さて、ここ風光舎には様々な古いものがございますが、こちらのやきものも見るからに古いものと分かります。私がもし実家でこれを見つけたら、どういう陶器なのか全く判別できないでしょう。

 

 

 

 

こちらは古瀬戸の水注だそうです。

瀬戸焼は愛知県瀬戸市を中心に作られる焼き物の総称で、１０００年以上の歴史を持つ日本六古窯のひとつです。時代ごとに多様な様式の焼き物が作られ、日本の中でも珍しく陶器も磁器もあります。「せともの」は陶磁器の代名詞にもなっていますね。

 

鎌倉時代に中国で焼き物の技術を学んだ加藤四郎左衛門景正が瀬戸で開窯したことが始まりとされています。焼き物の原料となる良質な粘土を採取でき、山間地帯では松などの樹林が広がっていたという恵まれた自然が窯業の支えとなりました。

平安時代末期からは「古瀬戸」と呼ばれ中国の陶磁器をモデルとした施釉陶器が生産されるようになり、室町時代まで国内唯一の施釉陶器の産地として発展します。

古瀬戸の成立期で灰釉のみが使用される鎌倉時代を中心とした前期、鉄釉の使用が始まり印花・画花などの文様の最盛期である鎌倉時代の終わりから南北朝時代を中心とする中期、文様が廃れ碗・皿・盤類などの日用品の量産期の後期に分けられます。

こちらの水注は前期の平安時代のものと思われます。見ただけでは私に分かるはずもありません。

どういったものかが分かると、器を見る目も違ってきます。

No prior notice is required, so please feel free to stop by.

If you have any items at home or at your parents’ house that you wonder how much they are worth, please feel free to bring them in for appraisal. If you have large items or other items that are difficult to bring in, we will be happy to assess them by photo.

We have a variety of old items here at Fuhkosha, and you can tell from looking at this pottery that it is old. If I were to find this at my parents’ house, I would not be able to tell what kind of pottery it is at all.

This is said to be an old Seto pitcher.

Seto ware is a general term for pottery produced mainly in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, and is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan with a history of more than 1,000 years. Various styles of pottery were produced in each period, and both ceramics and porcelain are rare in Japan. Setomono” has become a synonym for ceramics.

It is said that the kiln was first opened in Seto by Shirozaemon Kagemasa Kato, who learned pottery techniques in China during the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The kiln industry was supported by the blessed nature where good quality clay, the raw material for pottery, could be extracted and forests of pine trees and other trees were spread in the mountainous area.

From the end of the Heian period (794-1185), glazed ceramics modeled after Chinese ceramics, known as “Kosedo,” began to be produced in the area, and by the Muromachi period (1333-1573), it had developed as the only production center of glazed ceramics in Japan.

Koseto was divided into three periods: the early period, centering on the Kamakura period, when only ash glaze was used in the establishment of Koseto; the middle period, centering on the period from the end of the Kamakura period to the Nanbokucho period, when iron glaze began to be used and the use of designs such as inka and goka was at its peak; and the late period, when designs were discontinued and daily utensils such as bowls, plates, and boards were mass-produced.

This water pouring vessel is thought to be from the Heian period (794-1192). It is impossible for me to tell just by looking at it.

If you know what kind of vessels they are, you will be able to look at them differently.
