先日ですが、行ってきました豪雪の城崎温泉へ。なんとか行ってこれたという感じだったのですが、この時期の城崎温泉といえばもちろんカニと温泉。

それにしても大寒波の到来にさすがに心配ではありましたが、巷のお天気情報によりますと30年に一度の寒波到来ということで、交通機関の運行状況は最後まで気になっておりました。

と言いますのも今回のもう一つの楽しみが、JR西日本の特急かにカニはまかぜ号の観光列車「はなかり」車両であります。こちらのチケットはとるのがなかなかでして、今回チケットを手に入れるために、いわゆる駅窓口ではじめて「10時打ち」に（JRの列車指定席券が発売される1カ月前の午前10時10分00秒に緑の窓口で駅員さんへ端末発信操作で人気チケットを予約する行為）にチャレンジしてみました。

「10時打ち」、鉄道好きの方のネタとして聞いたことはあるのですが、如何せん便数と席数が少ないということで、人生初10時打ちであります。

とりあえずチケット発券の前日に、まずは自宅から近くて朝でも窓口がそんなに混んでないであろう対応可の駅を探しまして、窓口にてその旨を相談しました。そもそも別のJR会社ですし、シートの指定もちょっとわかりずらく、駅員さんもはじめての列車のようです。

そしていよいよ発券当日朝、30分前に駅到着。予想通り通勤客の方は改札に流れていますが、窓口は人は誰もいなくてひとまずは安心。一旦駅員の方が予行演習的に端末操作を確認し、内容等を確認。

5分前くらいでしょうか、窓口のところに「3分ほどしばしお待ちください」の札が出され一旦窓口が閉まります。ここですでにこちらも緊張がはしります。

先ほどの確認作業はベテラン駅員さんでしたが、10時打ち本番前に端末操作は若手の駅員さんに交代したのは笑えましたが笑、最後は若い駅員さんの指先の瞬発力にかけるしかありません。2，3人の駅員さんと窓口のガラス越しに祈るように見守る自分との時間が来ました。

窓口の端末（マルス）がおされ、窓の向こうの駅員さんが「とれました！」と、ガッツポーズでこちらに合図が。それを受けて年甲斐もなく歓喜に沸く一おばさんでして、傍らから見たら、はて？と思われる不思議な歓喜につつまれた小さな駅でありました。いやぁ、達成感と感謝の気持ちしかありませんね。

それにしても、10時打ちの勝負に勝てたことは自分はそうなのですが、駅員さんも嬉しい瞬間なのだなということはとてもわかりました笑。それと共に人生まだまだ経験してないことを経験してみるものだな…などと噛み締めながら発券したチケットを手に取る自分でありました。

The other day, I made it to Kinosaki Onsen, which was buried in heavy snow. It felt like I barely managed to get there, but Kinosaki Onsen this time of year is all about crab and hot springs.

Even so, the arrival of the major cold wave had me genuinely worried. According to the weather reports, it was a once-in-30-years cold snap, so I was concerned about transportation schedules right up until the last minute.

You see, another highlight of this trip was the “Hanakari” car on JR West’s limited express Kani Kani Hamakaze sightseeing train. Getting tickets for this was quite the challenge. To secure mine this time, I tried the so-called “10 o’clock booking” for the first time at the station ticket window. This involves making a reservation for popular tickets at exactly 10:10:00 AM one month before JR reserved seat tickets go on sale, by having a station attendant enter the request into the terminal at the green ticket window.

I’d heard about the “10 o’clock booking” as a thing among rail enthusiasts, but given the limited number of departures and seats, this was my very first attempt.

The day before ticket issuance, I first scouted a nearby station where the ticket window wouldn’t be too crowded in the morning. I consulted the staff there about my plan. It was a different JR company, seat selection was a bit confusing, and the station staff seemed unfamiliar with this particular train too.

Then, on the morning of the ticket purchase, I arrived at the station 30 minutes early. As expected, commuters were streaming through the ticket gates, but the ticket window was completely empty – a relief for now. The station staff member first did a practice run, checking the terminal operations and confirming the details.

About five minutes before the sale, a sign saying “Please wait a moment, about 3 minutes” appeared at the window, and it closed temporarily. At this point, I was already feeling the tension.

The earlier checks were done by a veteran station attendant, but it was amusing—though not really funny—that a younger attendant took over the terminal operations just before the 10:00 AM opening. In the end, it all came down to the young attendant’s finger speed. The moment arrived where I watched through the ticket window glass, praying, while two or three attendants worked.

The terminal (MARS) at the window was pressed, and the station attendant on the other side signaled to me with a fist pump, shouting, “Got it!” Receiving that, I, an old lady, erupted in joy unbecoming of my age. It was a small station enveloped in a strange, joyful atmosphere that must have seemed puzzling to anyone watching. Well, I felt nothing but a sense of accomplishment and gratitude.

Still, while I won the 10 o’clock battle, I could tell the station attendant was genuinely happy too, haha. At the same time, I found myself reflecting on how life still holds experiences I haven’t had yet… savoring that thought as I took the ticket in hand.

Next time, I’ll share my thoughts on visiting the bitterly cold Kinosaki Onsen aboard the “Hanakari,” the sightseeing train of the limited express Kani Hamakaze. Please do read it next time.

その光景を見かけるたびに、何回も言わずにいられない。

「これはシール戦争だな」と…。

今や、小中学生の女子だけでなく男の子もシール交換に夢中です。きっかけとなったのは、立体感と透明感が特徴の「ボンボンドロップシール」（ボンドロ）。発売から約１年半で累計出荷数は、なんと驚異の１０００万枚を突破。子供の頃シール交換に夢中になった大人も加わって、空前のブームとなり、皆が血眼になってシール探しに奔走している日々のようです。

「ボンボンドロップシール」見かけたのは、たしか8月か9月頃だったと思います。まだブームが始まってない頃で、本当にたくさんの商品が売り場にありました。

子供と「懐かしい！可愛いねー」とその値段を見てびっくり。シール1枚になんと500円…。
高いので一枚ずつ買って、「また次に買えばいいか…」

と言ったすぐ後から見事に売り場から消えました（笑）

どこを探してもないし、入荷未定のお知らせばかり。入荷のタイミングにも出会えず、あのとき何故500円という値段に足踏みしたのか…。喉から手が出るほど欲しいわけではないけれど、手に入らないと分かると悔しくなる謎理論…。

いつでも買えるものは節約したいけれど、滅多に出会えないものには奮発してしまう心理。人間って不思議なものですね…。

そんなことを思っていた先日、とある文具店で偶然にも出会えまして。お一人様1点限りということで、写真だけ撮らせていただいて（笑）こそっと購入してきました。

一度見たら忘れられない“ぷっくり感”と“ツヤツヤ感”が、子どもだけでなく大人まで夢中になる「ボンボンドロップシール」は、まるでお菓子のボンボンのような立体的フォルムが特徴で、シールというより“小さなアクセサリー”のようで、光に当たるとツヤっと輝きます。

その秘密は、ベースと上面の両方に印刷を施した二層構造にあるようです。中には透明の樹脂が詰められており、ぷっくりとツヤツヤ感を演出しています。

「ただのシール」ではなくいわば「貼れるデコパーツ」といったところでしょうか。

これが、平成世代の「ファンシー文具」の記憶を呼び起こし、令和世代の「新しいかわいい」として再評価されたようであります。

ボンドロが他と一線を画すのは、「接着剤がいらないデコパーツ」というコンセプト。

スマホケースや鏡、トレカケースなど、平らな面にぺたっと貼るだけで、自分だけのオリジナルアイテムを持つことができ、貼って剥がせる粘着力もあるため、気軽に試せるデコ体験として人気が広がりました。

「かわいいを簡単に楽しめる」という手軽さが、多忙な大人女子たちの心をつかんだ理由の一つとも言われています。

しかし、ブームが来ると起こる弊害も多々あるようで…。ボンドロシールの偽物を持っていると、バカにされるという怖い話も耳にします。そんな･･･シールってもっと平和な世界の雑貨じゃないの、というのが年配者の感想なのですが。

Twitterなどでは、シール買うのに4時間待ったとか…。そりゃ、定価で買いたいですよね。転売ヤーからなんて買いたくない。けれど、4時間も並ぶなら、ちょっと値段が高くてもメルカリやAmazonで買って、その時間を違う時間に充てたい…そんな気持ちも理解できます。

そんなこんなで、次に出会えるのはいつになるかは分かりませんが、可愛いシールを見て次を気長に待ちたいと思います。

Every time I see that scene, I can’t help but say it over and over…

“The sticker war is intense!!”

Nowadays, it’s not just elementary and junior high school girls—boys are also crazy about trading stickers. It all started with “Bombon Drop Stickers” (Bondro), known for their 3D effect and transparency. Within about a year and a half of release, cumulative shipments surpassed an astonishing 10 million sheets. Adults who were obsessed with sticker trading as kids have joined in, creating an unprecedented boom. It seems like everyone is frantically searching for stickers these days.

“Bombon Drop Sticker”—I think it was around August or September. Before the boom really started, there were tons of them on the shelves.

My kid and I were like, “Oh, nostalgic! So cute!” Then we saw the price and were shocked. A single sticker was a whopping 500 yen…
It was so expensive we bought just one, thinking, “We can get more next time…”

Right after we said that, they vanished from the shelves completely. (laugh)

No matter where I looked, they were nowhere to be found, and all I saw were notices saying “No restock date set.” I never caught them restocking, and now I regret hesitating over that 500 yen price tag… It’s not like I desperately wanted them, but once I knew I couldn’t get them, I felt this inexplicable frustration…

We want to save money on things we can buy anytime, but we splurge on things we rarely encounter. Humans are such mysterious creatures…

Just the other day, while pondering this, I stumbled upon it at a stationery store. With a limit of one per customer, I quietly snatched one up.

That unforgettable “plumpness” and “glossy sheen” captivate not just kids, but adults too.

The “Bonbon Drop Sticker” features a three-dimensional form reminiscent of candy bonbons. More like a “tiny accessory” than a sticker, it glistens beautifully when hit by light.

The secret seems to lie in its two-layer structure, printed on both the base and top surfaces. Inside, transparent resin is filled to create that plump, glossy effect.

It’s not just a “sticker,” but rather a “decorative part you can stick on.”

This seems to have evoked memories of “fancy stationery” for the Heisei generation and been reevaluated as a “new kind of cute” for the Reiwa generation.

What sets Bondros apart is its concept as “decorative parts that require no adhesive.”

Simply stick them onto flat surfaces like phone cases, mirrors, or trading card holders to create your own original items. Their peel-and-stick adhesive allows for easy experimentation, fueling their popularity as a hassle-free decorating experience.

This “effortless way to enjoy cuteness” is said to be one reason they captured the hearts of busy adult women.

However, booms often bring their own set of problems… I’ve even heard scary stories about people getting ridiculed for owning fake Bondoro stickers. Honestly… aren’t stickers supposed to be a peaceful little part of life? That’s what older folks tend to think.

On Twitter, people are saying things like waiting four hours just to buy stickers… Of course, you’d want to buy them at retail price. No one wants to buy from scalpers. But if you have to wait four hours in line, it’s understandable to think, “I’d rather buy them on Mercari or Amazon, even if they’re a bit pricier, and use that time for something else…”

So, who knows when I’ll encounter them next, but I’ll patiently wait for the next time while admiring these cute stickers.

寒い日が続いておりますが、なんと今日は「日本最低気温の日」なんだそうな…。

日本最低気温は、1902年(明治35年)1月25日、北海道・旭川市で−41.0℃ を観測されました。100年以上たった現在でも更新されていない、日本の公式観測史上もっとも低い気温なのだそう。 地球温暖化と言われて久しいですが、最高気温は更新されても、最低気温が破られることは、今後ないかもしれませんね。

寒い日には、必ず飲みたくなる温かい飲み物。昨日のスタッフYのブログの紅茶もそうですが、お茶やコーヒー、ホットココアなど寒いときに好んで飲むものは人それぞれですよね。

とりあえず、どんな飲み物もホットにすれば体が温まって良いだろうと思っておりましたが、実はそうではないようなのです。そういったことに無頓着に過ごしてきましたが、年を重ねるにつれ、少し丁寧に過ごしていこうと思ったり思わなかったり…。

体を温める飲み物として思いつくのは「白湯」。その他、生姜湯、紅茶・ウーロン茶・ほうじ茶・玄米茶などなど。また、ココアや、シナモンやクローブなどのスパイスを使った「チャイ」もありましたね。特にチャイに入れるシナモンは私のような極度の冷え性に良いんだそうです。

逆に飲みすぎ注意な体を冷やす飲み物は、コーヒー、緑茶、麦茶、ホットミルクなど。

我が家、一年中麦茶を飲んでいるのですが、麦茶はノンカフェインですが、原料である大麦が、体を冷やす作用があるのだそう。また、利尿作用のあるカリウムも多く含まれ、体の熱を体外に排出する働きがあるため体を冷やしてしまうのだとか。これは、ちょっと改めなくては。

また、好き嫌いが分かれますが、「のむ点滴」と言われる甘酒も身体を温めます。

美容や健康に良いと注目されていて、効果としては疲れを癒し身体を温める効果があります。甘酒には、ブドウ糖、必須アミノ酸、パントテン酸、ビタミンB1、B2、B6、ビオチミンや腸内乳酸菌のエサとなるオリゴ糖、食物繊維などが含まれています。「のむ点滴」と言われるほど栄養豊富な甘酒は、熱中症対策の水分補給にも最適な飲み物とされていて、江戸時代には「甘酒売り」なんていう露天商もいたようで、冬は温めて、夏は冷やしてと、昔は一年中飲まれていたそうなのです。

そんな甘酒ですが、実は誰でも簡単に作ることができます。 材料はたったこれだけ。

1.　お茶碗半分ぐらいのご飯

2.　水少々

3.　100gの麹

たったこれだけでも一人なら十分な量が作れます。麹は良いもので100g100円-200円程度なので、めちゃくちゃコスパがいいです。 そして、必要な道具は炊飯器のみ。

安く簡単に作れる甘酒ですが、難点が一つだけあります。それは時間です。出来上がるまでに大体10時間ぐらいかかりますので、その間炊飯器が使えないという…。休みの日に作ればまあ問題ないでしょうけど。

甘酒が苦手な人には、最近ではフルーツ甘酒やココア味の甘酒など、飲みやすく作られたものもたくさんあります。

とは言ったものの、実は私、健康と美容のためにはと思い、いろいろチャレンジしてみましたが、甘酒はあまり得意ではなかったみたいです。

身体を温めるというとショウガやキムチなどの唐辛子のイメージも強かったのですが、どれが効果的か、いろいろ楽しみながら飲んでみたいですね。

大寒を迎え、まだまだ厳しい寒さは続くようです。ぜひ簡単なことから取り入れてみて、寒い冬を心地よく。どうぞ暖かくしてお過ごしくださいね。

It’s been a string of cold days, but apparently today is “Japan’s Lowest Temperature Day”…

Japan’s lowest temperature was recorded on January 25, 1902 (Meiji 35), in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido: −41.0°C. Even now, over 100 years later, it remains the lowest temperature in Japan’s official observation history, never surpassed. While global warming has been discussed for a long time, even if record highs are broken, it seems unlikely the record low will ever be surpassed.

On cold days, you inevitably crave a warm drink. Like the tea mentioned in Staff Y’s blog yesterday, everyone has their own favorite cold-weather drinks—tea, coffee, hot cocoa, and so on.

I always assumed any hot drink would warm you up nicely, but apparently that’s not always the case. I’ve lived rather carelessly about such things, but as I get older, I sometimes think I should be a bit more mindful… or maybe not.

When thinking of drinks that warm the body, “hot water” comes to mind. Others include ginger tea, black tea, oolong tea, roasted green tea, genmaicha, and so on. There’s also cocoa, and “chai” made with spices like cinnamon and cloves. Apparently, the cinnamon in chai is especially good for people like me who suffer from extreme cold sensitivity.

Conversely, drinks that cool the body and should be consumed in moderation include coffee, green tea, barley tea, and hot milk.

My family drinks barley tea year-round. While barley tea is caffeine-free, the barley itself apparently has a cooling effect on the body. It also contains high levels of potassium, which has a diuretic effect, helping expel body heat and thus cooling you down. I really should cut back on that.

Also, while tastes vary, sweet rice wine (amazake), often called “drinkable IV drip,” warms the body.

It’s gaining attention for beauty and health benefits, specifically for relieving fatigue and warming the body. Amazake contains glucose, essential amino acids, pantothenic acid, vitamins B1, B2, B6, biotin, oligosaccharides that feed intestinal lactic acid bacteria, and dietary fiber. So nutrient-rich it’s called a “drinkable IV,” amazake is considered an ideal beverage for hydration against heatstroke. During the Edo period, there were even street vendors called “amazake sellers.” It was apparently drunk year-round, served warm in winter and chilled in summer.

But making amazake is actually incredibly simple for anyone. You only need these few ingredients:

1. About half a rice bowl of cooked rice

2. A little water

3. 100g of koji

This small amount is enough to make a sufficient quantity for one person. Good quality koji costs around ¥100-200 per 100g, making it incredibly cost-effective. And the only tool you need is a rice cooker.

While it’s cheap and easy to make, there’s one drawback: time. It takes about 10 hours to complete, meaning you can’t use your rice cooker during that period… Making it on a day off shouldn’t be a problem, though.

For those who aren’t fond of plain amazake, there are now many easier-to-drink varieties available, like fruit-flavored amazake or cocoa-flavored amazake.

That said, I actually tried various things thinking it would be good for health and beauty, but it seems I’m not really a fan of amazake.

When it comes to warming the body, I also have strong associations with ginger and spicy foods like kimchi. I’d like to enjoy trying different options to see which are most effective.

With the arrival of the coldest part of winter, the harsh cold seems set to continue. Why not start with simple things to make this cold winter more comfortable? Please stay warm.

このところ、「和紅茶」なるものがメニューにあるカフェやお店が増えてきたように思います。いつもちょっと試したくなるんですよね…笑。先日もTVでそのような取材をした番組をみまして、「和紅茶」ブーム、ちょっと来ているようですね。

“和”紅茶は、名の通り日本産の茶葉でつくった紅茶のことなのですが、日本国内で生産されるため「国産紅茶」「地紅茶」とも呼ばれることがあります。主に中国種といわれるチャノキから摘んだ小さな葉で作られ、地域や気候、生産者による違いはあるものの、比較的渋みが少なくまろやかな味わいが多いのが特徴のようです。

わざわざ和紅茶を作るための木を植えたのかな？と思いがちですが、実はあの日本で昔から親しまれている国民的なお茶の緑茶と同じチャノキからできています。味・香り・水色と特徴も緑茶とははっきりと異なる紅茶ですが、その違いは加工方法の違いによるものであります。

同じ茶葉を発酵させて作られるもの（発酵茶）が紅茶、発酵していないもの（不発酵茶）が緑茶となります。ちなみにその真ん中の半分発酵したお茶（半発酵茶）は烏龍茶になります。これを知ると、お茶の木って様々なテイストを生み出す可能性だらけの木ということにじわじわと感心します。

現在、和紅茶の約7割を生産する静岡県を中心に、鹿児島や九州全土でも多く生産されているようでして、日本生まれの紅茶専用品種の代表格としては、「べにふうき」をはじめ「べにひかり」「べにほまれ」などがあげられます。実は「べにふうき」の和紅茶を珍しいなと思って買ったことがあるのですが、それが自分も和紅茶が好きになったきっかけになりました。

紅茶といえど、華やかで強い独特な香りが特徴的な海外の紅茶とは違って、和紅茶は、どことなく繊細な柑橘類のような爽やかな香りを楽しむことができます。先入観もあってなのか緑茶をルーツとするテイストがほのかにあるようなないような気もするのですが、そのルーツやテイストを「そうだな…」などと、目を瞑って、頭を真っ白にして、舌や香りでじっくり確かめたくなる面白さもあります。

また、いろいろ調べてみたのですが、紅茶と言えどいれる器は、もちろんティーポットからティーカップで楽しんでいたり、急須から煎茶器のような器でもよいようで、スタイルはいたってフリー。そこも楽しいポイントのようにも思えます。

そしてどんな食べ物とあうかなと思ったのですが、個人的には洋菓子や和菓子、はたまたお料理の後にもどれも大丈夫でして、どの食べ物の味ともあう相性の良さに器の大きさを感じるのですが、食べた後の最後は必ず和紅茶でしめたくなるんですよね笑。

このところの寒さで、お茶はめっきり温かいものを飲んでいる方も多いかと思われますが、コーヒ、緑茶いちょっと飽きたな…なんて時に、和紅茶、ちょっと変えてみても楽しいかもしれませんね。

Lately, I’ve noticed more cafes and shops adding “Japanese-style black tea” to their menus. I always feel like giving it a try… haha. Just the other day, I saw a TV program featuring such a trend, and it seems the “Japanese-style black tea” boom is really taking off.

As the name suggests, “Japanese-style black tea” is black tea made from Japanese tea leaves. Since it’s produced domestically, it’s sometimes called “domestic black tea” or “local black tea.” It’s mainly made from small leaves picked from tea plants of the Chinese variety. While there are differences based on region, climate, and producer, it’s generally characterized by a relatively mild astringency and a smooth, mellow flavor.

You might wonder if they planted tea trees specifically for Japanese black tea, but actually, it comes from the same tea plant as green tea, Japan’s beloved national drink. While its taste, aroma, and liquor color are distinctly different from green tea, these differences stem from the processing method.

Teas made by fermenting the same tea leaves (fermented tea) become black tea, while those not fermented (unfermented tea) become green tea. Incidentally, teas fermented halfway (semi-fermented tea) become oolong tea. Knowing this, you gradually come to appreciate how the tea plant is a tree brimming with the potential to create such a variety of tastes.

Currently, about 70% of Japanese black tea is produced in Shizuoka Prefecture, with significant production also occurring in Kagoshima and throughout Kyushu. Representative Japanese black tea varieties include “Benifuki,” “Benihikari,” and “Benihomare.” I actually bought some Benifuki Japanese black tea once, thinking it was rare, and that purchase became my gateway to enjoying Japanese black tea.

Even though it’s black tea, unlike the vibrant, strong, and uniquely aromatic teas from overseas, Japanese black tea offers a somewhat delicate, refreshing citrus-like fragrance. Perhaps due to preconceptions, I sometimes detect a faint hint of its green tea roots in the taste, or maybe not. There’s an intriguing aspect to it that makes you want to close your eyes, clear your mind, and carefully confirm its origins and taste through your tongue and nose, thinking, “Hmm, that’s interesting…”

I also looked into it a bit more. Even though it’s black tea, the vessel you use to brew it is surprisingly free-form. While traditionally enjoyed from a teapot into a teacup, it seems perfectly fine to use a kyusu teapot or even a sencha-style vessel. That flexibility feels like another enjoyable aspect.

As for what foods it pairs well with, personally, I found it went perfectly with Western sweets, Japanese sweets, or even after a meal. It truly feels like a Japanese black tea that showcases its versatility.

With the recent cold weather, I imagine many are drinking hot tea these days. If you’re feeling a bit tired of coffee or green tea… Japanese black tea might be a fun change of pace.

先日、スタッフTのブログにて共通テストにて「ベルばら」にちなんだ問題が出題されたという話題がありましたね。そろそろ解答や試験の動向や解析などのニュースがあがってきております。試験を受けられたみなさんは、出揃った得点に悲喜交々の時を過ごしているかと思いますが、ひとまずは本当にお疲れ様でした。

二次試験などまだまだ試験が続くと思いますので、体調に気をつけて乗り切ってほしいものです。

さて、今年の共通テストを様々なAIが解いてみたところ、かなりの好成績だったというニュースで聞きました。

結果は、文系・理系科目ともGPT-5.2 Thinkingが97％の得点率、91～94％だったGemini／Claudeに圧勝。一方で、かかった時間はGPTが5時間30分ほど、GeminiとClaude が1時間40分前後と、GPTの3分の1ほどの時間で解いてみせたりとAIにもそれぞれ特徴がでていているようですね。

いずれのAIも共通テスト9割以上なので、どこの大学にも出願は余裕ではあります。

じゃあ、逆になにが間違ったのか？なんて気になってきますが、AIが共通で間違える問題の傾向もわかってきたようです。自分は人文系の教科かな？と予想したのですが、やはりそのような結果のようです。

まず、「テキストは完璧に理解できているのに、図が選べない」という現象があったそうでして。

英語リスニングの「バスの乗り方」の問題で、「後ろから乗って、前から降りる」という手順を全AIが理解していたにもかかわらず、選択肢のバスのイラスト（矢印が前後のドアに向いている図）を選ぶ時に全モデルが誤答したようです。なるほど、答えはでているのにそれを図や空間から論理的に選び出す次の動作につなげたりは、まだまだ至難の業のようですね。

また、国語の小説でも全モデルが誤答した問題があったようして、やはり人間の心情理解の問題でした。

主人公が、理想を捨て安楽な生活を送る自分を「これでいいんだ」と正当化しようとしているとき、母の死に顔が浮かび、心が揺らぐ……というシーンの心情について、正解は「現状への妥協（割り切れない思い）」だが、AIは「過去の過ちへの反省」を選んだようです。

分析した会社によると、「AIは基本的に『間違いは正すべき』『人は反省して成長するもの』という道徳的な学習データを大量に持っています。そのため、人間特有の『悪いと分かっていても正当化してしまう弱さ』や『割り切れない感情』を読み取れず、『反省しているはずだ』という一般論の解釈に逃げてしまった」と解析しています。

それにしても、AIが受けた共通テストの正誤を通していろいろ思うところはありますが、それよりも人間の性質やそれらも複雑で多種多様な生き物なんだな…なんてことが逆にAIに教えられている気もしました。

一般的には間違った選択であっても割り切れない感情をもって選択することなんて日々あることなんて思うのですが、こればっかりは（その選択も個々の判断バイアスもありそうですが）いまのところ生真面目でお利巧さんのAIにはなかなか難しいところなのでしょうか。

だかしかし、AIがいよいよ進化していき、不真面目なデキの悪いAIにあたってしまって「今日は共通テスト解く気分じゃないんだわ…他あたってほしいんだわ。」なんて言われるようになったりすると、AIは生真面目なお利巧さんのままでいてほしい気もしなくもないか…。

とにもかくにも受験生のみなさん、AIのことは一旦置いておいてこの受験、このシーズン全力で乗りきってください。

The other day, Staff T’s blog mentioned that a question related to “The Rose of Versailles” appeared on the Common Test. News about answers, exam trends, and analyses is starting to surface now. For those who took the exam, I imagine you’re experiencing a mix of joy and sorrow as the scores come in, but first and foremost, you’ve all done a great job.

With secondary exams and more tests still ahead, I hope you take care of yourselves and push through.

Now, I heard news that various AIs attempted this year’s Common Test and achieved remarkably high scores.

The results showed GPT-5.2 Thinking achieving a 97% score rate across both humanities and science subjects, decisively outperforming Gemini/Claude, which scored between 91% and 94%. On the other hand, the time taken to solve the test differed significantly: GPT took about 5 hours and 30 minutes, while Gemini and Claude completed it in around 1 hour and 40 minutes – roughly one-third of GPT’s time. This highlights distinct characteristics among the AI systems.

Since all AI systems scored over 90% on the Common Test, they could easily apply to any university.

So, what went wrong? You might wonder. It seems patterns are emerging for questions that all AI systems tend to get wrong. I suspected it might be humanities subjects, and indeed, that appears to be the case.

First, there was a phenomenon where “the text was perfectly understood, but the correct diagram couldn’t be selected.”

In an English listening question about “how to ride a bus,” all AI models understood the procedure: “board from the back, exit from the front.” Yet, when selecting the bus illustration in the answer choices (a diagram with arrows pointing to the front and rear doors), every model got it wrong. Ah, I see. Even when the answer is clear, connecting that to the next action—logically selecting it from a diagram or spatial context—still seems incredibly difficult.

Additionally, there was a Japanese literature question where all models answered incorrectly, again involving human emotional understanding.

In a scene where the protagonist, justifying abandoning ideals for a comfortable life with “This is fine,” sees his mother’s death face and feels conflicted… the correct answer was “Compromise with the present (unresolved feelings),” but the AI chose “Reflection on past mistakes.”

According to the analyzing company, “AI fundamentally possesses vast amounts of moral training data that teaches ‘mistakes should be corrected’ and ‘people grow through reflection.’ Consequently, it couldn’t grasp uniquely human traits like ‘the weakness to justify actions even when knowing they’re wrong’ or ‘unresolved emotions,’ instead resorting to the general interpretation that ‘he must be reflecting.’”

Still, while the AI’s correctness on the common test raises various thoughts, it also made me feel like we’re actually teaching the AI something: that human nature is complex and diverse…

I think it’s common to make choices driven by unresolved emotions, even if they’re generally considered wrong. But this particular aspect (though individual judgment biases likely play a role too) seems quite difficult for our earnest, clever AI for now.

But then again, as AI continues to evolve, if we end up with a careless, poorly performing AI that says things like, “I’m just not in the mood to take the Common Test today… I’d rather do something else,” I might actually start wishing AI would just stay its earnest, clever self

In any case, to all you exam takers out there, put AI aside for now and give this exam season your absolute all.

朝から寒いですね。

全国的に、これから週末にかけて日本列島上空に強い寒気が居座る予想でして、日本海側の広い範囲で雪が降り続くようですね。大雪による道路の大規模な立ち往生などに十分な注意が必要のようですが、寒気が強まるタイミングで太平洋側でも雪の降るところがある見込みのようですので、今から既にびびっているスタッフYの今朝であります。

ところで、寒い時にみなさまはどんな暖をとっていますか？

連続テレビ小説では、島根の寒さに耐えかねたヘブン先生が、リヨさんからいただいた湯たんぽに「アタタカイ！　アア！　スバラシ！」なんて感激したシーンがあったりしましたが、寒さに耐えられないヘブン先生がちょっとキレ気味なのがとても印象的でした。寒さって、確かに気持ちまでもってかれますよね。

いただいた湯たんぽが瀬戸物のかまぼこ型だったのが面白かったのですが、湯たんぽの歴史が意外と古いことを知ってて少々驚きました。始まりは中国の唐の時代のようでして日本には室町時代に伝来。当初は陶器製が主流でしたが、江戸時代には銅製、大正・昭和期にはブリキ製が普及し、現代ではプラスチック製やPVC製が主流となり、電子レンジで加熱できるタイプも登場。電気暖房の普及で一度は減少しますが、エコや防災意識の高まりで再び注目され、多様な素材とデザインで現在も愛用されています。

ちょっと調べてみたのですが、時代物の湯たんぽその形も素材も様々なのでデザインも面白おかしく様々なものが多くありました。素材デザイン問わずお湯の注ぎ口があって、足触りのよい温かくなるものでしたらもうそれは湯たんぽなんだな…笑。

唐の時代の見ず知らずの人、ヘブン先生などなどどの時代も湯たんぽを使っていたであろう方がその温かさに安心して「アタタカイ！　アア！　スバラシ！」なんて言葉がどれにも浮かんでくるようなのは私だけでしょうか。しかもその丸っこいフォルムも相まってどうしてもフフッと笑ってしまうので、そこはどうかお許し願いたいものです。

そして、時代とともに素材や形を変えながらも、その温もりと利便性から現代でも多くの人に愛用され続けている知恵の道具湯たんぽ、これからも少しづつではありますが進化し続けてほしいとも願っております。

It’s cold since morning, isn’t it?

Nationwide, a strong cold front is expected to linger over the Japanese archipelago through the weekend, with snow continuing to fall across a wide area on the Sea of Japan side. While we need to be very careful about large-scale traffic jams on roads due to heavy snow, it seems snow is also expected to fall on the Pacific side when the cold front intensifies. So, I’m already freaking out this morning.

By the way, how do you all keep warm when it’s cold?

In the morning TV drama, there was a scene where Mr. Heaven, unable to endure the cold in Shimane, was thrilled by the hot water bottle he received from Riyo-san, exclaiming, “So warm! Ahh! Wonderful!” It was quite memorable seeing Mr. Heaven, who couldn’t stand the cold, getting a bit irritable. The cold really does get to you, doesn’t it?

I thought it was funny that the hot water bottle I received was a ceramic fish cake-shaped one, but I was a bit surprised to learn the history of hot water bottles is surprisingly old. It seems they originated in China during the Tang Dynasty and were introduced to Japan during the Muromachi period. Initially, ceramic ones were mainstream, but copper ones became popular in the Edo period, and tinplate ones in the Taisho and Showa periods. Nowadays, plastic and PVC ones are mainstream, and types you can heat in the microwave have also appeared. Though their use declined with the spread of electric heating, they’ve regained popularity due to growing eco-consciousness and disaster preparedness. They’re still beloved today in diverse materials and designs.

I did a little research and found that vintage hot water bottles come in all sorts of shapes and materials, with many designs being quite whimsical and varied. Regardless of material or design, if it has a spout for pouring hot water and provides that pleasant warmth against your skin, well, that’s a hot water bottle… lol.

With every hot water bottle, I can’t help but imagine someone from the Tang Dynasty—a stranger, or perhaps even Heaven-sensei—feeling its warmth and exclaiming, “So warm! Ahh! Wonderful!” Their words seem to float up from each one. Combined with their round forms, it’s just too funny not to laugh, but please forgive me for that laugh.

Though materials and shapes have changed with the times, the hot water bottle remains a tool of wisdom, cherished by many today for its warmth and convenience. I hope it continues to evolve, bit by bit, for years to come.

先日買取に伺ったお宅でもあったお話ですが、自宅の蔵や押入れなどから骨董品を発見したものの、「付属の箱が見当たらない」ということはありませんか？

一般的に茶道具や掛軸、陶磁器、書画などの骨董品は木でできた「共箱（ともばこ）」と呼ばれる箱に入っていることがほとんどです。そして、ご推察の通り付属の箱がないと価値が下がってしまうこともあります。ですが、箱がない場合でも買取可能な場合がほとんどです。

ということで、本日の「相続と骨董品買取のお話」では、共箱が持つ役割などについてのお話を。

「共箱」とは、美術品や工芸品などが納められている専用の箱で、作品とセットで扱われるものです。
単なる収納箱ではなく、作品そのものの価値を大きく左右する重要な要素となります。
特に、茶道具、掛け軸、陶磁器、刀剣、書画などでは、共箱の有無が買取価格に大きな影響を与えます。

骨董品の共箱には次のような役割があり、それが査定に影響することもあります。

①箱書が価値の裏付けになる

②箱書が中身の情報特定に役立つ

③箱自体に価値がある場合もある

骨董品が収納されている共箱には「箱書（はこがき）」と呼ばれる文字が記されていることが多いです。

箱書には作者の署名や印鑑が押印されており、作品名や制作年代などが記されています。これは、いわば作品を証明する「保証書」のような役割を持ちます。もちろん中身がすり替えられていたり、箱書も偽物であったりする可能性もあるため、鑑定は必要です。しかし本物である場合、箱なしよりも箱ありの方が価値が上がります。

また、箱書が施された骨董品の共箱は、それ自体にも価値があります。有名な作品・作者であればあるほど価値がプラスされるかもしれません。ただし、そもそも共箱が作られていない骨董品も多く存在します。さまざまな理由から、作者が準備していない場合があるからです。ですが、箱なしだからといって、作品の価値がなくなったり、価値を証明できないわけではないので、ご安心ください。

ひと口に「共箱」と言っても、いくつかの種類があります。

最も価値が高いのは、作者本人が制作した箱書き（箱に書き込まれた情報）のある「共箱」です。

ほかに、作者本人ではないものの、権威ある鑑定家や団体や弟子などが箱書きをした「識箱（しきばこ）」や、家元や宗匠など権威ある人物が箱書を記した「書付箱（かけつけばこ）」があります。

これらとは別に、「合箱（あわせばこ）」と呼ばれるものがあります。
これは、作品とは無関係の箱で、後から保管のために付けられたものです。
合箱は作品の価値を直接証明するものではありませんが、時代相応の材質や造りの良い、質の高い合箱であれば、買取価格に多少プラスの影響を与えるかもしれません。
例えば、明治時代の漆器の箱など、それ自体にアンティークとしての価値があるものもあります。

ご祖父母やご両親から譲られた古びた木箱。普段何気なく見ているその箱、実は「共箱」と呼ばれる、骨董品の世界では非常に重要な存在でした。その箱自体にも、もしかしたら意外な価値が隠されているかもしれません。

作品が本物であることを保証し、どんな作品なのか探すヒントになり、さらに箱ありの方が希少価値も上がります。査定を依頼する際、箱がある場合は必ず一緒にお持ちくださいね。

もし、作品と関係のない「合箱（あわせばこ）」などの場合でも査定に影響しません。また、箱がもともとない作品や、箱がなくてもきちんと価値がある場合もあります。ご自宅に眠る箱なしの骨董品、まずは査定を依頼してみてはいかがでしょうか。

The other day, I visited a home to appraise items, and it reminded me of something: Have you ever found antiques in your home’s storage or closets, only to realize the original box is missing?

Generally, antiques like tea ceremony utensils, hanging scrolls, ceramics, and calligraphy/paintings are almost always housed in wooden boxes called “tomo-bako” (accompanying boxes). And as you might guess, the absence of the original box can sometimes lower the value. However, even without the box, we can usually still purchase the item.

So, in today’s “Inheritance and Antique Appraisal Talk,” let’s discuss the role of the accompanying box.

A “tomo-bako” is a specialized box designed to house art or craft items, treated as an integral part of the work itself.
It’s not merely a storage container; it’s a crucial element that significantly influences the work’s overall value.
Particularly for tea ceremony utensils, hanging scrolls, ceramics, swords, calligraphy, and paintings, the presence or absence of a tomo-bako greatly impacts the purchase price.

Antique storage boxes serve the following roles, which can also affect appraisal:

① The box inscription (hakogaki) serves as proof of value
② The box inscription helps identify the contents
③ The box itself may sometimes hold value

Antique storage boxes often feature writing called a “box inscription” (hakogaki).

These box inscriptions feature the creator’s signature or seal, along with details like the work’s name and creation date. They essentially serve as a “certificate of authenticity” for the piece. Of course, since there’s always the possibility the contents were swapped or the box inscription is fake, authentication is necessary. However, if genuine, an item with its original box holds greater value than one without.

Furthermore, the storage box itself, bearing the box inscription, holds value. The more famous the work or artist, the greater the added value may be. However, many antiques simply do not come with a storage box. This is because, for various reasons, the artist may not have prepared one. But rest assured, the absence of a box does not mean the work loses its value or that its authenticity cannot be proven.

While we generally refer to it as a “storage box,” there are several types.

The most valuable is the “original box” bearing the box inscription (information written directly on the box) by the artist themselves.

Other types include the “attested box” (shikibako), inscribed by an authoritative appraiser, organization, or disciple, though not the artist themselves, and the “inscribed box” (kaketsukebako), inscribed by an authoritative figure like a headmaster or master.

Separate from these is the “assigned box” (awase-bako).
This is a box unrelated to the work itself, added later for storage purposes.
While an assigned box does not directly prove the work’s value, a high-quality one made of period-appropriate materials and well-crafted may slightly increase the purchase price.
For example, boxes for Meiji-period lacquerware sometimes hold antique value in their own right.

That old wooden box passed down from your grandparents or parents? That box you casually glance at every day might actually be a “kyōbako”—a box of immense importance in the world of antiques. The box itself could potentially hold unexpected value.

The box guarantees the work’s authenticity, provides clues about the piece itself, and further increases its rarity value. When requesting an appraisal, always bring the box along if you have it.

Even if the box is unrelated to the piece, such as a “matching box,” it won’t affect the appraisal. Also, some pieces never came with a box, and others retain significant value even without one. Why not request an appraisal for your boxless antiques?

昨日今日とスッキリと晴れ渡りました。大学入学共通テストを受験される受験生の皆さまもご家族も、お天気が良いだけで少し気持ちも軽くなるのではないでしょうか。

さてさて、もはや解けはしないのに、毎年気になってしまうのが、その試験内容。ムーミンやブラタモリなど、毎年共通テストの試験内容が話題になりますが、なんと今年は私も愛読しておりました、ベルばら！

「歴史総合、世界史探究」で、フランス革命を描いた漫画「ベルサイユのばら」（ベルばら）が引用されたというではありませんか！

過去にも有名な漫画・アニメ作品としては、「妖怪ウォッチ」「ゲゲゲの鬼太郎」などが引用されたことがあるようですが、センター試験の頃から、定期的にこの手のメディアを使った問題が出されていた印象があります。思うに、出題者が親と同じ年代とか、それ以上とかだからなんでしょうか…。

1972年から「週刊マーガレット」に連載された、池田理代子先生の「ベルサイユのばら」は、革命前後のフランスを舞台に王族や貴族、従者らの愛を描いた物語で、アニメ化、宝塚歌劇団で舞台化もされた人気漫画であります。

その「ベルばら」が登場したのは、フランス革命に関する問題。貴族の娘に生まれながらも将軍の父に男性として育てられたオスカルが「普通の女性として育っていたら、15歳のころには嫁がされていたのか」などと父に問いただす場面が引用され、フランス革命で市民の側についたオスカルが「バスティーユへ!!」と民衆を率いて出撃する名場面も掲載されたのだそう。

受験生の方々も悲喜こもごもで、ベルばらが好きな方にとってはサービス問題とも言えなくもないですが、この作品を見たとて、フィクションの部分もあって、回答に有利になる事はないと思うのですが、頭の中で絵を想像できるのは、記憶に残りやすいのかなと思います。

以前テレビで、東大生が影響受けた漫画ランキングで、「キングダムを読んだおかげて世界史の中国の戦国の七雄(秦・楚・斉・燕・趙・魏・韓)を苦も無く言えるようになった」と言っているのを見ましたが、私もその昔、横山光輝先生の三国志や戦国時代の漫画を読んだおかげて歴史の授業が楽しかった記憶があります。

小説でも影響を受けますが、やはり漫画の方が頭にスッと入ってくる気がするので影響力は大きいと思います。歴史は単に出来事を暗記するのではなく、時間の流れを追って眺めると、わりとすんなり頭に入るのです。この事件はなぜ起こったか、その結果どうなったか、どの人物がどう関係したか、それらを知ることで、歴史を知る楽しさに気づくきっかけになったなとも思うのです。

「漫画ばかり読んで、勉強しなさい！」と言われて過ごしたあの頃…。まさかこんな日が来るとは！

Now then, even though I can’t solve them anymore, I still find myself curious about the test content every year. Things like Moomin and Bura Torimori become topics of discussion regarding the test content annually, but this year, it was none other than The Rose of Versailles—a manga I myself loved reading!

In the “History Comprehensive, World History Exploration” section, the manga “The Rose of Versailles” (Berubara), which depicts the French Revolution, was referenced!

In the past, famous manga and anime like “Yokai Watch” and “GeGeGe no Kitaro” have been referenced too. I get the impression that since the days of the old Center Test, questions using this kind of media have appeared periodically. I wonder if it’s because the test creators are the same age as the parents, or even older…

Serialized in Weekly Margaret from 1972, Riyoko Ikeda’s “The Rose of Versailles” is a popular manga depicting the love lives of royalty, nobles, and their attendants against the backdrop of pre- and post-revolutionary France. It was adapted into an anime and staged by the Takarazuka Revue.

This “Rose of Versailles” appeared in a question about the French Revolution. A scene where Oscar, born to an aristocratic family but raised as a man by her general father, confronts him asking, “If I had been raised as a normal woman, would I have been married off by the age of 15?” was quoted. It also featured the famous scene where Oscar, siding with the citizens during the French Revolution, leads the people shouting, “To the Bastille!!”

For exam takers, it was a mix of joy and sorrow. While fans of “The Rose of Versailles” might see it as a bonus question, I doubt reading the manga—which contains fictional elements—would actually help with the answers. Still, being able to visualize the scenes might make them stick in your memory better.

I once saw on TV a ranking of manga that influenced Tokyo University students, where someone said, “Thanks to reading Kingdom, I can easily name the Seven Warring States of China in world history (Qin, Chu, Qi, Yan, Zhao, Wei, Han).” I also remember enjoying history class back in the day because I read Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s manga adaptations of the Three Kingdoms and the Warring States period.

Novels influence me too, but manga just seems to sink in more easily, so I think its impact is greater. History isn’t just about memorizing events; when you follow the flow of time and look at the bigger picture, it actually sticks in your mind quite smoothly. Understanding why an event happened, what the outcome was, and how specific figures were involved—learning these things made me realize the joy of discovering history.

Back then, I was always told, “Stop reading manga and study!”… Who would’ve thought this day would come!

今日から数日は暖かい陽気のようですが、また来週から寒波が来るそうですね。これだけ気温差があると、少々身体に堪えます。皆さまもどうぞご自愛くださいね。

店内では、先日買取に伺った際にお譲りいただいた招き猫が日向ぼっこよろしくお出迎えしておりますよ。

とても寒い日がつづくと、食べたくなるものがあります。

甘くて温かい「大判焼き」がなぜか食べたくなるのですが、この小麦粉からなる生地に餡がぎっしりと詰まった「大判焼き」。地域ごとにいろいろな呼び方がありますよね。

私は子供の頃から「東海道」だったのですが、これがこの地域でしか通用しないと気づいたのは大人になってから。

名古屋ではみんな「東海道」と呼ぶのだと思っていたのですが、なんと「東海道」とはローカルチェーンスーパー「ヤマナカ」オリジナルの名前でした。愛知県の呼び名でもなんでもなかったという事実…。

スーパー「ヤマナカ」の公式サイトによると、「東海道」と名付けたのは、ヤマナカの創業者の中野冨七。

昭和32 年、兵庫県姫路市で人気の大判焼店に焼き方の指導を受け、北海道産の大納言あずきを使用し、人工甘味料を一切使わず、当時の値段 1 個 10 円で販売を始めたのだそう。
東海道の人気は抜群で、店頭には長い列ができ、評判を聞き遠くからわざわざ 買 いに来られるお客 様までいらっしゃったそうですが、評判になっても餡の分量を少なくしたり、値段を高くすることはせず、販売を続けてきたのだそう。また、ひとつひとつに押される「東海道」の名の焼印は、「ヤマナカ」の商品であることを示し、責任の所在を明確にされているのだそうです。

どうやら関西の方にはおなじみのあの「御座候」に弟子入りし免許皆伝して作られたということのようですね。

「大判焼き」とはそもそも主に小麦粉からなる生地に餡をたっぷり入れ、金属製焼き型で焼成した和菓子のことですが、その呼び名は、なんと30通り以上という噂も…。

今川焼、御座候、回転焼き、太鼓まんじゅう、たくさんの言い方があるのですが、みなさまの地域では、なんと呼ばれているでしょうか。しかし、名称は違えど、みんなが指しているものは同じ。お祭りの屋台でも目にすることも多く、焼き立ての香りと中から溢れ出すあたたかい餡やクリームはたまりませんよね。

しかし、寒くなるとなぜか無性に食べたくなります。今も書いていて、頭の中、大判焼きでいっぱいです…。

いろいろ調べていると各地で論争の火種となる、名前を聞いてはいけない食べ物…。他に何があるか気になってきました。また次回お伝えしたいと思います。

The weather seems warm for the next few days, but I hear another cold snap is coming next week. Such drastic temperature swings can really take a toll on the body. Please take good care of yourselves.

Inside the shop, the maneki-neko (lucky cat) we acquired during a recent purchase visit is welcoming customers, basking in the sun.

When bitterly cold days persist, certain foods start craving.

For some reason, I find myself craving sweet, warm “ōban-yaki.” This pastry, made from wheat flour dough packed tightly with sweet bean paste, goes by different names in various regions.

I grew up calling it “Tokaido,” but only realized as an adult that this name only works in this area.

I thought everyone in Nagoya called it “Tokaido,” but it turns out ‘Tokaido’ is actually the original name of the local chain supermarket “Yamanaka.” The fact that it wasn’t even the name used in Aichi Prefecture…

According to the official Yamana Supermarket website, the name “Tokaido” was given by Yamana’s founder, Tomishichi Nakano.

In 1957, he learned baking techniques from a popular o-hanayaki shop in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. Using Hokkaido-grown Dainagon red beans and no artificial sweeteners whatsoever, he began selling them for 10 yen each.
Tokaido’s popularity was phenomenal. Long lines formed outside the shop, and customers even came from far away specifically to buy them after hearing the buzz. Yet, even as it gained fame, they never reduced the amount of filling or raised the price, continuing to sell it as before. Furthermore, the “Tokaido” brand name stamped on each one signifies it as a Yamanaka product, clearly indicating responsibility.

It seems he apprenticed under the master of the famous “Goza-sho” from the Kansai region, mastering the craft before creating his own version.

“Oban-yaki” is essentially a Japanese sweet made by filling a dough primarily composed of wheat flour with generous amounts of sweet bean paste and baking it in a metal mold. Rumor has it there are over 30 different names for this treat…

Imagawayaki, Gozasou, Kaiten-yaki, Taiko-manju—there are many names. What do you call it in your area? But regardless of the name, everyone is talking about the same thing. You often see them at festival stalls, and the aroma of the freshly baked pastry combined with the warm, overflowing sweet bean paste or cream inside is irresistible, right?

But for some reason, when it gets cold, I crave them intensely. Even now, as I write this, my mind is filled with thoughts of o-hanayaki…

As I researched further, I discovered foods whose names are controversial hot topics in various regions… I’m curious what else might be out there. I’ll share more about that next time.

現在、東京都品川区の寺田倉庫にて開催されておりまして、

「ガウディ没後100年公式事業 　NAKED meets ガウディ展」 へ行った知人より画像が届きまして。

（この絵はガウディが描いたものだそうです。）

昨年も、ここ名古屋で開催されましたガウディ展訪れたのですが、今回開催のガウディ展は、ガウディ没後100年となる今年2026年、そしてサグラダ・ファミリアのメインタワー「イエスの塔」完成を記念し、公式展覧会として東京を皮切りに開催されるようです。

今回のガウディ展はガウディの手記や直筆の書簡、彼が使用した制作道具をはじめ、未公開の資料や模型、スケッチなど、学術的にも極めて貴重なコレクションを網羅的に展示しており、これほど多くの財団所蔵資料が同時公開されるのは世界初のようであります。また、展示のほかにも大人から子どもまで楽しめる参加型アートも体験できるようでして、これらを通してガウディ建築の魅力にも触れられるようになっているそうです。

さて、そのサグラダ・ファミリア聖堂ですが、2025年に聖母被昇天の礼拝堂が完成し、ガウディの没後100年にあたる今年2026年は、高さ172.5mあるメインタワー「イエス・キリストの塔」が完成します。その後、3つのファサードのうち最後となる「栄光のファサード」などの建設にとりかかり、全体が完成するのは10年後の2034年ごろと見込まれています。

それにしてもなぜそんなに建設に時間がかかるのか不思議に思うところですが、そもそもサグラダ・ファミリアの全貌は設計者であるガウディの頭の中にしかなかったとも言われており、頼りにできるのはたった1枚のスケッチのみ。ガウディ亡き後弟子たちがこしらえた数々の資料もスペイン内戦で焼失してしまうというアクシデントに見舞われ、常に手探り状態で建設を進めていくしかなかったようですね。

このところ重要な役割を担う日本人建築家（彫刻家）外尾悦郎氏の活躍などがTVなどでこのところ取り上げられていますが、確かにひとつひとつの彫刻の作成など手探りですすめている様子などをみますと、完成にかける情熱と執念もガウディの時代から現在に一緒に受け継がれているひとつのような気もしました。

少し長く生きてきた昭和世代ですと、完成には実に300年以上を要するともきいていて、自分たちが生きている間にサグラダ・ファミリアの完成を見ることはないのだろうなぁと、思っていたと思うんですね笑。なにせ建設が進まないことにより、着工からすでに長い年月が経過しているため、新しい部分を作ると同時に完成部分の補修もしなければならない始末ですので、完成なんてそんなそんな笑、なんて。

一体どうしてそんなに早く完成を見込めるようになったのか。その理由には大きく二つあるようです。

一つ目はさきほどサグラダ・ファミリアの工事がなかなか進まない理由としても挙げた建設方針の手探り状態が、近年のIT技術を駆使することでだいぶクリアになったこと。コンピュータのない時代には模造実験のための模型も手作業で作らなくてはなりませんでしたが、今は3Dプリンターやコンピュータによる設計技術も進んでいるため、進捗はかなりスムーズになってきました。

二つ目は、サグラダ・ファミリアを建設する予算が観光客増加によって潤沢になってきたことでしょうか。というのも、サグラダ・ファミリアを語る上で欠かせないポイントが建設費です。サグラダ・ファミリアは贖罪教会という特性から、その建設予算は人々の寄附によってまかなわれてきました。かつては工事費の不足により建設が遅れてしまっていた側面も大きかったようです。

それにしても生きている間にサグラダ・ファミリアの完成を目にすることなんて、昭和世代の自分には、実は突然すぎてピンとこないところでして。今現在のところはちょっと驚きの「えっ？」しか言葉はでないのすが、いよいよ完成した全貌をみることになると、自分の生きてきた時の流れと時代の流れとかいろんなものがどーっと押し寄せてきて、きっと感嘆の「えー－－－っ」の大きな声となると思います。

ということで、2026年いよいよあらわれる「イエス・キリストの塔」、きっとどこかでみているガウディと一緒にみんなでカウントダウンといきましましょうか。

Currently being held at Terada Warehouse in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo,

I received images from an acquaintance who visited the “Official Centennial Commemoration of Gaudí’s Death: NAKED meets Gaudí Exhibition.”

This is said to be something Gaudí drew.

I also visited the Gaudi exhibition held here in Nagoya last year. This current Gaudi exhibition, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Gaudi’s death in 2026 and the completion of the Sagrada Familia’s main tower, the “Tower of Jesus,” appears to be an official exhibition starting in Tokyo.

This exhibition comprehensively displays an academically invaluable collection, including Gaudí’s notebooks, handwritten letters, his actual tools, previously unseen materials, models, and sketches. It appears to be the first time in the world that so many foundation-held materials are being exhibited simultaneously. Additionally, beyond the displays, there are participatory art experiences enjoyable for both adults and children, allowing visitors to engage with the charm of Gaudí’s architecture.

Now, regarding the Sagrada Família Cathedral itself: the Chapel of the Assumption is scheduled for completion in 2025. This year, 2026, marking the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death, will see the completion of the main tower, the “Tower of Jesus Christ,” standing 172.5 meters tall. After that, construction will begin on the final of the three façades, the “Façade of Glory,” with the entire structure expected to be completed around 2034, ten years later.

It’s puzzling why construction takes so long. It’s said that the entire vision of the Sagrada Família existed only in the mind of its designer, Gaudí, with just a single sketch to rely on. After Gaudí’s death, the numerous documents compiled by his disciples were tragically lost in the Spanish Civil War. Consequently, construction has always proceeded by trial and error.

Recently, the work of Japanese architect (and sculptor) Etsuro Tono, who plays a crucial role, has been featured on TV. Seeing how they proceed step by step, even with each individual sculpture, I felt that the passion and determination to complete it seem to be something passed down from Gaudí’s time to the present.

For us Showa-era folks who’ve lived a bit longer, we’d heard completion might take over 300 years. I think we all figured we wouldn’t live to see the Sagrada Familia finished, haha.

After all, construction progress has been slow. So much time has passed since groundbreaking that they have to repair completed sections while building new ones. Finishing? Yeah, right, haha.

So imagine the public uproar when it was announced that completion is now scheduled for around 150 years after groundbreaking—half the originally estimated timeframe! Furthermore, the video showing the projected completed design, announced for a 2026 completion, far exceeded our imagination, sparking a second wave of astonishment worldwide.

So how did they suddenly become so confident about finishing early?
There seem to be two major reasons.

First, the trial-and-error phase in construction methods—previously cited as a reason for the slow progress—has been largely overcome through the use of modern IT technology. In the pre-computer era, models for simulation experiments had to be crafted by hand. Now, with advances in 3D printing and computer-aided design, progress has become considerably smoother.

The second reason is likely the increased budget for Sagrada Família construction, fueled by rising tourist numbers. This is crucial because construction costs are central to the Sagrada Família narrative. Due to its nature as an expiatory church, its construction budget has always relied on public donations. In the past, insufficient funds were a major factor in delays.

Even so, witnessing the completion of the Sagrada Família within my lifetime feels so sudden and surreal to someone of my generation, born in the Showa era. Right now, I can only utter a surprised “Huh?” But when I finally see the completed structure in all its glory, I imagine the flow of my own life and the passage of time will wash over me all at once, surely eliciting a loud, amazed “Wooooow!”

So, let’s count down together with Gaudí, who’s surely watching from somewhere, to the “Tower of Jesus Christ” finally appearing in 2026.
