学生さんは春休みに入られ、お昼間の街道も賑わっているように思います。

そして桜並木をくぐると、この季節にしか味わえない幸福感を感じます。

そんなときふと浮かんだのは、北斎や広重の風景画。

江戸時代も後期にかかるころ、それまで美人画と役者絵が二枚看板だった浮世絵に、風景画というジャンルが登場したそうです。

その先陣を切ったのが北斎の『冨獄三十六景』。

数え９０歳まで現役絵師として精進を重ね、数多の名作を残した北斎ですが、なにかと才能っぷりがすごいですね。

去年より日本のパスポートの査証欄にも人気作が用いられるようになり、ますます日本を代表する名画となった『冨獄三十六景』。

２０２４年発行予定の新千円札の裏面には、その中でも最も有名な「神奈川沖浪裏」の波が描かれることになっており、生誕２６０年を越えた今後もブーム到来の予感です。

 

話は風景画登場に戻りまして、やがて歌川広重が活躍し、人気でも作品数でもその第一人者となったのですね。

『東海道五拾三次』などで人気を博し、『名所江戸百景』シリーズの完結前に惜しくも没したわけですが…

情緒を色濃く描いた広重が得意としていたのはその構図でしょうか。

手前に対象物を大きく描いて遠近を強調した斜俯瞰の描写が、広重の構図の最終形との記述がありました。

そして思い切った構図ながら、広重は人の心に訴えかけてくる情景を描き、万人に愛される風景画を完成させたと。

 

現在、国立国会図書館蔵の『名所江戸百景 蓑輪金杉三河しま』（安政４年）という作品_

蓑輪は現在の東京台東区の三ノ輪の地。

荒川が氾濫する湿地帯は、歴代将軍が鶴を見に訪れた地だそうです。

前面に描かれた大きく羽ばたいた鶴が象徴的で、色使いがなんだかモダンで、ピンクの夕焼けが郷愁を誘います。

当時の情景に置かれている感覚にさえなります。

なんだか出会いと別れのちょっと切なくなるこの季節にはまっているような…

 

北斎も奇抜な構図で知られていますが、広重もそういう視点で見ると負けていませんね。

ふたりは同年代と思っていましたが、実は北斎の方が37歳も年上だそう。

親子ほど年が離れていても、お互いの技法に刺激し合っていたのでしょうか。

 

この時期卒業や転勤を迎えられた方々は、大切な友人や恩師とのお別れなどもあったことと思います。

でも時代を越えて愛され続ける風景画のように、大切な人たちとの関係はいつまでも心の支えになります。

桜が散っていくのを見るのは寂しい気持ちにもなりますが、新天地での新たな活躍に他人ながら応援したくなる気持ちにもなりました。

Hokusai has been devoting himself as an active painter until he was 90 years old and left behind many masterpieces, but his talent is amazing.

Since last year, popular works have been used in the visa section of Japanese passports, and “Thirty-six Views of Togoku” has become an increasingly representative masterpiece of Japan.

On the back of the new 1000-yen bill scheduled to be issued in 2024, the most famous wave of “Kanagawa Okinami Ura” is to be drawn, and it is a feeling that the boom will continue beyond 260 years of birth.

 

The story returned to the appearance of landscape paintings, and Hiroshige Utagawa eventually became active and became a leading figure in terms of popularity and number of works.

It gained popularity in “Tokaido Gosho Sanji” and so on, and it was unfortunately died before the completion of the “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo” series …

Is it the composition that Hiroshige, who drew emotions deeply, was good at?

There was a description that the depiction of an oblique bird’s-eye view that emphasized perspective by drawing a large object in front of him was the final form of Hiroshige’s composition.

And while taking the plunge, Hiroshige drew a scene that appealed to people’s hearts and completed a landscape painting that is loved by everyone.

 

Currently, a work called “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, Minowa Kanasugi Mikawashima” (4th year of Ansei), which is in the collection of the National Diet Library.

Minowa is the current land of Minowa in Taito-ku, Tokyo.

The wetlands flooded with Arakawa are said to be the places where successive shoguns visited to see the cranes.

The large flapping crane drawn on the front is symbolic, the colors are somewhat modern, and the pink sunset invites nostalgia.

It even feels like it’s in the scene at the time.

Hokusai is also known for its unusual composition, but Hiroshige is not defeated from that perspective.

I thought they were the same age, but Hokusai is actually 37 years older.

Even if they were as old as their parents, were they stimulating each other’s techniques?

 

I think that those who graduated or were transferred during this period also had a farewell to their important friends and teachers.

However, like landscape paintings that continue to be loved over time, relationships with loved ones will always support your heart.

It made me feel lonely to see the cherry blossoms falling, but it also made me want to support the new activities in the new world while others.
