最近沖縄に行きたい欲がすごく暇さえあれば沖縄の食べ物や観光地など調べて未定の沖縄旅行の計画を立てております（笑）

ちなみに次回の候補としてはやちむんの陶器市を目指して計画を立てているのですが、皆さま”やちむん”とはご存じでしょうか？

 

２０２２年に放送された朝ドラ「ちむどんどん」でも色鮮やかなやちむんに盛られた沖縄料理が登場したので、近年やちむん人気がすごいのだそうです。

 

やちむんとは、沖縄の方言で「焼き物」のこと。沖縄の家庭でも今も日常的に使われている茶碗や飯碗、鉢や平皿などの陶器を指す言葉です。ぽってりと厚みがあるものが多く、どっしりとした面構えなので、大皿にどんと盛り付けた料理がよく似合います。

以前は伝統的な模様を用いたうつわが主流でしたが、最近は若手の陶芸家が増えたことで、洋食などにも合わせやすいモダンで個性的なデザインも増えているそうです。

 

やちむんの特徴は、絵付けの鮮やかさと躍動感あふれる模様。色は沖縄の青い海を彷彿させるようなコバルトブルーや、棕櫚（しゅろ）の木、南国の植物を思わせるような緑。またこれらの色と対になるような茶色が多く用いられます。

以前古伊万里の時にも文様についてはお伝えしましたが、やちむんの特徴的な文様は唐草模様や、印花（イングァー）と呼ばれる模様、他にも点打という手書きの丸模様が乗ったものも象徴的なモチーフです。

 

ここではじめに戻りますが、”やちむん”の意味について。

やち＝焼、むん＝物

沖縄で作られる焼き物が広く「やちむん」と呼ばれます。碗やどんぶりは「マカイ」、そして本土ではあまり見られないそうですが、抱瓶（だびちん）と呼ばれる泡盛を入れる容器や、カラカラという酒器など沖縄ならではのうつわもあるんです。石垣島や与那国島などに多くあるものだそうです。

沖縄のおおらかな空気をまるごと伝えてくれるやさしさ溢れたやちむん、次回の沖縄旅行（予定はまだ未定）で実際にご紹介できそうであればまたこちらのブログでお話したいと思います。

Recently, I really want to go to Okinawa. If I have free time, I’m researching Okinawa’s food and sightseeing spots and planning an undecided trip to Okinawa (laughs).

By the way, as a candidate for the next time, I am planning to aim for a pottery market of Yachimun, but do you know “Yachimun”?

 

 

In the morning drama “Chimu Dondon” broadcasted in 2022, Okinawan cuisine served in colorful pottery was introduced, so it seems that pottery has become very popular in recent years.

 

 

Yachimun means “pottery” in Okinawan dialect. This term refers to pottery such as tea bowls, rice bowls, bowls, and flat plates that are still used daily in Okinawan households. Many of them are plump and thick, and have a solid appearance, so they look good with dishes served on a large plate.

In the past, pottery with traditional patterns was the mainstream, but with the recent increase in the number of young potters, it seems that modern and unique designs that are easy to match with Western food are also increasing.

 

The characteristics of yachimun are the vividness of the painting and the patterns full of dynamism. The colors are cobalt blue, reminiscent of the blue sea of Okinawa, palm trees, and green, reminiscent of tropical plants. In addition, brown is often used as a pair with these colors.

I have already told you about the patterns of Ko-Imari before, but the characteristic patterns of Yachimun pottery are arabesque patterns, patterns called inga, and hand-drawn round patterns called dots are also symbolic. It’s a motif.

 

 

Let’s go back to the beginning, but about the meaning of “Yachimun”.

Yachi = Yaki, Mun = Object

Pottery made in Okinawa is widely called “Yachimun”. Bowls and donburi are called “makai”, and although it is said that they are not often seen on the mainland, there are also vessels unique to Okinawa such as awamori containers called dabichin and sake cups called karakara. It seems that there are many on Ishigaki Island and Yonaguni Island.

I would like to talk about it again on this blog if I can actually introduce it on my next trip to Okinawa (the schedule is still undecided).
