先日から出かけたい病が発症しておりまして、うずうずしております。それも急に発症するものですから、いつも予定の決断は直前となり思い付きにもほどがあるのですが、この気持ちの赴くままに動けることが大好きな性分でして、どうもやめられません。ですが、その急な思い付き、先日はちょっと失敗でありました。

 

先日急に思い立ったのは「梅」。通りがかったお宅の庭先には美しく咲いており、もう気になりだしまして。昨年訪れて圧巻だった佐布里池梅林をもう一度見てみたくなり、友人を誘って（急にお誘いしてごめんなさい。）行って参りまいりました。

その昔、佐布里一帯は薄ピンク色の花が咲き、多くの観梅客が訪れにぎわいをみせた時代もあったようですが、昭和34年の伊勢湾台風でかなりの被害を受け、さらに愛知用水の佐布里池の建設により水没し、佐布里の梅はごく一部が残るのみとなってしまいました。その後、地元や県の協力で苗が植えられ、今では25種類、約6,000本にまで増え、現在では県下でも有名な梅のスポットであります。

 

その梅の「佐布里梅」は、明治の初めに鰐部亀蔵わにべかめぞう氏が、桃の台木に接ぎ木して増やしたと言われており、厚い果肉と小さい核が特徴で、梅干しに適しており、「佐布里梅」は、令和元年10月10日に知多市天然記念物に指定されております。そんな佐布里池梅林の見頃は2月中旬から3月中旬。薄ピンク色の佐布里梅、白色で一重の白加賀、小枝が緑で花が青みがかった白色の青軸などを楽しむことができるはずだったのですが…。あららら。

 

 

 

 

一足も二足も早かったですね笑。サイト情報の「遅咲きの梅が咲き始めました。」につられてしまい、ちょっと急ぎ過ぎたようです。ですが、ちらほら咲いている品種もありお天気も穏やかでしたので「ドライブしていたら梅が咲いてるのをみつけた。」ということに変更しました。

 

 

折角のドライブでしたので半田市の方面へ寄り道し、赤レンガ建物も見学して参りました。

 

 

 

 

半田赤レンガ建物は、1898年（明治31年）にカブトビールの製造工場なのですが、現在こちらの建物は、平成16年文化庁登録　登録有形文化財、平成21年経済産業省認定近代化産業遺産、平成26年半田市指定　景観重要建造物　第1号

などに指定されており、地方都市・半田から一流ブランドを目指し、果敢に大手ビールメーカーに挑んだ起業家たちの精神を今に伝えております。

 

この赤レンガ建物、設計者は明治建築界の三巨匠の一人、妻木頼黄（つまきよりなか）でありまして、あの横浜赤レンガ倉庫や日本橋（装飾部)なども彼の設計によるものだそうで、いわれてみれば確かに雰囲気は似ている気がいたしますね。

 

半田赤レンガ建物は、ビール工場として安定した温度や湿度を必要とすることから、現在ではほとんど例を見ない、中空構造を持つ複壁や多重アーチ床など、極めて特徴的な構造をもった建物でして、現在は建物見学の他、市民が利用したりできる場所のようでありました。昨日も確定申告の申告受付場所になっており、人が行き来しておりました笑。現役バリバリの建物のようです。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ところで、外観で目に入ってきます「カブトビール広告塔」。こちらは実は最近できたようです。

ご存じの方もおいででしょうが、明治41年頃の名古屋駅前（名古屋停車場）のシンボルであった「カブトビール広告塔」が2022年に 114年の時を超えて現在の半田赤レンガ建物(旧カブトビール工場)に蘇りました。
この高さ10mを超える巨大な広告塔、実はジブリ映画「風立ちぬ」に当時の名古屋駅の風景の中に登場しております。それが現代に目覚めるきっかけとなったようでして、2年前のジブリパーク開業にあわせてこの半田赤レンガ建物の横に復活。

 

 

 

 

 

 

それはそうと「カブトビール」さっきから気になりませんか？。実は、1943年（昭和18年）に企業整備令の適用で半田工場を閉鎖してカブトビールの製造は終了したのですが、現在は当時の文献にできる限り忠実に復刻した「明治カブトビール」と、大正時代の分析表をもとに復刻した「大正カブトビール」の2種類が復刻版が販売されております。こちらの赤レンガ倉庫でも味わうこともできるようなのですが、今回は運転中でしたので断念し、帰路につきました。

 

思い付きドライブ、計画ミスのところもありましたが、このような寄り道で思わぬことも。これも思い付きドライブの好きなことの理由の一つでして、これだからやめられないんだな…。

I have been itching to go out since the other day. It comes on suddenly, so I always make a decision on my schedule at the last minute, and it’s almost too much of a spur of the moment thing, but I love being able to move around as I feel like it, and I can’t seem to stop myself. However, this sudden impulse was a bit of a failure the other day.

The other day, I suddenly thought of plum blossoms. I passed by a house with beautiful plum blossoms in the yard, and I was already curious about them. I wanted to see the Saburi Ike Plum Grove again, which I visited last year and found breathtaking, so I invited a friend of mine (sorry for the sudden invitation…) and we went there. Once upon a time, the area around Saburi was crowded with many plum-viewing visitors who came to enjoy the light pink blossoms. However, the area was severely damaged by Typhoon Isewan in 1959, and was further submerged by the construction of Saburi Pond for Aichi Irrigation. Later, with the cooperation of the local and prefectural governments, seedlings were planted, and the number of plum trees has now grown to about 6,000 in 25 varieties, making it one of the most famous plum blossom spots in the prefecture.

The thick pulp and small kernels of the Saburi Plum trees are suitable for making umeboshi (pickled plums), and they were designated as a natural monument of Chita City on October 10, 2028. The best time to visit the Saburi Plum Grove is from mid-February to mid-March. We were supposed to be able to enjoy the light pink Saburi ume, the white single-petaled Shirakaga ume, and the white Aokushi ume with green twigs and bluish flowers, but…. Oops.

I was a step or two too early lol. I got caught up in the site information, “Late-blooming plum trees have begun to bloom.” I was a little too hasty. However, some varieties were in bloom here and there, and the weather was mild, so I changed it to “I found plum trees in bloom when I was driving around. So I decided to go for a drive and found plum blossoms in bloom.

Since we were driving, we stopped by Handa City and visited a red brick building.

The Handa Red Brick Building was a factory for the production of Kabuto Beer in 1898, and is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2004, a Heritage of Industrial Modernization by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2009, and an important landscaping structure No. 1 by Handa City in 2014.

The red brick building was designed by Tsumaki Yorinaka, one of the three masters of Meiji architecture, who also designed the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and the Nihonbashi (decorative section).

The Handa Red Brick Warehouse is a beer brewery that requires stable temperature and humidity, so it has a very unique structure with hollow double walls and multiple arched floors, which are rarely seen today. Yesterday, it was also used as a place for filing tax returns, and people were coming and going. It seems to be an active building.

By the way, there is a “Kabuto Beer Billboard” outside the building, which seems to have been built recently.
As some of you may know, the “Kabuto Beer Advertising Tower,” which was the symbol of Nagoya Station (Nagoya Station) around 1908, was revived in the current Handa red brick building (former Kabuto Beer Factory) in 2022, after 114 years.

This huge advertising tower, more than 10 meters high, actually appeared in the Ghibli movie “The Wind Rises” in the scenery of Nagoya Station at that time, and it seems to have triggered its awakening in the modern age, so it was revived next to this Handa red brick building two years ago when Ghibli Park was opened.

By the way, isn’t “Kabuto Beer” something you’ve been wondering about? Actually, the production of Kabuto Beer ended in 1943 when the Handa factory was closed due to the application of the Enterprise Development Order, but now there are two reprinted versions available: “Meiji Kabuto Beer,” which was reprinted as faithfully as possible to the literature of the time, and “Taisho Kabuto Beer,” based on an analysis table from the Taisho era! The “Taisho Kabuto Beer” is also available at the Red Brick Warehouse. It seems that you can also taste it here at the Red Brick Warehouse, but I gave up this time because I was driving.

I was driving on an impulse, and I made some mistakes in my planning, but this kind of unexpected side trip is one of the reasons why I like this place so much. That’s why I can’t stop.
