まずはじめに続々と台風が発生しています、この影響で各地で避難情報なども発令されているようですので、どうか皆さま少しでも身の危険を感じましたら避難をためらわないでください。

 

それでは本題に戻りまして・・

この間、夏の風物詩「覚王山日泰寺納涼盆おどり」に行って参りました。

 

 

ここ数年は新型コロナウイルスのため中止されていたそうですが、４年ぶりの開催ということで家族連れやご夫婦、子供たちと多くの方で賑わっていました。

日泰寺は通常１７時閉門ですので、夜の日泰寺は少し幻想的な雰囲気でした。

 

盆踊りの起源は平安時代中期、当時活躍していた僧侶により「節に合わせて念仏を唱える」という思考が広まり、念仏に合わせて踊るようになったことが盆踊り誕生のきっかけになったと言われています。

このときはまだ「念仏踊り」と呼ばれていて、先祖を供養する盂蘭盆会（うらぼんえ）、今で言うお盆と結びついたことで盆踊りとして確立していったのです。

最近の盆踊りはＪＰＯＰに合わせてみんなで陽気に踊るイメージでしたが、盆踊り自体にはとても大切な意味が込められていることを皆さまご存じでしょうか？

それは”お盆に帰ってきた先祖の霊を迎え送る”というもの。踊りを通して先祖への想いを馳せ供養をしていたのです。

しかし時が経つにつれて仏教行事的な意味合いは薄れ、鎌倉時代中期には娯楽的な意味を持つようになり江戸時代には人々の交流のきっかけとして各地で親しまれるようになったのだとか。

他にも盆踊りというと、やぐらを囲んで踊ったり、提灯の明かりなどにも実は意味が込められています。

やぐらを設置する理由には盂蘭盆会が大きく関係しているそうで、盂蘭盆会の習慣は地域や仏教の宗派によってさまざまですが、一般的には盆花や季節の野菜、果物をお供えし、門前で麻幹（おがら）を燃やし迎え火を焚いて先祖の霊をお迎えします。そして、送り火を焚いて先祖の霊をお送りします。

盆踊りの際にやぐらを設置するのは、盂蘭盆会にて先祖を送り迎える際に焚く火をやぐらに取り付けられた提灯などで再現したり、その明かりで先祖と会話するためなのです。

 

 

日泰寺納涼盆踊りも日本の風情を感じてとても素晴らしかったですが、やはり日本の三大盆踊りと言われる”阿波踊り”や”郡上八幡盆踊り”などもいつか見に行きたいですね～。

日本に古くから伝わる伝統行事がこれから先もずっと語り継がれ、楽しめますように。

The other day, I went to the summer tradition “Kakuozan Nittaiji Noryo Bon Odori”.

It seems that the past few years have been canceled due to the new coronavirus, but since it was held for the first time in four years, it was crowded with families, couples, and children.

Nittaiji usually closes at 17:00, so the atmosphere of Nittaiji at night was a bit magical.

 

It is said that the origin of Bon Odori dates back to the middle of the Heian period, when monks who were active at the time spread the idea of “chanting the Nembutsu according to the verses,” and began dancing to the sound of the Nembutsu. increase.

At that time, it was still called “Nenbutsu Odori”, and it was established as a Bon Odori because it was associated with Urabon-e, which is a memorial service for ancestors, and what is now called Obon.

Recently, Bon Odori has an image of everyone dancing cheerfully according to JPOP, but do you know that Bon Odori itself has a very important meaning?

It is said to “welcome and send off the spirits of ancestors who have returned to Obon”. Through dance, people used to pay tribute to their ancestors.

However, as time passed, the meaning of Buddhist events faded, and in the middle of the Kamakura period, it became more of a recreational meaning.

In addition, when we say Bon Odori, we dance around a yagura (yagura) and the lights of lanterns actually have meaning.

The reason for setting up the yagura is said to be largely related to the urabon festival, and the customs of the urabon festival vary depending on the region and Buddhist sect, but in general, offerings of flowers, seasonal vegetables, and fruits are held in front of the gate. Ogara is burned and a mukaebi is lit to welcome the spirits of the ancestors. Then, we light the Okuribi and send off the spirits of our ancestors.

The purpose of setting up a yagura during Bon Odori is to recreate the fire that is lit during the Urabon festival when the ancestors are sent off, using lanterns attached to the yagura, and to communicate with the ancestors by the light.

Nittai-ji Noryo Bon Odori was also very wonderful because I could feel the atmosphere of Japan.

I hope that the traditional events that have been handed down from ancient times in Japan will continue to be talked about and enjoyed for many years to come.
