最近、よく昔のことを思い出すスタッフＴですが、
学生時代は東京で過ごしておりました。
 
当時の下宿先は、畑の真ん中！って感じのところでしだったんですよ。
新宿駅から中央線に乗って、国分寺で乗り換えて、
その時点でもう都区内ではないですが、周辺は畑って・・・
確かに数駅で東村山、そう埼玉県になっちゃうような場所でしたね。
(東村山…志村けんさんの大ヒット曲で有名になりましたね＾＾；)
 
住んでいた場所はもちろんですが、
他にも印象に残っている街はいくつかあります。
国分寺、三鷹、荻窪、恋ヶ窪、そして吉祥寺もその一つ、
 
その頃のアルバイト先は吉祥寺駅近くのビル３階の英会話教室。
（当時は教えちゃいませんでしたよ。受け付けです。）
吉祥寺は井の頭線の乗り入れ駅でもありアクセスも良く、
国際基督教大学・東大・慶應・一橋…と思えば錚々たる学生さんたちが通っておりました。
 
その同じビルの２階にジャズ喫茶があったんですが、
バイトの前後によく立ち寄っておりました。
今では音楽を聴こうと思ったら配信アプリですか？
その当時はCDさえありません～レコードです。そう、レコード！
お若い方は実物見たことないって方もいらっしゃるかもですね。
 
針を落とすときの独特のノイズ…
セロニアス・モンク、、マイルス・デイヴィス、アート・ペッパー、ビリー・ホリデー…
今時のライトＪＡＺＺとは違ってヘビーな黒人哀歌って感じの重厚な曲の数々をBGMに
本を読んだり、課題の構図をまとめたり、ジャズ喫茶って大抵薄暗いんですが、
その分、集中できた気がします。

他に吉祥寺でよく行くお店に『まめ蔵』さんがありました。
吉祥寺でカレーと言えば、その名前が上がるほどの店です。
 
もちろん料理も美味しいんですが、
なんと言ってもオーナーの人柄が素晴らしいんですね。
そこで知り合った皆さんと何回かグループ展でご一緒させていただきましたが、
彫刻、日本画、デザイン、舞踏とジャンルを超えた集いでございました。
調べてみると今でも同じ場所にありますね。
 
実は、東京の街中へはコロナの前から１０年以上行けてません。
東日本の震災時、出張で訪れていた家人が帰宅困難者になってから、
実家に帰省する乗り換えで駅を利用する以外は、
不要不急の立寄りはしないようになってしまいました。
 
いつかは一度、
再訪したいなぁ、と思いつつ＿

Recently, Staff T often remembers the old days,
I spent my school days in Tokyo
The boarding house at that time was in the middle of the field! It was like that.
Take the Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station and change at Kokubunji,
At that point, it wasn’t in Tokyo anymore, but the surrounding area was a field …
Certainly it was a place that would become Higashimurayama, so Saitama prefecture, at a few stations.
(It became famous for Ken Shimura’s blockbuster song ^^;)

At that time, my part-time job was an English conversation class on the 3rd floor of a building near Kichijoji Station.
(I didn’t tell you at that time. It’s accepted.)
Kichijoji is also a boarding station for the Inokashira line and is easily accessible.
International Christian University, the University of Tokyo, Keio University, Hitotsubashi University … I thought there were a lot of students attending.

There was a jazz cafe on the second floor of the same building.
I used to drop in before and after my part-time job.

Is it a distribution app now if you want to listen to music?
At that time, I didn’t even have a CD-it was a record. Yes, record!
Some young people may have never seen it in person.

Unique noise when dropping the needle …
Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Art Pepper, Billie Holiday …
Unlike the current light jazz, a number of heavy songs that feel like heavy black lamentations are used as BGM.
Reading books, composing assignments, and jazz cafes are usually dim,
I feel that I was able to concentrate accordingly.

Another shop I often go to in Kichijoji was “Mamezo”.
Speaking of curry in Kichijoji, it’s a store whose name goes up.

Of course the food is delicious, but
After all, the personality of the owner is wonderful.
I’ve been with everyone I met there several times at group exhibitions,
It was a gathering that transcended genres such as sculpture, Japanese painting, design, butoh.
It’s still in the same place.
