私は普段あまり笑わないのですが、３６度という暑さにやられて朝から頭がやられたのか笑いが止まりません（笑）

笑ってはいけないと思うとさらに笑ってしまうので、お堅い仕事ではなくてよかったと安心しております。

久しぶりの晴れ模様だからか、朝の出勤中にたくさんわんちゃんに出会いました。

このアスファルト地獄で足の裏は大丈夫なのかと心配になりましたが、本人たちは楽しそうなので、よしとしましょう。

さて、前回紹介しました三重県四日市市のBANKOで、特別展「熊と鷹」を見てまいりました。

皆さま面彫りの熊はご存知でしょうか？

木彫りの熊は有名ですが、面彫りというとあまり見たことがないと思います。

今回は、面彫り熊が大好きすぎて待ち受けにしている知り合いに誘われて行ってまいりました。

柴崎重行と面彫り熊について調べてみました。

柴崎重行は、八雲を代表する熊彫作家でございます。

昭和初期に発足した八雲農民美術研究会で指導的立場として活躍後、脱退致しました。初期には多くの具象熊の名作を残していますが、後年は毛を細かく彫らない抽象的な作品へと重心を移していきました。

その「ハツリ彫り」による抽象熊は北海道内で「幻の熊」と呼ばれ、多くのコレクターを生み出すことになります。

陶芸家バーナード・リーチが所有していたという話もあるそうです。

北海道の木彫り熊が、おしゃれな若者の間で人気だとか。

その人気のものは、誰もが頭に思い浮かべる、あの黒くテカテカと輝く、シャケを咥えたアイツ、とはちょっと違います。

お土産品としての熊の彫刻が北海道で彫られるようになったのは、いまから約100年前でございます。

道南の地、現在の八雲町には、明治以降、たくさんの旧尾張藩出身者が入植していました。大正時代に入り、この地を訪れた当時の尾張徳川家当主、徳川義親は農民たちの貧しい、楽しみの少ない生活を目の当たりにし、改善を試みます。そこで白羽の矢を立てたのが、旧婚旅行で訪れたスイスで出会ったペザントアート（農民美術）の木彫り熊でございました。

農閑期である冬に現金収入を得るための産業として、さらには、農民たちの文化的楽しみとして始まった八雲の「熊彫」。その姿は、現在誰もがイメージするあの熊の姿とは少し違っていました。鮭を咥えてもいなければ、テカテカと黒光もしておりません。

数ある八雲の熊彫の中でも一際目を見張るのが、この地で独自に発展を遂げた「抽象熊」です。その圧倒的な存在感から、お土産物を超えたアートとして、多くの人たちがいま注目しているそうです。

そして、陶芸家、内田鋼一さんも抽象熊に魅了され、運営する〈BANKOアーカイヴデザインミュージアム〉で、八雲の抽象熊が並ぶ企画展が開催されました。

柴崎重行は戦前から活躍していた人物で、現在も最も人気が高い作家でございます。

もともと毛を細かく彫る「毛彫りの熊」の名手ですが、戦前から抽象熊の試作も行い数々の傑作を残しました。

こうした抽象熊は生産数も少なく、まとまった数を見られるチャンスはそれほど多くありません。今回の展示は、コレクター垂涎の作品を見られる貴重な機会でございました。

知り合いの家にはこの展示のポスターが飾ってありました。

本物は何十万もするため買えないそうですが、大人をこんなに魅了する八雲の抽象熊恐るべしでございます。

柴崎重行だけではなく、色々な面彫り熊に出会えた今回の展示。

大人だけでなく、子供も「熊さん可愛い～」と楽しんでいたのが印象的でした。

I don’t usually laugh so much, but I can’t stop laughing because the heat of 36 degrees has hit my head from the morning (laughs).

I’m relieved that I’m glad I didn’t have a hard job because I would laugh even more if I thought I shouldn’t laugh.

I met a lot of doggy while I was at work in the morning, probably because it was sunny after a long time.

I was worried that the soles of my feet would be okay in this asphalt hell, but they seem to be having fun, so let’s do it.

By the way, I saw the special exhibition “Bear and Hawk” at BANKO in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, which I introduced last time.

Do you know the bear carved on your face?

Wood carving bears are famous, but I don’t think I’ve seen many face carvings.

This time, I was invited by an acquaintance who is waiting for me because I love Shigeyuki Shibasaki’s face carving bear too much.

I investigated Shigeyuki Shibasaki and the face carved bear.

Shigeyuki Shibasaki is a bear carving artist who represents Yakumo.
He left after playing an active role in the Yakumo Peasant Art Study Group, which was established in the early Showa period. He left many masterpieces of concrete bears in the early days, but later he shifted his center of gravity to abstract works that did not carve fine hair.

The abstract bear made by “cutting” is called “phantom bear” in Hokkaido and will produce many collectors.

There is a story that it was owned by the potter Bernard Leach.

Wood carving bears from Hokkaido are popular among fashionable young people.

Its popularity is a little different from the black, shiny, salmon-sucking guy that everyone thinks of.

It was about 100 years ago that bear sculptures as souvenirs began to be carved in Hokkaido.

Since the Meiji era, many people from the former Owari clan have settled in the present-day Yakumo town in southern Hokkaido. In the Taisho era, the owner of the Owari-Tokugawa family, Yoshichika Tokugawa, who visited this area, witnessed the poor and less enjoyable lives of the farmers and tried to improve them. It was the wood carving bear of Peasant Art (farmer art) that I met in Switzerland that I visited on my old marriage trip.

Yakumo’s “bear carving” started as an industry to earn cash income in the off-season winter, and also as a cultural pleasure for farmers. The appearance was a little different from the appearance of that bear that everyone currently imagines. It doesn’t hold salmon, it doesn’t shine and it doesn’t glow.

Among the many bear carvings in Yakumo, the most striking is the “abstract bear” that has developed independently in this area. Due to its overwhelming presence, many people are now paying attention to it as an art that goes beyond souvenirs.

Also, the potter Koichi Uchida was fascinated by the abstract bears, and at the <BANKO Archive Design Museum>, a special exhibition was held in which Yakumo’s abstract bears lined up.

Shigeyuki Shibasaki is a person who has been active since before the war and is still the most popular writer.
Originally a master of “hair carving bears” who carve hair finely, he also made prototypes of abstract bears before the war and left many masterpieces.

These abstract bears are produced in small numbers, and there are not many chances to see them in bulk. This exhibition was a valuable opportunity to see the works of collectors.

The poster of this exhibition was displayed in the house of an acquaintance.

It seems that you can’t buy the real one because it costs hundreds of thousands, but Yakumo’s abstract bear is terrifying and fascinates adults.

This exhibition where I met not only Shigeyuki Shibasaki but also various face-carved bears.

It was impressive that not only adults but also children enjoyed “Kuma-san is cute”.
