関東地方では昨年より１４日早く「春一番」が吹いたようですね。寒いのは苦手ですが、２月にこの暖かさはいかがなものかと不安にもなります。

自然の前では人間は小さく無力だともいいます。他の生き物同様、地球に住まわせてもらっているという謙虚な気持ちを忘れず持ち続けたいです。

 

さて身近にある自然を真摯に見つめ続けたエミール・ガレの作品が店内にございます。改めてご紹介するまでもないとは思いますが、１９世紀末から２０世紀初頭に活躍したフランスのガラス工芸家で、家具デザイナーでもあり、工場経営者でもありといくつもの顔を持った才能に溢れた人物です。

店内にございます小さな花瓶。小ぶりですがずっしりと重みを感じ、ガレの世界を両手に包み込めるような贅沢感があります。また手のひらに感じる凹凸が心地よく、つい指でもなぞりたい衝動にも駆られます。

 

 

 

ヤツデの葉でしょうか。実や花ではなく葉が主役であるかのように小さい花瓶いっぱいにのびやかに広がっています。写真では分かりにくいですが、葉の一枚一枚の色が微妙に違い、そのグラデーションの美しさに引き込まれます。

鮮やかな色ではなくこの影絵のような暗い色調は、色に深みを与え自然の色に近づけるというガレの作品の特徴でもありますが、初めからこの独特の深い色合いではなかったようです。

父親のガラス工場を引き継いだ１９世紀半ばはまだ無色透明のガラスが人気で、光をキラキラ反射する鉛クリスタルが価値のあるものとされ、ガレも多く制作していたとのこと。

しかし哲学、文学、音楽、自然学などの知識が豊富で、溢れる美術的才能を持っていたガレは型にはまった作品を超越し、精神的ともいえる独自の世界を切り開いていきます。後世に名を残す芸術家には概ねこのような魅力的な人物が多いですね。

この自然と調和する世界観には日本の美術工芸の影響も少なからずあったようです。１９世紀末、ヨーロッパ中を駆け抜けた新しい芸術スタイルのアールヌーボー。そのスタイルは産業革命で生まれた大量生産の製品にどこか疑問を持っていた当時の人々に広く受け入れられました。その中でジャポニスムと呼ばれる東洋人の感性が反映された工芸品が人気となりました。欧米の人には珍しく、草花や虫をこよなく愛したガレと日本人の感性は近いものがあったのかもしれません。

その当時、高島北海という明治政府の役人がフランスのナンシーに派遣され、エミール・ガレとも交流があったようです。北海の影響によりガレの作品には日本的な余白を活かした表現や墨絵の黒が反映されていると言われています。

 

 

 

 

ロレーヌの田舎や、親しんだ庭園を散歩し植物についての深い知識を深めていったエミール・ガレ。座右の銘として「我が根は森の奥深くにあり」という座右の銘を工場の入り口に掲げていたとされています。作品にも生と死をテーマにしもの多く残っているといいます。なかなか実物を見ることはできないかもしれませんが、本や映像で出来るだけ沢山の作品に触れ、楽しみたいと思います。

It seems that the “first day of spring” blew 14 days earlier than last year in the Kanto region. I don’t like cold weather, but I also feel uneasy about this warmth in February.

It is said that human beings are small and helpless in front of nature. Like other living creatures, I would like to keep in mind the humble feeling that we are allowed to live on the earth.

 

Now, we have a work by Emile Gallé, who continued to look at nature with great sincerity, in our store. He was a French glass craftsman, furniture designer, and factory owner who was active from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

A small vase in the store. It is small in size, but it feels very heavy and luxurious, as if the world of Galle could be wrapped in both hands. The unevenness of the surface on the palm of the hand is so comfortable that one is tempted to trace the surface with one’s fingers.

Is it a leaf of a lamprey? The leaves, not the fruits or flowers, are the main attraction, spreading out in a small vase. It is hard to tell from the photo, but the color of each leaf is slightly different, and the beauty of the gradation draws you in.

The dark, shadowy tones, rather than the vivid colors, are characteristic of Galle’s work, which gives depth to the colors and brings them closer to the colors of nature, but it does not seem to have been this unique deep hue from the beginning.

When he took over his father’s glass factory in the mid-19th century, colorless transparent glass was still popular, and lead crystal, which reflects sparkling light, was considered valuable, and Galle produced a lot of it.

However, Galle’s abundant knowledge of philosophy, literature, music, and natural science, as well as his abundant artistic talent, allowed him to transcend conventional works, opening up a world of his own that could be described as spiritual. Many of the artists who have left their mark in later generations are generally such fascinating figures.

This view of the world in harmony with nature seems to have been influenced in no small part by Japanese arts and crafts. This style was widely accepted by the people of the time, who were somewhat skeptical of the mass-produced products born of the Industrial Revolution. Among them, crafts that reflected the sensibility of Oriental people, known as Japonisme, became popular. Perhaps the Japanese sensibility was close to that of Galle, who loved plants, flowers, and insects, which was rare for people in Europe and the United States.

At that time, an official of the Meiji government named Takashima Hokkai was dispatched to Nancy, France, where he also had contact with Emile Gallé. It is said that under Hokkai’s influence, Galle’s works reflect the Japanese expression of marginal spaces and black ink painting.

 

Emile Gallé deepened his knowledge of plants through walks in the Lorraine countryside and in the gardens he enjoyed. It is said that he hung his motto, “My roots are deep in the forest,” at the entrance to his factory. It is said that many of his works have the theme of life and death. It may be difficult to see the actual works, but I would like to enjoy them through books and videos as much as possible.

先日TVで、中国が春節で帰省や観光など人々が大移動する様子が流れておりましたね。のべ９０億人が大移動をするとのことで、この人の数を聞いただけで中国のスケールの大きさに驚くのですが、やはり日本へ観光に訪れる方も多いようです。

そんななか、今年の春節、日本では“ある観光地”が大人気になっているといいます。

 

それは、岐阜県の観光地「白川郷」。

 

世界遺産にも登録されている「合掌造り」の集落が織りなす絶景を求め、多くの中国人観光客が訪れ、 春節の期間、中国人観光客らがツアーサイトを使って予約した都道府県のランキングでも、「白川郷」のある岐阜県は5位。トップ2位の東京、大阪の予約は前年よりややマイナスなのに対し、岐阜はなんと前年比200％の予約だとききました。

 

しかし、なぜ今「白川郷」なのか。中国人観光客に話を聞いてみると…「雪」だそうです。

 

意外にも中国では日本のように雪がどっかり降ることがめったにないようでして、やはりSNSの影響もあるのでしょうか世界中の方に雪の白川郷の魅力が知れ渡っているようですね。海外から来た方には雪の白川郷の景色は、まるで銀色のおとぎ話の世界のようにみえるのでしょう、訪れていたみなさんが大変感動していたのが印象的でした。

 

そんな「雪」の話題が頭によぎっていたところに、この香炉の図柄が目に入ってきました。

 

 

 

 

 

朝から「雪」というキーワードのフィルターがかかると、想像力でさえも「雪」がかぶさってきまして、もう「雪」にしか見えなくなってきました。

違う人が見ると雪じゃないかもしれませんが、自分の中では「とある雪面に落ちてきた小さな雪の結晶」に勝手に見立てました。想像力とは無限にそして勝手に世界を広げてくれるなんと便利なツールなのだろうか笑、とも思えてきたのですが、皆さまには何に見えるでしょうか。

 

先日の大河ドラマではないですが、当時ですと通信手段や交通手段もままならない時代に、人々は景色や夜空の月を眺めたりしながらこの想像力のみで物事に思いを巡らし書をしたためたり、楽器を奏でたり…。そんな生活をちょっと想像してみてください。

 

時間に追われている現代人にとってはイライラしそうな時間の流れでちょっと無理と思ってしまいそうですが、現代のように娯楽やＳＮＳなどのツールの無い時代ですと、この「想像力」はちょっとした娯楽だったようにも思えますね。

書をはじめ色々なものに想像力を働かせ、みんな物思いにふけっているイメージですが、もしかしたら、現代人の自分たちよりももっとスケール感や細やかさなど計り知れない大きな世界を、あくまでも想像の世界上ではありますが作っていたのかもしれませんね。

 

もう便利な忙しい世界に慣れきってしまい、そんな風流な想像力なんて退化しつつある自分でありますが、古に培われてきた感覚をちょっとだけ思い出させてくれたそんな「雪」のニュースでありました。

The other day on TV, there was a report about the large migration of people to China for the Chinese New Year. Just hearing this number of people, I was surprised at the scale of China’s migration, but it seems that many people are also visiting Japan for sightseeing. This Chinese New Year, a “certain sightseeing spot” is said to be very popular in Japan.
It is “Shirakawa-go,” a sightseeing spot in Gifu Prefecture.

Gifu Prefecture, where Shirakawa-go is located, was ranked fifth in the ranking of prefectures where Chinese tourists made reservations through tour sites during the Chinese New Year holiday period. While reservations in Tokyo and Osaka, the top two prefectures, were slightly down from the previous year, Gifu’s reservations were up 200% from the previous year.

But why Shirakawa-go now? When we talked to Chinese tourists, they told us it is because of the “snow.
Surprisingly, it rarely snows in China like it does in Japan, and perhaps due to the influence of SNS, the charm of Shirakawa-go in the snow is becoming well-known to people around the world. For visitors from overseas, the snowy landscape of Shirakawa-go looks like a silvery fairy tale world, and it was impressive to see how impressed they were.
The design of this incense burner caught my eye as I was thinking about snow.
When the keyword “snow” is filtered from this morning, even my imagination is covered with “snow,” and now all I can see is “snow.

It may not look like snow to other people, but in my mind, I saw it as “a small snowflake that fell on a certain snowy surface. I am beginning to think that imagination is a very useful tool that expands the world infinitely and on its own.
It is not a historical drama, but in those days, when there were no means of communication or transportation, people used only their imagination to think about things while looking at the scenery or the moon in the night sky, writing calligraphy, playing musical instruments, etc…. Imagine such a life.

For modern people who are pressed for time, it may seem impossible, but in an age without entertainment and social networking tools like today, this “imagination” seems to have been a bit of a pastime.

I imagine that people were pondering over various things, including calligraphy, but perhaps they were creating a world that was immeasurably larger in scale and detail than we are today, albeit only in their imagination.

I have become so accustomed to the convenience of the busy world that my imagination of such a refined world is degenerating, but the news of the snow reminded me a little of the senses that have been nurtured in ancient times.

みなさまこんにちは、スタッフYでございます。

 

ここ名古屋、２月にしては少し不気味な暖かさでして。戸惑っている方もおいでではないでしょうか。今朝も通勤の車から皆さま何を着ているのか見ておりましたが、ダウンコートやウールのコートなど着ている方はいませんでした。困りましたね。春の「何着ていいか問題」が、頭をよぎりました。これも自分の中の春の風物詩であります。

 

 

 

 

ところで先日、雛飾りのお殿様の烏帽子の羽みたいなことろの付け根の部分がとれてしまい…と、いうつぶやきをいたしまして、「あの羽の部分は何というのか教えてください。」というつぶやきにご親切にもお返事をいただきました。

 

正式にはあの羽の分は「纓」（えい）というとのことでした。

この漢字も初めて知りました。「櫻」という字に似ておりますがちょっと違います。結構長く生きておりますが、知らない言葉はまだまだあるようでして、「へぇーーっ」と、いう顔をした人も私の他にもいらっしゃるかもしれませんね。

 

その「纓」（えい）ですが、少し調べてみましたが、冠の付属具で背後の中央に垂らす部分のことをいいます。

 

古くは、髻 (もとどり) を入れて巾子 (こじ) の根を引き締めたひもの余りを後ろに垂らしたとのことですが、後には幅広く長い形に作って巾子の背面の纓壺 (えつぼ) に差し込んでつけたようでいして、我が家のお殿様もこの造りのようでした。時代により形状が異なり、垂纓 (すいえい) ・巻纓 (けんえい) ・立纓 (りゅうえい) ・細纓 (さいえい) ・縄纓 (なわえい) などの区別があり、今回の大河ドラマも殿方がこのような装束で登場いたしますので楽しみにチェックしてみたいと思っております。

 

それにしても、こうやって無知なことを恐れず助けを求めておりますと親切な方がいらっしゃることにも気付きます。教えてくださり誠にありがとうございました。

 

そんな春の追っかけの最中で、先日の梅ではないですが花を愛でていますとどこかしら団子（菓子）も気になってくるのも自分の中の春の風物詩でして…。ご近所の和菓子店を覗いてみました。

思った通り和菓子も春らしい色鮮やかなものがケースの中に並んでおり、お雛様のひしもちをイメージしたような和菓子をついつい購入。

 

 

 

 

 

よって、本日のおやつは和菓子となりましたので、花より団子（菓子）、一足お先に失礼いたします。

It’s been a little bit eerily warm for February here in Nagoya. Some of you may be a bit puzzled. This morning, I was looking at what everyone was wearing from my car on my way to work, and I didn’t see anyone wearing down coats or wool coats. I was puzzled. The spring “what to wear problem” came to mind. This is another spring tradition in my mind.

By the way, the other day, I tweeted that the base of the feather-like part of the hat of the lord of Hina decorations had fallen off… Please tell me what that feather-like part is called. Please tell me what that feather part is called.
Officially, I was told that the part of the feather is called “ei” (纓).

I had never heard of this kanji before. It looks like the character for “cherry blossom,” but it is a little different. I have been alive for quite a long time, but it seems that there are still many words that I do not know.

I looked up the word “ei,” and found that it is an accessory of the crown that hangs down in the center behind the crown.
In the old days, the tail was made by putting a knot in the hair and tightening the root of the coiled hair, and hanging the remainder of the string from the back of the coiled hair. The shape of the tail varies depending on the period, and there are different types of tail such as a hanging tail, a rolled tail, a standing tail, a thin tail, and a rope tail.

I am looking forward to checking them out. Thank you very much for teaching me.
In my pursuit of spring, I also find myself interested in dumplings (sweets) when I admire flowers, not the plum blossoms I saw the other day, so I took a look at a nearby Japanese sweets store.

As I expected, there were brightly colored spring-like wagashi lined up in the case, and I couldn’t resist buying some. I guess these wagashi are inspired by hishimochi (rice cakes) for hina dolls.

Therefore, today’s snack was a wagashi. Please excuse the dango (confectionery) before the flowers.

さて本日バレンタインデーは長い歴史の中で色々と形を変えながら、世界中で感謝や愛情を伝え合う日となっています。男性から女性へ、女性から男性へ、家族同士で、日頃お世話になっている方へと国によって想いを伝える人や方法は様々なようです。

 

 

 

 

日本ではチョコレートが主役となっていますが、花やメッセージカードを送り合う国も多いと聞きます。欧米では特別なプレゼントはなくてもカードだけで贈り物になることもあるのだとか。海外の映画やドラマの中で、もらったカードを部屋中に飾っている光景をよく目にします。逆にプレゼントだけでカードが添えられていないのは違和感を感じるそうです。それだけ言葉で気持ちを表すということを大切にしているのですね。

 

イギリスでは中世後期にメッセージカードを意中の相手に送ることが上流階級の間で広まったといわれています。１９世紀には郵便制度が整備され庶民の間にも広まるようになり、クリスマスカードやバースデーカードなどと共にバレンタインカードも大量に製造、販売されるようになりました。この時期からヨーロッパの他の地域やアメリカなどにもカード文化が広がっていったといわれています。

 

手紙ほどかしこまらず、ちょっとした一言を添えるだけで気持ちを伝え合うことができるメッセージカード。相手のことを思ってカードを選び、自筆でメッセージを書くこと自体がプレゼントとなり、人間関係を豊かに円滑にしてくれるのかもしれません。

 

日本では昔から「以心伝心」、「言葉にせずとも分かりますよね」という文化があります。その距離感が私も心地よいのですが、もっと言葉で表してもいいのかもと思った出来事がありました。

スーパーマーケットでの買い物中、買い物カゴが陳列商品にぶつかり、一瞬ドキっとして声を上げてしまいました。ぎりぎりのところで商品の山は崩れず、ほっと胸をなで下ろしていると、そばにいた若い女性が「セーフでしたね！」とニコッと微笑んで去って行かれました。あまりの自然な声掛けに心が温かくなりました。

そのすぐ後、商品を選ぶのに夢中で通行の邪魔になっていたようで、後ろからの「失礼します」という声に慌てて「あっ、すみません」と謝ると、「いえ、こちらこそ」と爽やかな返事がありました。（私の日頃の不注意さが露呈しておりますが…）本当に爽やかなお声でした。

何ということはないやり取りですが、その口調や言葉になぜか気持ちが前向きになりました。会釈だけで済ませてしまいがちなところですが、私もきちんと言葉にする習慣や技量を身につけたいと思った出来事でした。

 

身近な人ほどあえて口に出して伝えるのが難しいこともあります。特別な日にメッセージカードの力を借りて伝えるのもいいかもしれませんね。

Today is Valentine’s Day, a day for expressing gratitude and affection all over the world, with many different forms over the long history of Valentine’s Day. It is a day for men to send their love to women, for women to send their love to men, for family members to send their love to each other, and for those who are indebted to them.

 

In Japan, chocolates play a leading role, but I hear that in many countries, flowers and message cards are sent to each other. In Europe and the United States, a card alone can be a gift without a special present. In foreign movies and TV dramas, you often see the cards received are displayed all over the room. On the other hand, they feel uncomfortable with just a gift and no accompanying card. That is how much they value expressing their feelings with words.

 

In England, it is said that sending a message card to a loved one became popular among the upper classes in the late Middle Ages, and in the 19th century, with the development of the postal system, Valentine’s Day cards became popular among the general public as well as Christmas cards and birthday cards, and were mass produced and sold in large quantities. Valentine’s Day cards were also produced and sold in large quantities along with Christmas cards and birthday cards. It is said that card culture spread to other parts of Europe and the United States during this period.

Message cards are not as formal as letters, and can be used to convey feelings with just a few words. The act of choosing a card with the recipient in mind and writing a message in one’s own handwriting is a gift in itself, and may enrich and facilitate human relationships.

 

In Japan, there has long been a culture of “isshin-denshin,” or “you understand without words. This sense of distance is comfortable for me, but there was an incident that made me think that it might be better expressed in words.

While shopping at a supermarket, my shopping cart bumped into a product on display, and for a moment I was so nervous that I raised my voice. I was relieved to see that the pile of goods did not collapse just in time, when a young woman standing beside me said, “You were safe! A young woman smiled at me and walked away. It was so natural that it warmed my heart.

Shortly after that, she seemed to be so engrossed in selecting an item that she was in the way of traffic, and when she heard a voice behind her saying, “Excuse me,” I hurriedly apologized, to which she briskly replied, “No, it’s my pleasure. (My daily inattentiveness is revealed…) It was truly a refreshing voice.

It was an ordinary exchange, but for some reason, his tone and words made me feel positive. It was an incident that made me want to acquire the habit and skill of using words properly, which is something I tend to do only by exchanging pleasantries.

 

Sometimes it is more difficult to express oneself verbally than to those closest to one’s heart. It might be a good idea to convey them on special occasions with the help of a message card.

先日、我が家でもお雛様を出しました。ところが、お殿様の烏帽子の羽というのでしょうか（名称は何というのか分からないのでご存じの方教えてください。）そこの付け根の部分がポロっととれていまいまして、急遽自分で修復いたしました。まあ何十年も飾っておりますと、いろいろ経年劣化によるほころびがでてくるのは致し方ないですが。

 

 

 

 

そうえば、先日のHNK大河ドラマの「光る君へ」の一場面において。

破天荒な花山天皇が少々取乱して、叔父さんの烏帽子を剥ぎ取るシーンがありました。

当時の出家していない成人男子は人前では常に烏帽子を被っているのですが、この烏帽子を脱がすという行為はそもそも現代であれば衆人環視の中でズボンを脱がすくらい辱めを受ける行為に相当するそうですね。

 

我が家のお殿様も、先日は烏帽子の修復にのため、一晩烏帽子を脱がされ辱めを受けた状態でありました…。致し方なかったとはいえ、どうしても大河ドラマのシーンを思い出していまい、思わず「まことにすみません。一晩お待ちください。」とお伝えせずにはいられませんでしたね笑。

 

こんなふうに寒いながらも２月にはいると、なにやら春へむかって準備がはじまっておりまして。

 

そんな春の準備がもう一つ。

 

各所で梅がほころび始めております。寒さに気をとられて気が付かなかったのですが、そんな寒さのなかでも忘れずに花は開花の準備をしていたようですね。本日は青空も澄み渡って、絶好の梅日和でありましたので思わず写真を撮りたくなりました。（古屋市天白区塩竃神社にて。）

 

梅を筆頭に春の開花シーズンが始まりますが、自分の中の「わくわくしながら待ち遠しく春の花を待つ遺伝子」が今年もそろそろうずうずしてきました。

The other day, our Ouchiura-sama was also humiliated by having to take off her raven cap for a night to repair it…. Although it was unavoidable, I couldn’t help but remember the scene from the historical drama and couldn’t help but say, “I am so sorry…please wait one night.” I couldn’t help but say, “I’m so sorry…please wait one night.

 

Despite the cold weather, February is the beginning of preparations for spring. One more such preparation for spring.

 

Plum blossoms are starting to fade in many places. I was so preoccupied with the cold weather that I did not notice it, but it seems that even in such cold weather, the flowers were preparing to bloom without forgetting. Today was a perfect day for plum blossoms with clear blue skies, so I couldn’t help but take some pictures. (At Shiogama Shrine in Tenpaku Ward, Furuya City)

 

The spring blooming season is about to begin with plum blossoms at the top of the list, and the “gene in me that waits excitedly and eagerly for spring flowers” is itching to get started this year as well. I can’t wait to see them.
