子どもの頃、皆さまも一度は手にしていたのではないでしょうか。

まんが学習シリーズ「日本の歴史」「世界の歴史」。

学校の図書室に並んでいた…懐かしいですよね。

こども図書館でもいつの時代も人気上位にランクインでしょう。

他の本たちとはちょっとくたびれ具合が違いますから^^

 

今年２月に新しく発売された角川まんが学習シリーズ「世界の歴史」を監修された東京大学名誉教授の羽田正氏のインタビュー記事より、その面白さを改めて発見したいなと思います。

羽田教授いわく、このシリーズの大きな役割として、新しい世界史の理解法として注目される「グローバル・ヒストリー」の考え方を知り、歴史をしっかり理解しようというテーマが根底にはあるとのことです。

 

時代ごとに20巻にわけて世界の歩みを紹介。

そして、各巻の冒頭でその時代の世界の全体像を示したうえで、地域ごとに何があったのかをマンガで説明する構成。

「古代中国」や「ローマ帝国」など地域に分けてまとめるのではなく、その時代の世界を見渡せるようになっているそうです。

そのわけは、羽田氏が提唱する「グローバル・ヒストリー」という考え方に基づいて作られているからなのだそう。

地域や国ごとに時代をたどる「縦の流れ」に加え、同時代に世界で何が起きていたかという「横のつながり」を見る__という歴史理解の方法とのこと。

確かに、古美術の歴史を検索していると、日本のこの時代、隣国はどういう状況だった？友好な関係だった？などと思うことが度々あります。

（これは歴史が苦手であったスタッフI ならではの苦労でしょうか笑）

国や地域ごとに歴史を学べば、”日本史は自分たちの歴史、それ以外はよその国の歴史” といった認識になりがち。

グローバル・ヒストリーなら、いわば地球を単位にして理解することになるので ”これは私たちの歴史だ” ととらえられるというわけですね。

「グローバル化が進んだ現代では、自分の国を見ているだけでは、様々な問題に太刀打ちできなくなっています。自分たちの歴史として世界全体をに過去を学ぶことが大切です。」と羽田氏は語っておられます。

こうした考え方は学校にも取り入れられ、高校の新学習指導要領で２０２２年度の新設が決まった必修新科目「歴史総合」。

日本史と世界史を融合し、１８世紀以降の近現代史に特化した内容になるとのことです。

 

さらに、歴史を学ぶことにはどんな意味があるのだろうかとの問いに、

「過去を学ぶことで、今を生きるためのヒントが得られるのです」とのご回答。

歴史は過去の積み重ね__

今の生活や文化がどのように出来上がったのか、現代社会が抱える課題はなぜ起きたのか。

歴史を知れば、現代をより理解できる。

「女性を差別する発言が問題になっている今なら、男女平等が唱えられるようになったのは何がきっかけで、いつからなのかを知らなければ、間違った対応をとってしまうかもしれない。年号を語呂合わせで暗記するような勉強では、今を生きるための知見は得られないだろう。」

この考え方、興味の持ちよう、現役のころに気づいていれば、今頃わたしも歴女になっていたでしょうか。

悲しいもので、丸暗記の苦しい記憶しか蘇ってきません泣。。

 

今回のこのシリーズも子供向けと侮ることなかれ。

日本が誇る漫画文化で、大人でも学びなおしにはもってこいでしょうか。

ストーリー仕立ての構成は、歴史の大筋をつかむのに最適とのことです。

その後に教科書を開けば、まんがのストーリーと紐づけて理解が深まるという仕組みですね。

 

今のこの状況、歴史は繰り返すを身をもって体感している気がします。

でもいつの世もそれを乗り越えて、こうして未来は必ず作られている。

先人たちの功績から学べることはまだまだたくさんありそうです。

今こそ、過去の出来事から知恵を吸収し、さらなるグローバルな視野を身につけたいと思います。
