昨日から雨が降り続き、桜も見納めになりそうな週末…

衣替えをしてしまい冬服が無いので、何枚も重ね着をして寒さを凌いでいます。

 

春のことわざでこんな言葉があります。

「春に三日の晴れなし」

これは、春の日本列島の上空を流れている偏西風（ジェット気流）が強くなり、移動性高気圧や低気圧の移動速度が次々と本州付近を通過し、高気圧に何日も覆われることがなく、天気変化が早くなるという意味です。今まさにこのことわざ通りの日々ですね。

 

天気が変わりやすい春、念のため鞄に１つ折り畳み傘をいれておくと良いかもしれません。

 

さて、本日はスタッフⅯの古美術学習の日として、当店の作品の中から１つご紹介兼勉強をしたいと思います。本日の作品はこちらです。

 

 

これは李朝の花器で、すっきりとした白磁に整然と並ぶ文字が印象的な作品です。

 

「李朝」とは朝鮮半島に存在した国で、李氏朝鮮を略した名称であり、正しくは朝鮮国または朝鮮王国と言います。この朝鮮王国は１３９２年に高麗の武将、李成桂（リセイケイ）太祖が興し、１９１０年まで５００余年に渡り続きました。

（日本で言うと、室町時代から、安土桃山・江戸を経て、明治の終わり頃まで続いたことになります。）

 

この時代の芸術文化を支えたのは、「両班（ヤンバン）」と呼ばれる高級官僚たちで、李朝家具の成り立ちにも、この両班が深く関わっています。

 

当時両班は国の政治を担い、また地主・領主としても大きな力を有していました。

両班は科挙制で選ばれたため、「学問」が非常に奨励されていました。そして当時は、儒教を国教としていたため、「礼を重んじ、華美・贅沢を嫌う」精神が、尊ばれました。

 

こうした精神は、当然のように両班達の身の回りの品々にも反映され、質朴な家具や文房具などが多く生み出されたと言われています。

 

この李朝家具は、王朝が奨励した儒教の精神を多分に反映し、「素朴さ、静けさ」をたたえられ、世界中、特に「侘び寂びの心」をよしとする日本では、とても愛される存在となりました。

多くの文人墨客が、李朝の器や家具を好み、日本の陶芸家、職人達に技術や表現が浸透していきました。

芹沢銈介、白洲次郎、正子夫妻また民芸運動の父である柳宗悦などの多くの文化人も「李朝家具」を愛し、広くその良さを伝えたことは有名ですが、彼らが活躍した時代から、かなりの年月を経た現代においても、私たちを魅了する「李朝家具」には時代が変わっても不変”美”がありますよね。

 

 

李朝のものは当店には花器以外に、書棚もあります。

 

 

 

観音扉で使いやすい構造になっていて、ところどころシンプルながらも韓国ならではの伝統的な意匠が見受けられます。李朝の家具は、洋室にも和室にもマッチしてシンプルだけどお部屋のポイントになるものばかりですよね。

現代に溶け込む美しい李朝の世界を知り、また受け継がれていく素晴らしさをより体感しました。

 

 

このお仕事をしていると、物の美しさや、大切さ、またその時代の背景を知ることができるのでとても面白いです。

そして今改めて、もっと学生時代に世界史や日本史の勉強をしておくとよかったのに…と悔しくなったりもします。ですが、今からでも皆さまとこうして学んでいくことが楽しかったりするのです。

There is such a word in the spring saying. “There is no sunny day in spring” This is because the westerlies (jet stream) flowing over the Japanese archipelago in spring become stronger, and the moving speeds of mobile high pressure and low pressure pass around Honshu one after another, and they are not covered by high pressure for days.

It means that the weather will change faster. Right now, the days are exactly as the saying goes.

In spring, when the weather changes easily, it may be a good idea to have one folding umbrella in your bag just in case.

By the way, today is the day of studying antique art of Staff IV, and I would like to introduce and study one of our works. Today’s work is here.

This is a vase of the Li Dynasty, and the characters lined up in a neat white porcelain are impressive.

 

“Joseon” is a country that existed on the Korean Peninsula, and is an abbreviation for Mr. Lee, which is correctly called Korea or the Kingdom of Korea. The Kingdom of Korea was founded in 1392 by Taejo of Joseon, a military commander of Goryeo, and continued for more than 500 years until 1910.

(In Japan, it continued from the Muromachi period through Azuchi-Momoyama and Edo until the end of the Meiji era.)

 

The artistic culture of this era was supported by high-ranking bureaucrats called “Yangban”, who are deeply involved in the formation of Li Dynasty furniture.

 

At that time, both groups were in charge of national politics, and also had great power as landowners and lords. Since both groups were selected by the Imperial Examination System, “academic studies” were highly encouraged. At that time, Confucianism was the state religion, so the spirit of “respecting gratitude and hating splendor and luxury” was respected.

It is said that this spirit was naturally reflected in the personal items of both groups, and many simple furniture and stationery were produced.

This Li Dynasty furniture reflects the Confucian spirit encouraged by the dynasty, and is praised for its “simpleness and tranquility”, and has become a very beloved presence all over the world, especially in Japan, where the “heart of wabi-sabi” is good.

I did. Many literary artists liked the vessels and furniture of the Li Dynasty, and the techniques and expressions permeated Japanese potters and craftsmen.

 

It is well known that many cultural figures such as Keisuke Serizawa, Jiro Shirasu, Masako and his wife, and Soetsu Yanagi, the father of the folk art movement, also loved “Li Dynasty Furniture” and widely conveyed its goodness. Therefore, even in the present age, which has passed a long time, the “Li Dynasty furniture” that fascinates us still has “beauty” that does not change even if the times change.

 

In addition to vases, we also have bookshelves for Li Dynasty items.

 

The structure is easy to use with the Kannon door, and you can see the traditional design unique to Korea in some places, although it is simple. Li Dynasty furniture is simple, matching both Western and Japanese rooms, but it’s all the point of the room. I learned about the beautiful world of Li Dynasty that blends into the present age, and experienced the splendor that has been passed down.

 

It is very interesting to be able to know the beauty and importance of things and the background of the times when doing this work.

And now, I wish I had studied world history and Japanese history more when I was a student. However, I still enjoy learning with you in this way. Let me study together again. Bye.
