ゴールデンウィーク、お休みの方もカレンダー通りの方もいらっしゃるかと思いますが、今日も名古屋は爽やかな風が吹く過ごしやすいお天気です。こんな日はお休みしたくなってしまいますが、タイミングよく頂いた「いちご大福」をお供に今日はお仕事しております。

 

 

いつだったか忘れましたが、

「溺れるなら、『あんこの海』か、『カスタードクリームの海』のどっちなのか。」

について議論が白熱したことがありました。

大人になってから、あんこの美味しさに気づいた私。とはいっても、甘いものは無くてもよい派なもので、このテーマをめぐってはだいたい蚊帳の外。ですが、私の周りはみんなスイーツ大好き。定期的に雑談のテーマにあがり、あんこVSクリームだけでなく、それは時に和菓子VS洋菓子へとさらに大きなテーマとなり、果てはどっちが太りにくいかなんて話になったりもします。

 

「あんこ派」にも「こしあん派」と「つぶあん派」がありますが、皆さまはどっち派でしょうか。もちろん「カスタードクリーム派」にも「『なめらかプリン』のような、なめらか派」や「昔ながらのちょっと固め派」があったりします。そしてそれぞれの派閥内でも内紛が起こったりして、皆自分の‘推し’への溢れんばかりの愛を語ってくれます。

この話、結論はどうなったか全くもって記憶が定かではなくいのですが、なぜこんな話を思い出したかというと。

先日書店で、BRUTUSのバックナンバー「あんこか、カスタードか。」の特別編集号を手に取ってしまったからなのです。

 

 

「なにしろあんこ好きなもので。」というページには、おはぎ、たいやき、お団子、どら焼き、豆大福、あんぱん、お汁粉、羊羹・・・と、めくるめく「あんこの世界」が広がっておりまして。

一方、「なにしろカスタード好きなもので。」というページには、プリン、シュークリーム、クリームパン、クリームアラモード・・・と豪華絢爛な「カスタードクリームワールド」が繰り広げられておりました。

さて、どちらがいいのか…。

 

大人になってあんこ好きになった私としては、やっぱりあんこよね～と思いつつ本を開きますと、出てくる出てくるあんこの逸品。「四天王の推しあんこ手みやげ」もいいし、「超有名店の〝じゃない方〞と看板メニュー」の特集もいい。と気持ちはあんこに傾いたところで、 カスタードへ。そうかプリンもシュークリームもカスタードだったと気付いたところで、美しいプリン・ア・ラ・モードが。そうだった、最高なんだった。これは悩ましい…。

とまぁ、眺めて幸せな気持ちになったところで「やっぱり あんこも、カスタードも。」となりました。

 

 

どっちが太りにくいとかの前に食べなきゃ太らないよなという大前提を置いておいて、美味しいものを、美味しく食べられる幸せ。そうして、ついつい甘いものに手を伸ばし、結局ダイエットは明日から…がループしております。

It is Golden Week, and while some of you may be on vacation, others may be following the calendar, today is another pleasant day in Nagoya with a fresh breeze blowing. On days like this, it is tempting to take a day off, but I’m working today, accompanied by some “Daifuku Strawberry Pudding,” which I received at the right time.

I don’t remember when it was, but

“If you were to drown, would you rather drown in a sea of red bean paste or a sea of custard cream?”

I don’t remember when, but we had a heated discussion about whether we would rather drown in a sea of bean jam or a sea of custard cream.

As an adult, I realized the deliciousness of anko (red bean paste). However, I am one of those people who can do without sweets, so I am usually left out of the discussion on this topic. However, everyone loves sweets. It is a topic of regular chit-chat, not only about red bean paste vs. cream, but sometimes it becomes a bigger theme of Japanese sweets vs. western sweets, and even about which one is less likely to make you gain weight.

There are two types of anko (red bean paste) fans: “koshi-an” and “tsubu-an,” but which is it that you prefer? There is also a lot of infighting among the “custard cream” factions, with some saying they prefer “smooth custard cream like ‘smooth pudding’” and others saying they prefer “traditional custard cream with a bit of firmness.

I can’t remember exactly how this story ended, but the reason I recall it is because I was at a bookstore the other day and saw the BRUTUS magazine.

I’m a big fan of anko (red bean paste). In the page titled “I love anko (bean jam)”, there were o-hagi (bean curd), taiyaki (pancake), odango (dumpling), dorayaki (sweet bean jelly), mame daifuku (sweet bean cake), anpan (bun with red bean paste), oshiruko (sweet red bean jelly), yokan (sweet jelly), and so on.

On the other hand, the “I’m a custard lover, after all. On the other hand, in the page titled “I just love custard,” there were pudding, cream puffs, cream buns, cream a la mode, etc., and a gorgeous “custard cream world” was being unfolded.

Now, which one is better…?

As an adult who has come to love red bean paste, I thought to myself, “It’s red bean paste, isn’t it? The “Four Heavenly Kings’ Best Anko Handmade Souvenirs” is good, as is the feature on “The ‘not-so-good’ and signature menus of the most famous stores. And then, when I had my heart set on red bean paste, I moved on to custard. I realized that both pudding and cream puffs are custard, and then I saw the beautiful pudding à la mode. Oh yes, it was the best. This is so annoying….

I was so happy looking at it, and then I thought to myself, “After all, I want both custard and anko…” I was so happy looking at them, and then I thought to myself, “I want both anko and custard.

I was happy to be able to eat something delicious and enjoy it, putting aside the basic premise that if you don’t eat it, you won’t gain weight, before deciding which one is less fattening. And so, I will start my diet tomorrow… and so on and so forth.
