『An Artist of the Floating World 』（浮世の画家）

こちらはスタッフTの読書好きの家族Bが、

以前に薦めてくれた書籍です。

著者カズオイシグロは、

1989年に長編小説『日の名残』で英語圏最高の文学賞とされる「ブッカー賞」を、

2017年に「ノーベル文学賞」を受賞していましたね。

ロンドン在住。長崎県出身の日系イギリス人小説家です。
 
邦題『浮世の画家』は日本でドラマにもなっていました。
戦争に協力した画家が、戦後非難を受けて「反省」を余儀なくされる、というお話で、
娘の縁談の相手やかつての弟子など都合三人に「卑劣極まりない人生」となじられ、
アイデンティティの喪失に直面するも、世間も家族もそんな問題は何処へやら、
老人は一人煩悶のままに、人生の終わりを迎えていくだろう、というお話。
明らかにフジタと横山大観の二人をモデルにしたであろう人物を渡辺謙が演じており、
このドラマで怖い場面はふたつ、
広末涼子演じる娘に「お前のいう通りに僕は過去を整理した」と述べるも
「え？なんのこと」と目を丸くされてしまうところ、
もうひとつは2001年宇宙の旅のボーマン船長のように
自分が描いた絵を燃やすところを眺める場面。
「焼く匂い」がキーワードになり、何が現実か判然としなくなる描写は
タルコフスキー「ソラリス」みたいで正しくカズオイシグロぽくてなかなか良い。

私的には、寺田心くんが演じている孫が、
本当は怖いくせに怪獣映画を見る！と強がってみたり、
まるで大人ぶってお酒を飲むと言ってみたり、
男尊女卑の世相を映す鏡のように女性を見下すような態度を取ったりするんですが・・・
それを見た主人公が、その孫の姿に自分を見ているように感じる描写が印象的でした。
 

戦争中は英雄だった軍人はもちろん、芸術家も、
戦後は戦犯のように扱われた人たちがいたのです。画家だけではありません。
音楽家・古関裕而さんは近年NHKの朝のドラマで戦前･戦中･戦後の様子が描かれていました。
国家掲揚に貢献したという高評価が、
戦後はまるで罪人のようなものになってしまいましたね。
 
それまでもてはやされていた価値観が180度変わってしまうことがあります。
戦後の経済成長期、大きいことはいいことだった時代もありましたが、
近年は小さくコンパクトに収まる革新的技術が最先端になりました。
むかしは沢山持つことが豊かさの象徴だったのに、
近年はミニマリストが話題になってました。
クリーンエネルギーと謳われた原子力発電も、想定外の天災に遭ってしまっては・・・
汚染の源となってしまいました。
 
いまでは使い捨てる消費社会もさらに見直され、
便利なプラスチック製品をやめてサスティナブルな社会を目指している現在。
 
これからの浮世はどのように変わっていくのでしょうか…。

The painter who cooperated in the war was criticized after the war and was forced to “reflect”, and he was accused of being a “sneaky life” by three people, including his daughter’s marriage partner and a former disciple, and lost his identity. The story is that the old man will reach the end of his life in agony, no matter where the world and his family are facing such problems.
Ken Watanabe plays a person who was apparently modeled after Fujita and Taikan Yokoyama, and there are two scary scenes in this drama, telling his daughter, who plays Ryoko Hirosue, “I arranged the past as you say. “What?”, But the other is the scene of burning the picture I drew like Captain Bowman of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Once upon a time, having a lot was a symbol of affluence, but in recent years minimalists have become a hot topic.
