今日は一日中雨模様ですね。この雨から気温が一気に下がり、肌寒くなるようです。皆さま体調を崩さないように気をつけてください。

 

 

 

突然ですが、関西の方の話し言葉で語尾につける「でしょ」は、丁寧な意味合いを含んでいるのだそうで。いわゆる「タメ口」だと思っていた私には初耳でした。関西方面の年下の後輩がそのように話すのを、「フランクな子だな」と思っていたのですが、長年の疑問がやっと解決しました。

私達は、「でしょ」という表現を使うときは、確認の意や指摘の意で使うことがほとんどです。例えば、「明日の集合時間は5時でしょ。」という文章で考えてみると、語尾をしり上がりにして疑問文として使用すると確認の意になりますが、逆に、語尾を尻下がりにすると推量、念押しの意になりますよね。

 

「でしょ」は「でしょう」を省略した言葉ですが、「でしょう」は、断定の助動詞「です」に推量の助動詞「う」が付いたもので、「だろう」の丁寧語。しかし地域によっては、「でしょ」を敬語と考えている人もいるのですね。

ひとつの言葉をとっても、地域によって色々違いがあって面白いですね。

Suddenly, I heard that “right” at the end of a word in Kansai people’s speech has a polite connotation. I had never heard of it before, thinking it was a so-called “tame-mouth. I had always thought that younger juniors in the Kansai region were “frank kids” when they spoke that way, but my long-standing question was finally answered.

When we use the expression “right?”, we mostly use it as a confirmation or as a pointing out. For example, consider the sentence, “Tomorrow’s meeting time is 5:00, right?” If you think of the sentence, “Tomorrow’s meeting time is 5 o’clock, isn’t it?

 

The word “would” is an abbreviation of “would,” but “would” is a polite form of “would,” consisting of the auxiliary verb of assertion “is” and the auxiliary verb of inference “u” attached to it. However, in some regions, some people consider “wouldn’t” to be an honorific.

It is interesting that there are so many differences in one word depending on the region.
