いよいよ開幕しました、ミラノ・コルティナ2026冬季オリンピック！。

 

早速日本では、昨夜からフィギュアスケートや団体やアイスホッケーなどがはじまっていましたが、今日は土曜日だし、早朝からの開会式を観ようとはりきって起きた方もいらしゃったのではないでしょうか。

 

自分はさすがにそれは断念したのですが、ダイジェスト版で少しチェックしてきました。メインスタジアムでのパフォーマンスでは、開催国イタリアらしい芸術や歴史を表現した色とりどりのコスチュームが会場中を華やかにしている様子。あぁもっとみていたい…という気持ちをおさえて今朝は出勤してきました。

 

今回の冬季オリンピックは、ミラノやコルチなどの史上初めて複数都市の名を冠した「超広域開催」の五輪になったようでして、イタリア北部の約2万2千平方キロメートルの地域に散らばる四つの会場群で運営されるとのこと。今朝の開会式も二カ所の開催ということで、入場行進なども選手がどちらかにいってたり、聖火も二カ所の会場で点火されたりと今までにないスタイルでしたね。

 

また、会場の85%が世界選手権などで利用された「既設」のようで、インフラ整備のための巨額の投資を避けられるようで、全13会場のうち、新たに造ったのはアイスホッケーとそりの2会場のみだそうです。それについてはアスリートにも利点があるようでして、1度でも会場を経験していれば大会に向けた不安がやわらぎ、パフォーマンス向上につながる期待もあるようです。

今年は愛知県でもアジア競技大会が開催されます。会場をチェックしてみたのですが、やはり愛知県民なら知っている既存の会場が多く、今後このような既存のものを大切に使っていくスタイルが主流となっていくのでしょうね。

 

開催期間は二週間あまり。日常味わうことのない極限の緊張感や大きな舞台で活躍する姿を選手の皆さんを通して自分も経験してみたいので、寝不足は覚悟しておきます。

The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics have finally begun!

 

Here in Japan, events like figure skating, team events, and ice hockey started last night. But today being Saturday, I bet some of you were excited to wake up early to watch the opening ceremony.

 

I admittedly gave up on that myself, but I did catch a bit of the highlights. The performances at the main stadium featured colorful costumes expressing Italy’s art and history, brightening the entire venue. I had to suppress the urge to watch more… and headed to work this morning.

 

This Winter Olympics marks the first time multiple cities have been named hosts, making it a “super-wide area” Games. It’s being run across four venue clusters spread over approximately 22,000 square kilometers in northern Italy. This morning’s opening ceremony itself was held at two locations. The athletes’ parade split between venues, and the Olympic flame was lit at two different sites – a truly unprecedented style.

 

Furthermore, 85% of the venues are “existing” facilities previously used for events like World Championships, apparently avoiding massive infrastructure investments. Out of all 13 venues, only two were newly constructed: one for ice hockey and one for sledding. This approach seems to benefit athletes too; having experienced the venue even once can ease pre-competition anxiety and potentially lead to improved performance.

This year, Aichi Prefecture will also host the Asian Games. Checking the venues, I noticed many are existing facilities familiar to Aichi residents. It seems this approach of valuing and utilizing existing infrastructure will become the mainstream style going forward.

 

The Games will run for just over two weeks. I want to experience, vicariously through the athletes, the extreme tension and the thrill of performing on such a grand stage – sensations rarely felt in daily life. I’m prepared for some sleep deprivation.
