皆さまこんにちは。今日は少し風が強いですが、日差しが暖かく、春らしい天気ですね。
こんな日には、お散歩をしたくなりますね。
三月六日本日は、菊池寛の命日だそうです。
彼の著作である「父帰る」や、「恩讐の彼方に」は舞台化や映画化、テレビドラマ化もされ、愛されつづけていますよね。
菊池寛と言えば、芥川賞と直木賞の設立者としてもよく知られています。設立には、第四次「新思潮」メンバーとして交流を深めた芥川龍之介や、直木三十五の名前を、後世に残すためという理由があったそうです。
文藝春秋を創刊したのも菊池寛というから驚きです。創刊には若い作家たちに活躍の場を与えたいという思いから、創刊に至ったそうです。
彼が生きていた時代は明治21年から昭和23年。明治、大正、昭和と実に3つの元号をまたいでいたのですね。
西暦にすると、1888年から、1935年です。
ちょうどこのとき、日本ではスペイン風邪が猛威を奮っていたのです。
彼の実体験を元に描かれた短編『マスク』を読むと、当時のことが目に浮かぶように語られています。（菊池寛記念館のサイト「おうちでまなぶ菊池寛」より読むことができますよ！）
人一倍身体が弱かった彼は、朝夕と、家を出るときと帰ったときには、かかさずうがいをしていたそうです。また、外出の際にはマスクにはガーゼをたくさん詰め、殆ど外出をせずに過ごした一か月もあったそうです。
当時作成されたポスターには、「汽車電車 人の中ではマスクせよ 外出の後はウガヒ忘るな」の文字。
当時も今も、感染症の対策のかなめは同じですね。
それにしても、この時代からマスクがあったなんて知りませんでした…
実は私もつい先日、スタッフＴさんと同じ公園の梅園を訪れていたのでびっくりしました。
何だかうれしい気持ちになりました^^
