朝晩はヒンヤリと感じられるようになってきましたね。一年の半分は夏になってしまったかのような、そんな暑さが続いておりましたが、ふと見上げれば、空は高く、秋の空へと移り変わっておりました。着実に季節は巡ってきているのですね。

 

 

 

 

みなさま秋の空といえばどんなイメージがありますでしょうか。

私は「空高く、澄んだ青空」をイメージすることが多いですが、それには理由があるようです。

時期的に、10月～11月は大陸からの移動性高気圧に覆われやすく、大陸からの空気は乾燥しており、空気中の水分やチリが少なくなるのだそうです。そうすると、太陽からの青や紫の波長が届きやすく、より空が青く見えるようです。

 

また、秋晴れの日には、高度の高い「上層雲」が現れることが多くあり、これも空が高く見える理由の一つのようです。
一年を通して見られる雲もあるそうですが、季節によって雲にも違いがありますね。

 

秋によく見られる雲といえば、「すじ雲」。

最も高い所に現れる雲の一つで、秋を代表する雲とも言える巻雲は、晴れた日によく見られます。
ハケでさーっと描いたような繊維状の形で、一般に白色をしています。
絹のように光沢を持ち、美しく見えることもあります。

次によく見られるのが「うろこ雲」や「いわし雲」。

巻雲と同じく、最も高い所に現れる雲の一つで、氷の結晶でできており、小さい白色の塊が群れをなし、うろこ状、または、さざ波状の形をしています。
その形から「うろこ雲」や「いわし雲」と呼ばれることが多く、秋の季語にもなっています。
一見、白く青空に映えて美しく見えますが、上空の風が乱れている状態で発生するため、天気下り坂の予兆でもあるそうで。
雲が広がってしだいに厚くなっていくと、天気が悪化することが多いため、注意が必要とのことです。

最後に、もこもこの羊の毛のような「ひつじ雲」

水滴からなり、小さなかたまりの雲が集まって羊の群れのように見えることから、「ひつじ雲」と呼ばれています。
先ほどの「うろこ雲」や「いわし雲」より低い高さに現れ、ひとつひとつの塊が大きく見える特徴があります。
また、雲の色は白色だけなく、灰色で陰のできることもあるようで、時間ともに雲の量が増えて空が覆われると、天気悪化のサインンのようです。

 

 

 

 

ところで、うろこ雲やいわし雲、ひつじ雲の見分け方をご存じでしたか？お恥ずかしながら、私は知らなかったのですが、
手をのばして、小指または人差し指を1本立てて、雲の塊が指に隠れる場合は、うろこ雲やいわし雲。
指からはみ出る場合は、ひつじ雲なのだそうです。

 

今の季節に空を見上げると、色々な雲に出会えるチャンスがありそうですね。
また、空を見ることはリフレッシュになり、心を穏やかにする効果なんかも期待できそうです。
過ごしやすい季節になり、秋のイベント等のおでかけや、ふとした日常の中で、空を見上げてみてはいかがでしょうか♬

The mornings and evenings are getting cooler and cooler. It has been so hot that it feels as if half of the year has turned into summer, but when I look up, the sky has turned into high autumn sky. The season is steadily coming around.

 

What image do you have when you think of the autumn sky?

I often think of “a clear blue sky high in the sky,” but there seems to be a reason for this.

The air from the continent is dry, and there is less moisture and dust in the air. This makes it easier for the blue and purple wavelengths from the sun to reach us, and the sky appears bluer.

 

In addition, high altitude “upper clouds” often appear on clear autumn days, and this seems to be another reason why the sky appears higher.
Some clouds can be seen throughout the year, but there are differences in clouds depending on the season.

 

One cloud that can often be seen in autumn is the “stratus cloud.

One of the clouds that appear at the highest altitude, roll clouds can be said to be representative of autumn, and are often seen on sunny days.
They are generally white in color and have a fibrous shape, as if quickly drawn with a brush.
They have a silky sheen and can look beautiful.

The next most commonly seen type of cloud is the “scaly cloud,” or “sardine cloud.

Like cirrus clouds, these clouds appear at the highest altitudes and are made of ice crystals.
Because of their shape, they are often referred to as “scaly clouds” or “cirrocumulus clouds,” and are a seasonal word for autumn.
At first glance, they look white and beautiful against the blue sky, but because they occur when the winds in the sky are turbulent, they are said to be a sign that the weather is on the downslope.
As the clouds spread and gradually thicken, the weather often worsens, so caution is advised.

Finally, there is the “sheep cloud,” which looks like a woolly sheep.

They are called “sheep’s wool clouds” because they consist of water droplets and look like a flock of sheep when small clumps of clouds gather together.
They appear at lower altitudes than the “scaly clouds” and “cirrocumulus clouds” mentioned earlier, and each clump appears larger than the last.
They are not only white in color, but can also be gray and shaded, and when the amount of cloud cover increases with time, it is a sign of worsening weather.

 

 

 

By the way, did you know how to recognize scaly clouds, sardine clouds, and sheep clouds? I am ashamed to say that I did not know,
Stretch out your hand and hold up one pinky or index finger. If the cloud mass is hidden by your finger, it is a scaly cloud or an eagle cloud.
If it sticks out from the finger, it is a sheep cloud.

 

If you look up at the sky during this season, you may have a chance to encounter a variety of clouds.
Also, looking at the sky is a refreshing experience, and it is expected to have a calming effect on the mind.
As we enter the pleasant season, why don’t you look up at the sky when you go out for autumn events or just in your daily life?
