本日は、先日の八ヶ岳旅の続編でありますが、行って参りました「サントリー白州蒸留所」。

 

 

ウィスキーのことは詳しくありませんが、このところのジャパニーズウィスキーのブームにより、入手困難や価格高騰で販売されている状況はよく耳に致しますよね。

 

よく知りもしない「にわか」なのですが、今年50周年を迎えたサントリー白州蒸溜所が今年10月2日にリニューアルオープンしたと聞きつけ、せっかくですので立ち寄ることに致しました。新たにできた施設の見どころやバージョンアップした見学ツアーの内容、お土産リストに入れたい限定ショップアイテムなどもあるそうでして、ちょっと気になります。

 

ところで、サントリーのウィスキーの銘柄と言いますと、響、山崎、知多、そしてここ白州などが有名なのですが、ここ白州の情報を少し捕捉しますと…。

全国各地を調査した中から日本有数の名水地である“白州”の地が選ばれ、日本で初めてウイスキーづくりを始めてからちょうど50年を迎えた1973年にサントリー第2のモルトウイスキー蒸溜所が“白州”に開設され作られたウィスキーが白州でありあます。

 

長い年月をかけて、南アルプスの山々をくぐり抜けてきた地下天然水は、ほどよいミネラルを含むキレの良い軟水で、この水で仕込まれた原酒は軽快で穏やかな味わいを持ち、重厚で華やかな山崎の原酒とはタイプが異るそうでして、白州蒸溜所の稼動によりこれまで以上に多彩で奥深いウイスキーを生み出すことが出来るようになりました。

 

また、ここ白州ではご存じでしょうがウィスキーの他に天然水やビールなどの飲料も生産されております。やはり、水の厳選は飲料にとっては命そのものなんですね。

 

そんなサントリー白州蒸留所、いってまいりました。と、いいましても場内へ訪れるには事前予約が必要になりますから、ご注意ください。

エントランスからは、白州の森から一望できる八ヶ岳連峰がその日は鮮やかに観ることが出来ました。ラッキーです。

 

 

 

 

ここから白州の森への入り口といったところでしょうか。エントランス建物を潜り抜けるとこのような白州の森が広がっております。

 

 

 

 

森の向こうに見えてきたのが、博物館です。

 

 

 

 

ここは、白州の森ととウイスキーを様々な視点からとらえた世界でも珍しいウイスキー専門の博物館でして、1階では、シングルモルトウイスキー「白州」誕生の歴史や、蒸溜所のつくりのこだわり、豊かな水と広大な森を守るサントリーの環境活動などを分かりやすく紹介しております。2階から3階にかけては、醸造や蒸溜の神秘をはじめ、世界のウイスキー文化についての展示が楽したり、最上階の展望台からは、八ヶ岳や南アルプスなどの雄峰をはじめ、眼下には白州蒸溜所の広大な森が眺望できますが、リニューアルに向けて改修工事のところもあります。今回は２階以上は見学できませんでしたが、これは次回の楽しみとしておきましょう。

そして、博物館のお隣の建物はウイスキーやこだわりのグラスをはじめ、樽材グッズやウイスキーなどの多彩な商品が揃っています。そしてなにより、ここ白州でしか販売されていない白州蒸留所限定のウィスキーが販売されております。数量が限られているため、お一人様１本の限定でして、日によっては欠品していることもあるようですが、なんとか手に入れることが出来ました。なんと１本１本シリアルナンバーが入っておりました。

 

そして、同じ館内にはティスティングラウンジが。実は、これを楽しみに来られる方が大半ではなかろうか笑。

 

 

 

 

中に入りますと、大きな窓の向こうに、白州の青い森が画面いっぱいに広がっており、白州の森の中、ティスティングが楽しめます。

 

 

 

 

それぞれのお酒単独でも楽しめますが、面白そうでしたので三種の飲み比べをオーダー。山崎18，白州18、そしてなんと響21です。

もちろん車の運転手の方は飲むことはできませんので、残念ながら今回、私は香りをティスティングするのみでありました。

ティスティングされたい方は、同乗者と話し合いをするか笑、無料のバスが小淵沢駅から出ているようですので電車からそちらを利用してみてもいいかもしれませんね。次回はティスティング絶対したい…。

 

 

 

 

工場内の見学や特別なティスティングは有料見学会のみのようですので、ご興味のありますかたはこちらをエントリーしてみても面白そうです。ただし抽選です。

 

そんなこんなでしばらく滞在ののち出てきますと、すでに夕日に美しく映える八ヶ岳が。

 

 

 

 

それにしても、この地で生まれる「水」こそが飲み物の命であることがとても伝わる白州の地。ウィスキーのお里を思い出しながら、そろそろ手に入れた蒸留所限定ウィスキーの開封の儀でもしてみようかと思っているところであります。

Today is a sequel to our recent trip to Yatsugatake, and we visited Suntory Hakushu Distillery.

 

I am not familiar with whisky, but I have often heard that Japanese whisky is hard to obtain or sold at a high price due to the recent boom of Japanese whisky.

 

I am a novice, but I heard that Suntory Hakushu Distillery, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, reopened on October 2 this year, so I decided to drop by. I heard that there are some highlights of the new facilities, upgraded tours, and limited store items that I would like to include in my souvenir list, so I am a bit curious.

 

By the way, Suntory’s famous whiskey brands include Hibiki, Yamazaki, Chita, and Hakushu. After researching all over Japan, the location of “Hakushu” was chosen as one of the best water areas in Japan, and in 1973, exactly 50 years after the first whisky production in Japan, Suntory’s second malt whisky distillery was established in “Hakushu”. The natural underground water that has passed through the mountains of the Southern Alps over a long period of time is a crisp, soft water with just the right amount of minerals, and the whisky made with this water has a light and gentle taste, which is different from the heavy and floral Yamazaki whisky. With the operation of the Hakushu distillery, we are now able to produce more diverse and profound whiskeys than ever before.

 

As you may know, Hakushu produces not only whisky but also beverages such as natural water and beer. After all, careful selection of water is the very life of beverages.

 

I visited the Suntory Hakushu Distillery. However, please note that you need to make a reservation in advance in order to visit the distillery.

From the entrance, we could see the Yatsugatake mountain range, which can be seen from the Hakushu forest, vividly on that day. We were lucky.

Beyond the forest is the museum.

 

 

On the first floor, visitors can learn about the history of Hakushu single malt whisky, the distillery’s production process, and Suntory’s environmental activities to protect the abundant water and vast forests. From the second to the third floor, visitors can enjoy exhibits on the mysteries of brewing and distilling as well as whisky culture from around the world. From the observation deck on the top floor, visitors can look down on the vast forest of Hakushu Distillery, including the majestic peaks of Yatsugatake and the Southern Alps. However, due to renovation work, we were not able to visit the distillery more than twice this time, but this will be something to look forward to the next time.

And the building next door to the museum offers a wide variety of products, including whiskey and special glasses, as well as barrel wood goods and whiskey. Above all, Hakushu Distillery’s limited edition whisky, which is only sold here in Hakushu, is available for purchase. Due to the limited quantities, only one bottle per person is available, and it is sometimes out of stock depending on the day, but we managed to get our hands on a bottle. Each bottle was individually numbered.

 

In the same building, there is a tasting lounge. Actually, I think most people come here for the fun of it.

 

Once inside, the blue forest of Hakushu fills the screen behind a large window, and you can enjoy tasting in the midst of the Hakushu forest.

 

You can enjoy each sake by itself, but we ordered a three-sake comparison because it looked interesting. Yamazaki 18, Hakushu 18, and Hibiki 21.

Of course, drivers are not allowed to drink, so unfortunately, I could only taste the aroma.

If you would like to try the tasting, you can discuss it with your companion or take the free bus from Kobuchizawa station. I definitely want to do the tasting next time.

 

 

If you are interested, you can enter the tour for a fee, but you will be selected by lottery. However, it will be by lottery.

 

When I came out after staying there for a while, I could already see the beautiful Yatsugatake Mountains in the evening.

 

 

By the way, Hakushu is a place where you can feel that “water” is the lifeblood of beverages. Remembering the delicious whisky in Hakushu, I am thinking of opening a bottle of the distillery’s limited-edition whisky that I have just acquired.
