to see it while visiting my hometown.

I had a vague sense of foreboding, but when I tried to apply via the museum’s website on the 18th, the screen froze… Memories of struggling with the Expo lottery reservation came flooding back. Around evening, I suddenly remembered and tried again, managing to log in and purchase tickets. Then, by the next day, the 19th, it seemed all dates and times were sold out. The popularity of the Italian Pavilion is truly formidable.

 

After that, perhaps due to various opinions from the public, an announcement was made about additional tickets being sold, but those too seem to have already sold out.

However, starting November 18th, same-day tickets will be sold at the museum ticket counter. Sales begin at 9:15 AM on opening days, and “time-slot tickets” (limited to two per person) will be distributed. There is a limit on the number of same-day tickets available, and sales end once they are gone.

 

Also, starting November 21st, opening hours will be extended until 7:00 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (except December 13th and December 20th). Since various changes are possible, it’s necessary to check the latest information regularly.

 

According to those who have already visited the special exhibition, the atmosphere is well recreated with the use of video and music originally employed in the Italian Pavilion. Furthermore, as befits a museum, detailed explanations of the exhibited works by experts are also available.

 

Still, I can’t help but wonder if buying museum tickets has always been this difficult. Of course, the Expo’s influence is likely a factor, but it seems popular exhibitions at other museums also tend to sell out quickly. Perhaps it reflects a growing passion for art among Japanese people.

Personally, I have many memories tied to the Osaka City Museum of Art, located next to the zoo. One particularly memorable visit was the Vermeer exhibition I stumbled into after seeing a poster at the station. I wasn’t particularly interested in painting back then, but looking it up now, it was a special exhibition called “Vermeer and His Times,” featuring luxurious displays like “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” “The Geographer,” and “Woman with a Balance.” I was lucky to see the originals. I don’t recall it being overly crowded, and I remember being completely transfixed by the eyes of “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” staring at her intently.

 

The museum building was renovated this year, so I’m looking forward to seeing that too. Apparently, this time they have a “face-in-the-hole panel” for Atlas on the Celestial Globe! Osaka… maybe that’s why? I wish I had the courage to stick my face in it for a photo…
