Hello, this is Staff Y.

Yellow dust has been observed over a wide area from northern Japan to western Japan since yesterday. In addition to this, it is the time of year when cypress pollen is flying, which is unfortunate in spite of such a nice weather, but it seems that we should refrain from drying our laundry outside for the next few days.

By the way, I am beginning to think about Golden Week, but have you made your plans yet? I miss the days when I used to make a list of things I wanted to do, but now that the self-restraint and restrictions have been lifted, I realize that I haven’t been able to go on any trips that I wanted to take. I guess that is what freedom is like when you have it.

So I decided to review my list of things I want to do, and as I was wandering around the store thinking about it, an “Imari” plate caught my eye and reminded me of something….

When we started this blog, the period of self-restraint had just begun, and I was doing a lot of research and learning about Imari and other pottery. I had forgotten that I had always wanted to visit the kilns in the areas known as “Imariyaki” and “Arita-yaki”.

What I especially wanted to visit was Okawachiyama in Imari City, where there used to be a domain kiln (han-you) that produced masterpieces such as “Iro-Nabeshima,” “Nabeshima Sometsuke,” and “Nabeshima Celadon” under the thorough control of the Nabeshima domain. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the unique landscape is reminiscent of a landscape painting and is truly a “village of hidden kilns.” In Okawachiyama, there is the “Nabeshima Clan Kiln Park,” which has beautifully recreated the barrier that protected the secret laws of pottery making, the remains of climbing kilns such as the Otsuneishi and Kiyohara kilns, and the potters’ houses, and if you follow the mountain path, you can see the remains of old kilns and various other historical cultural assets. You saw it on TV once, didn’t you?

Actually, I lived in Oita in my childhood, but I have not set foot in “Imari” and “Arita” area yet, and I am sure that I still feel as if I forgot to press the stamp rally button in my childhood. I recall such feelings, and I also recall the barren time I used to spend in those days, thinking that someday I would like to experience with my own eyes the fantasy that had once swelled up in my research and study.

I had forgotten about this “list of things I wanted to do” when I regained my free time recently, but now I think back and realize that during that time of self-restraint, the “list of things I wanted to do” was a list of “things I really wanted to do,” “things I really wanted to do,” “things I really wanted to go to,” after ripping off many, many sheets of the daily hustle and bustle,” “things I really wanted to do,” “things I really wanted to do,” and “things I really wanted to do. I started to feel like the “list of things I really wanted to do”. I still wanted to go.

Today, an Imariyaki plate reminded me of such a feeling. Once we have free time and mobility, we tend to lose sight of them in the hustle and bustle. I think it might have been a good time for me to look for “the list of things I really wanted to do.

So, have a good day.
