12月に入り、新年をより一層意識されるのではないでしょうか？

 

2022の干支は「壬寅」ですね。
「壬寅」は冬が厳しいほど春の芽吹きは生命力に溢れ、華々しく生まれる年になるというイメージがあるそうです。

そして、
毛皮の模様から、前身が夜空に輝く星と考えられていた存在。
『決断力と才知』の象徴としての意味もあり、縁起物としても知られています。

中国から十二支が伝わってきたのは日本だけではなく、シルクロードの交易を通じて、ベトナムやモンゴル、インドなど、世界のさまざまな国へ伝わっていったとされていますが、
地域によっては十二支の動物が微妙に違っており、中には十二支の中に寅（虎）が入っていない国もあり、寅年が入っていない国はブルガリアやトルコが有名で、ブルガリアでは猫、トルコでは豹が、寅年の代わりとなっているそうです。

国によって動物が違うのは、
文化の違いからくる、それぞれの動物に対するイメージも違うのでしょうね。

 

今となってはすっかり十二支＝動物のイメージが定着していますが、そもそも十二支は動物を指すものではなく、日付や時刻、方角を表すものだということをご存知でしたか。

十二支が使われるようになったのは紀元前1600年頃、農作物の成長を記録するための数え方として考案されたのが始まりです。

 

初めの頃は漢字の祖先ともいえる「甲骨文字」が使われており、十二支が考案されて約100年の月日が経った現在、このように「子・丑・寅・卵…」と漢字が使われるようになったようです。

 

それからさらに100年が経った頃、中国の王充（おういつ）という人物が十二支をもっと分かりやすく覚えるためにはどうしたらいいか、と考え、動物を当てはめて数えるようになりました。
