本日名古屋は初夏のような陽気で、半そで姿の方も多く見かけました。私は寒がりなのでまだ手首足首を出す勇気はないのですが…。まだ体が暑さに慣れていない時期ですので、熱中症にもご注意ください。朝のニュースでエアコンの試運転について伝えられておりました。暑くなってからではなく５月中の涼しい時期に試運転を行うとエアコンの故障が起きにくく、また不具合が発見されても余裕を持って対処できるそうです。試運転の前に掃除もしておきたいしと一人で勝手に焦っておりました。

 

さて今、店内最前列で出迎えてくれるお品は鮮やかな色彩の九谷焼です。水盤あるいは灰入れだったのか用途は定かではありませんが、飾っておくだけで華やかな気分にさせてくれます。新芽のような明るい緑色のアクセントが今の季節に合っている気がいたします。

 

 

 

緻密な幾何学模様で埋め尽くされており、それぞれ微妙に違う模様が描かれています。不思議と重い感じはなく、愛らしく軽やかな印象を受けます。前後にはそれぞれ金色の鳳凰と獅子が描かれております。

 

 

 

鳳凰は中国から伝わった想像上の四瑞（しずい）のひとつです。めでたい時に現れる天の使いとして尊ばれた瑞兆として、麒麟、龍、亀、鳳凰が四瑞と呼ばれています。

鶏のような頭、鶴のような五色の羽、孔雀のような長い尾羽をもった華やかで美しい姿として描かれます。日本には奈良時代に伝わり、正倉院の錦などの宝物にもよく見られます。この時代には細長い首と両足を広げて描かれるという特徴があったようですが、時代と共に日本人好みの姿に変わっていったとか。平等院鳳凰堂や鹿苑寺（金閣寺）の屋根の上にいる鳳凰も有名ですね。

鳳凰は「愛と平和のまた象徴」、また鳳凰が現われるのは「おめでたい事が起こる前兆」との言い伝えがあります。羽のある生物の王とされているため、古代より「徳の高い君子が位に就く時に現れる」と伝えられています。鳳凰が飛ぶときには雷も嵐も起こらず、河川も溢れず、草木も揺れない。そして他の鳥も鳳凰の後ろをついて一斉に飛びたつとの言い伝えもあるそうです。神々しく雄大な光景が目に浮かびます。

鳳凰は本来、風をつかさどる瑞獣とされていましたが、五行思想の「万物は木・火・土・金・水の５種類の元素から成る」という考えが流行した際、四方をつかさどる神獣のうち南方を守る「朱雀」と同一視され、火の属性を持つとみなされるようになったとのこと。このためモチーフとして火とともに描かれることが多くなっていきました。そういえば手塚治虫の「火の鳥」という作品がありますね。不死鳥である火の鳥は鳳凰？それともフェニックス？

実は絵を描く際のモデルはメキシコ南部からパナマにかけての山岳地帯の森に生息する「ケツァール」という鳥だという説があります。世界一美しい幻の鳥ともいわれ、緑色の光沢のある体毛と長い尾羽が特徴で腹部は鮮やかな赤、そしてオスは長い飾り羽をもっています。画像を見てみましたが、本当に美しい鳥でした。雌の気を引くためといわれていますが、本当に雄の鳥は驚くほど（過剰なほど？）艶やかな姿のものが多いですね。

「火の鳥」、子供の頃に読み始めましたが、難解で途中で放り投げました。いつかじっくり読みたいと思いつつ実現しておりません。そう、いつかは実行に移さないかぎり訪れません。重々分かっております。

Today in Nagoya, it was like early summer, and I saw many people in half-sleeves. I am not brave enough to show my wrists and ankles yet, because I am a cold person…. Please be careful of heat stroke as your body is not yet accustomed to the heat. The morning news reported about the trial run of air conditioners. It is said that if you perform a test run during the cooler months of May, rather than when it is hotter, you are less likely to have a problem with your air conditioner, and if a problem is discovered, you can take care of it in plenty of time. I was impatiently thinking to myself, “I want to clean the air conditioner before the test run.
Now, the item that greets me in the front row of the store is a brightly colored Kutani-yaki porcelain. I am not sure if it was used as a water basin or an ashtray, but it makes me feel gorgeous just by displaying it. The bright green color, like that of new buds, seems appropriate for the current season.
They are filled with intricate geometric patterns, each with a slightly different pattern. Strangely, it does not feel heavy, but rather lovely and light. The front and back are each decorated with a golden phoenix and lion.
The phoenix is one of the four imaginary auspicious symbols from China. The Qilin, Dragon, Tortoise, and Phoenix are called the four auspicious signs, which are valued as messengers from heaven that appear on auspicious occasions.
They are depicted as gorgeous and beautiful with a head like a chicken, five-colored wings like a crane, and long tail feathers like a peacock. It was introduced to Japan in the Nara period (710-794) and is often seen in treasures such as brocades from the Shosoin Repository. In this period, the deer was depicted with a long, slender neck and legs spread apart, but over time, the style of the deer changed to suit Japanese tastes. The phoenixes on the roofs of Byodoin Phoenix Hall and Rokuonji (Kinkakuji) Temple are also famous.
According to legend, the phoenix is a symbol of love and peace, and the appearance of the phoenix is an omen that something auspicious will happen. Since the phoenix is considered the king of winged creatures, it has been said since ancient times that the phoenix “appears when a virtuous prince assumes the throne. When the phoenix flies, neither thunder nor storms occur, rivers do not overflow, and plants and trees do not sway. It is also said that other birds follow the phoenix and fly off in unison. A majestic and divine scene comes to mind.
Originally, the phoenix was regarded as a auspicious beast that controlled the wind, but when the idea that all things are composed of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) became popular, it was equated with the “Suzaku,” which protects the south among the four divine beasts that control the four directions, and came to be regarded as having the attribute of fire. For this reason, it was often depicted with fire as a motif. I remember the work “The Firebird” by Osamu Tezuka. Is the firebird, a phoenix, a phoenix? Or is it a phoenix?
Actually, there is a theory that the model for the painting is a bird called “Quetzal,” which inhabits the forests of the mountainous region from southern Mexico to Panama. It is said to be the most beautiful phoenix bird in the world. It is characterized by its shiny green body hair and long tail feathers, its abdomen is bright red, and the male has long ornamental feathers. I have seen images of this truly beautiful bird. It is said that this is to attract the attention of the female, but really the male birds are amazingly (excessively?) Many of them have a very glossy appearance.
I started reading “The Firebird” when I was a child, but it was so difficult to understand that I threw it away halfway through. I have been thinking that I would like to read it carefully someday, but it has not come true. Yes, someday will never come unless I put it into action. I understand that very well.
