名古屋は本日快晴となりました。昨日よりは暖かくなりましたが、頬に当たる風は冷たく感じ、まだまだ春遠しといったとこでしょうか。関東地方の大雪は２年ぶりだそうですね。雪のピークは過ぎたようですが、どうぞ足元などお気を付けになってお過ごしください。

 

 

さて2月の別名は「如月」。寒さゆえに、着物を重ねて着たという意味の「木更着」と書かれた由来があることは、先日のブログでもお伝えしましたが、普段はあまり気にかけませんが、今日のように雪が降ったり、冷たい風が吹いたりすると、この季節を表す言葉って他にどんなものがあったかなと気になったりもします。

 

まだまだ寒い2月には、如月以外にもどんな別名があるかといいますと、有名なところでは、『初花月』でしょうか。

年明けに初めて咲く花を「初花」と言います。この初花とは、「梅」を指すと言われています。昔は桜より梅の花見が主流であったと言われていますので、このような名前が付けられたのかもしれませんね。

 

2月はまだまだ寒いと思っていますが、梅の花が咲き始める時期から、梅に関する名前が多く、『梅見月』、『梅津月』、『梅津早月』などがあります。今日も外を歩いておりますと、気付けば梅がほころんでいて、どこからか良い香りを運んできていましたよ。

その他、『仲春（ちゅうしゅん）』、『雪消月（ゆききえつき）』、『木芽月（このめつき）』などがあり、どれも厳しい寒さの中にある小さな春を思い起こさせる言葉です。

 

春待ち遠しい今日この頃ですが、立春が過ぎたころに吹く『春一番』も気になります。

春一番は、立春（2月4日頃）から春分（3月21日頃）までの期間に、風速8.0m/s以上・南よりの風・日本海に低気圧がある・前日より気温が高い）などの諸条件が揃った風を「春一番」として各地で発表されます。

ただ、この強風が花粉や黄砂などを運んだりするおかげで、体調を崩したり、アレルギー反応が出てしまったりするのです。

 

毎年、辛い花粉症に悩まされる私としては、春待ち遠しいとは思いながら、もう少し待ってほしいと矛盾を抱えています。

とは言え、やはり早く『春よ来い』でしょうか。

It is a beautiful sunny day here in Nagoya today. It is warmer than yesterday, but the wind on my cheeks feels cold and spring is still far away. I heard that it has been two years since the Kanto area experienced heavy snowfall. The peak of the snow seems to have passed, but please be careful with your footing.

February is also known as “Kisaragi. As I mentioned in my blog the other day, the origin of the word “Kisaragi,” meaning that people wore kimono in layers because of the cold weather, is not something I usually pay much attention to, but when it snows and cold winds blow as they do today, I wonder what other words there are to describe this season. I am not so sure.

February, which is still cold, has another name besides “Kisaragi.” The most famous is “Hatsuhana-tsuki,” which means the first flowers bloom at the beginning of the year.
Hatsuhana” refers to the first flowers that bloom at the beginning of the year. This first flower is said to refer to “ume” (plum blossoms). It is said that in the old days, viewing plum blossoms was more popular than cherry blossoms, which may be why it was named this way.

Although we think February is still cold, there are many ume-related names from the time when ume flowers begin to bloom, such as “Umezuki”, “Umezuki”, and “Umezuhayatsu”. As I was walking outside today, I noticed that the ume blossoms were blooming and bringing a pleasant fragrance from somewhere.
There are also “Chushun,” “Yukikieretsuki,” and “Konometsuki,” all of which remind us of a little spring in the midst of the harsh cold.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring, but we are also concerned about the “first storm of spring” that blows around the time Risshun (first day of spring) passes.
The first day of spring is announced in various regions as “the first day of spring” when the following conditions are met: wind speed of 8.0 m/s or higher, wind from the south, low pressure over the Sea of Japan, and higher temperatures than the previous day during the period from Risshun (around February 4) to the first day of spring (around March 21).
However, these strong winds carry pollen and yellow sand, which can make people sick or cause allergic reactions.

As someone who suffers from severe hay fever every year, I am inconsistently looking forward to spring, but wishing that it would wait a little longer.
However, I still wish that spring would come soon.
