2月13日、バレンタインデーの前日ですね。お菓子作りに勤しむ方、落ち着かない気持ちで過ごしている方もおられるのではないでしょうか。

 

実は201年前の2月13日、小林一茶は一年分の俳文集を完結させています。

小林一茶は、松尾芭蕉、与謝蕪村とならぶ俳諧師の一人です。

彼の俳句は、国語の教科書などにも載っており、

「やせ蛙負けるな一茶これにあり」などの俳句を、ご存知の方も多いのではないでしょうか。

 

彼が2月13日に完結した俳文集は、彼が亡くなってから25年後、白井一之によって刊行されます。

その俳文集が、『おらが春』なんです。

彼が故郷である長野県で一年過ごす中で、折々に寄せて詠んだ俳句・俳文から出来ています。

 

「雀の子そこのけそこのけ御馬が通る」や、「我と来て遊べや親のない雀」、

「名月を取ってくれろと泣く子かな」など、彼の俳句からは小さなものへのあたたかな視線を感じます。これら全ては『おらが春』に収められています。

また彼は、多作の俳人としても知られており、彼が生涯で詠んだ俳句は、なんと2万点にも及ぶとされています。

私が知っている、彼の俳句は本当に一部だったのだなあと思います。

今年の春は、家で『おらが春』を読んでみようと思います。

 

February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. I think there are people who are making sweets and people who are in a fidget.

On February 13th, 201 years ago, Issa Kobayashi completed his year’s worth of haiku collection. Issa Kobayashi is one of the famous haiku masters  in Japan.

His haiku is appear in a  Japanese textbooks. Many of you may be familiar with haiku such as “Issa is here, don’t lose the thin frog.”

The collection of haiku, which he completed on February 13, would be published by Kazuyuki Shirai, 25 years after Issa died. The collection of haiku is “Ora ga Haru”. As he spends a year in his hometown of Nagano prefecture, he made up of haiku.

From his haiku, I feel a warm gaze toward small things, such as “Come and play with me, a sparrow without parents.”

He is also known as a prolific haiku poet, and it is said that he wrote 20,000 haiku in his lifetime.

20,000!

I think his haiku, which I know was really small part of it.

This spring, I will read “Ora ga Haru” at home.
