今日の名古屋は、先ほどザっと雨が降ったかと思えば晴れ間も見えてきて、なんとも悩ましいお天気です。毎日台風情報と電車の運行情報とにらめっこで疲れてしまいますね･･･。

 

さてさて、こんなお天気なので外にも人はあまり歩いていないわけで。改めまして、店内にに鎮座しておりますこちらの明時代（中国）の仏像と向き合っております。

 

 

大きさは、高さ34㎝、幅19㎝、奥行き14㎝。蓮の台座に鎮座し、スンと穏やかな笑みを浮かべているかのようにみえる気がいたします。と、真っ白な気持ちで鑑賞しますとこんな感じです。

風光舎でお世話になるまで、こういった仏像などは、これまではほとんど縁遠い存在でしたので、どんな気持ちで向き合ったものか。と何か考えている風を装い、見つめておりますと、知識も教養も足りてはいない私が見ても目につきますのがそのポーズ。いやいや佇まいと申しましょう笑。その佇まいも気にはなりますが、もっと気になりますのが、ハンドサイン。

 

ハンドサイン、正式にはこの手の形を「印相（いんそう）」または「手印(しゅいん)」とお呼びするのですが、皆さまの記憶をたどってみても、そういえば、座禅の際の手で作った輪っかを前で合わせていたり、左手と右手を上げたり下げたり指の形も様々だったり…と、それぞれちょっとずつ違うな…といった記憶はないでしょうか。それらの記憶の仏さまのポーズ、実はそれぞれ意味が違いますし、特に手の形にはちゃんと意味があるようです。

 

たとえば、古美術風光舎名古屋店に鎮座しておりますこちらの仏像。

調べてみますと、こちらの仏像のポーズは、右手は「刀印」と、いうポーズでしょうか。「只今、説法中です」の意味のようですが、意味など知らないと「仏像もピースサインするんだな」なんて小学生みたいなことをつぶやいてしまいそうになります。ですがこれは、仏が皆に尊い説法をしている様子でございます。ピースなどしておりませんよ。このポーズは日本で言いますと飛鳥時代の仏像に多いようです。

 

そんな「只今、説法中です」意味を頭の中にインプットしますと、不思議なことにそういえば何やら人々に説法しているような風景が見えてくる気がいたします。そう、その指の形で、仏像がどんな存在（どんな状態）なのかがわかったような気になれるのです。不思議。

そのほかに、印相には基本的な五種類の形があり、釈迦がよくしていたしぐさを5つに分類した「釈迦の五印」がございますので、興味のある方は調べ学習をしていただきまして、さも知っていたかのようにご友人やご家族に自慢してみてください（笑）

Today’s weather in Nagoya is very troubling, as we had a brief shower earlier, and now we are having sunny skies. I am so tired of staring at the typhoon information and the train schedule every day….

 

 

Well, there are not many people walking around outside because of the weather. I am now facing this Buddha statue from the Ming Dynasty (China) sitting in the store.

 

 

 

It is 34 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. It sits on a lotus pedestal and looks as if it is smiling peacefully. When I look at it with a blank mind, it looks like this.

Until I came to Fukosya, I had never seen a Buddha statue like this, so I wondered how I felt when I faced it. I was not very knowledgeable or well educated, but even I could not help but notice the pose of the statue. No, no, I would call it an appearance. I am interested in the appearance, but what I am more interested in is the hand sign.

 

The hand sign is officially called “Inso” or “Shu-in,” but if you look back in your memory, you may recall that the ring made by the hands during zazen is held together in front of the body, the left hand and right hand are raised and lowered, and the fingers are shaped in various ways…. I wonder if you have any memories of the Buddha’s poses, which are actually slightly different from each other. In fact, each of the Buddha poses in your memory has a different meaning, and the shape of the hands in particular seems to have its own meaning.

Take, for example, this Buddha statue that sits in the Nagoya branch of fukosya Antique Art.

I found that the right hand of this Buddha statue is in the “sword seal” pose. If you don’t know the meaning of the phrase, you may think “Buddha images make peace signs, too,” like a schoolchild. However, this is the Buddha giving a precious sermon to everyone. He is not making a peace sign. In Japan, this pose is often seen in Buddhist statues from the Asuka period.

 

If you input the meaning of “I am now preaching” into your mind, you will strangely find yourself thinking of a scene in which the Buddha is preaching to people. Yes, by the shape of the fingers, you can tell what kind of existence (what kind of state) the Buddha image is in. It is a wonder.

In addition, there are five basic types of seal impressions, and the “Five Seals of the Buddha,” which categorizes the gestures that the Buddha often performed.
