Hello everyone.

It’s getting warmer little by little nowadays when you can feel the blooming of peaches and cherry blossoms in the store, but how about in your area?

During such spring, I went to the Van Gogh exhibition.

From February 23, 2022, “Van Gogh Exhibition: Resonating Souls Helene and Fincent” began at the Nagoya City Museum of Art.

Here in Nagoya, you can see Van Gogh’s paintings nearby! I was driven by the urge to go, aiming for the ticket on the day

It was inevitably crowded and I intended to give up if I couldn’t buy the ticket, but since it was a weekday, I managed to buy the ticket on the day. (I noticed later, but it seemed that the ticket information on the day of the ticket was also posted on Twitter.)

Since the entrance is on an hourly basis, you will be lined up until the time you enter, and then you will enter.

When you enter with excitement, it is quite crowded even if you have restricted admission.

However, all of them gave up trying to keep a proper distance from other people, and it didn’t feel like they weren’t moving at all, so I could see all the pictures, and I’ll start from a vacant place. I was able to go around with a feeling.

It seems that he was doing an art exhibition with the same content at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum last year, and I saw the photos of that introduction, but I felt that Nagoya was a little narrower and there was not much space between the works, so I was a little disappointed that I didn’t feel like looking at each one in a relaxed manner …

The subtitle of this Van Gogh exhibition is “Sounding Souls Helene and Fincent”.

I was wondering who Helene and Vincent were, so when I looked at the explanation, Helene was a woman named Helene Kröller-Muller, and as you know, Vincent van Gogh. It’s Van Gogh.

So what is the relationship between the two?

That seems to be the heart of this Van Gogh exhibition.

Helene has never met Van Gogh in person, but he is one of the people who bought a lot of his work at a time when it was not so well received by the world and made Van Gogh’s reputation known all over the world. ..

Where was Helene fascinated by Van Gogh?

To know that, let’s know what kind of woman Helene is.

She was born in a small village in Helene, Germany, she had her father who runs a company and grew up in a wealthy family.

However, she became discordant with her parents due to religious differences, and at the request of her father, she married Anton, a young Dutch man who was a business partner of her company, and she moved to the Netherlands. ..

So Anton made the company more and more developed and is said to be the richest man in the Netherlands.

However, Helene, who had three children but lived with some unsatisfied feelings, became acquainted with the painter and art critic Clemmer, who was an art teacher for her daughter around the age of 37. , She entered the world of art.

And she sought more spiritual comfort from art, partly because of her disappointment with her children who weren’t interested in her culture.

Her life-threatening major surgery was a turning point for her, and she began to dream of establishing a museum.

With the help of her husband Anton, she collected her work with tremendous momentum despite the effects of the war and the Great Depression, and in July 1938 her long-cherished wish, “Kröller-Muller.” The “Museum” was completed and became her first director.

However, she died the following December, 1939, at the age of 70.

Her life is her life with a feud with her parents, a ditch with her children, a thirst for her life as a woman while being her mother. It seemed like it was, and I wasn’t always satisfied somewhere.

She is said to have collected Van Gogh’s paintings to fill the gaping hole in her heart.

Van Gogh lived from 1853 to 1890 and Helene lived from 1869 to 1939, but as mentioned above, Helene picked up Van Gogh’s work after he died. am.

In the 20 years since 1908, she has purchased over 90 oil paintings and about 180 drawings and prints.

The precious 68 of them were displayed separately in the place where Van Gogh lived.

“Dutch era”, “Paris”, “Arles”, “Southern France”

It was amazing that each era had its own characteristics and was drawn by the same person.

This will be felt by each viewer, so I will refrain from thinking about it for when I see it directly, but it feels like I can grasp the process leading up to that way of drawing Van Gogh. was.

You can also see that I was worried during that time.

Along with her work, a letter written to her younger brother Theo is also introduced, which is even more so.

Where was Helene fascinated by Van Gogh?

Perhaps she was fascinated by the art created by Van Gogh’s deep and fierce spirituality.

An exhibition of works by the life of Helene, who realized her dream of establishing an art museum after suffering, and the soul of Van Gogh, who died at the young age of 37 while creating art created by deep and intense spirituality. I felt like it was.

Last but not least, while Van Gogh’s works were lined up, one Renoir was on display, and I didn’t want to move there for a while because it was like an oasis of mind. (Lol)
