先日TVで、中国が春節で帰省や観光など人々が大移動する様子が流れておりましたね。のべ９０億人が大移動をするとのことで、この人の数を聞いただけで中国のスケールの大きさに驚くのですが、やはり日本へ観光に訪れる方も多いようです。

そんななか、今年の春節、日本では“ある観光地”が大人気になっているといいます。

 

それは、岐阜県の観光地「白川郷」。

 

世界遺産にも登録されている「合掌造り」の集落が織りなす絶景を求め、多くの中国人観光客が訪れ、 春節の期間、中国人観光客らがツアーサイトを使って予約した都道府県のランキングでも、「白川郷」のある岐阜県は5位。トップ2位の東京、大阪の予約は前年よりややマイナスなのに対し、岐阜はなんと前年比200％の予約だとききました。

 

しかし、なぜ今「白川郷」なのか。中国人観光客に話を聞いてみると…「雪」だそうです。

 

意外にも中国では日本のように雪がどっかり降ることがめったにないようでして、やはりSNSの影響もあるのでしょうか世界中の方に雪の白川郷の魅力が知れ渡っているようですね。海外から来た方には雪の白川郷の景色は、まるで銀色のおとぎ話の世界のようにみえるのでしょう、訪れていたみなさんが大変感動していたのが印象的でした。

 

そんな「雪」の話題が頭によぎっていたところに、この香炉の図柄が目に入ってきました。

 

 

 

 

 

朝から「雪」というキーワードのフィルターがかかると、想像力でさえも「雪」がかぶさってきまして、もう「雪」にしか見えなくなってきました。

違う人が見ると雪じゃないかもしれませんが、自分の中では「とある雪面に落ちてきた小さな雪の結晶」に勝手に見立てました。想像力とは無限にそして勝手に世界を広げてくれるなんと便利なツールなのだろうか笑、とも思えてきたのですが、皆さまには何に見えるでしょうか。

 

先日の大河ドラマではないですが、当時ですと通信手段や交通手段もままならない時代に、人々は景色や夜空の月を眺めたりしながらこの想像力のみで物事に思いを巡らし書をしたためたり、楽器を奏でたり…。そんな生活をちょっと想像してみてください。

 

時間に追われている現代人にとってはイライラしそうな時間の流れでちょっと無理と思ってしまいそうですが、現代のように娯楽やＳＮＳなどのツールの無い時代ですと、この「想像力」はちょっとした娯楽だったようにも思えますね。

書をはじめ色々なものに想像力を働かせ、みんな物思いにふけっているイメージですが、もしかしたら、現代人の自分たちよりももっとスケール感や細やかさなど計り知れない大きな世界を、あくまでも想像の世界上ではありますが作っていたのかもしれませんね。

 

もう便利な忙しい世界に慣れきってしまい、そんな風流な想像力なんて退化しつつある自分でありますが、古に培われてきた感覚をちょっとだけ思い出させてくれたそんな「雪」のニュースでありました。

The other day on TV, there was a report about the large migration of people to China for the Chinese New Year. Just hearing this number of people, I was surprised at the scale of China’s migration, but it seems that many people are also visiting Japan for sightseeing. This Chinese New Year, a “certain sightseeing spot” is said to be very popular in Japan.
It is “Shirakawa-go,” a sightseeing spot in Gifu Prefecture.

Gifu Prefecture, where Shirakawa-go is located, was ranked fifth in the ranking of prefectures where Chinese tourists made reservations through tour sites during the Chinese New Year holiday period. While reservations in Tokyo and Osaka, the top two prefectures, were slightly down from the previous year, Gifu’s reservations were up 200% from the previous year.

But why Shirakawa-go now? When we talked to Chinese tourists, they told us it is because of the “snow.
Surprisingly, it rarely snows in China like it does in Japan, and perhaps due to the influence of SNS, the charm of Shirakawa-go in the snow is becoming well-known to people around the world. For visitors from overseas, the snowy landscape of Shirakawa-go looks like a silvery fairy tale world, and it was impressive to see how impressed they were.
The design of this incense burner caught my eye as I was thinking about snow.
When the keyword “snow” is filtered from this morning, even my imagination is covered with “snow,” and now all I can see is “snow.

It may not look like snow to other people, but in my mind, I saw it as “a small snowflake that fell on a certain snowy surface. I am beginning to think that imagination is a very useful tool that expands the world infinitely and on its own.
It is not a historical drama, but in those days, when there were no means of communication or transportation, people used only their imagination to think about things while looking at the scenery or the moon in the night sky, writing calligraphy, playing musical instruments, etc…. Imagine such a life.

For modern people who are pressed for time, it may seem impossible, but in an age without entertainment and social networking tools like today, this “imagination” seems to have been a bit of a pastime.

I imagine that people were pondering over various things, including calligraphy, but perhaps they were creating a world that was immeasurably larger in scale and detail than we are today, albeit only in their imagination.

I have become so accustomed to the convenience of the busy world that my imagination of such a refined world is degenerating, but the news of the snow reminded me a little of the senses that have been nurtured in ancient times.
